(Problem Resolved)
I need someone with a XT1540 2GB/16GB XT1540 to help me restore mine to working order
If you don't mind having Marshmallow 6.0 on your device until the official release, what I need is for you to do is install the OTA update.zip, fastboot boot twrp and make a backup for me, and upload it, so that I can restore the backup and get my phone working again. The reason I say boot is so that you can still keep your original recovery and not be stuck with twrp, also, to be able to possibly pull the recovery.img so that I can fastboot it and fully have it back to normal, tho I am happy with just having the phone boot normally.

Here you go: Fastboot stock firmware follow this tuturial and you will be OK! and you said that you have a marshmallow zip? Please send it to me.
If this isnt what you want explain further!
I'm under the impression that because my bootloader upgraded I can't fastboot the stock firmware and still receive OTA updates, because I risk bricking my device.
The last available firmware update has another update before the Marshmallow update, so it isn't the most newest
The one I need is Retail US (2GB) - XT1540_OSPREY_RETUS_2GB_5.1.1_LPI23.72-47.4_cid9

Dude... Marshmallow isnt out yet..
If I made the post, then I meant what I said, I have the zip file need

Hello, I would like to know if its possible to take the stock recovery.img from my current ROM which is German Stock 4.4.2 and back it up for later use.
I want to do this because i want to root my device and then return back to stock recovery. I have already tried something, btw my bootloader is unlocked.
I installed thr official german 4.3, sideloaded the official german 4.4.2 and used cwm and rooted but then i looked in both zips of the stock roms and there was recovery.img only in thr 4.3 one so after rooting i flashed recovery.img which screwed everything, because another small official ota update, only 1.9mb which was already on 4.4.2 with 4.3 recovery and the phone booted normally and wanted to update that small ota update and after 1 min the phone restarted but it wouldnt go to the recovery and install the update it wpuld reboot over and over again
My question is how can i back up the stock 4.4.2 recovery.img for later use, thanks in advance for amy helpful posts

Hi,
I think the easiest way would be to check your ROM version and download the complete firmware from somewhere like FileFactory and that package should include the stock recovery which can be easily flashed back after you are done with the root.
Hi, I have a xt1032, UL and rooted, stock rom and kernel, Xposed with TWRP. The ota just hit my phone this afternoon and I have been trying in vain for hours to update it because I need the bug fixes badly. I am trying to find the OTA.zip file....either that or the stock recovery.img file. Thank you in advance!

I flashed the stock recovery and also uninstalled xposed framework..still got an error message and update failed. I didn't delete any system apps but has some frozen thru TB. now defrosted and trying again. I'm on the T-mobile network (I thought it was cdma but I guess it's GSM) should my kernel be the174.44.1.falcon_umts.AWSRetail.en.us? because I noticed it no longer has the 'AWS' part..if anyone could offer some insight on that
So you didnt sucsess to install ota ? Why dont you flash stock rom maybe you have some errors in system and then update. My version is like u wrote (it was before update) xt1034 quote me if u done with flashing and get ota search on forum stock rom images im on phone cant find link right now .

No, no success for me yet- there are links up now in other posts for the xt1034 my friend. I think at one point I flashed the wrong firmware by mistake, cuz I definitely have a xt1032 and the version should show 174.44.1.falcon_umts.Retail.en.US but this pic has the AWS version for the xt1034 that is not right for the xt1032
Dude you dont know wich version u have remove back cover and see on battery then install US retail rom im post link in last reply.pm if something goes wrong im not at home right now .

Right guys firstly i would like to make a massive shoutout to @fl4m3y
Brilliant work on your efforts for the community!!
Without his guide found HERE i would never have been able to leave any 4.4.4 custom rom!
Thankyou friend.
Disclaimer
I am not 100% this will work for you. Use at YOUR OWN RISK.
I will not be held responsible for anyone saying, "omg, my phone had a chance of coming back to life, now your guide has killed it off"
Because that wasn't and isn't the case for me. It has worked 100% STOCK flash by FASTBOOT
95% of this is @fl4m3y credits all thanks go to this guy. Nor will @fl4m3y be blamed as he has stated in his thread. .Right i will tell you what i did.. everything i did, dont do anything i didnt do. or it probley wont work. same goes for skipping things out.
Firstly
I need you to follow this Guide.
Troubleshooting: (These are some errors i came across, managed to fix them these ways)
The CWM Backup won't push to /sdcard
This happened to me, i don't know why but i managed to fix this by going into 'Mounts and Storage and Mounting STORAGE'
it was unmounted for some reason. Double check this..
It wont start restoring i get MD5 sumcheck failed error.
You need to go into Advance settings in Backup and Restore and uncheck 'check md5sum' (Not sure what it was called just look for something to do with md5sum and make sure there isnt a x next to it)
I Get a Error Resoring /data or /system
go into Backup and Restore and select to do a Custom Restore. Now just as if you where fastboot flashing something, restore each of them speratly..
i started from the top. (Boot.img i think it was then selected to restore and them moved down the list)
now there should be 3 parts to all of them. i went through every single one just to make sure it went well.
so in system there was 3 diffrent files relating to system .. restore them all then move on..
Once you have followed this and your phone has rebooted Sucsessfully you need to download this Official 4.2.2 GPE Fastboot Firmware
Now this is a OFFICIALLY SIGNED FASTBOOT FIRMWARE.. i think thats why it has worked.
The Thread is HERE if you want to look where i found it
Now you need the fastboot files. If you dont have the here they are
I would download them anyways just to make sure its followed exactly how i did it.
I downloaded everything to my Desktop and extracted to my desktop. it makes it easy for me to organise.
Now put your phone into bootloader
Heres for the next part. Extract the Fastboot files into the folder with the Firmware files. There is a .bat file inside that autoflashes everything
Do not press it! We dont need all the files flashed!
Ok so i need you to go to the folder with the firmware in and: Press and hold Right Shift and right click on the file and select to open cmd window here.
Now Type: Fastboot Devices
this is just checking everything is working.
Copy each of these and paste them into your cmd window
fastboot flash motoboot motoboot.img
fastboot flash logo logo.bin
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk1
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk2
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk3
fastboot flash modem NON-HLOS.bin
fastboot erase modemst1
fastboot erase modemst2
fastboot erase cache
fastboot erase userdata
fastboot reboot
Your phone should Reboot with 100% STOCK GPE.
i am going to try fastboot flash over this a UK Retail Firmware and see what happens.. i will report back if we can now sucsefully flash firmwares other then this one.
@gd91
Confirmed working
Nop its not working for me...I am stuck at google logo...but my moto is xt1033 maybe that is why its not working? ;P
Oh, maybe does everything flash okay?
Sent from my Moto G using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Yeah everything flashed okay except those warnings that are allways there...restoring backup went well too thx to your guide on how to avoid those mount problems
Guys, can i use this guide to downgrade from GPE 4.4.4 to GPE 4.4.2 and then to stock 4.4.2 ?
No. You will have to wait for 4.4.4 stock partition. And boot loader. Its being pushed out now or soon.. Then you can flash over GPE to stock. This only putbstock GPE back on my phone

People keep saying this, but nobody explains the rationality behind it.
2 things:
1) How does having the 4.4.4 GPE files help in any way with downgrading? If I downgrade, I'd want to downgrade all components, including the bootloader, no? Are you thinking that it is impossible to downgrade the GPT and bootloader after they have been upgraded, even if your bootloader is unlocked, so you would flash the 4.4.4 versions of those but the system partition and modem/baseband from whatever version you want to downgrade to?
2) Even if what you are saying is true, that you would need the 4.4.4 GPT and bootloader in order to perform a successful downgrade to an earlier version, the fact is that the gpt and motoboot files are already available today, extractable from the OTA zip that has been making the rounds. They have already been extracted by others and posted elsewhere. So what more do you need/want out of the 4.4.4 fastboot-flashable release?
-- Nathan
You have miss understood.. We can downgrade to 4.4.2 GPE ( i don't think It was shipped with Jelly Bean) its a dodle
Although!
People who dont want to be on GPE 4.4.2 or 4.4.3 or 4.4.4, and want to go back to the Motorola Stock 4.4.2 will have to wait for the 4.4.4 Stock Motorola update to come to their region ATM it is only hitting certain areas for the time being..

The process will go like this..
Flash GPE 4.4.4 then flash over that the morotorola stock 4.4.4

Ah, okay, yes, I guess I did partially misunderstand. But I have been seeing people talk about the problems they have been having downgrading even to 4.4.2 GPE from 4.4.4 GPE. I see that people have stumbled across various convoluted workarounds, but for some reason it is not just as easy as reflashing all of the necessary files while in fastboot. I suspect that the fact that this doesn't work even when trying to go back to 4.4.2 GPE is related to the problems people are having when trying to return to 4.4.2 Motorola.

Well, then I still don't understand. If you are running 4.4.4 GPE, why do you have to first flash to 4.4.4 Motorola before downgrading to 4.4.2 Motorola? If you can't go directly to 4.4.2 Motorola from 4.4.4 GPE, what makes you think that having access to 4.4.4 Motorola would make this procedure work? I guess that's the part that is missing for me. Nobody is explaining why they believe that having access to 4.4.4 Motorola will assist in a downgrade to older versions of stock Motorola.

...and then flash 4.4.2 stock Motorola over 4.4.4? Why will that work if flashing directly from 4.4.4 GPE wouldn't?

GPE and Motorola have totally different file systems.. I dunno.. Its all confusing I haven't really been told myself but just buy reading what others have said and what has worked for me, I cannot flash 4.4.2 over my GPE 4.4.2 that has been brick recovered I need the 4.4.4 boot and gpt.. I think when you convert to 4.4.4 there are files and partitions you cannot flash over unless you have the whole thing. I think the big issue isnt partitions it's the bootloader, I cannot flash any other but 4.4.4 I don't know why eve after flashing 4.4.4 gpt.bin

As we All know we are going to get Android 5.0 Lollipop OTA in coming days and for OTA stock recovery is necessary.
Downloading whole firmware just for stock recovery is not worthy that's why I'm sharing stock recovery of Asian variant(XT1033 including India).
LINK:-
Stock recovery(Here)
.
Waiting so anxiously for Lollipop
BUT, flashing the ENTIRE firmware to OTA your device is a MUST.
OTA will fail if your device was rooted then unrooted because system partition was modified by root.. So, for the update to succesfully work, you have to flash entire firmware (including stock recovery), like it or not, to have an untouched system partition.
Flashing only stock recovery again is not enough, it will make no difference, OTA will fail.
So, this thread is kinda useless if you think about it...

Hi,
the title says it all:
How can I apply the 5.0 OTA update on a rooted, unlocked Moto G XT1032 with CWM recovery?
I don't care about root anymore and I have used SuperSU to unroot the phone.
But in order to apply the update I need to install the stock recovery, otherwise the device will get stuck in a bootloop.
How do I do this? I have tried using MotoToolAIO and its "Flash Stock Recovery KitKat" button but get a
Code:
hab check failed for recovery
message every time I try.
Could you guys please tell me how to get the stock recovery installed on this phone? As I said I don't care about losing root and I don't mind relocking the phone if necessary. I would really appreciate any pointers you can give me. Possibly without losing my data & apps. Thank you.
This page apparently is supposed to contain all those stock files but it is broken: http://sbf.droid-developers.org/phone.php?device=14
This manual seems to be helpful for similar cases, it did not help me, though: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2542219
Download the stock 4.4.4 ROM for your phone, extract the recovery.img file, and flash it using fastboot commands.
You also need to be unrooted with the stock Motorola apps.

If you think that solves the proble, well...yes. But where do I find that file? As I indicated the only possible source seems to be unavailable currently. I can't find any other.
Does anyone here have an XT1032 DE singleSIM recovery image lying around?
As I am currently living in South Africa and internet is not reall stable it would be amazing if someone could offer just the recovery file instead of the whole 500-600MB dump.
I have a Canadian xt1032 running stock Telus 4.4.4 firmware. Not sure if that recovery would work but I could find it if you want to try it.
Don't forget to unroot too.
I unrooted too using SuperSU and managed to restore the stock recovery using MotoTool (find it on XDA). These are the basic requirements for installing an OTA. But after the OTA is downloaded and I try to install it, the process starts and in about 10 seconds it displays "Error" and boots to 4.4.4 again. Any recommendations?
^^did you remove any of the stock Motorola apps?
No, and Motorola Update Services is updated to the last version.

I doubt it - and fear what might happen if it goes wrong, to be honest. But thanks a lot for the offer. I was able to locate a Retail package for the DE version and will try to download the whole beast, hoping that the connection is stable for these 3 hours.
Even though nobody answered me, I found out what's going on. Lollipop OTAs cannot be installed on modified devices.
You could try out some custom ROM if you are unable to get the official 4.4.4. Carbon and CM11 are some customs ROMs I know of.
There are great unofficial ROMs on the moto g xda forum too!! Don't forget to have a look.

You need to have factory firmware and recovery installed in order to update via OTA.
