Just got this. Anyone else seen it?
Yeah, there's talk about it in the gpe threads. I assume you're on a ported rom. It won't work for you and they're saying that we have to wait for our official release to get it to boot on our cdma devices.
Interesting!!
And that is a Verizon phone?
Yes but we're running ported gpe roms so the server thinks we're using a different phone. The update isn't for us and it's definitely NOT the Verizon marshmallow update. Too soon for that.
Ah! Makes sense...

Hi all, I have the Verizon GS3 (SCH-I535). When I first got it, I flashed it using this guide - I apparently installed a rom by invisiblek that stripped out a lot of the applications. Well, since I'm a first time smartphone user, I asked in that thread that since my G3 was now rooted if I should accept OTA updates in the future, to which one person told me no. Last night I got a notification that my phone wanted to update to Jelly Bean, so now I'm not sure what to do. I don't accept the update because it will brick my phone, right? And if that's the case, where do I download a rooted version of Jelly Bean for it? (I searched this forum but couldn't really find anything other than people's custom versions, like Slimbean). I'm really confused with all the different rom versions available for the different carriers and models, though I suspect I can only use one for Verizon. Side question too - "rooted" is a modified version of an official OS release, right? It's not a method of installing an OS, it's an actual modified version, right? And if I want Jelly Bean, I have to continue using these modified versions, right?

Jellybean has not been officially released in any capacity to the Verizon GSIII. The update you see is roughly 30mb at the most, it's an incremental update at best from when you purchased the phone. No, it will not brick your phone. If you have a custom recovery then the update will fail. If you do not have a custom recovery then the update will unroot and unlock the bootloader and install successfully. We're months away from a Verizon update to Jellybean.

Download custom roms from the development section. Only flash roms for the Verizon GSIII aka d2vzw. These custom roms are people's different versions of the software available for our phone either officially or in jellybean's case unofficially.

"Rooted" just means the user (you) have the ability to make changes to the system or root of the device that are not possible for stock non-rooted users. Just rooting your device means you gained administrator access to the system but nothing is changed until you install roms or other mods.
There is a truly great post in the development section by DroidStyle that details EVERYTHING you need to ask as a beginner. Here:

Ah, I see, I thought it was JB since there were reports of people in some countries getting the JB update today. Coincidental timing!
Anyways, I went through with the update but it failed.

Ah I see, so if I were to download something that's JB, it's just someone's "fan" version of it? And the JB version that leaked to the international phones today won't work on our Verizon ones?
Thank you for your help!

My pleasure, no worries! I have to much respect for any dev who undertakes developing or porting roms to call it a fan version. It's best to refer to it as "customized" which is what they are: custom versions of what may or may not be available.
Nah, unless there is a leak for the Verizon Jellybean update consider any news you hear/see about GSIII updates as completely useless unless Verizon is mentioned. The international version has completely different hardware inside the phone so any roms meant for that device will not work in the USA GSIII. You also can't actively flash another carrier's roms for this phone, it's not suggested and has the potential to render your device unresponsive.

Before I begin, I'd just like to say that I've reviewed numerous threads regarding this topic, both here and on other forums, and I have yet to find a single conclusive solution to my issue, which is why I'm posting.
I recently purchased an AT&T D800 G2 off the internet because I was informed AT&T uses the same frequencies as Canada's Telus. This is true, and the D800 runs on my Telus frequencies with 4G and 3G HSPA, but I found one annoying niggle (besides all the useless AT&T Bloatware that I can't remove), and that's the fact that I can't update my software.
Namely, it's the infamous "Not Registered" issue that the D800 gives me whenever I try to update. I've tried several fixes, but none have really helped me. I'm still running 4.2.2 JellyBean, Software Version D80010o. IIRC, latest JellyBean version is D80010q, so that means I'm not even running the latest JellyBean version.
I've read about one fix that I have not yet tried, and that is to use an Active AT&T Sim to try and allow it to update, since AT&T pushes out their own updates to devices on their network. Since I live in Canada and AT&T doesn't exist up here in the North, I was contemplating getting a GoPhone Sim (Their Prepaid division?) off eBay and using that just to get the Update. Would that work?
And if not, are there any ways of getting KitKat, and, later down the road, Lollipop without going down the Root path?
Thanks in advance, guys.
I don't know how to fix the ota issue, but you could get it on kitkat by searching for the d80020c tot file on xda and flash it with the lg flash tool. Just take the sim out during this process, I've done this and killed my sim.
Huh, okay.
I've definitely seen some threads that recommend flashing a new ROM.
The thing is (newb question)I rather like the LG Optimus UI and I'm not sure if flashing these things would revert me to vanilla android. Would it? I have no experience and since I don't have a warranty I guess I could try root if it would help.
No, it would install the kit Kat firmware provided by AT&T.

Awesome.
I'm just glad there's a way to bypass OTA issued by At&t.
Thanks for all your help!
P.S. Would flashing the ROM void warranty?
Will a rooted 810PR ever get Marshmallow? More discussion than question.
Apparently yes. We will have to wait tho
Does it Include ClaroPR G4s?
We don't know yet. Regular ATT hasn't even gotton the update yet, and no other carriers in the US have it for their G4 as well.
Hey, I heard somewhere that if you build a ROM off the stock kernel it would work even if you had a locked bootloader, I am going to try to learn how to make ROMs because it sounds intresting. Just a question.
can't we use flashfire to install ROMs?
Now that we have root I'm sure all these options are being looked at by the devs. Its a waiting game less you have the drive to learn how to become a dev yourself. Me personally I don't have what it takes so I'm just checking the forums daily.
Any luck on cm roms

Got a V10 from AT&T today
Hey guys,
We got a V10 from AT&T today in exchange for a G3 that crapped out. I hadn't heard of this phone until I took it out of the box (was expecting a G5). I saw there wasn't a CM release for the H900 and this thread is the most active one I found. I'm a software engineer and have rooted/rom'd several android phones, most recently the G3.
Short story long, I'd like to get CM working/supported on this thing. I saw a guide on stechguide.com for rooting and getting TWRP loaded via lgup/tot method that I'm going to try out. I was also wondering if any of you guys have done this, and if there are any rumors or news for cm support.

If you are on Lollipop you can root using the Tungkick method, but there is no TWRP available for the H900. The bootloader is locked and there is no unlock available for it yet. I wouldn't trust that guide.
If you are on MarshMallow there is no root available yet. Keep an eye out on this forum though, chances are it will break here first.
Hey all! Good news! A 9-year-old bug called the "Dirty Cow" exploit still exists in the Linux/Android kernel can easily grant root on any Android phone!!! See the video below.
http://www.xda-developers.com/9-year...on-of-android/
So there's another bug to exploit for root and even possibly unlocking the bootloader! The bug has been fixed recently in Linux but hasn't been rolled into Android yet. If anyone can get this working on my AT&T LG V10 (running Marshmallow) I'll give a reward of $50! Plus you'll be my hero! Now get crackin!
Have anyone figure it out yet??
Please let me know if you got it
Kriss/anyone.. I assume that nothing has happened with this? There's still interest, no? Come on devs.. Please

There is interest in this. We simply don't have enough devs. We used to, until someone pissed off JCase and he refused to work on the V10.

The key to unlocking their bootloader would be nice
Right, of course. But can I ask for something else that allows the unlock? In other words, can I reword it?
EDIT- I emailed him asking flat out for a way or a contact of his that might be willing to help unlock the bootloader. Let's keep holding our breaths.

Looking to put some feelers out about rooting my dad's phone since it isn't acting right anymore and thanks to VZWs crap upgrade plan he is on, he will have this phone for another year or longer. Can you root and apply one of the custom roms like hyperdrive or even a MM rom? I'd be fine with CM as well.
Anything to make his phone not run like crap. I haven't tweaked an S3 in years, but I do remember that I think VZW released an OTA that made root and boot loader much harder or totally locked it down.
I was hoping someone might have a workaround that still works.
