Photos from external sd disappeared - Onetouch Idol 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a strange problem. I have rooted 6045Y with cm-12.1. I would like to save my photos into external sd. I have changed camera storage into external sd.
When I take a photo, it makes folder /storage/sd1/DCIM/Camera and saves photo there. So far, so good.. but when I after a while check the folder, everything inside DCIM is disappeared?!?

I can however save files into external sd. Yes, I can but they disappear, if they are in folder. I put some .mp3 files into root of my card and those didn't disappear. However, I can't listen them, because they misses.

Use Schaps advanced configuration tool and change the default save location to your SD card. You can also do this in the camera options to save to memory card. You could also use Diamond Tweak to do this.

Gallery not reading internal memory!!

It continues to say scanning sd card. When I take pics they show up in the gallery app. All my other folders like it use to don't. I formated same problem.

[Q] DCIM folder empty

My DCIM folder weirdly became empty for some reason after I plugged my phone into my computer to download some photos.
I took some 20 or 30 pictures today and thought I had them in my DCIM folder. As I reached home and tried to copy them to my computer, I found that the DCIM folder was completely empty. I tried to search my gallery on my phone but it couldn't find any photos that were camera taken either. I took 1 or 2 photos to see if it stores them and it does. Right in the DCIM folder.
Before this happened, I know I checked my gallery for camera taken pictures yesterday and they were there. I am almost positive that it happened sometime between me starting to take photos today and the time I arrived home and plugged it in.
I am wondering what might cause such a thing to happen. None of my other data on either the phone storage or the SD card is missing from what I can notice, just the DCIM folders are empty. My phone is rooted and changed some system apps, deleted some, added some. I am wondering if this could be something related to memory management of the Camera app, which is the default one.
I think, but I am not completely sure, that as I was taking the photos I could notice the remaining photos count dropping and when I reached home, even though the DCIM folders were empty, the number didn't rise back.
What's even weirder is that I used a data recovery tool from the web and it did indeed find some deleted files on both my sd card and my phone storage but not one single picture of the ones I took.
Any ideas? Has this ever happened to you? Any possible solutions, maybe?
Thanks,
Fred
Update
I found the pictures. I am not sure if they're all of them but I believe so. They were in my LOST.DIR folder, for some reason.
Can you guys think of an explanation for which all of my DCIM contents got moved to LOST.DIR? Also the extensions on all of them was lost. They were files without extensions, like text files in Linux. I had to run a for command in shell to rename them all.

Explanation: You did not safe unmount the storage from your computer, thats why the files were declared as "lost/broken" and moved to LOST.DIR ....
you're right. I totally did not do that. thanks

Hey I've been having some problems with my DCIM folder too. yesterday I connected my Note 3 neo to my PC(running elementary OS) and it showed that DCIM folder was empty, but since it took up almost all of the device storage, I moved that empty folder to my PC and boom! 10 GB freed from my device:good:. But DCIM still empty. And now I can't get those photos and videos back even after moving them back to device.
Can anyone explain what just happened with me and how to fix this?

Google Photos not working at all in my S8 plus

Hi All,
All of a sudden google photos has stopped working and i can never get it work , i have searched around the net and tried almost all of the solutions, still no go, it wont fetch photos from photos.google.com nor it would back up photos, it gets stuck in "getting photos", sometime it gets past but does not download the photos from cloud.
I tried google photos in my old note 4 and it works great there, so i added google photos in my secure folder of s8 plus and to my surprise it works perfectly in secure folder but from secure folder it is not able to backup photos , i gave up and did a full reset of my phone and unfortunately even after a full reset , still its not working .. WTF!!!!!
i am not sure what is going on, can someone help please
If your pictures are in the sd card DCIM folder move them to internal DCIM folder and try un-mounting the sd card and see if this works. I have to un-mount sd-card everytime I want to backup, I've notified Google of this but they don't seem to care.
Thanks but my pics are only in Internal memory DCIM folder.

It doesn't matter, un-mount your sd card to see if Google Photos starts to find your photos. It will also backup if you have new photos. It happened to me and even after a reset it would get stuck on getting photos.
Wow this definitely worked , but what is the problem though, can i not have the SD card mounted for google photos to work?
Anyone have any workaround for the SD Card issue

****** is my sd_card a rat ??? ******

Hello World, I have a question, maybe a stupid one, but here we go
Example: I buy a fresh, new android phone. First thing I do is insert an SD card that is full with photos. I open the gallery app and click on 8 photos from the SD card and look at them fullscreen. Now I remove the SD card from the phone. Question: Did these 8 photos (or any other non-clicked photos) in any way leave a trace in the internal storage of the phone, in the form of full copy, temporary copy, thumbnails...... (so in theory, this trace can be recovered with the proper recovery technique).
What do you think? Any answers are appreciated,
Thank you in advance, Leo.
Whenever you use a gallery app in android to view photos or video from any medium(sd card or Internal storage or Usb otg),
A thumbnail file(image) is created fir every browsed image file, which is smaller in size also.
Which helps us browse the image faster without loading it.
Now since every android app stores all temporary file in Internal storage.
Therefor these thumbnails are also stored in Internal Storage.
Most of the thumbnail files are stored in "DCIM/. thumbnail" location.

I have read this article and it claims that:
Thumbnail files are stored in DCIM folder:
/storage/emmc/DCIM/.thumbnails (if only phone memory is used)
/storage/sdcard0/DCIM/.thumbnails (if there is an SD card in the phone)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have a Galaxy S4 and S5 with an SD card. When I take a photo with the camera app, the photos are stored directly on the SD card (so the DCIM folder in my internal storage is empty). In the DCIM folder on my SD card there are currently 20 photos. When I use the Solid Explorer Classic app I am not able to see the DCIM/.thumbnails folder on the SD card, but I can see it on the internal storage.
The DCIM/.thumbnails folder on the internal storage does not have any thumbnails of the 20 photos from the SD card (but there are other thumbnails for example from viber app...).
So my question is: Where are these thumbnails of the 20 photos from the SD card located? (do they even exist?)
Thank you and all the best,
Leo
No
No one can recover the original quality of those 8 pictures but the phone must save their thumbnails but these thumbs will have very low quality graphics.
Thank you for your replies.
Does anybody else have any extra thoughts??
Anything?
Maybe?

The folder you are talking about is typically a hidden folder. Does Solid Explorer have an option/setting that allows viewing hidden files and folders?

Yes it is true, this is a hidden folder. Solid Explorer has the option/setting to view hidden files and folders.
I have enabled this option (from the start) and I am not able to see the DCIM/.thumbnails folder on the SD card, but I can see it on the internal storage.

Just to be sure I understand you correctly, you mean it doesn't show the DCIM/.thumbnails folder when viewing external storage from within Solid Explorer but it shows when viewing internal?
Also, do you mean you can't see the folder itself or you can't see what is actually inside the folder?
