Heavy use endurance - OnePlus 2 Real Life Review

Playing Candy Crush for 22 hours straight can take its toll on your battery (and your marriage). Rate this thread to express how the OnePlus 2's battery performs under heavy use. A higher rating indicates that it lasts a long time even when playing games, streaming video and audio, and doing other CPU-intensive activities.

3300mah mustnt drain so fast

Depending on the game and how the game handle big little cores. In h2os beta I saw an improvement in the way it uses big cores for gaming and it doesn't use little as much as in lollipop, that is better performance and better battery life.

Playing almost non stop dokkan battle and using social messaging apps etc.. I range from 3-4 hours max (depending using Wi-Fi or data). This is on oxygen and bliss ROM.

not up to the expectations

Very bad. Phone drains faster then pouring out a packet of milk...

I play NFS No Limit at work around 2hrs (Shhh...) and by end of the day i always have around 30-20 % left (im on cm13 with benschholds kernel) and most of the time is NFS takes more power than the screen - avrg ratio 19%-17%- im pretty happy with this result, i think i will get around 6hrs play time (my screen is on half brightness most of the time)

Nexus 5 Battery Life on Gaming?

Hey guys! Just as the title says, approximately how many hours can the Nexus 5 handle while gaming? And I was wondering, do some smartphones drain their battery life easier than others when running certain apps because of their performance? Does performance have anything to do with battery drainage?
Thanks!
Not much
Like every battery post...depends entirely on many variables, so 'approximately' will still vary massively.
Consider for instance:
- screen brightness
- kernel settings e.g. thermal throttling
- data on/off e.g. ads?
- ultimately what games you are thinking about? There are a huge variety. Gaming itself is broad. Graphically and cpu intensive games will clearly use more energy to run than more casual games
Endurance will vary between phones due to similar reasoning. Then there are more variables like relative screen size, resolution, battery capacity, processor efficiency...and so on
You won't get many useful replies by asking this imo. This phone like any is limited by the laws of logic and physics. We could probably drain the battery in a few minutes playing Asphalt 8 at max brightness, or last many hours playing sudoku in the dark at minimum brightness...
If you want to know how many hours it'll last...test with games that you play, not what we play...
Have fun!
2-4 hours in my experience. Not all simple looking games are easy on the battery as they're often poorly coded or have many advertisements. Games that limit the CPU to only 1.2Ghz tend to last longer such as Swordigo but those are pretty rare.

Heat

Some phones are great to take camping because if you play Asphalt 8 long enough, the back warms up to the ideal temperature that can bake bread. Rate this thread to express the extent to which the OnePlus 2 stays cool under extended heavy use. A higher rating indicates that even when playing strenuous games for long periods of time, the phone doesn't get uncomfortably warm.

Heats while gaming and then it throttles. Phone itself doesn't get much hot but the metal frame can get uncomfortable

using a case solved this problem for me....
Heat is not an issue for me even when stressing the OP2 with mild gaming. It feels about as cool as my 6P in normal use.
No issue regarding heat for me. I can only get my phone slightly warm if i repeat geekbench over and over for 15 minutes

It gets hot as much as any other phone I have tested. The aluminium frame gets quite warm when gamming or any intensive cpu activity, but it's not a big issue.
Heat is an issue every time I reboot
Latest update 2.1.2 improved Op2 alot. earlier when I used to play NFS no limits on stock kernal temp raised upto 43 but now after update it hardly cross 41 degree. so heat management is improved alot. :good:
Great work OP team keep pushing updates :highfive:
I am also very happy with the new update 2.1.2. I am using AK kernel though, so I can't say how it works with stock... but can't complain about the heat issue.
When using cardboard phone gets to 50+ degrees
Heating is normal comparing to other phones..
Got a bit too warm but it's acceptable
heat
no problem for me. haven't exceeded high 90's F. i am not a gamer.
I've never had an issue with heat here

I'm on OxygenOS 2.2.0 and it works great.. it gets a little bit warm while playings havy games but it is cooler than my Nexus 4 or my sister's OnePlus One.. so it's ok for me!
Aggressive throttling
My note 3 was the only phone I have ever had heat issues with
I've had less heating issues on the oneplus 2 than the oneplus one
In all honesty I haven't had a problem with heat and my oneplus 2. Yes, it DOES get hotter than other phones, but not even close to uncomfortably hot. I am perfectly fine playing High Definition 3D games on my OPT
It got really uncomfortable playing high GPU/CPU intensive games. I had to quit gaming on mobile. Normal usage is fine.

Phone doesn't heat much, hovewer on the upper side you can definitely notice a lot higher temperature i.e. during playing heavy games
In my last use of MIUI 8.0.1.0 Global Stable, I have heat issues.
So bad, it felt like burning from inside. Switched to CM 13 (Now at CM 14), heat is minimum when playing heavy games.
I think it is about how bad MIUI optimization, or maybe MIUI 8 didn't mature enough at that time.
It gets hot charging and using wifi gaming at the same time
Hi all,
I'm using CM 13, and playing Real Racing 3, it gets extremely hot, not only the top, all the smartphone, it's really uncomfortable.
Do you think that updating to CM 14 the problem will solve?
Because it also starts slowing the image and the game jumps.
Best regards
Alec
My Mi 5 running unofficial lineage 14.1 by shade.sh and brand kernel does not heat up often. When it does occasionally heat up due to very intensive apps, its is very bearable and not too hot IMO. I am however using a thin rubber case and that may be the reason why I do not feel it being as hot as you described!
Thanks for the answer, yesterday night I changed to CM 14.1 and using RR3 it gets worm but not as hot as with CM 13.1
Regards
cool
Remember its just a computer with a "phone function". It does get warm under heavy load. But only when i really run games for at least 20min. And it may get hot if you install a new rom and tons of apps in a short period. Usually its cool (running official lineageos 14.1).
I have Lineage OS 14.1 Overclocked with dragonxia kernel and it doesn't heats too much while playing asphalt 8
Im on the newest LOS and the device gets really warm on the upper side when you charge it and use skype at the same time (thats probably because skype eats the battery really fast)
I have come from LG Flex 2 to Xiaomi Mi5. Believe me nobody knows what baking really is while using your phone! Cherry on the cake, my LG actually fried in its last days, as per the phone repair people. Now it just keeps restarting every now and then.. . Fully satisfied with the Xiaomi Mi5 temperatures while playing online games like 8ball and CoC. The LG used to heat up in our city temperature of around 30 degrees within 15-20 minutes. In AC it was better, around half an hour.
But Xiaomi Mi5 gives me a respectable 40-50 minute game before slightly heating up. And that heating too is completely tolerable, when compared to Flex2 !!
With almost 2 hours of gaming and other office work, I get 5h15m plus screen on time as well
Oh yes, I have found this out, the Motorola QC-3.0 charger which came with my sister's MotoG4 heats up my phone VERY MUCH!
And when compared, the Mi5 original QC-3.0 charger does not heat up the phone THAT much. I have seen voltage differences but the Moto charger has lower voltages and that should practically not heat up my phone a lot. I use the Moto charger at office and the Mi charger at home, both in AC rooms.
Heating to much... And when the phone heats up, it starts to slow down... (8.5.2 eu stable)

This is a big improvement I have seen over my Nexus 6P. The ole Snapdragon 810 would get pretty warm in my hands on heavy use. The new one feels cool at all times. This has also helped tremendously in the battery life department too.

Same. My 6p got warm too fast and throttled after 5 mibs of normal use. The Pixel 2 is just perfect, it gets a little bit warm in heavy usage like it should.
I play pubg constantly and I never feel worried about heat. Even while charging and playing it feels safe.
Two minute queries-
1. Is the top speaker about 20 percent-ish lower in volume than the bottom one?
2. Recording a video for about 9-10 mins got the temp of the battery to 40.7°C when the ambient temperature outside is 24 °C.
Although it has fallen down very quickly after that but is it normal?
Thanks.

1. https://9to5google.com/2017/10/23/t...bout-10-db-quieter-than-the-bottom-one-video/
2. 9-10 minutes of continuous video recording is a lot. I never record more than 1-1:30 minute segments. Anything longer gets boring or would get trimmed anyway. Even with multiple bursts in a row, it does get warm but I've never measured.

Really? Using gltools to reduce graphics? Why did you buy a $1000 phone then?
Sometimes a little heat is just perfectly fine.

You forgot a very important point, performance. This phone is capable of handling heavy games with medium to high graphical settings without overheating.

Battery lasts a couple of hours, 22 hours playing a game on minimum brightness is nothing but a pipe dream for this phone. 4 year old oneplus one battery performs better than this battery.
The 2K screen, while the best thing about the phone, is the real energy hog. If I need longer stand-alone battery life, I use ADB to drop the resolution to 1080p. I get about a 30%-40% boost that way.

That's interesting, what the hell did they make the screen out of, 2000 year technology. The battery is rubbish, I think it's the batteries quality, it's like you have Duracell and then you have £1 discount Kodak batteries where you get 20 in a pack this is the latter. What's the point in in having a 2K screen of you can't use it, do you know what I mean? I have to charge it up 3 times a day with moderate gaming, YouTube ect on low brightness. I could have get a better spec phone 6gm ram Snapdragon SoC with 1080p screen but the 2K blows all their screen out of the water.
3 Times a day?! maybe you should give it a factory reset. That shouldn´t be normal. Maybe the battery life is not the best in comparsion to other 4000mah phones ... but i get at least 2 days with a screen on time around 4-6hours before i have to charge the device. An thats @ Stock rom, the eragon rom should boost this even further.
I agree. If you're charging it 3 times a day, either your phone has an issue or your usage patterns aren't as moderate as you think they are.
average
I use my phones for radio/streaming in the car using android auto. I have to keep my s8 plugged in else the battery just gets eaten
