coming from nexus 6 - Xperia Z3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys I'm looking at swapping my nexus 6 with the gf for her new z3 just want to ask a couple of questions if possible
Is it true that rooting the phone will make your camera worse somehow or you loose features of the phone ect?
I want to keep the bootloader locked so I don't loose bravia act I want to just install a custom ROM and recovery so I'm guessing I can do this fine without unlocking the bootloader?
Its running the latest stock ROM do I need to downgrade to a older version before root?
Also maybe bit silly asking here am I crazy swapping the nexus 6 for the z3 or is it a good move lol
Thanks

I've got a Nexus 6, 6P and the Z3. All are great phones. Sometimes I like using the Z3 due to its size, brighter screen, and camera. Also, battery life is awesome. Before you consider rooting, unlocking, etc. You should give the marshmallow concept build a try.

Does it have an affect on anything as far as rooting like breaking camera ect or is it just unlocking the bootloader that does

Just chill Bro, downgrade to 5.0.1 and root it with kingroot, ur bootloader won't unlock, install nuts dual recovery, then install wolfbreak's rom v 12.3, viola ur done, you will get a perfect rom with superb sound u never ever heard since ur born, buy some cool headphones like mdr 31em, ur good to go Bro,
Enjoy your z3 better late then never, give ur nexus to your pets

Thanks I think I will lol so rooting doesn't break anything as I heard it messed up the camera somehow
Is the audio and display as good as everyone says as I haven't had chance to play with it yet and is they much difference between 801 and 805 in real life not interested in benchmarks lol
Thanks again

To finally answer your question:
Unlocking your bootloader is what breaks the "TA" partition, you can get root without unlocking.
However, unlike other people further above suggest, I would not advise you to root with kingroot, as it sends the IMEI of your phone to an IP in China, no one knows what's happening there. There are various very easy guides in this forum, you will have to downgrade to 4.4.4, root it, and then flash an pre-rooted ROM, no hassle really.
I like the display, though it's slightly on the blueish side, but its really fine. Audio - well, the speakers are on the front, but a bit silent, no worries though, there's a mod for that.
To get a custom ROM you will most likely have to unlock your bootloader, loosing all PlayStation connections and the enhanced image procedure, to this point there are only some minor workarounds.
Edit: some ROMS work on locked too.

there is difference between 801 and 805 but developers ported z5 files for z3 so? noo need to worry , just give a try bro you wont regret

So I think I'm doing the right thing swapping to the Xperia z3 just don't want to loose the bravia or camera firmware ect
Does the new z5 apps come with the display tweaks ect just thought the 801 processor would lag or something compared to the 805
Sorry for all the questions just will be swapping tonight if I do lol

Even if you want to unlock bootloader also there are tuts for backing up drm key and restoring them, nothing will be hurt,
Most of z5 stuffs has been ported but I dont get too much surprises from them, I just need high resolution Audio thats it.
hey about that lag thing, its doesnot exist (805 - 801) = 4 (minor difference)

Congratulations on you new device.
The first thing I noticed was the speed and smoothness and crisp, bright screen.
You should enable the ART runtime in Developer options as soon as you can.

I don't mean to be rude, but there are about 50 threads exactly like this. No one can really tell you what to expect besides yourself. :good:
But just to give you something. Unlock the boot loader as soon as you get it.
You have an awesome experience to look forward to, that's what.

You sillys and your obsession with stock and ota updates. You know you can manually get the newest likely even before ota is pushed. But if you want to sit around and wait that hopefully it gets pushed on time, go right ahead. Plus its a nexus. Returning to stock after unlocking is so incredibly easy that you should not fear experimenting in the meantime. But do as you wish, its your device.

Understandable, and definitely exciting, mine was shipped when I was away from home on vacation, so not only did I have to wait for it to become available, but then for it to ship home, and then again for me to return home. The wait is well worth it.
Unlock the bootloader, as if you decide to do this later it will wipe your data if you do not backup
Unlock developer options and switch from dalvik to ART runtime. This will make your device run much smoother than it does
Disable unused and background processes ( I disable Cloud, Printing, Language packs personally )
Under developer options, I personally change "Don't Keep Activities" as I notice it greatly assists my battery life.
Everyone's experience may vary, but have fun finding out what works for you.

my 2 cents are: for a few days / weeks keep the thing as it came. if there are any hidden bugs, well it will be easier to rma.
then up to you what you want to do, there are "endless" possibilities.
I always like to unlock the bootloader first at least, before I get too comfortable with stock.
Thanks everyone! I too love threads like these. Feels like I'm part of the community
So I'm going to unlock the bootloader, root, enable ART (which should be fun to try out!), and pull out a few tweaks.
I think I will stay stock, but maybe use Xposed.
Thanks for all the input! I really like the suggestions.

So you're coming from a fast phone to another fast phone. The things the Nexus 5 has over the Note 3 is better Google Experience, better customization, no crappy TouchWiz.

I was using ART for a while, but switched back so I could try Xposed + GravityBox. Not going back to ART now... the customization features GravityBox provides are worth way more than the minor speed increase ART gives... and with those features I don't really even feel the need to use a custom ROM. If there's one thing I could recommend, it would definitely be this.
Yes I would educate myself about rooting/ unlocking the bootloader and make that one of the first things, reason being is that unlocking the bootloader erases everything on the phone. I mean you can make backups but I personally have never made a backup of anything.

Mate 7 was released October 2014. Five Months to go for it's first birthday. Go get an HTC or a Sony. LOL
LOL
Well this beta will the first EVIDENCE of the existance of Lollipop for Mate 7...
oh my god this frustrating just release it now please.. I am desperate for some performance increase and better GUI speed...
It gets more and more frustrated, the frustrating has been freezed earlier cause I have been amazed by the big screen experience and good screen, but now when I am used to it I am more frustrated with the slow performance and multi tasking.. I know most people will not notice it but if you work fast and switch between apps fast constantly you get frustrated... Lollipop hopefully improve some things.
The people who do not demand better speed they just use their phone slow, and do not notice the lag.. the lag is for me noticeable.
I assume you already tried changing the power saving mode, considering the default one isn't optimized for performance...
Also lowering the animation scale in the developer options.
Hi guys,
I trust Huawei are sure that by May the new firmware release LP.

Should I buy Idol 3?

Hey guys, I'm planning to buy this phone because I found a great deal and I really love the phone after watching reviews. But I'd like to have some advice. What are your experiences with the device? My main concerns are display, camera and battery. Also, I noticed It doesn't have much support from devs, which is very important to me. I saw there's a cm12 ROM. How does it work? Is it smooth? Bugs? Also any chance of getting cm13?
Thank you guys, I'd really appreciate some help!!

This is my honest opinion coming from a Nexus 6 (RIP)
This phone is actually not bad, battery life is good, camera is good to me in good lighting.
Display is excellent in my opinion.
One, two or three Roms is better than none.
CM is pretty stable and smooth for daily use, just make sure you follow the install instructions.
But just like any Roms out there, there's always gonna be bugs lol
There will be Cm13 as soon a few minor bugs has been fix.
No need to move on quick without taking care of those first that way we'll have a better experience on Marshmallow
Hope that helps.

Thanks for your reply. I think the hardware is ok, I come from a Galaxy S3 so I don't expect too much from it. What I really love is the processor and RAM. But the most important to me is being able to run cyanogenmod. So there is no limitation in terms of rom development? Lack of sources or something? And by bugs I meant important bugs like nfc not working etc.
Thank you again!!

Well,sources arent a problem!
And the current bug is the fact that the phone isnt "reversible" anymore on CM(only one side-the upper one-can be used for calls),and that the dual sim variant has to settle with using only one sim(for now).
As for the roms, there are CM,Vanir and AICP,and I am working on bringing even more roms.
But I suggest buying this device only if you are planning on buying the 5.5 inch variant, and not the 4.7 inch one.
I am glad roms work without major issues. I'd even try to build some if it's not too difficult for me(I'm a begginer dev). And yeah, I bought the 5.5 variant, waiting for it to arrive. I think the phone is great, the only downside I find is the video recording. Anyway I don't use that too much.
i got 6039
display, speakers, sound on headphones, performance, call sound quality - verry good
camera is good on sunny days. indoors hdr a little help. but there is one small fault - volume microphone. its too quiet from videos or dictaphone . does not apply to calls.
Screen resolution, speakers and ease of use is great on this device.
Can be a little laggy, but not too bad. For $200, it's a great deal for the money. It's no Samsung G6 or an iPhone 6, but it'll hang with all the other mid range phones.
Just be sure to be careful of the glass screen, is vulnerable to crack and a repair will set you back $100 unless you can fix it yourself.
I can only recommended it if you plan to install CM or other custom ROM. Stock ROM lags. Make sure you also flash the camera MOD from @Androidcid. Phone has band 12 but not sure that it works when used on T-Mobile.

I don't know is it just the 5.5" variant, but I've seen few devices running on the same SoC and they stutter way more than my 4,7" variant on the SD 410. So if you already unsure if you should get one,get the smaller one. The display is good, the sound is amazing and the camera is meh, it gets the job done. As for the battery, I usually get 4h and 30min SOT,when it hits under 20% .
Thank you guys, I already have the 5.5 variant on my hand and I have to say it's awesome, the display is great, and it's super light for its size. I installed NOVA launcher and the device is pretty smooth. But I'm really disappointed with the camera, it's just awful. I'm really struggling to get any detail on people's face even with flash. Does it also happen to you guys?
In my opinion the camera is quite correct for the price. I think the word "awful" is a bit exaggerated.

I don't know if it's because I updated the firmware, but now the camera performs much better than when I first tested it. This is an awesome device!
BTW, do you know if I can take RAW pictures somehow?
I see there are many variants of this device. Mine is 6045Y. What is the difference between them?
For the camera : yes since the update it performs much better.
For the raw pictures : I don't know, I'm an "awful" photographer.

Mi 4C is it worth it?

Hello all,
I hope your devices are treating you well.
I currently have a Nexus 4, which the support for is slowly dying. Therefore, I need to buy a new well supported phone.
First off, I really like the Mi 4C. However, I fear that it will become obsolete and follow the N4's fate really soon. Is that true?
Second, when I got the N4, I realized that there were some issues that people didn't speak much about such as noise while in phonecalls because of the proximity sensor and some headset buttons not working. Are there any similar - or untold - problems like that?
Finally, some rumors are popping out about the Mi5, do you think its worth the wait?
Any and all answers are appreciated. Thank you.
IMO if you really like vanilla android, fast updates and vast amount of custom ROMs, you will probably gonna miss that on Xiaomi's phone
My last phone was Moto G first gen and my first impression after moving to Xiaomi (MIUI) is that some features from vanilla android are missing on MIUI. I really missed that on the first couple of weeks but I learn to live without that for a few more weeks, had enough and switched to CM12 ROMs
Don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with the hardware. It's just I didn't really like MIUI
I think you should try MIUI first to see if you like it or not and you can always use custom ROMs if you want.

Little things like expanding notifications on the lock screen without pulling notification drawer, task switcher design, inconsistent notification color and overall UI experience is less polished than vanilla android.
It looks like a minor thing but once it's gone I really missed that.
Well MIUI isn't so bad, just a bit different and needs time to get used to. The device seems the best 5' vfm right now. Upon release of kernel sources I'm sure it will get proper dev support too.
Thanks for all your answers.
The way I understand it now is that the device doesn't have proper dev support due to the lack of an open source kernel. Was the release of this kernel a rumor or was it confirmed?
Also, can you guys please answer me about the wait for Mi 5 and the device's hardware issues?
Thanks again

4c is probably the best bang for buck phone you can get now, great specs incl ir blaster, great camera, loud speaker although mono. Only thing keeping it back is kernel sources but that hasn't stopped 2 different cm roms coming on it.
I also came from a Nexus 4 and this is a great upgrade and I expect it have support for 3 years at least.
Mi5 will be great phone with flagship specs so at least wait for the official reveal and prices. If I were in your position I'd probably lean towards the mi5
I just got this Mi-4c a few days ago from a friend. Honestly, I love MIUI. I used to have a ROM with it on my old Motorola Triumph from Virgin Mobile. I think it's amazing with the themes. Pair in different fonts and live wallpapers and I'm in love.
I currently use an iPhone 6s as my primary, have a Note 3 for media, a BlackBerry Z10 just because and a Lumia 640 for the same reason.

I'm using stock MIUI 7. Luckily I'm pretty familiar with the layout, so I can navigate easily even though everything is in Chinese. I figure if I want to modify, I can always do it. For now though, I'm enjoying it the way it came.
Only thing I've done is get the Playstore and the Google installer. Besides that, I liked the phone as it came.

Yes, it is a pretty neat phone. I actually like MIUI, more than I thought. But it bugs me, that I can't set the DPI. That's actually the only thin preventing me from using MIUI. Also, I can't seem to be able to download Theme or anything from the MI Store.
Did you check if you had any malware installed when you got it? Mine was infected when I got it. I just bought one for my significant other, got it today, and found out that it too was infected, had TWRP installed and Xiaomi.eu as ROM. :silly:

Why can't you download themes? I use a third party to buy the Mi credits.
I don't see any malware. I could be wrong though, anything I should be looking for?
Thanks!

You can manually chnange the DPI:
1) Install a terminal emulator
2) Type in "su" and grant Superuser rights
3) Type in "wm density YOURDPI"
4) Reboot.
Just replace YOURDPI with the dpi you want, for example 380.
Horizontal multi-multitasking they way they do it sux. Just give me lollipop carousel and MIUI is everything iOS should be but never will be.

Should I bother trying to speed up my s8+?

I bought this phone 2 days ago and I have to say it does have delays stutters and everything. the animations aren't smooth at all.
I was trying to see if anyone had any luck trying to make it faster.
my animations are on 0.5x and i have disabled a lot of packages but freaked out a bit about KNOX. should I disable that too? I'm not sure if it made much of a difference since it's slower but I did get a lot more battery life on my s7 edge after doing this!

install the PAS like a normal app. Reboot. Change animations to .2 or .1
Profit.

Thanks! but I think even 0.5x is a bit too slow already! I love animations as long as they're not running at 12fps
The lower the setting the faster the phone will feel. in my opinion. So. .1 or .2 will feel faster than the .5 that you're using
Nope nope nope. If you want butter, and want to blow your d*ck off, install the Unlocked Firmware. Removes bloat, and it is as smooth as my pixel was. I'm seriously in shock still

As do I.
Follow the Unlocked Firmware installation instructions to a T. Including using the files that thread provides and you'll have the fastest and smoothest phone on the block.

Same problem here. But the rest says this device is perfect :silly: Really strange behavior for a flagship. But after a 1-2 weeks, u will get used to this.

Yeah! even the annoying ghosting of theSamsung AMOLEDs is gone! unless I got min which Is only at late night!
What's funny is that the only reason this phone lags is Samsung's bloatware!
Can't they just ask us if we want the features at the beginning (First boot? like stock android or Samsung experience)

I bought mine unlocked!
Hi there . Got the same problem . I got before iPhone 6s plus nexus 6 nexus 6p oneplus 3t and many more . When I pick up Samsung a8+ i don't have lag . I have low performance or slow os or I don't know how to define the point is my phone move so slow .I changed the animation . I got the unlocked version . I don't know how to debloat but I tried different thinks on my s8 to make it faster with no luck . I think the 7.0 is the problem. On 7.1.1 the speed improve a bit for sure . O hope they will fix it with a software update or something . Or xda guys manage to make lineage os or RESURECTION REMIX stable so we can get rid of lag .

It's not 7.0. it's the hundreds of bloat apps and services. Disabling hellos but to really deal with it you need to actually remove the apps from the device
Fixed. I just bought razer phone
