I bought the V10 for the ability to adjust the microphone sensitivity while recording video. I go to a lot of music festivals and clubs and the bass always gets distorted when recording video. I built a microphone that plugs into the headphone jack to overcome this, but wanted a phone that didn't require it. The V10 failed. I set the sensitivity to -18dB and the quality is still awful.

Well, that is disappointing to hear. That was one of the features that made me choose this phone. I had the HTC One M8 and got really good results from concerts.
Thanks for the report. It is disappointing though. The adjustable mic thing was a feature I was hoping would help make better videos at concerts. Oh well...

Heya,
not abound the sound, which is fine, but what's wrong with the video? Even on HD the video has some serious tear/problems. Something exclusive for that clip?
Trying to pick up the bass frequency will probably never happen on a smartphone. The type of microphone that will handle that frequency would never fit in there smartphone.
You can filter the crap out of your microphone physically but then you'll lose the higher frequency sounds.

HTC One M8 did audio awesome, no clipping in the bass of recordings. I recorded alot of clips from concerts.
Here is a comparison of the microphone I built used on my Note 4 and the V10 with its built-in mics. Both videos are shot at Omnia nightclub is San Diego.
This video is shot with my Note 4 and homemade microphone. Up front very close to speakers

I agree. Sounds like absolute sh$t to me. I must admit M9,M8 and especially M7 always did good with music Audio. The original M7 had dual "HDR" Mics, later in the year they were dropped though due to legal dispute.

I've had great results with the Rode Stereo VideoMic Pro for my Panasonic FZ-200 digital camera. Rode now makes a microphone just for smartphones called the VideoMic Me. I've seen it online for only $59 at bhphotovideo. You plug it right into your earphone port and it also has an integrated earphone port so that you can hear what you are recording. Here's a link to Rode's website: http://www.rode.com/microphones/videomicme
Take a look at the videos on the website, especially the two girls who take it into a live club concert. You can hear the music without any distortion. I just may pick one up myself. It will be released on 12/1/2015.

Since none of the initial specs and hands on reviews have mentioned it, I'm guessing that the G2x doesn't have the noise cancellation feature that the Nexus One does. But it'd be nice to get confirmation. So, does this phone have a noise cancellation feature?
I have it in my hands now and it doesn't have noise cancellation. Call quality is excellent though.

if you don't mind me asking how is the camera quality? Are the whites and colors pretty accurate?
thanks
They are pretty accurate but sometimes the colors look a little washed out. I'd give the camera a 7 out of 10. Its just as good most cell phones.

I find it slow to lock and has a tendency to jump around on my unit. For instance .4 miles(I know itis exactly that) comes out 7.2 etc. This is in Cardio trainer. I also find that certain apps like GPS test plus do not function quite right. I have had one hang up in Cardio trainer already and I have only had the phone for 15 hours. Also while on the line with CS I had weird noises in the line while speaking with them and they even called me back with same result. Haves no idea what that is all aboiut. All in all though I do like the phone.
I was just told by a T-Mobile rep that the two audio speakers on the bottom of the G2X are NOT supposed to work simultaneously.
For some reason, I noticed the other day while watching a movie, that there was only sound coming out of one of the speakers on the bottom of the phone. I've noticed the same for all audio (mp3, streaming, etc).
Is it true that only ONE of the speakers is supposed to play audio?
If so, why would they put two speakers on the bottom of the handset?
The other one is the mic.

As a side note, I find the speaker (s?) on this phone sucks. It makes "speakerphone" almost unusable. I guess LG ran out of physical space for a decent speaker. They did pack a lot in...

Are you on CM7? I noticed that my audio overall is lower on CM7 than it was on stock.
G2X CM7
I'm on stock 2.2.2. It gets loud enough, but I believe it is bacause the speaker (piezo?) is tiny. My last phone was at razr w490, and it had a speaker on the back easily 4x bigger and sounded way better.

Hi there,
I have the feeling that my microphone sensitivity is way to high - I mean you don't have to talk that loud in order to produce annoying cracks/snaps in every video recording. Is there any way to low the microphone volume level ? Do you face the same problem ?
yep, same here. when making voice calls the microphone level is a little too low for my taste, but when recording videos, mic sensitivity is through the roof. if someone's talking right next to me while i'm recording or if i start talking there's heavy sound distortion going on in the video. i record a lot of paintball matches and most of my (if not all) videos have unusable (corrupted) audio tracks due to either me talking or loud backgound noises.
/edit:
i uploaded a sample video... don't mind what's going on there, we were testing our newly bought sup-air paintball field for the first time, even though we were only halfway done preparing everything ;D
Sample Video @ YouTube
you're right, especially with video recording, a single light wind when recording outside and all the sound is bad
I took very nice HD videos of my holidays, but for most of them all you hear is a stressing noise due to the wind in the microphone.........and the wind was light, the usual light wind on a beach
This is exactly what I been saying. I'm not a HTC bashed but their promo gave the impression video sound quality would be impressive.

Yes, everybody has this problem. The mic gain is set too high during stereo-recording, resulting in clipping, especially when close to the sound-source. Still not solved in 2.3.4 either. I don't think it's a hardware problem, but a settings problem. It is much less problematic when recording in mono.

Hi,
This is exactly what I'm experiencing, thanks for uploading it ! It is really strange nobody shared this issue before on any forum. At first I thought my device is damaged or something. Anyway it is good to hear there is a little chance they will fix it by software upgrade. What I can suggest is to simply create a support ticket request to HTC demanding to have it solved. If more people will complain about it maybe they will do something to fix this.
Yeah, they really need to fix it. They were really touting the stereo sounding recording as an important feature on the phone. Does anyone know if any custom ROMs can fix it?

Exactly... For a while I thought my device was damaged until I saw others complaining too. It sounds like it is due to poorly adjusted noise cancelling. Stock voice recorder makes horrible recordings, too. You have to speak unusually loud to get your voice recorded. It also affects applications like Soundhound: nothing gets recognized unless the source is really loud.
Hey guys. Im going to a hard rock concert on Sun and Im wondering what would be the best settings to use with the camera. Im gonna stick the phone on airplane mode to save the battery.

I'm not sure but I think the video files have a time/size limit. You'll have to strike a good balance of video quality vs quantity. Who are you going to see?
Make sure you turn off the "auto-upload" feature of Dropbox and Google+. Once upon a time my videos kept just stopping recording on me and it was G+ trying to do something with it.
I ended up not going but it was to see Slash ft. Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators.

Lol I just made a post about the camera on another thread. I find low light video recording fairly mediocre on the One X because the auto-focus causes the phone to go in and out of focus constantly.

Someone did audio from the Detroit show, it's up on Dimeadozen. Haven't seen any video yet.
My concern wouldn't necessarily be the video, it would be the audio.
Most rock concerts are loud enough to drown out microphones. If you don't have a way to dampen the sound, there's a good chance all you'll be left with is unusable audio.

I was more thinking the microphone may be too localized to get decent sound. Obviously depends on how loud the music is, the size of the venue and where the OP is standing. But normally, sounds not in the immediate vicinity of phone hardly even get recorded. I took video of my kid singing, from maybe 30 feet away, and you can't even hear it on the recording.
But I've also been to concerts where my ears were still ringing in the morning! So those probably would have been plenty loud enough . . .
Petty sure the leaked manual showed dual speakers for the N5 whereas the official spec on Google just states "built in speaker".
So, single speaker with dual grills like the iPhone or dual / stereo speakers?
Anyone know for sure? Really hoping the audio is better this time around.
Edit: it's mono
It seems the left grill is the speaker and the right is the microphone.
Sucks ass I was so hoping for stereo, was one of the main reasons of upgrading from N4 .
It also doesnt sound that good! seems very echoey and I have no idea why >.<. Any clues whats wrong with it? at the moment mine actually sounds worse than the N4 lol.
they did the same thing with the g2....
looks like there is 2 speakers as there are 2 grills but actually only one speaker and the other hides the mic

poor quality also it seems
Lets hope 'viper' can be used on this as this made a great improvement on my g2

You have the phone already?
Yeah its odd how they're both identical in terms of looks but only 1 is speaker
just tried an mp3 from Amazon which plays at full bit rate, quality of speaker is reasonably loud but very tinny sadly
Yeah I have the phone already, have had it since 12pm . Must admit that's the only thing really that I can fault on it but I still love it oh and the yellow tinge present however I believe either calibrating the display myself or its something that will go on its own I hope
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk
edit: Yellow tinge is simply the display being warmer, I should have checked against my main desktop displays but instead compared it side by side to the Nexus 4 on 4.3 calibrations which the more I look at looks very cool i.e too much blue hence the white looks whiter but a bit too much, the N5 is just slightly warmer than the perfect display however it is actually really damn good and I would only reduce the temp by a very small percent to just get that hint of warmth down.
Display is better than the Nexus 4 calibrated, period.

Wow :0 I got my tracking code at midnight but its still not active just yet. Where you live? Where it ship from, Kentucky?
Sad to hear about the crappy speaker quality. One of the main reason I returned my G2, looks like the Nexus 5 might be using the same speaker setup.
It was literally the worst sounding (tinny, low volume) speaker I've ever heard on a smartphone. My Note 3 is equally tinny, but at least it's loud. =)
Oh well...

iphone 5s does the same thing. I think nokia or HTC are the only ones who actually care about sound

Not liking that the speaker is poor. Really hoped they would have learned from the N4 as that and the poor camera were the reasons I passed.
Seems the only thing they have learned is that placing the speaker on the rear is a bad move. No thought seems to have gone into the quality of the sound produced.
Wish it had surround sound like my n7.2 but oh well

Just something as good as the N95 / 5800 (hard to beat) and even the iPhone which also has only one speaker would be sufficient. I can understand the need to keep costs down but surely the speaker components can't be that dear.
A crappy speaker spoils the user experience for me as I rarely use headphones.
