Help choosing which method to use to flash - General Questions and Answers

Hello. I have a Samsung Galaxy s4 from atnt (sgh-i337) and I'm looking to flash this rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2313469. I am on the t-mobile network so which instruction would I follow as atnt and t-mobile have a different process. Any help will be much appreciated. Thank you.

You have an att phone. That's what matters most what carrier you're on.

Why I do not receive the latest 4.2.2. OTA update?

Hello,
I have recently bought from eBay a beautiful new HTC One SV and I wonder why I cannot receive the latest 4.2.2 upgrade through OTA.
I asked the HTC support in UK and they told me the phone is branded Virgin UK and I have to wait for them to release the upgrade. But I read on other post that the upgrade is already available from Virgin mobile.
I tried to unlock the phone, doing several factory reset, changed the sim to a different provider, but no success... Now the phone is re-locked.
This is the current configuration:
sw: 2.14.401.6
CID: HTC__001
Android version: 4.1.2
Can somebody please help me to get the latest 4.2.2 update?
Thanks!
Alberto

Probably a dumb question but have you attempted a manual update check on your phone in 'settings>>system updates>>HTC software update'?

Hi Modding.MyMind,
Thanks for your answer. I have tried yes, several times but no success... It always says your sw is the latest version.
When I switched on the phone the first time, there was a system update of about 34Mb and nothing more.
The sw is still 4.1.2.
You may need to sit and be patience then. Sometimes a new device that has been activated needs to be processed in the system through their database. Not sure how long you have had your device activated though. I would think at most, a week (and that is pushing it lol).

If the update is already available for your device with virgin mobile then I would assume someone has already provided a download link for the ota. However, I don't have it, but I would suggest downloading it if you can find it and attempt that route.

I have activated the phone about 3 weeks ago... Where do you think can I find the right OTA? And how can I install it manually?
Thanks!
Android ruu. Google that. There is a website by that name. Scroll down to K2 and select the link. There you can find OTA's. Though, I do not know if it has the one you need honestly. Also, check out @old.splatterhand index thread. You would need to place it on your internal sdcard and then reboot. If the right one you should get a notification at the top of your phone.

In my opinion, this the available "free" software of an unbranded phone.
Regarding htcdev.com, Virgin mobile Software number should be 2.14.652.6 or 2.14.351.6 (if i'm not totally wrong).

Maybe this OTA might help.It has the same software version as yours.

Hi!
I also though it was unbranded, but I asked the HTC support and after checking the IMEI, they told me is branded Virgin.

Put the update on your device's SD card and flash it from within recovery (TWRP, CWM, possibly stock)
I don't think you can flash OTA zips through custom recovery....
Not unless you know what you are doing when modifying it lol. But lets keep it simple

Fair point. So, with stock recovery installed, we could apply from sdcard or apply from phone storage
Internal sdcard (phone storage)

An OTA is downloaded in the /storage/sdcard0/Download/ directory and once applied it is removed. However, if saved and not applied it will remain there. Anyways, that is the location where it is normally stored when you get that notification (assuming it is the proper OTA).

But I would think that being on the root of the internal sdcard is fine. Though personally have not given that a go for myself so I am only guessimating on that one lol.

Actually, now that I think of it.... Stock recovery comes with a prebuilt feature very similar to CWM. So with that said, guess the location wouldnt necessarily matter if applied that way.

[Q] How can I root a Verizon SCH-I535 4.3?

Hi,
I was recently given a stock Verizon SCH-I525 but unfortunately they had upgraded it to android 4.3. I have tried almost every way to root this thing with no luck. How do I go about rooting this version? If I can't, is there a way to flash it back to one of the older versions and then root it?
Thanks
Jim
Would Also Like to know if this is possible?

sim unlock

Does anyone know if the US variant can be sim unlocked instead of being locked to carrier? Without contacting the carrier........
My T-Mobile US version came with an app installed for this very purpose. It's named Device Unlock.

Just go to any of the unlocking services on the Internet.
After doing that, even since you will not be using an AtT sim, will you still get OTA updates even tough you are using it with other carrier?

Yes, unless device rooted
Or tampered, Network doesn't matter.

My fully paid T-Mo device doesn't unlock with that
Same duration on Network limits.
Carriers are inflexible
And I'm not blowing more time chasing them.

Really? So if I unlock my device I will get the updates via OTA? Because from what I've read AT&T phones only get the ota if using an att sim.

Is Hong Kong model best option right now?

I need root on my phone.
It seems like both Exynos and HK Snapdragon variants can be rooted, but reading the Exynos's poor SOT and idle battery drain is concerning. I do admit that there are some users reporting improved performance with latest updates but the fact that some are still experiencing this within the past month is worrisome.
I've come to the conclusion that HK S10e will meet my needs as it can be rooted and SD performance is generally better than Exynos. Its network also works in Australia.
Is there anything I have not considered?
Aa far as I know USA version is also using Snapdragon.

It doesn't look like the US version can be rooted, only the HK Snapdragon can.
