Hello everyone,
when i upgraded my phone to this rom, the power was working fine and normal.
Recently the power decreases from 100% to 35% in two minutes, which is weird and it takes forever to charge. I have ordered a new battery to test, but i was wondering if it was a software issue?
PAC version, 22.1.1
Android version 4.2.2
Thank you in advance
Install bbs and check no apps are draining your battery, turn your phone off to charge it a couple of times. You should be able to have a basic log to look through after a couple of hours, Let bbs run through a couple of charge /discharge cycles before looking deeper into the logs. I do suspect it's your battery though.
Jokes gets more serious thought, than serious words these days
Try a Sense ROM, I noticed the same problem on all AOSP-based ROMs I tried.
thanks for the replies, yeah i think it was the battery. got a new one.
changed rom to the desire xs
but prefer the previous one.
Hi Guys, I am using HTC Desire S from past 2 years..Currently using SVHD Rom on it..From past couple of days it taking more than 8 hours to charge 100% battery..
Is it related to custom ROM or simply I have to replace the battery?
Sent from my HTC Desire S using xda app-developers app
I've read a few topics about this, some argued it's battery problem while others maintain its not. I've only read of one person whose charging problem was solve.
Initially I tried different roms, gb, ics, jb, etc. Wiping batt, full. Taking battery out, wipe stats, fully charging, wipe stats, etc. After 1 year decided to change my battery. I can't seem to find the cause of it as I am still charging it overnight.
No issue for me though, I still get more than 4 hours of screen on time with the old and new battery.
Would love to hear suggestions from other users if they solve this issue.

Replacing the battery solved this issue for me. I don't think changing roms will help, probably either the battery or the USB lead or charger.

charging time for battery is diffrent in each rom as you see most of sense rom takes 5-6 hrs to charge full battery and non-sense rom (i.e 4.2.2 etc) takes 3-4hrs to charge
Battery tips
Any tips?
Hi Guys, i'm noob, i wana ask about my htc sensation, after 2 year i'm using it, today i found
when battery charging (htc Senstaion) dismiss displaying percentage of battery after i restarting while charging.
****battery charging ------> Battery percentage displaying 60% then i restarting the phone while this situation
and then when phone finish restarting and ready to use battery precentage displaying 100%(full)
is it normal?
sorry my english bad
Boot into recovery and wipe battery stats.

if not all many users(including me) have this situation
it is a htc's common issue after rooting the device
there is no a solution yet
it is just a percentage misreading
by the way i don't know if wipe battery stats will help

After rooting??? R u sure about that ??
I was suffering same issue before rooting and after rooting..
Wipe battery status is useless here ..
Its HTC's fault....

before rooting?
for me that never happened
also wipe battery stats is useless and indeed it is htc's fault

Just a percentage misreading? But if the phone thinks it's at 100% won't it stop charging then?

probably it stops
i am not sure about that
edit: the point is the battery is increasing its percentage slower when it passes 60%-70%
but it charges the same
so if you reboot the device then it jumps at 90% or full charge

Is it known what causes this?
Someone above said "it is a htc's common issue after rooting". Is there any source on that? For all I know, percentage of charge of battery is determined by a combination of output voltage and amps, preferably referenced by a table taking battery age into account (correct me if I'm wrong though).
Rooting the device should not be an issue, unless HTC did something in their rom to detect this and let the battery percentage be wrong. Then again, most of us aren't on the stock rom. To be on another rom, the bootloader needs to be unlocked. Did HTC do something that unlocking the bootloader makes voltage/discharge readings unreliable? I doubt that...
I'm interested in this because I unlocked and flashed a Sensation XE for a friend of mine (SultanXDA's KitKat rom), but the battery discharges very, very fast, without an obvious cause. So I wonder whether it could be the battery is not fully charged and/or the phone decides it's empty to early.
"it is a htc's common issue after rooting"<- i said that
it was a source but i can't find it now
also i don't know if htc did something with unlocking the bootloader by purpose
if you flashed the rom recently don't judge the battery too early
give it 4-5 cyrcle charges until it settles down then see how it goes

I have exactly this problem.
It sounds like the same ROM, Saltan kit kat. I am using the latest kernal 3.4, having tried two kernals I get the same results. For example I charged the phone to full, and after 2 hours of use I'm down to 55%, WiFi on and browsing, gmail synced but not much else, screen brightness turned down etc.
I only flashed a couple days ago, will it improve massively over the next few days?
The phone was giving a days charge easily before flashing.
I am also noticing a message saying 'unfortunately process com.android.phone has stopped working' (or similar). When this happens and I click OK I notice the signal disappears for a few seconds before coming back. Could this be the cause of the problem?
Could it be he ROM?
I'm new to all this but managed to unlock, root, flash recovery, and flash the ROM thanks to the brilliant guides on XDA. Any help with the above would be appreciated.

i am facing the same problem , rather my problem is goes much further .
iam on stock ROM and not rooted my sensation. my device often restart automatically even when battery is about 90% or battery is 40% and it continue this from last 2-3 months.
and after restarting battery percentage is also changed, see attached pics.
i am tired of this rebooting , i observed that restaring is mostly when i connect to calls or text msgs.
can somebody pleeeeeeaase help me.

since you are completely stock then the only thing i can tell you is to check your battery if it fits correctly
also how old is it?

Does anyone have any ideas? Today the phone lasted around 12 hours but with minimal use which isn't really good enough. I thought rooting and flashing would improve battery life but so far I am disappointed. I may try another ROM tomorrow.

This really sounds like your battery, especially if it's not the original or equivalent. But, it could also be an app on the background, keeping your phone from "deep sleep". Bad cell coverage (very low signal) also drains your battery relatively quickly when you're on 3G. A good WiFi connection consumes less power than 3G with bad signal. Another possibility could be (but unlikely) is that your phone is intended for another region and thus having trouble communicating with the GSM network.
- Check your battery.
- Check what your battery is used for.
- Check your battery time with network set to GSM only.

Still you keep saying "after rooting" which is significantly different from unlocking the bootloader and flashing. Furthermore, to me it seems far more people report "better battery life" with their new roms.
About initially flashing the rom: i thought format of system, data and cache (including dalvik cache) ought to be enough. It has had somewhere between the 10 and 20 charge cycles by now. Battery life improved a little, but it's still far from acceptable. The battery percentage between reboots should only differ marginally between reboots (might need a few minutes of usage to become accurate). Also notable: over 20% difference in percentage reading between rom and recovery.
I wouldn't mind investigating this. So I wonder if anyone with "proper" battery life could provide me a "dumpsys" for the battery service and would perhaps have the time to take a look at /proc with me.

i unlocked the bootloader and root the device at the same period and i stayed for months with the stock rom
i don't know which one is responsible for percentage misreadings
also don't get confused
i am talking only for percentage misreadings and not for better battery life
and only when you charge the device.not unplugged
of course i had(and i still have) very good battery life with whatever rom i have flashed
by the way i have noticed the percentage difference between recovery and rom but i don't remember if it was 20%

Alright, thanks for clearing that up. I really want to solve this issue, so I'm quite keen on getting the facts straight.
Back to my issue then (yeah I'm effectively hijacking this thread): is it possible the percentage misreading is causing the battery not to fully charge and/or discharge? Or should I direct my search to another cause?
This is what I found (or did not find) so far:
- Stand-by time seems great, the drain occurs when the screen is on.
- There is nothing in the normal battery usage (usage goes to screen)
- I was unable to detect an obvious culprit with better battery stats.
- I did notice that when I do a dumpsys, service battery shows voltage in V, while my Sony shows it in mV.
- I tried offline charging for about an hour today (light still orange), after boot the battery indicator showed 100%. It dropped to 86% in 7 to 8 minutes.

probably never truly reached the full charge(100%) when charged it in that one hour
by the way how old is your battery?
did you try with a new one?

what do u think , is this battery or some hardware etc fault??
Hey guys, quick question. All the sudden I'd say over the last month or so my battery life has been horrible. I used to go a day and a half roughly with normal use until I had 20% or less battery life. All the sudden now with no changes made to the phone (no new apps, ROM, etc.) the battery life is terrible. I am lucky to get 16 hours with the same usage before the battery is 20% or less. The only change was that I bought a quick charge 2.0 charger (this one: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00QTJZ3D0?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00 ). I'd say I used this charger for about 3-4 weeks until the battery life was noticeably bad. Is it possible that this charger has actually damaged my battery and if so I am assuming it is irreversible since it is a non-removable battery? Thanks.
I have also noticed this.. but since I hadn't left it on stock ROM but for a day or so.. I cannot say that it is the new firmware or the ROM I'm using.. I have also seen a LOT of posting about this issue.. LP 5.x.x has a few bugs that are pretty bad headaches to deal with.... hopefully fixes come out for these issues... mainly (in my case anyway) battery life and data connection speeds

Thanks for the reply. I am using CleanROM 3.0 KitKat, been using it for a long time now and all the sudden it's bad now. Like I said, no changes made, I'm stumped
Hi all, I have 2 Motorola Photon Q (xt897).
Both phones have unlocked bootloader, TWPR installed and SIM MOD to work with italian carrier.
The first one working very well but one month ago the grapich module die. Exactly I don't know why (broken chip on motherboard?) but now it's impossibile to power up.
Rom: Carbon Rom 4.4.4 Kitkat
Initial boot image: tinyurl.com/j6rcao3
Kernel: i don't know
The second one (replacement for the first one) arriving this monday.
Seem working well but have a very bad problem: overheating and impressive battery drain: tinyurl.com/hg8c9y6
In only 5 hours the battery die (also in stand-by!). Seem that cpu working at full frequency all the time without stopping.
I found threads that suggest to change the Rom (this is an issue of CM 12.1)... for this reason I try to reflash CM12.1 and also CM 12... and finally Carbon Rom like the first one. But the problem persist.
The boot image is different from the previous one: oi42.tinypic.com/2jbuwqq.jpg and for this reason, I think there is a different kernel installed (3.0.101-g93ecbd4 [email protected] #1 mon nov 3 10:40:02 CET 2014).
Now, the kernel is the only difference from the first and the second phone.
My question is: the overheating and battery drain can be the consequence of a bad kernel?
In other words... change the Kernel can solve the problem?
Maybe do you know what kernel is in the first phone?
Do you have any kernel to suggest?
Thank you,
Lucio
Seems something is keeping the phone awake. Check your wakelocks at the very least in the battery section, or using an app.
*UPDATE*
I've try some test and I found that the overheating and battery drain continue also with the phone switched off!!!
I assumed that isn't ROMs guilt.
I think the cause can be:
- problem with the kernel taht don't shut down completely the phone and the battery drain continue (unlikely)
- short circuit in the phone motherboard (maybe wrong SIM mod?)
Now I try to open it and find where is localized the overheating (battery, cpu, chip...)
I will give you update soon!

Overheating and battery drain with the phone switched off...?
Are you sure it's actually off? That doesn't make any sense whatsoever.
*2nd UPDATE*
I've performed some other test and the possible fault can be:
- USB connector: short circuit (but I didn't find overheating here)
- battery fault: it's both old battery... the first one have 3 years, the second one 3,5 years
Most probably the problem is the battery... if it's the USB connector I think I must have some other problem (eg: data syncornizing with PC... I do it without problems).
Also the battery full charging is very fast (about 2 hours) and sometimes, when I reach the 15%/20% of residual charge, the battery fall almost istantly to 0% (and the phone switched off).
Now I've buy a new battery from eBay... when I will try it I will can update you with other news...
Definitely, the problem is hardware.
Maybe some shortcut in the main board in some chip (charging chip?).
Main board changed, problem solved.
Thank you for the support!

why not move your battery from the 1st photo q to the new one and try?
I have try with the battery of the first phone but the problems remain the same... I buy also a new battery to try a final test and again nothing changed... hardware problem.
Now with the new main board all works well.
I share with you this information in hope to help other people.
Thanks for the support guys!
