What is with the lack of accessory coverage? - Nexus 6P Accessories

So my phone is going to be here with tomorrow along with the Adopted Protective Case for Nexus 6P (Carbon). I am wondering why there aren't many name brand manufactures with cases; such as otterbox or incipio, out for the nexus 6p? my best guess is that Huawei is new to the US markets to the case makers that dominate the US markets were not given the dimensions of the phone or whatever else they might have needed in order to make a case for a device. Yet It also occurs to me that Google, would have seen to the dimensions being distributed.
My primary concern is really screen protectors. I am really disappointed that Invisible Shield, a company whom I have trusted to protect my phones for the past 6 or so years didn't have a screen protector available for the device. They are usually ahead of the game and release screen protectors before the phone comes out.
So whats the deal here? Who dropped the ball?

I feel the same as you!

The cases will come in due time. The Nexus line doesn't sell nearly as many units as let's say the S6, Note 5 etc... so with that being said case manufacturers have less incentive to make something if its a low volume. Companies make money from selling large quantities usually since R&D costs money which is basic business. Otterbox makes ugly cases, and Incipio is questionable so I don't care about either one even though they were just examples. Some big names are making cases (Spigen, Speck, Adopted (usually only makes iphone/samsung cases), SUPCase etc..) I don't see any issues with the current selection

As Pilz states, the Nexus devices aren't as mainstream as other devices. So mainstream companies like Invisible Shield don't see as much of a gain from producing a product for our devices. Also, you have to take into consideration that the full hardware specs weren't fully released, resulting in a LOT of last minute revisions to cases and screen protectors (e.g. - blocked sensors).
Luckily, XDA has a nice community where we can create threads to give our input on specific accessories. In your case, I'd recommend going through the thread on Tempered Glass Screen Protectors to help you make your choice. I ended up going with IntelliGLASS since they were/are having a BOGO on their product with a coupon code.
Anyways, the phone is barely reaching consumer's hands right now. So as the month progresses, I'm sure we'll see much more options for accessories!

I totally agree. I remember being able to get the Zagg for my N5 almost right away. They have the cutting machine at the Zagg kiosk at my local mall, and they don't even have the template yet, so it doesn't seem to be a production issue.

Most of the top tier case makers tend to be Apple and Samsung only with a few other selected models. It's based on expected sales volume. And Apple and Samsung are number 1 and 2 in worldwide sales and have even bigger sales leads in the U.S. I've been using Otterbox Defenders since I carried a blackberry eons ago. Doesn't look like I'll get one for the 6P.
The sales volume of the Nexus 6P (and even the 5x) has taken most by surprise. Nexus devices had always been good, but somewhat quirky in the past. Not so with the new models. And they are priced to sell too.
As to timing, I agree the manufacturers should be making form fit dimension packages available a lot sooner. But the problem now for a company like Otterbox is that now that they are going to be late to market, does it make sense to make something have already lost a lot of the early sales they would have garnered had they been to market on time?

That won't be in stock ( the correct version ) until after the 9th...
"Hello and thank you for your recent Nexus 6P intelliGLASS HD order!
We here at intelliARMOR appear to have been using incorrect manufacturer specifications when producing our initial round of intelliGLASS for the 6P, and missed the mark with respect to cutouts for the proximity sensor and accommodation for various cases.
To remedy this, we have adjusted our design to be case friendly and accommodate the correct location of the proximity sensor (important for real glass). By the time you read this, the updated version will already be in production and we are on schedule to have these ready to ship out of our U.S. warehouse by November 9th. Any one who preordered intelliGLASS will receive the updated version (albeit with a slight delay). If you already received the initial version, we will setup a replacement for you completely free of charge.
Out support staff is available to help out with any additional questions you might have and we’ll continue to respond the best we can on various forums to answer any questions and serve you better. You can always reach us at [email protected]

Case-mate Barely There - Being Reworked

Hello everyone - I just wanted to let you guys know that I have been in contact with Case-mate regarding the 'Barely There' for the HTC Sensation. As we all know our Sensations have 5 tiny little holes on the back that are used for all sorts of purposes including noise cancellation (what do they all do by the way?). The current 'Barely There' by Case-mate does not have the necessary openings:
http://imgur.com/otbgC
This is the email I received:
"Thank you for your feedback. I presented your concern to our Product Development Team. We are reviewing the issue at this time and should have an update by end of the month, if, when the re-design will take place."
So I would currently advice against buying the current range of cases from Case-mate as they will likely be redesigning the range.
It's nice that they replied with concerns. I ordered a SGS2 full body protector from Skinomi, which has a defective design for the battery cover. I gave Skinomi a call regarding a fixed design for replacement but they just said they will send me a replacement and never did.
Those holes are NOT for noise cancelling, they are just for for the gold antenna connectors!!!!
There is only 1 mic on the back and it's above the camera
How come all official HTC cases have cutouts for these holes if they weren't important?
well htc did say that those holes should stay uncovered, thats why alot of the case mates are called back..
I don't know how they even released the first lot of casemates without proper testing...

wthell is up with all these faulty, wrongly sized or nonexistent cases/accessories for the Sensation? Screen protectors don't account for the curved glass and bubble up and body glove filament scraping off the inside of cases? this is ridiculous. The phone has been out in Europe for amonth and there are still no credible products for us now in the states. [email protected] htc.

how is it HTC's fault? the case isn't even made by HTC. only maybe if HTC sent them a messed up demo unit.
I doubt you will find a screen protector that covers the curved glass. if it does then the protector wont stick to the surface. you might as well go for those wet-applied soft ones.

They make the product. They know the production schedule. They know its release date. They know who they "officially" license to create accessories.
If your phone is a multimedia phone and you have no kickstand for the apparent movies/media your buyers are going to purchase the phone for - who is shortsighted one the customers or the manufacturer?
If you have limited to no decent selection of cases - AT THE STORE - where the product is manufactured for, is it the customers fault or the manufacturers?
If your phone, with the same specs and measurements as its European counterpart, is shipped a month earlier overseas and you STILL don't have products available in the states or abroad, who is the culprit?
If I go into best buy and can buy 15 different cases and a host of different accessories for the Evo 3D (besides the selection the have at the Sprint Store) and I have to scour the internet for the same 10 things for the Sensation who is to blame?
If you license a company to make screen protectors that do not stick to the edges of the curved glass screen who is to blame - the customer that blew $15 bucks on a faulty product or the manufacturer?
Hey, if you are happy with what you have found to equip your Sensation more power to you. However, I and a lot of other Sensation owners, are not pleased with the selection and the lengths we have to go through to get decent accessories at the time of purchase. That falls at the manufacturer's feet. No device then no accessories.
Hey, if you found accessories
I emailed HTC and asked about the holes. Here's the not so helpful response:
"You were wondering about any important holes in the back cover for your HTC Sensation 4G. I would be more than happy to assist you with this hardware inquiry. You have a number of holes on the back cover and there are a few that I would suggest you leave open. Up towards the top of the back cover, you should find the camera and the flash to the left of it. If you look towards the right, you will see a speaker (long rectangular box). The rest of the holes are noise cancelling speakers, which you should be able to cover."

Unless an accessory has HTC's logo on it I would highly doubt that HTC approves, licenses, or ever sees the design of a product. Even if it does have an HTC logo it's no guarantee HTC approved it. Anyone can design and sell any accessory they want. Your ire is misdirected.

Here's my translation, don't cover the camera, the LED's or the speaker. All the others don't matter.
Hard to figure how noise cancellation, and the second mic for stereo recording don't matter, but she hit the priorities I suppose.
I have a hard time believing HTC went to the trouble of putting those holes there for no good reason. But I could be persuaded by actual facts. Still waiting for them.

Apple (IPhone) licenses theirs out for sure. You aren't allowed to put iPhone on the packaging without a license. We were looking into making big bang theory iphone skins and learned that we had to pay them a royalty to put "iPhone" on the packaging. I don't think HTC licenses it out at all. Notice none of these sensation cases have "HTC" anywhere on the packaging, but they do have the carrier model name...

Either way, having to flip cases inside out, felt shedding from inside cases, case recalls, death grip enhancing - the works - could be avoided by even HTC providing a case (at the time of launch) so that we could protect the phone. I am still smarting over the fact that I have seen an Evo 3d Kickstand case by htc and none for the sensation that is labeled a multimedia phone with a front facing camera. there is NOTHING out there (besides the body glove one).

Screen Protector needed

Do we have any options for screen protectors on this tablet? I'd prefer to use the tablet "naked" with only a film over the screen to help deter scratches. (I really don't care if the back gets scratched..)
Thanks

SKinomi makes one for the GT7+ and the quality is good but I'm warning you of their customer service. They have the worst customer service. You better hope you won't have to deal with them. They got 3 strikes from me just on one order.
1st: they forgot to process the order, I had to send them a followup email
2nd they again, forgot to send the item after 10 days from processing. I had to send them another followup email.
3rd: the item arrived, they forgot to include a squeegee! No big deal if this is just the case but they already f#$%ed me 2x.
Plus they only respond if you answer them basic questions but if they had to deal with these issues, they keep silent and doesn't even apologize for their mistake. This is just my experience though.. I hope this doesn't happen to you.
UPDATE: Just got a word from their manager. They are in the process of looking for a company that will provide a squeegee for them (no biggie). And he apologized for everything that had happened.. That's all I needed. .. and a full refund. All is well!
Something I stumbled upon a while back. I've not bought it as I hear "Santa" is bringing it to me.
Looks pretty good from here.

Is it a glossy style or a more matte style? Would you say fingerprints are more or less of a problem with this screen protector? Would you describe the film as stiff or more "stretchy"? Does the protector create an "orange peel" effect?
Thanks

The Skinomis I've used in the past on other devices (wet apply) are iffy. Some were rather "rubbery" (DroidX) and kind of shiny (TF101). The larger the more pliable. I replaced both. Not a real fan of "wet-apply" myself. Others swear by them. Both attracted fingerprints and other goobers but wiped off easily.

This is the clear style not matte. Im curious on how a matte protector wouldfeel or look like but this clear skin is better in reducing fingrprnts than having nothing. My hands sweat a lot and this really helps. The feel is similar to Bodyguardz if you had experienced it. Total opposite ofnthe zagg protector that ive used on a gt10.1. My fingers has a friction squeaking feel on a zagg but this one is smooth.
This film is "stretchy".. wet apply..have like 2 dozen bubbles on it right now because i had to attend to my crying 2 yr old while applying this thing. By the time i came back, the it was too late to redo. But im confident these bubbles will all go away in a couple of days. Will update when the time comes. Some of them are already gone after 24 hours.
Anyway, if youre a fan of bodyguardz then this would be perfect as well. "Skinomi25" coupon cvode on their website saves 25%

I think it's more matte style, but I may be comparing it to phone protectors which I've used outside. No fingerprints on mine - I'm hella dark and ashy, and I have to use hand lotion all the time so chicks dig me. Fingerprints are a huge concern for me, so I am pleased with that aspect of the skin.
I don't notice any orange effect. I'm not sure if it's stretchy, but if you are talking about what I think you're talking about, then it is more stretchy than stiff(I'm guessing you mean kind of like camera film when describing it as stiff. I've had cheap protectors like that.)
Skip the atFolix stuff, I just got it and applied it. Frankly I'm happy they shipped two, as the product was god awful to apply and the first one I applied had a a couple scratches going down it.... so effectively it was burned...
Here's the Amazon feedback I just left and I'll elaborate more
----
Product not cut to size, with 1-3 mm from the edges of the tablet, gives it a cheap screen feel. The screen is only a single back applicator, meaning you only pull one side to apply. As a lot of other other screens use two backings, one to protect the adhesive and the other to protect the screen itself, you can expect some scratching on the screen itself due to the fact that the screens are shipped side by side and therefore rub and scratch during transit. Micro-scratches are very evident. Not happy with the quality and the somewhat self inflicted damage of the screens.
Finally shipper does not have tracking numbers available.
----
As for the cutting of the plastic, I've personally gotten better cut screens for my phones for less, then the cut of this plastic...
I wouldn't recommend this and given in couple months I'll most likely swap this screen out...

Great, just bought this one a few days ago. Bought one of the HandHeldItems cases too that was labeled as being for the 7+ but was for the original. Having zero luck with accessories for this tablet.......

That said I left feedback on the Amazon page, and we'll see if the seller responds no?

I'm getting the impression there are no good choices for this device. Perhaps I'll just get one of the generic "you cut it" protectors and cut it down to size myself.

Zagg has one available at best buy for the tab+ $24.
I miss when i got the original galaxy tab and there were pretty much a wide availability of aftermarket accessories for it. Not so much w/ the Plus. I'm still looking for a clear (non matte/anti-glare) and non-gummy screen protector.
I just got the skinomi finally last night and pulled it off after a minute of application. Just like the Zagg/invisibleshield product it has this grippy/gummy texture i don't like on my touchscreens. That's fine on the body if i don't want to use a case, but really not my preference on the screen.
What i want is a smooth, close to frictionless as possible on the touchscreen that affects the clarity as little as possible. In the past I like the Boxwave Crystals but they don't have any for our device, so I placed a request.
Anyone ever deal with this company? They list a screen protector specifically for our devices.
Looks promising. But then the Titanic looked promising..........

Oh believe me they have it. Their customer service is just plain incompetent and lazy. I got it after a couple of followups.. Oh and when USPS displays on their tracking website "Electronic Shipping Info Received" which indicates Skinomi already printed a shipping label for your item, don't settle and don't wait because for sure they will forget to send it in! Bang their heads until the tracking info starts moving. Then demand for a manager and get a refund for the trouble they've caused you. You then get the item for free. That serves them right because that item is their payment for the aggravation they've cause you. Just send them an email, be irate because I know you already are.

i sent numerous emails. i finally received the stuff from them it only took 34 days. i asked how to get a refund and was told they only offer a refund up till 30 days from order date. after many more emails they finally agreed that if i ship the stuff back they will refund my money. i will be doing my best to warn people of the terrible customer service at this site. not to mention the product comes all rolled up in a stupid tube in a huge package. wouldn't flat shipping the body kit make more sense than rolling it up tight?

Hah, hardly anyone has even gotten anything yet to even review aside from the first version; and the new version that is going to be sent out has the cutout on the bottom, as well. As for customer service...it's nice that they are active on these forums but after so many revisions, possible revisions, future versions, it all just seems like a headache when I've received a working glass protector from other vendors long before. I emailed them asking to cancel my order since I don't really need it, as there hasn't been any movement on my order for the last 3 weeks. They said I would be getting a shipment notification today and I still haven't gotten one.
Spigen's stuff is always cheaper on Amazon than it is on their site as the 5X Glas.TR is only $9.99 on Amazon. Spigen's I know will work as I've installed many on my friends' iPhones in the past as well as my own Nexus 5.
EDIT: Yep. $9.99 on Amazon

Yeah, I been waiting almost a month as well. I may pick this one up just to have something on my phone. Has anyone had any experience with the Spigen Glad.TR?
*nevermind. Just saw that this one wasn't in stock. I guess I'll wait a bit longer.

From the photos on that linked spigen TGSP looks like they have a large cut out at the bottom too.

DBrand Skins - any good?

I'm looking at getting a 6P in the new year and am buzzing having read the reviews. I am, however, considering protecting this one as it is a lot of money to cough up in one go (it will be the first time in a while I have bought a handset outright instead of as part of a contract).
Has anyone got any experience with the DBrand skins? I'm considering one as they look like a good compromise between having my phone completely exposed (and likely to become damaged knowing me) or hiding it away in a big leather / rubber case (why have a nice phone when its hidden away?).
The photos on their website look nice (IMO) but I don't know anyone with one or who has had one. Do they mark / wear much? Are they easy to install?
On a side note, do people still use screen protectors? I haven't done for years as I always struggled to find one which doesn't start peeling at the edges after a week of use. Problem is I always end up with small scratches (nothing major but can be annoying). Do people generally just put up with the tiny marks on screens or do you use decent screen protectors?
Thanks
There are pretty good threads on the topics you listed.
dbrand stuff LOTS of pictures in this thread.
Tempered glass screen protectors. Much more popular nowadays since they don't cost upwards of $20-40 USD like they used to a year or two ago. My 2 cents, people are raving about intelliarmor like they're the second coming of Jesus, but they are just like any other company using a Chinese manufacturer for their stuff. Customer service is on par with other vendors in my experience in providing replacements. I've have zero issues with Supershieldz and every install I've done for myself and others are fine. Prices are also similar if not the same. You can find a two pack of Supershieldz on Amazon for $7-8 USD, I think.
You can't go wrong with dbrand regarding quality and customer support. You'll love it.
I am currently rocking a dBrand skin and Intelliarmor TGSP and both products are amazing.
As for the customer service of Intelliarmor, I can say that they are way above average. I got 5 protectors for the price of one because they provided me with free upgrades to the new versions every time I asked. Though the new edge to edge is not truly edge to edge but it does come in a 2 pack also. The cutouts are perfect though.
As for dBrand, they're not kidding when they say precision cut. There is basically no wiggle room, but the quality has been top notch so far. The shipping takes a while though if you are not located in Canada.
There's whole threads on these 2 products already on this forum if you want to know more or get some more pics.
can't go wrong with dbrand or slickwraps. same quality IMO

1. Please SEARCH before posting. There's already a large OP discussing dbrand skins with pictures, personal experience etc... You can find that OP here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6p/accessories/dbrand-skins-t3233996
2. I am reporting this post so it can be closed because you created a new OP without searching. The forum already has tons of duplicate OPs and it makes it hard for people to find the proper information without searching. We should all know the rules and try to help out rather than create a cluttered mess. I'm not directing this at your, but rather I post this every time I see tons of duplicate OP's because people fail to search first.

Has anybody had any experience with them?...anybody recieved a free case in exchange for some social media reviews? I've been offered a free case.... They want to paypal me the money to order it from Amazon. I thought that was kinda strange... Why wouldn't they just send one? Too good to be true?

They're trying to tap-dance around the fact that they're expecting a Quid Pro Quo (a free case in exchange for a favorable review):
They're giving you money instead of the case,so they can technically say it's not,as you're buying it with your own money.
Yes,you're under no obligation to post a rating of any sort.
But,what they're buying from you is for the review to be listed as a "Verified Purchase",giving the appearance of an unsolicited/no-strings review.
If I were you,I'd report what they're doing to Amazon.
Show Amazon the correspondence you've received.
Yeah, you'll be out of a "free" case, but,JMHO,it's a small price to pay to help keep the reviews honest & legitimate.

Yeah that's a shady way of doing business man. If you really do make great products, let your product speak for itself but making it good quality.
Have it and ita good not bulky too
I actually own 3 of these cases. I was just doing research on maybe getting an S10 for my wife, and the first thing I checked was if ArmadiloTek was going to make a case or not. While looking up info, I realized I never left a review on Amazon. Obviously, if I bought 3 of them, I like them, but people don't get to see my purchase history, so they wouldn't know I'm a fan. I just uploaded this review on Amazon.
BTW - For the price, I think it's hard to beat. Also, if they offer a free case to someone hoping for a review, they are also taking the chance that someone who's not willing to spend $20 for a case is also the type to bash them online for silly things. Unless they are actually soliciting a "Positive" review, giving away a product and asking for a review is pretty normal. Especially for a new company. I've been to plenty of restaurants and bars that offer instant coupons if you go online and right a review, or they give you something free for filling out a survey.

Now I can write a real review after actually using this case, everyday, for more that 4 months. I bought 3 Note9's in September because they were so cheap. I also bought 3 different cases. All 3 cases had built-in screen protectors.
Immediately after getting the cases and comparing them, I ordered another ArmadiloTek case for my 11 year old son's Note9. That was the phone I was most concerned about having protected.
About 1 month later, I had to order another ArmadiloTek, because my mom wanted a stronger case and a kickstand.
In total, I've purchased 3 of these cases in different colors. They are awesome! I've dropped my phone a few times, and I'm sure my son has dropped his plenty. He rides his scooter w/ a Note9 hanging halfway out of his pocket. None of the phones or cases have any damage.
This is definitely my go to case from now on. Not as bulky as other rugged cases, better price, and they work amazing.
I hope they continue to grow, so they can offer more covers for other phones. My wife choose a S9 because she didn't want a large phone. Her case cracked the first time it fell and the case is all scratched up, because it's not an ArmadiloTek case.
I got one of these today and have a question for people who have one.
is the screen protector on yours TIGHT against your phone display cause mine isnt. when I tap the screen I can see and hear the plastic protector hit the screen.
Is this normal or do I have a defective one? (and yes, the peel offs are removed)

It's normal unfortunately. Any device that has a built in plastic screen protector will do that unless you find a way to have the device firmly and stiffly up against the front if the case. You can try filling behind the device with small flat sheets of paper cut out to match the device shape on the back. Adding a rear glass protector may help. Just not sure how much it would though.

thanks, makes me want to think about removing the built in one (the website has info on how to hair dryer it off) and buy a hard plastic one.
the case is awesome though, especially for ten bucks shipped
