New hear, need some help with Folder Mount, am i in the right place? - General Questions and Answers

Hello,
i was hoping someone might be able to help me.
i have just installed and started using FolderMount. I have paired up the games i wanted to move and then pined them. The internal and SD card are both showing that the same ammount of data is in the internal and external OBB files. I used the partition checker and it says the same, i also hooked up to my pc to check and the internal storage still has all the data in.
in the app analyser it only only shows a small ammout of data for each app
Am i supposed to delete the contents of the internal game folder?
Thanks a lot

How do I download addition game data to the external SD card?

Like the title says I'm attempting to install games and additional game data to the external SD card(32 gig) as my devices storage is pretty low.
Can this be done?

Depends on the application. If developer gave such possibility, then you can (if it doesn't install automatically on SD, then you will be able to move it). You should look in settings/applications - look for application, which you want to move and you will see such option, if it was implemented.
apps making it
If I move the app it only seems to move the 5mb part and not all the additional data.
And for some reason I can't move anything to my external, it moves stuff into the tablets 'sd card' which is tiny,
Just open the game and it does it automatically
you can ask someone else to download it and then copy game contents from SD to yours SD

No idea where the additional data is stored >: thanks anyways.
Wish my tablet was smart enough to copy data to the external once it runs out of space..
If your phone is rooted, you could transfer to sd card using titanium backup?

root the phone to easier work

Not enough memory, delete some item? ?

So my sister has her phone when she does anything this message comes up she getting very pissed off any way on solving this ? she has space and she has a sd card ... whats the deal.

The deal is that we only have 2GB of internal storage, which is where the camera defaults to. This can be filled very easy if one likes to take lots of pictures. There are a lot of ways around this, but the easiest for a non techie is to download a 3rd party camera app and set the storage to the external card. You could also swap mount points or try to symlink it as well.

I have a hard time understanding this, too. Settings>Storage tells me that I have only about 60 MB free in "USB Storage." It also tells me that I have 93 MB of "Pictures, Videos" there. The trouble is, I have no pictures or videos in USB storage. It's all on the external SD card. The camera saves to the external SD card, and all my music, photos, and videos are there, not in internal storage. It even tells me I have 3.4 GB of "Miscellaneous files" in USB storage, which is impossible. That 3.4 GB is actually what's on the external SD at the moment. It tells me that over 1 GB of apps are stored there, even though the apps actually there come to far less---maybe there's app data that's adding to the total.
The only time it becomes a problem is when I run NewsRob, which invariably tells me it doesn't have enough memory to work.

For pics and such, use Google drive, drop box or sky drive. Mine is set to upload over WiFi only. After my pics are up, I delete them from gallery. Also, make sure all music is on external sd . Then go to settings/storage erase SD card. This should clean up any uneccesary files or clutter. Last, move all possible apps to SD and clear all caches. FYI , if on any cm 10 variants don't clear the caches to fast or the phone will freeze for 20-40 secs. That is all

Well, I made an interesting discovery last night. I found that, even though I had set the PodKicker app to store podcasts on the external SD card, it had somehow reverted to internal USB memory, and had dumped a bunch of large files in there.
I also found that my Kindle app had deposited a bunch of files in internal USB memory. There's no way to tell Kindle to put them on the external card, but I supposedly only had a few books residing there. An examination of the kindle cache, however, disclosed almost two hundred, taking up a big chunk of memory. I deleted the whole directory, started Kindle, and let it re-download the few that I need. I think somewhere along the line I had to re-register the Kindle app, and it just left a bunch of old files there that it couldn't use anymore.
Between these two purges I freed up about 150 MB of internal USB storage.
150mb isn't much and will be eaten quickly.
a lot of apps install to the internal but load a bunch more on the external.
Camera ICS + is a good camera replacement that can save directly to the external SD.
Also, run ES File Explorer and use it's SD card analysis to see what is taking up space. I know that if you have your google photos synced, even just the thumbnails database file will be up to 1gb.
Move any Titanium or CWM backups to the external SD, but make sure you remember where they are when you go around deleting things.
I also found a trash can folder that was huge so I'm pretty sure that the internal SD card isn't fully freeing up memory when you delete things.
Also go to your App Manager and see which things are taking up a lot of space. I know that Google+, Gmail, Chrome, Facebook, Grooveshark and a few others take up a lot of space.

[Q] Suddenly moving apps to SD card?

I've never moved any apps to my SD card and strictly use it for files I've put there myself: music, photos, videos, backups. Today, I updated a few apps, after being notified from the Play Store and, once finished updating, I saw notifications that two of the apps are being moved to the SD card.
Anyone experience this? Might I have inadvertently checked a box somewhere? (I don't typically go around checking random boxes and usually know what I'm doing, but you never know.) Also, there's plenty of space left internally.
Thanks in advance. -Lori

A couple of games... Highway Rider and something else I can't remember right now. And I don't understand your second question. Check my ExtSD to confirm IT is internal storage? I don't understand.

On the device there is a /sdcard and a /ex_sdcard
The sdcard is built in storage where all the hings are stored .The external sd card is the card you can add in the sd card slot. So in thinking the game is installing into the internal card sd card .
Use a file explorer like the my files app and look for a game folder .I think that app calls sd card my files1 and ex sdcard my files 2
Hope this helps you understand a bit better
Erica
Thanks. I understand what the SD Card and External SD card are. I just didn't understand what you were asking me. But yes, I'll check the external SD card for those files. I'd just never received that message ever, since I bought this thing in August.

Sd card Q&A

Never owned a phone that came with microsd and this new Sony phone intrigues me. Biggest bummer about this phone is that it only comes with 16 GB internal storage. I don't know how this work since the kit-kat upgrade came out but my question is that say I'm a heavy Whatsapp user and and have lots of photos and convos saved onto my phone so can that automatically transfer to my sdcard? With this little memory im scared I might run out of room with all my other apps as well. Btw i'm not a guy that roots my phone so that would be out of the question unless that was the only last option to make this work. Hope to get some detailed feedback from you guys. :fingers-crossed::laugh:
I don't think you would need to root the Z3 to do what you want. I haven't had an expandable memory slot since my old HD2. Nexus 4 for the last few years, working with limited memory is something I wish to finally again leave behind.
I don't know how it works on the Z3, but with KitKat this is the gist:
Apps can write to the sdcard, but only to their "approved" folders. E.g. After 4.3 or so we got an /Android/data/ folder inside the root of our sdcards. Inside that are app package names. So if a developer calls getExternalFilesDirs() it will list an array, one being the internal Android/data folder and the other being the SDcard Android/data folder. However, no change is needed on the app developer if they let you browse directories (you can just point the save location to the proper data folder package name). So, for example, I use FX File Explorer and move files to /extSdCard/Android/data/nextapp.fx/files from my internal memory on my S4.
Currently the only negative are games like Baldur's Gate. They only install to the internal memory and at 2.3GB can not be moved to the sdcard. If you root you might be able to swap the directories, but I haven't tried as I prefer to not root. But as it stands, that 2.3GB would go against the 16GB internal storage.

Yea Iike the what's app itself is only cpl MB and I don't mind that on my internal but within what's app I have 3GB worth of photos videos from my group chats that I like to keep so I need to know if that can automatically be saved to sdcard or I have to find a different phone.

Where is WhatsApp saving the pictures? To tell you the truth, no phone post 4.4.4 without rooting will do what you need. So you may need to look for something with larger internal storage.

Apps and Games not fully moving to SD card

So I'm trying to move various apps/games onto the installed SD Card. I'm pretty sure the card itself is working, as photo's and videos are being saved there.
I go into app manager (or Storage, Internal, Used Space, Apps - makes no difference) and I select the app, choose storage. It lets me 'Change" Storage used :- Internal Storage to "SD Card". The progress bar whizzes across and completes. It even tells me the app is now installed on External Storage.
The problem is, the app isn't installed on the SD card, sometimes some folders are created, but they remain empty and the app is still installed on the internal memory. (I checked with a file manager)
I'm not sure what's going on, or if this is normal (short of making the card adoptable). I'm an Iphone user of many years, I finally joined the rebellion ! It's quiet possible I am doing something wrong or droid just hates me, but either way any help is appreciated.
Unfortunately, that's the way it works. It's not like A2SD which moved the whole thing.
