Adding Multiple Wi-Fi Networks to Android Device - Android General

Hello all! First off, this is my first day as a new member on this forum, which I should've done long ago honestly! This forum has helped me a lot and given me insight on many problems I've faced as I delve further into Android development. With any luck, one day I can return the favor to other inspiring developers as well!
Introductions aside, I am helping develop an app for the company I work for which requires a connection to many different devices which all broadcast a hidden Wi-Fi network. The way I see it, the easiest solution is to add the networks manually through the Wi-Fi settings on Android devices, however it is long and tedious and lends to human error (I have to manually copy over SSIDs and long PSK strings). I have also come to understand that each Android device has a "wpa_supplicant.conf" file, containing all the saved networks for that device.
I am working with an array of different phones, all running some version of Android, and I need a way to add networks en masse instead of one-by-one. Is there any way that I can:
1.) set-up a "wpa_supplicant.conf" file with all the preexisting networks and PSKs,
2.) gain temporary root access to edit the ".conf" file already present (or even bypass the need for root access), and then
3.) replace each ".conf" file for that device with the updated version.
This is all assuming that the process is relatively the same per each device, which I have also come to understand is not always the case. If this cannot be done, any insight into an alternative solution would also be much appreciated! Once again, I am just trying to avoid mulling through manual setup and inevitably entering something in wrong (I've got to be somewhat dyslexic). Kudos!

Want app to auto set forwarding...

I honestly didn't know if this should be in Developing Forum, or Apps forum. I presume apps forum is for existing apps.
I want to be able to have my phone (Captivate) forward automatically based on where I am at. I had accomplished that on my old WinMo phone two different ways:
1.) Originally I got Mort Script (scripting tool for WinMO), and wrote a script based on time to auto forward the phone. I needed to find the correct app to call to do the forwarding (I'm on AT&T, and it is done in their network, as opposed to just dialing a number and enter the forwarding number). Found that with the help of another great forum on XDA.
2.) Then I learned of Phone Alarm which could do that based on cell tower, wifi, GPS, etc. Loved it.
I am told by the authors of Locale that it cannot be done becaue of inbuilt security on Android. This leaves me thinking the only way I may accomplish this is with a script.
Anybody know of a way to accomplish this? Or may be writing an app to do it?
I am installing Setting Profiles now, but I'm sure it doesn't have that capability build in either. (Well, pretty sure. I'll explore).
Check here: this might be to your needs.

Thanks. I'll check it out, and post back what I find.
TASKER... http://tasker.dinglisch.net/index.html
I have been using it a few days now and the possibilities are limitless. There is a wiki that has recently started growing with tutorials and profiles.
I have used to to perform several actions that items from the market require a purchase to do.
We're referencing the same thing
I have downloaded it, and it looks great. I"m not sure it will do the forwarding I want, but a nice tool anyway. I had downloaded Setting Profiles just before starting this thread, but it isn't near as strong as Tasker.
I'll have to search for the Wiki.

[Q]Change(spoof) WiFi(wireless) MAC address. Done lots of research! Impossible maybe?

Hey, folks!
I wanna learn how to change my WiFi MACaddress (yes, I can solve things in other way, but we are here to learn ) in Android v4.1.2. My ROM is CyanoGenMod 10 v6 based, updated 01/11/2012.
I have searched lots of threads and forums. I have tested many methods (about 10-20 systems), most of them for another Android devices and/or versions (Samsung, Nexus... etc):
- Editing/creating nvram.txt file (in several paths).
- ifconfig methods.
- ip link methods.
- Specific programs.
- Another files, like "mac_address".
None of them do work . The farther y did reach is the "ip link" way, that seems to have changed my MAC address... but my Transformer does not get IP .
Any ideas will be very welcome, friends, and I will edit this first post resuming the method or publish a How-To thread to help some (many) people hazy with this matter.
I have been searching for a method to spoof the MAC on my GNex as well. I have not been successful either. It really bites because the wifi at my employer uses MAC filtering.
Not sure how well this will work, but you can access the MAC Address of the TF101 by navigating here
/sys/class/net/wlan0/address
Open "address" as a text file and you`ll see your MAC Address,
Not sure the implications of changing it manually, but so long as you save the old address I don't think it will hurt to try changing it
You`ll need to be rooted and use a root file explorer
unable to save the file after editing...

[Q] Danger Sidekick Hiptop Dev-Key Questions

Hello XDA,
I have some questions about the sidekick Development Keys. I actually used to have one of my own in 2008. Here is what I am looking for.
An actual copy of a dev-key file.
The HTCONSOLE command for uploading a dev-key file to the phone.
I am looking for these things because I am interested in reversing the Dev-Key algorithm. I am planning on using JTAG to dump the firmware and do an investigation. These things all lead up to restoring internet capabilities to the phone. As we know, the phone is a bit crippled because of hard-coded operations to use Danger's servers for networking. But, there is internet access, just need to find a way to circumvent Danger's servers. I thought that getting a dev-key so that I could upload my own programs would be a good first step. However, since I cannot get another from Danger, I figured reversing would be the next best step. However, without the dev-key file format and HTCONSOLE command syntax for uploading the key. I am in the dark.
Thanks in advance

Hi!
I had the same problem, is at least 3 years that I try to bring back into operation a old Sidekick2 found in the trash.
I was able to operator-unlock it with a key combination (here in Italy sidekick mobile phones have never been marketed and therefore are virtually unknown!).
Then I search SDK everywhere, for years, all in vain (all danger's site are dead, and archive.org is unuseful)
BUT Today (literally) I found this site: The Holy Grail (w w w .cs.umb.edu / ~bazz / learn /sidekick2/ )! I'm very excited! :victory:
Now I need my devkey but is obvious impossible to obtain it, so I was thinking to automate a brute force process (autoit? a small c++ program? who know..) to get it, but if you can obtain an algoritm via reverse engineering is better.
Another alternative would be try to contact former employees of Danger Inc, but I would not know how to do because english isn't my native language.
so please KEPP US UPDATED! :fingers-crossed:

Win 10

Hi Forum.
Not to be paranoid ,windows 10 installs a easy modem app.
Several alerts about modem
Settings on many wifi servers offer to auto configure password and modem settings on friends, phones, tabs, laptop. While in or around be sure to disable this on win 10 for your location.
This is a huge risk for security hacking. Via unknown modem activity in or around your home.
Another real concern is this that King Root apk numerous versions may be
A clandecent malware, benign at first but has shown cookie like uploads after while. Can you imagine
A phone auto connecting to
A wifi host and uploads malware hidden in the aplication software. Let's
Watch this king root mod for activity on our phones before they (hack every pc) in the us. Remember when you install software it ask if your sure..
I hope someone more pc savy. Responds to this , every where we use wifi our phone could install a or upload cookie?
Doug?????
Many users have seen modem activity and shortcuts to apps have new Locations added to programs.
Have very little idea about Windows 10. But very much interested to learn about new things.

Reading "register" information from my ZTE MF90+

Hi Folks, i read quite a bit in the XDA-dev forums in the last few years, but now it's time to change the status "from passive to active". :silly:
- I have a "ZTE MF90+" (a nifty little mobile 4G WiFi hotspot with battery). The Chipset should be based on a Qualcomm MDM9215.
- I bought it about 3 years ago and it is SIM-Locked (aka Provider-Locked iirc).
- I fiddled around a bit with it and am able to ADB into it (from my Ubuntu 18.04 machine and from my Raspberry Pi, too - e.g. to activate RNDIS/CDC mode for USB tethering)
- I have an unlock code, that should work "to tear down this SIM-Lock wall" without any hassle.
So far, so good ... but my interests are still not satisfied; i want to know what's up with the internals of this modem, when i enter the unlock code. I simply want to observe and understand what's going on under the hood.
To quote Ylvis from their song Stonehenge: "And i know i should be happy, but instead, there's question, i can't get out of my head!"
Maybe a year ago i did some internet research, where i found several clues that the "SIM-Lock" information might be stored inside some Section of a NV storage https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1954029.
On some other russian hacker forum (that i can't find right now, unfortunately) according to google translate one of them seemed to be able to change one NV entry there to get rid of the Sim-Lock. The tabs are still open on my other Ubuntu 14.04 Laptop 250km away from here, so it might take some time to provide the "russian hacker forum link" here for further reference. I haven't tried it out back then as i heavily relied on this mobile hotspot back then and could neither afford to brick it nor had the time to fiddle around further.
What i remember was also this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1804117, but this thread is from 2012 and e.g. the download link for the NV-items_reader_writer.rar don't work anymore, so i haven't tried it yet to get this program running.
So now i need your help:
-> What tools can i use (on my Ubuntu Linux machine, if necessary via WINE) to read out a "full image" of the (Android) system to flash back later (if necessary) and what tool can i use to read (and modify if necessary one day) the NV items to compare them "before and after" i unlocked it?
Any hints where to start and in which direction i could head from there? :cyclops:
Please help me to grow and rise :highfive:
