Google Maps not getting GPS (solved) - Xiaomi Mi 4C

Hi,
if you find yourself in the situation that Google Maps is not getting a location and does not even turn on GPS (no tray icon) while other map apps are working fiine, then maybe you suffer from the same problem as me:
In my case, some app permissions to "Get Location Info" were messed up.
Miui forum pointed towards the solution:
http://en.miui.com/forum.php?mod=redirect&goto=findpost&ptid=182587&pid=3438377
Enable "get location info" permission using the MIUI Security app for Google Maps, Google Play Services and Google Services Framework.
Hope this helps someone..
Jo

[Q] Google Maps

I can't find Google Maps on my TF300. There is no icon on the desktop and none in the installed apps screen.
However, when I go to the Google Store, it allows me to update the app, then allows me to open the app. It runs fine. After I close it, the app disappears and I can't find the icon.
Somebody clue me in... Please !!!
Have you looked for just "Maps"? That's google maps. On mine there was an icon on the desktop when I got it.

There is no icon named Maps, Google Maps, or anything similar. Since I did not delete any apps, it has me wondering about 'hidden' apps.
Did you download the Maps app?
I have maps on mine, starting from stock.
On the home screen, swipe one screen to the right. It's in a folder called "Google Services".
Make sure in your app drawer you are under the apps tab. Not sure if it exists on the stock launcher, but on apex i have a downloaded tab and it doesn't show any preinstalled apps under that tab.

My 'Google Services' has 4 apps: Search, Messenger, Google+, Play Store, Gmail, and Talk. My Settings screen shows that Maps is a Downloaded App.
Still no sign of an icon - and no easy to start maps. Am I the only one with this setup?
Strange, I've got 10 apps under my google services. Search, Messenger, Google+, Play Store, Maps, Places, Latitude, Navigation , Gmail and talk. And I haven't messed with that icon. Are you too far in to do a factory reset?

I'm sorry that you can't see my screens . I still have only 4 items under Google Services. BUT, suddenly Maps appeared in the App Drawer. I have not used the tablet all afternoon - so, no changes by me.
It is disturbing that we have such different configurations - right from the factory.
Go to market and download.....resolved.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using XDA
Go to market, it says installed right? Uninstall and reinstall from there.

"Google play services are updating"

Hi there!
Since recently, on my Note 4, whenever an app wants to load Google Maps (Like sports trackers for instance), it doesn't load a map, but instead gives a message "Google play services are updating".
Google Maps itself is working fine.
I use Cyanogenmod. I used Google to try and solve my issue, but no suggestions so far helped. I'm trying to avoid having to do a factory reset. Anyone any suggestions?
Thanks in advance!

Failed Retrieving Accounts with Google Voice

When I try to use the Google Voice app, it launches and gets stuck at the "Sign in to your Google Account" screen, with a brief message at the bottom that says "Failed retrieving accounts." It works fine on my Nexus 4 running Nougat (Lineage). Anyone able to use the Google Voice app on the Pixel 2?
I also notice some other weird account behavior, like in the maps app, in the side pane, I don't see my account name to sign in, but I do see it in a pop up if I click on "add account" (and can log in with maps--as well as Play and other apps).
Any thoughts what's up with Google Voice? Uninstalling it and reinstalling it did not help. Neither did restarting the phone several times.

[Edit: OMG, I answered my own question after futzing with this for more than an hour. It turned out that Google Play Services did not have permission to access contacts on my device and that caused the weirdness on Google Voice and Maps also.
So I went to: Apps & Notifications > All apps > Google Play services > Permissions and then flipped the switch to enable contacts.
I guess when the pop up says, "If you deny this permission, basic features of your device may no longer function as intended," they mean it. When I was disabling some of this stuff, I figured Google was just trying to scare me away from giving them more personal information (which Google probably considers a basic feature).
The funny thing is that on my Nexus 4 with Lineage, Google Play services has permission to access contacts, in the same place in the settings. But then in the Privacy Guard settings I set it to ignore requests to read or modify contacts from Google Play services and that apparently does not interfere with how it manages accounts. In fact, Privacy Guard says Google Play services has never tried to read or modify my contacts, even though it apparently needs permission to do so or won't work correctly. Weird.]
In my case it was not a permissions issue. My Google Play Services was very old and not updating itself. Loading the latest APK fixed the issue with Google Voice (via Apkmirror). I could not even update from the Play Store.

Google Maps "Can't Connect" to any searched location using my Google Account

Google Maps "Can't Connect" to any searched location using my Google Account
This is a little strange error I've started facing since last 2-3 days. I'm not able to search for any location on Google Maps using my Google Account on my Google Pixel (Android Pie). Whenever I try to search any location under the explore tab I get a toast "Can't Connect". However, if I try to switch to a different Google Account on Google Maps, then the search work absolutely fine. Also, when I try to search on desktop version of Google Maps using the same old Google Account it works absolutely fine. I've tried uninstalling all updates to Google Maps, clearing data, clearing cache but no luck. A few other people have also reported similar issue on the Play Store page of Google Maps. Please help me on this.
It sounds to me like it doesn't like something in your Google account settings; maybe some privacy setting, or something.
Have you tried testing while connected to different networks?

Why We need to have GMS?

Hello,
I would like to open some discussion regarding the GMS and all workarounds and restoring unknown backups! if you check the info.xml file within any of these backups you would find model, build, identification, and serials different from what you have!! and running some Chinese application that has devices administrator with all privileges on your devices!
I know that vanced youtube is using microg project for adding google account. is it possible to have something similar for chrome and maps? I mean microg-chrome or microg-maps?
Thanks

I was having issues with some location based apps. For instance google maps and a dating/hookup app. Google Maps would open and then immediately force close. The dating app would say that this app cant run without google play services which your device is not eligible for. What I did: Factory reset phone-install GMS-Made sure all of my accounts were logged into-Installed all apps that I wanted from play store-Then I used an app to freeze google play services and Google services framework-uninstalled the play store.
I then opened my dating app and bam it worked where as before it couldnt detect my location. All was good with that. As far as Google Maps it would still immediately force close, so I uninstalled it. I installed an earler version of Google Maps before my mate 30 pro 5g was released and bam. It worked. My account is logged into and Maps works perfectly with no force closes. I tested it twice now as far as navigation goes. I also had a problem with the Google Voice app. It said having problems retrieving your accounts. This was before I used an app to freeze Google services framework and play services. When I opened Google voice after the freeze, everything went perfect and it recognized my accounts.
As far as apps goes I use petal search to find any apps or apkpure.
Hope this helped!
By the way here is the freeze app that I used. Just follow the instructions to install and then freeze those two Google apps:
