hi guys,
i'm on stock 5.1.1. On a s6 sm-g920f, rooted with unikernel, installed twrp. now i'd like to install axis rom which is 5.0.2 based.
with their RLS3 release they've noted: "NOTICE: This ROM no longer flashes a kernel! This means it uses the kernel that is already loaded on your device. If you flashed a 5.1.1 ROM and are planning on flashing RLS3, you MUST also flash a 5.0.2 kernel.".
1. Is there kernel I could use from glewarne (not allowed to post links yet )?
2. is even possible or a good idea to install a 5.0.2 custom ROM (in my case axis) while I'm already on 5.1.1?
3. if the answer is yes would this be the procedure: install AXIS ROM in TWRP, install 5.0.2. Kernel in TWRP, REBOOT? or do I have to downgrade bootloader, modem etc.?
Please help and excuse me for being a noob
Come on guys. Didn't realize my question was that stupid anything??
It won't work. A 5.0.2 ROM needs a 5.0.2 bootloader. And atm downgrading the bootloader is a no-go.
Thanks!

If you flash a custom ROM, let's say 5.0.2, it will have been built from 5.0.2 source code. Therefore it is 5.0.2, although modified to some degree. Each custom ROM generally has instructions on what to do before flashing it, which is usually just wiping system, data, dalvik and cache partitions in recovery.

the custom rom is the firmware youre flashing..
i recommend you to flash this rom (stock) optimized version , as it has better battery backup and so for the moto g

Ok, so it doesn't really matter if I'm running KK right now, If I flash a custom 5.0.2 it will also put my phone on 5.0.2?
Sorry I know quite a few things, but I know almost nothing at all about all this stuff.

No, only if youre in GPE there is an additional step to be done , or else youre good to go..
i quoted the answer for your question from the thread -
Do I need to downgrade to 4.4.4 before flashing these ROMs?
No. However an additional step is required if you are currently running a GPE ROM; see next question.
Can I flash this ROM if I'm GPE?
Stock Motorola ROMs require a F2FS 'userdata' partition. If you are GPE, or have ever been; you may need to convert to Stock. More info in FAQ here.
:good:
Hey guys,
I am currently on the 4.4.4 stock rom with the latest Code Blue kernel (Built 450). In addition my phone has an unlocked bootloader, is rooted, got CWM Recovery and has Xposed installed.
Now I want to upgrade to the latest Lollipop version. I always get the notification "A systemupgrade is available" in the notificationbar.
So my first question is: Can I simply upgrade my phone from a stock KitKat rom with a costum Kernel to Lollipop via OTA?
If not, should I "just" flash the latest Lollipop rom via ADB or CWM?
Thanks, and every answer is appreciated!
No one?
I recommend this
In short, if you are already rooted / unlocked bootloader etc, there is no point in using OTA update.
Hey guys,
I'm a bit confused on how to flash the above mentioned rom as I'm still on 5.0.2 even though the update is actually already out.
What confuses and scares me is the warning about the bootloader and modem...
Anyone did go from 5.0.2 to 5.1.1 and flash xtrestolite as rom?
Help would be appreciated, I'm too used to the easy flashing of nexus devices
flash stock 5.1.1 , flash twrp through odin (take from their website to your device),**** flash unikernel I think for root access ****, and then flash xtrestolite from twrp.
**** = maybe not needed, but just in case

Everything is actually mentioned in his thread. Read it and ask if you have more questions.
But short. Flash 5.1.1 bootloader and modem, flash 5.1.1 stock, flash twrp, install XtreStoLite.

Why would we flash the bootloader and modem first? Wouldn't the 5.1.1. stock include it all?

I have absolutely no idea. I couldn't get on 5.1.1 before that, but I may have different something wrong. But it can't hurt, to do the above.
Judy follow the instructions on the thread.
Hey guys i have a problem with 5.1.1 and twrp 2.8.7.1: when i reboot in recovery i can't see my phone in windows explorer and i'm unable to copy the rom on the phone. Do you have the same issue?
Hey hoping someone can just help answer my question on flashing my phone.
Currently I have a rooted G920F S6 running 5.1.1.
What I want is a bloatware free minimalistic ROM, so I chose to install is XtreStoLite 3.3.1 FINAL Marshmallow Android 6.0.1,
Do I have to update the firmware first? I tried with Samsung smart share but it freezes everytime I try to use the program.
Any help be great
Is your current software version an official Samsung one? For android 6.0.1 you need a custom kernel for your S6. Find one that supports the 6.0.1 bootloader and then a custom recovery like TWRP.
Sent from my SM-N910H (DN5 v0.6)
Hey mazwi thanks for the reply. Yes it's the official stock one running 5.1.1.
Phone is rooted and twrp installed I just wanted to be sure I could install the rom straight away without anything else.
Any advice on this kernel be glad great help?
To flash successful a 6.0.1 rom
First you need to flash modem and bootloader that are compatible with MM using odin.

Second make a factory reset
Third flash the rom
Fourth Enjoy your new rom
As for the kernel it will work 100% with the stock but arter's kernel in my opinion is the best.
*flash the kernel after the rom

im running a stock firmware on samsung S6 SM-G920F after fixing a phone looping.
Currently its Andriod version 5.0.2 and Im unable to do an over the air upgrade which is fine.
Its rooted with kingRoot and has custom recovery TWRP which works.
Im unable to install xda-framework as this is a stock ROM.
Tried out a few ROMS but it keeps looping.
Are there any custom roms which work with 5.0.2 and allow the xda-framework to install?
Maybe there are 5.0.2 Roms but not much. I would Art least recommend to upgrade to 5.1.1 wenden you don't want 6.0.1. for 5.1.1 there are more Roms to find.
