Calls On CM based Mods Are Always Unknown (Mongolia) - Sprint Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am a huge fan of the CM mods and all its variants and I do not want to switch to another ROM. However, only on the CM mods to all of my incoming and outgoing calls show up as unknown. There is also an exclamation mark in the symbol that shows my service in the top right.
I live in Mongolia and all the calls are 8 digits long. If I add the country code (+976) it works fine. However, when people call me, it still shows as unknown.
I have searched everywhere, but I am not sure what to do. This is really a deal breaker, so please help me out.
Thank you

Can any rom developer fix the next FROYO bug? (Google bug number:11346)

This bug occurs on all Froyo roms (I tested it on:CM6, geo411m, evil, enomther, modaco and Google stock rom)
When I'm in a area with 0 signal (It means I cannot do any call) the signal status bar displays 2 or 3 levels, incorrectly.
I checked it on about 6 existing Froyo roms, on my Nexus One device and this bug occurs on all roms, includes the google official stock rom.
Please see the attched screenshot.
We tested it on some different nexus devices and it occurs on all these devices. My device version is Nexus One version: 110 (AT&T version).
Here is the screenshot of the bug:
******* (I cannot add the link because my account is new :/ )
I opened a new bug about it for Google, but can any developer fix it?
Here is the bug I opened for Google:
***** (I cannot add the link because my account is new :/ )
bug number:11346
Can you(the members of the forum also mark the bug with star, in order to promote the priority of the bug?
It's absolutely impossible to work with an OS that displays a wrong signal status. You never know if you really have signal or not :/
I backed to 2.1 because this bug.
Thanks to all.
Robert
I think this is more radio then ROM related, and I don't have this problem on my Nexus one. No signal=0 bars.
But you could try to flash the so called Korean radio(see Nexus android development forum ), to see if that changes anything.
Hello Robert
That is normal even in old phones. It is not a bug!!!
That signal strengh is real and correct.
The explanation is simple, when your SIM card can not reach to any of the base stations (antennas) of your provider, we generally say that you lost the signal and you can not make any calls. BUT for emergency purposes, your phone connects to the strongest available antenna of other providers (again, only when you can not reach the ones from your provider) to allow you to make emergency calls. That is why (at least in europe) when we lose the signal of our phones, usually in 95% of the cases it will still say "Only emergency calls 112 allowed".
So the signal bars you get are in reallity the signal bars of the antenna you are connected to make emergency calls. So no bug and actually it is useful, it would make no good if you try to disable that.
You will not get any bars for the signal when you are not even able to make emergency calls.

Hi Bulltza,
Thank you very much for this detailed answer...I checked it and you right...
I still think this is not a good feature because when I am in a area with no signal and I see that there is some levels in the status bar, it confuse me and I don't know that I cannot get incomming calls.
anyway thank you for the answer.
YoMark, thank you too for your help
Its not really a bug man They only should add a icon or a notification for Emergency Calls Only. If u dont want this feature u are veryr stupid Emergency Calls! We need them

What's the relation to be stupid or not?!
It seems that you are the stupid here that didn't understand what I mean and call me stupid!!!!!
Did I write anywhere that I don't want the Emergency Call?!?! I wrote that it is impossible to work with an OS where you see that you "have signal" but in actual you don't know that you cannot get incomming calls.
Learn to understand and give respect to your colleagues instead calling them stupid and other!

[Q] What do the numbers above an text message mean?

I'm new to this messaging arena, so my question may have an obvious answer. I get some messages at times, that I have no idea who they are from. They have no name associated to them, but have some number listed above them, that is almost long enough, to be a phone number, but not quite. Hows do you tell, just who is texting you?
Yesterday, I got a text, saying my address had been updated, to one in Los Angeles. I looked at, and figured it was some idiot, who sent it to the wrong person. I have not been to LA in about 30 years, and live where I always have, some 2,000 miles from there. So, it's obviously a bad text. But, how do you determine, just who it is, that has sent you a text, if they don't identify themselves? And just what do the set of numbers associated about the text, mean?
As I said, the answer may be an obvious one, but I don't know it. Can someone please explain this to me? Thanks.
are the numbers 5 digits?
Sometimes you'll get a text from your carrier (sprint, verizon, etc) that will match the description your getting. I've also seen spam texts come to my phone as well. With text messages, if its coming from another phone, it will almost always include the area code so the number you see will be 10 digits.
Maybe spam? it's bad to post your number online i learned my lesson with emails.
The numbers I speak of, are either 8 or 9, not the 10 needed for a phone number. AT&T unfortunately is who I was stupid to choose instead on Verizon. Where I live, Verizon has 3G that works, but AT&T only has 2G, which takes 4 or 5 minutes, to connect to, using EDGE. IF YOU CAN EVEN CONNECT. Paying to have your own WIFI, is the only way I can use my Captivate, on the web. But with a couple of text messages from AT&T, they identify themselves. The text message I asked about, was saying my address was now switched to Los Angeles. It gives a zip, but no name or clue, on who it is. I may have got out of whack by it, but I texted them back, and saud THANKS. BUT WHO THE HELL ARE YOU? No response back, but it may very well be a fishing attempt, to see if anyone answered back. I noticed when I turned my Captivate on last night, there was an odd looking icon in the tool bar at the top of the phone. I open the screen to see what it was, and it was an offer to MEET SEXY WOMEN AROUND WHERE I LIVE. Never had that one before, and it may be tied in to my getting, and texting back, that change of address text. But the numbers I speak of, are at the very top of the message, and like I said, those I don't understand, are 8 or 9, not 10, so it can't be phone numbers. But, what are they?
Okay. I learned from an AT&T Techster, that the numbers associated with SMS TEXT, are called SHORT CODE, for 4 to 6 numbers, and LONG CODE, for more numbers. This id's the textster, in much the same way, that your IP address, ID's you, while on line. I gave him the 9 digit number, that was associated with my spam text, but he was unable to ID just who, or what, had texted the spam to me. He said that AT&T had a software program, that allowed them to search for the id's of texting spammers, but this was a paid for version. He said he was sure there was personal versions, some free, that people who own a cell phone, can use to try and id those texting them. He was unable, to give me names of software, and so far, I haven't found personal software, either for my computer, or my Captivate. I realized, that maybe for the Captivate, someone in this forum, would have a suggestion. It's like the CALLER ID, of landline phones, and might be able to id, just who is trashing, or spamming you. Any ideas, on SHORT or LONG CODE software one could install?

[Q] Fake and undefinied call?

Hi,
yesterday I got a call, from undefinied number... that is very interesting - because at services from my provider I have blocked "calls from undefinied number", and in the billing list - there is no this call, also a man in the provider help line says that there is no this call. My phone says - call exist (1 notification, missed call). I don't have any "fake call" applications installed. Can u help my find it out? I dont know what I have to do, or is my phone secure...
Man on help line also says, that some phones have function - combination of keys, or just function from menu - that generates fake call, and then number is undefinied, because in reallity - noone calling. HTC Sensation have it? May I generate it accidentaly?
Also i can say that I've not hear any ring, or wibrations, but maybe I've been in another room, but this is quiet impossible.
Plase help - I'm little bit afraid.
And sorry for my english - I hope u understand
I had something similar to me happen the otherday, Had a call form an unkown number, picked it up and it went down straight away, seemed like some kind of software bug tbh, it happend as soon as my reception come back from no signal

[Q] Caller ID/ Recent Calls Display

Hello Everyone,
I am Rooted and unlocked running the latest CM10.1 nightly.
Not sure if this is the right section, if not please direct me to the appropriate place. Yes I've searched, maybe my googling skills suck today.
Lets start from the top. My Wife has a Windows 8 phone, the only thing I find that it does, that my android does not is caller ID functionality. If she calls Lowes home improvement, It displays it in the call log as Lowes Home Improvement instead of the number. She does not have this number saved in her contacts. It does this with any number she pulls from the web.
Its nice because in the recent call list it shows the business and not just some number.
Is there an App or a setting to do this?
Thanks

[Q] Samsung S5 ROM Doubt...

First of all I can't post in development forum, so I am posting here.
I am using Samsung S5 ROM for past one month and my network operator is Air tel.The problem is that there is no network when I am in my class. But network is available outside my class. So,when in class if I get a missed call,I don't get any call. But after I get into network area, since I am using air tel I get a missed call alert message. After this alert,I get a missed call. (This missed call shows time at which I receive the message). This missed call tricks me into thinking that the call is at the present time, but no one is calling me.
I don't know whether this is due to my Network Operator or the ROM.
Thanks.(Move this post into development section,if possible).

First of all ur query will not come in development section, its correct here. And its ur operator problem. Rom has nothing to do with it. Airtel signal strength may be low or nil when u r in class. Thats the reason
