[Q] Marshmallow weird internet (DNS??) problem - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all!
I'm having a very weird problem with my mobile and wifi internet.
Running stock rooted 6.0 on my nexus 5.
My cell reception icon in the status bar is continually showing an exclamation mark and i can't load any pages in chrome.
I tried to re-enter my provider APN settings but this did not help.
Tried switching between 4g/3g/2g, no luck.
Numerous reboots did not help either.
The weird thing is though that i still receive push mail and can send and receive messages in Whatsapp, and i can even download apps through the playstore.
I tried chrome, firefox and opera mini, and only opera can actually load any webpages. This led me to believe it to be a DNS problem, however if i enter an ip-adres in chrome i still get a timeout or 'not-connected' error.
Wifi has a similar problem, in that it says 'connected, no internet', both at home and at work, while other phones work fine on the same networks. Also, i can still control my Philips hue lights through my home network.
Basically i have exhausted all ideas except for a factory reset, but i wanted to ask you guys for suggestion before i try that.
Any help will be greatly appreciated!

[Q] Very annoying problem with Android 2.3.6 connection type.

Hello,
So here's a challenge for anyone willing to resolve this matter:
When I'm connected via 3G, my phone (Atrix - running Gingerbread 2.3.6) can download ANY video link (I click on download/watch video and the message to choose the app pops up, the video plays just fine).
HOWEVER, if I'm connected via WiFi, all I get it an error page saying "this webpage is not available". Nothing happens. No popups, no video, nothing.
I tested using another WiFi connection, different routers, tried turning off/on the phone, different browsers (Dolphin, Opera and Android native) and NOTHING seems to work.
I came to the conclusion this is something related to IP, DNS or Proxy configuration maybe, but I don't understand how to deal with this kind of thing on a cellphone running Android.
So, anyone having similar problems or with any possible solutions? I don't know what may have caused the problem to start happening!

[Q] WiFi strange behavior

I got my daughter her tab 7.7 about 6 months ago & had been going on perfectly. Android version is 3.2 & I have no easy measures to update for the time being.
For internet connection she uses only my WiFi secure connection. It was working fine all this time.
Today she can't log to her Facebook account via the Facebook app. I checked it out to find that I can log in via the browser but not the app. I thought it may need updating and tried Google play store but I was astonished to find it not working too as it gives me "No Connection. Try again".
I noticed that the WiFi mark is white & not showing the green strength marks, but connection is confirmed by the WiFi name. I was shocked when I tried the software update from "about" when it gave me the "no connection message" despite working WiFi connection. Samsung app is working perfectly & I can update its applications.
Also funny thing happened, when I tried the browser it kept giving me certificate errors many times.
I tried the VPN as I googled around but nothing changed. Same problem.
Switching off & on didn't help either.
Any Clues??
Thanks
Most strange thing happened.
Everything is back to normal without me doing anything.
I left the tab for a while while writing the previous post.
When I came back I found the app update mark showing up, I turned on the WiFi & touched the update icon, the strength signal showed in the WiFi & update started the goggle app. All went normally. Facebook app worked & even the browser certificate errors disappeared. The software update in the "about" worked fine & checked & found no updates.
What is going on...
Can anyone explain to me what's happening?
Thanks

Try Power Cycling your modem/router. That often corrects connection issues. Presume other devices were connecting just fine?

[Q] Internet Not Working

Hey everyone,
So, I was using my nexus 5 in my university over wifi and it was working all fine and then all of a sudden the internet stopped and I couldn't browse or use any app that requires an internet connection. I switched off my wifi and turned over to my 3g connection and the problem was still there that is it would connect and everything but it wouldn't allow me to browse or use any such application, I tried restarting the phone, clear the cache through recovery, gave it a soft reboot but the problem still persists even with the wifi that I have at my home. I have tried opera and chrome and both of them are not working, neither is whatsapp, facebook or anything that requires an internet connection. Chrome says "erro code: DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NO_INTERNET" while opera said "DNS lookup failed" and the same error comes over both wifi and data network.
Would really appreciate if someone could help me with it cause I need the internet to work on my phone as I can't carry a laptop everywhere. :/

Wifi problem

So i have a problem with my wifi. Whenever im browsing reddit/facebook or similar apps, at some point images just stop loading, same with games like Fate/Go, i just get disconnected from the server and i have to disable and enable wifi again. This only happens on wifi.
I tried restarting the network settings but that didnt help.
This is not my home wifi connection problem since other devices work just fine.
If you have twrp, then you should do a FULL BACKUP first before trying fixes.
.
Simple first step, uninstall and then reinstall browser. Did you try another browser. I'm on Chrome beta. My home router is a netgear R7000 and I had to go get a security patch ( several times now ! ) . . .
This doesnt happen in browser, also im not rooted and dont have unlocked bootloader.
Did you resolve this issue? Im facing the same problem and looking for a solution

Question Strange network behaviour

Hi guys,
I have a very strange behaviour of my P7P.
When I activate the flight mode, the displays shows the corresponding logos. But I still have internet connection via mobile network.
When activating Wi-Fi, the connection switches to Wi-Fi.
The phone is not rooted but I installed Tasker and toggled flight mode dependent on the location an also did this with Wi-Fi- Therefore, I installed Tasker settings (old version as proposed by Tasker developer to be able to switch Wi-Fi).
Additionally, I installed aodNotify. The rest of the apps is pretty much normal (banking, wallet, some games, nothing specific to mention).
For some time, restarting the phone led to a not connecting mobile connection but this is working now.
I already reset the network settings without any benefit.
Is there anyone with a similar experience or hint how to solve that strange issue?
Best regards,
Matthias
One thing to add: When restarting the phone in the state of flight mode being enabled, I can't get any mobile network connection afterwards no matter what I try.
Only by starting the phone again, it will be possible to connect again.
Just tried what you wrote here, and I can't reproduce your issue, are you sure you have internet connection, or is the phone showing cached info?
Sounds like you need to factory reset the phone, and or ensure you are running the latest firmware.
I also thought about cached info but ensured it was not. I received (new) mails, messenger messages from WhatsApp and Threema and other stuff.
By checking the IP, I saw that the mobile connection was the problem. The Wi-Fi was disconnected.
Ich flashed to the BETA program, that didn't solve the issue.
So I factory resetted yesterday and everything is fine now.
I can only imagine that my old Tasker settings somehow mixed things up and caused that behaviour. But I was not able to find out what it was exactly.
