Its time to buy a new tablet again and I'm having a hard time deciding between these two tablets. I am absolutely going to root them, but a custom rom is a possibility for either, so I was wondering if anyone had any experience with either and how easy it is.
Additionally, I can't really decide between the two tablets. The pros of the shield tablet are that it has a faster processor and better gpu, along with the tegra exclusive and it is cheaper. On the other hand for a hundred dollars more, the zenpad has 4x the storage (which is faster storage too), 2x the ram, a better screen with a 4x3 aspect ratio (which I prefer), a better stylus, thinner, and it has usb type c and better cameras. I was going to use this as an all around tablet that ranged from gaming to studying and ebooks, so the stylus and screen are still important, but I am worried about the 2gb of ram becoming a limitation in the shield tablet. For a use case that involves basically everything from gaming to studying, anyone have any recommendations?
I think the ZenPad has better hardware, expecially for your needs, and it does have root. Though the ZenPad doesn't have any development (no roms, no permanent recovery), and the Shield has multiple options in that respect.
Look at the development section of the shield tablet, and compare that to the one thread "ZenPad S 8 Root Achieved" that the ZenPad has. I have the ZenPad and although I love the hardware, I'm more than surprised at it's lack of development

I will be getting a new laptop In a few months primarily because mine is very outdated (4 yrs old running c2d) and it freezes occasionally but besides that I asked on another forum for laptop recommendations and someone suggested that I look at some Ultrabooks for their portability (I want a laptop that's not very heavy, less than 6lbs). I'll also need it for college, Im planning on going into animation, so I'll need it for that too.
Specs for the laptop that I'd want:
Lightweight:< 6lbs
13-15" screen
Budget: 1K-1.5K
1gb+ dedicated graphics card
Core i7 processor (multi-core)
6+ hrs battery life
The 2 things keeping me from getting an Ultrabook are the lack of a disk drive (minimal effect) and storage space as most SSD's are 256gb max. That being said what are some Laptop/Ultrabook recommendations based on my specs (The specs given are what I'm looking for, anything else is optional).

HP Folio us the best non-apple Ultrabook out there, impressive specs but the memory expansion on all of them is very limited so i would suggest a regular laptop/notebook with higher specs such as HP G-series very light with an optical drive. honestly i dont remember the lat time i used an optical drive for anything but thats just me.

It doesn't have an i7, but I was able to find a laptop with the things that was lightweight and had what I wanted. For some reason I tried to stay away from HP because I keep hearing negative things about their products.
Hi guys,
Im looking to buy my first ever tablet but im having trouble choosing. I'm a university engineer student and need a tablet that can take notes(alot of typing), browse the web(flash must have), remote access desktop back home (must have) and possible play few games( nothing fancy). I had a laptop(windows 7) but it was big, heavy and ended up breaking when I was rushing from class to class. That's why I'm looking for a smaller tablet. I want to stay away from laptops and try something new (android). I do have a windows desktop at home, so i dont really need another windows laptop. My budget is about 400-700 Max.
After doing some Googling I found:
Asus transformer infinity tf700t (with dock)
Samsung galaxy note 10.1 (probably will buy a dock for it)
Windows surface (has cover/dock)
Ipad 2 (don't really like apple products because there is no customization to it, but still considering)
So far I'm looking at the Asus tf700t because of the dock but since I have never owned any android tablets I'm a little unsure if its the right choice for me.*
Any tips, suggestions or comments will be much appreciated.

You can't really go wrong with an android device. On stock OS android is more stable than any other mobile OS. And that's without losing all the customization. Where as on the iPad or any other OS or tablet/phone you have to do some sort of hackery or something extra. But out of the box an android tablet runs circles around anything else available. I can't say however the tablet apps are as polished in iOS in android. That is just simple mathematics... there are so many more phones than tablets so fewer developers work on them. But don't let that discourage you. You will still find what you looking for and more with the tablet your most interested in.

I have looked around asus transformer tf700 section and i found some good tips and everyone says its definitely worth the price, though some problems with battery life.

I say go for the Galaxy Note 10.1. It's a bit newer and you also get a newer version of ICS. You may take a hit in the screen resolution, which is 1280 X 800. You do get a quad core CPU, with the Mali-400mp GPU, and 2 GBs of memory. Plus you get a pen with it ^__^. When looking at the Prime you may get a higher resolution screen of 1920 X 1200, you get a dual core CPU, the Adreno 225, and 1 GB of memory. In terms of GPU power both offer about the same performance wise. With all the other bells and whistles both have very comparable stats.

If you can wait for the Windows Surface tablet to come out to see what it offers, and I highly suggest not to get an iPad because it doesn't support flash lol, and has little to no customization. Thanks for the great links and tip. I'm going to do a tryout of some tablets to see how easy and good they are at note taking. If the infinity it Samsung galaxy note 10.1 don't fit my list. I will wait for the windows surface pro to come out and buy it, that is if neither the infinity or samung note 10.1 satisfy my needs.

Hi all,
I have an Android tablet at the moment (Asus Memopad HD 7) and it has been a great little tablet however I'm on the lookout for a new, slightly bigger tablet. The reason being, I read a lot of medical books on it and the aspect ratio is not the most ideal. It gets the job done, but once I saw the 4:3 tablets by chance on Google Images, it was love at first sight.
I'm a fan of the Chinese tablets (Aoson, Hisense, Teclast, Chuwi, Pipo, etc) and am seriously considering importing one as I've bought a Chinese mini-PC (Vensmile IPC002) before and it's a pure joy to use (transformed my entertainment center).
Anyways, I digress. Here are the specs I would like (but will consider others, I know there's no such thing as a "perfect match"):
7.9" screen 4:3 aspect ratio (iPad mini style, etc)
2GB / 4 GB RAM
32GB RAM ( or more but no less) including a microSD card slot
Windows 10 (or 8.1) dual boot with Android (but a single Windows OS is fine too)
Cherry trail processor (again, will settle for Bay Trail but as a last resort)
GPS (highly preferred)
3G (not a must, but welcome)
Everything else is a bonus and not a deal-breaker.
The iPad Mini is absolutely wonderful but I cannot stand iOS. I'm well aware of the Samsung Tab S2 however not only is the price more than what I'm willing to spend, Android-only for that price is not a decent deal in my opinion, especially with the much cheaper dual-OS similar-spec (some even better) tablets out there.
I welcome all suggestions and/or recommendations.

What’s the best Android Tablet out there for gaming? I’m looking for a combination of:
1) Best display (Resolution, PPI, Quality)
2) Best Processor
3) Large screen size (nothing the size of an Ipad Mini)
I’ll be using the tablet exclusively for gaming. Price, Battery Life, and other features are of no concern to me.
I’ve explored options like the Galaxy Tab-S, Nvidia Shield, Nexus 9, Xperia and some others but I can’t come to a decision. Is the K1 Tegra for shield much faster than the processors in other tablets? I would have picked up the Shield I won’t use its streaming feature and I’ve read some issues with it. Also, I’m looking for something >1080P if possible.
Is there anything I should just wait for that will be releasing soon in the next few months?
What do you all think?

What is the best tablet, for all different users, at this point in time?
The tablet market - as you might know, if you've been looking at XDA the past few years - has significantly diminished. It's all about the phones now. However, some of us still want the multi-purpose utility devices known as tablets.
Here, I'd like to discuss some of the tablet options currently available, and hopefully get some suggestions from the rest of XDA.
So far, out of the tablets I've looked at, only a few have appealed to me.
1. - The Lenovo Yoga Book:
Having some interesting features, and pretty well spec'ed for $380CAD [$275USD on Amazon.com], this is my first personal choice for buying a tablet, as I will be doing in a few days. It has four gigabytes of RAM, a 1200p LCD screen, and an Intel Atom processor clocked to 2.4GHz. 64 gigs of internal storage and 8500mAh of battery are appealing too.
The cameras are pretty bad [2mp front, 8mp back], but that's to be expected of a tablet: who wants to take pictures with them anyway?
It comes with Android 6.0 Marshmallow, with OTA updates to Nougat. There's not much activity on the development scene for this tablet, but it seems to be the same for most these days. People have successfully rooted it with Magisk, so that's a plus in my book.
Finishing up the specs, we have WiFi, of course, no GPS, Bluetooth v4.00, no NFC, Infrared, or USB OTG. It does have a 3.5 millimetre headphone jack, but no FM radio. It apparently accepts a SIM card, but I don't care about that since I'm unlikely to be using it as such.
Now for the interesting features: a Wacom drawing tablet and "Halo keyboard."
The drawing tablet seems to be pretty normal for a drawing tablet: 2048 levels of pressure sensitivity, wireless pen that doesn't need to charge, all that stuff. Additionally, the pen that comes with it is a "Real Pen," with capitals. This "Real Pen" uses some unknown technology to allow you to transcript notes written on actual paper, on top of the drawing area, into your tablet.
The Halo Keyboard is quite an oddity, being basically a virtual keyboard, except it's not on the screen. Since I have no hands-on experience with this tablet, I couldn't tell you how well it works.
The hinge of this tablet apparently has four positions, but also advertises itself as "360º," so I'm not sure which to believe.
As I said at the start, this is my current choice for a tablet, and will be buying it on the weekend, if all goes well.

The other device that caught my eye is significantly cheaper, and lacking in features.
Coming in at $290CAD, the "Asus Z301MF-A2-GR" is a 10.1" tablet also, however it only has a 1.50GHz MediaTek processor, 2 gigs of RAM, and 16 of storage.
The screen is a 1200p IPS LCD panel, the battery is only 4,680mAh. This tablet accepts USB type C input and comes with Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box, including a suite of ASUS visual enhancement programs that have been received quite negatively, in some instances, by the community. It also does not come with a keyboard.
I could not find an XDA forum for it.
That concludes my hands-off review and slight comparison of those two devices, please let me know if there are others you'd suggest I buy instead.
