4vs5

For those of you that upgraded from the nexus 4 was it worth the upgrade? Ive had an opportunity to play around with a five and the screen is gorgeous. It's a snappy device as well. But after using the recently released ota my nexus 4 doesn't skip a beat.

Well, I think it definitely is worth the upgrade. The N5 looks a bit better, is very fast, the screen is very nice. Overall I am happy with my new Nexus

If you're happy with the N4 ... then IMHO, don't. The N5 is an excellent device. Seriously wonderful. BUT, if you're still happy with the N4, then why worry about it. If the N4 does what you want, you're happy with the screen, the camera, speed, and 3G then be happy with it. For me the step up from 3G to LTE was a big selling point. The N4 would have been a near perfect device if not for that and the lack of internal storage... I'm a "need" 32 GB type.
One other point that I think is a big improvement from the N4 - the soft rubber feel on the black N5.
All in all, take a look at the spec comparisons online. If you find a few things that mean something to you ... for me it was LTE, OIS on the camera and 32 GB ... then make the move. If none of the changes pop out at you, then stick with the N4. It's still one of the best devices out there, again IMHO.

Its essentially a $150 upgrade. You can sell your Nexus 4 for around $200 or maybe a little more.

I'm happy with my upgrade, I really like the nexus4 but to me it was worth upgrading to a Nexus 5 , Im definitely glad I bought it.

I think it was worth it, but I am also a Nexus junkie fwiw. The device is just all around better. I never considered the Nexus 4 to be slow, or have a bad screen, or anything like that. But playing with them side by side, there is a large improvement. The screen is razor sharp and much more vibrant. The camera is a way better if you are patient with it(hopefully google patches in some usability improvements soon). Although it might have to do more with kitkat/google experience launcher than the hardware, the Nexus 5 feels a lot smoother. It's like what project butter did, but taking it to yet another level. Storage bump is definitely nice. LTE makes a big difference if you are in a position to take advantage of it(I'm getting consistent 20-30mpbs with tmobile in my area now). I like the uniqueness of the glass back on the nexus 4, but the understated look of the Nexus 5 is really nice and the phone feels a little better in hand imo. No gaudy chrome plastic trim and such.
Overall, the upgrade is significant if not necessary. If you love your Nexus 4 and don't want to stay on the bleeding edge of the technology curve, you don't need to run out and buy this. But if you are itching for something new, you won't be disappointed by the upgrade.
I'd liken the Nexus 5 to the Nexus 7.2 . Both of their predecessors were Google's first real attempts at user experience focused devices (rather than the developer phone image the old nexus devices had, even if it wasn't accurate). They did a hell of a job with the N4 and N7.1. But this latest generation takes that concept and runs with it, giving Apple, Samsung ,etc a real run for their money in terms of overall polish and brand reputability.

For me it was worth it, but my vice in life currently is new tech. So to have a better screen, faster processor, newer hardware and a phone that doesn't get burning hot anymore, it was worth it.

The LG G Pro 2 was announced last week earlier than expected (MWC was expected) and there are official images and specs by which I cannot be the only one who is intrigued.
Software: Knock Code, the evolution of KnockON that makes it easy to unlock a phone by tapping out a specific code.
Hardware: 13MP rear-facing camera of the G Pro 2 features OIS+, and is capable of recording 4K video. 120fps slow-motion video, natural flash, burst mode, and a flash for selfies that turns most of the screen white for more “soft” lighting.
Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, an Adreno 330 GPU, 3GB of RAM, 16GB or 32GB of storage, a microSD card slot, and a massive 3200 mAh battery. Screen is 1080p and 5.9 inches with a side bezel of a miniscule 3.3mm

Which of you who have the T-Mo G2 and JUMP! service are going to jump to the G Pro 2? and will you later on jump to the G3?

asides from TMob , as an international D802 user im jumping over to the g pro 2 for both me and my wife (she hated her old Sgs3 and is currently hating her Sgs4)
couple of pluses for me and her are the cam and the external storage. screen should be no problem in that size and of course batt/cpu/gpu improvements are always welcomed.
I KNOW I should be using my Lg g2 for another year or 2 but i think those small upgrades are good for our type of use. i sure hope it hits the market soon as there are not many new top performers in our middle eastern market.

I'm leaving the G2 for the Flex. The curved design and battery life was enough for me to switch. I'm a phone whore though.

i'm waiting for the g3. that g pro 2 is too big for me. i like the 5 inch to 5.5 inch space. also if i upgrade i want to upgrade to a better processor so it'd have to have the 2.5ghz snapdragon 800 with the beefed up gpu or the snapdragon 805. also i'd need to see what this ois+ is all about in the store first. the ois on my g2 is underwhelming. with nokia losing its exclusivity rights to the module they use for their pureview camera's ois, i'm wondering which android phones jump on the tech.

To me it's not worth it ,I still love my lg g2..maybe in another year.

Nobody has mentioned that the G Pro 2 is running kit kat straight out of the box and has some of lg's tweaks. Maybe a port for the g2 in ota update later?

Have only had my G2 for a couple of months. Still think it's the best phone I ever had. Not ready to give it up. And any phone from now on will be paid in full, no more subsidy, so I will most likely go Google Nexus from now on.

I think that upgrade should be noticeable. I like the specs of the G2 Pro but i buy always contract free phones, so for just that little i don't wanna spend money....

How much more battery time is the LG flex than G2? I know 500 more mah is quite much.. And maybe the screen will use less power?

I have both the G2 and Flex. The Flex battery life is noticeable better then the G2. It's crazy how much better. Maybe my G2 battery was a dud. lol I'm a power user and at timesI had to charge my G2 a few times during the day. With the Flex I only have to charge when I sleep. As far as the screen display difference I don't notice it but you may be different.

If the Gpro2 comes to T-Mobile I'll probably do it. I had the galaxy s2 for almost two years, but when I switched to the G2 I noticed that bigger phones are still easy to use with my fairly big hands. Now that I'm used to this 5.2 inch screen I really want something even bigger! The gflex would be cool, but the pro2 has a few more things that catch my interest; Namely the camera, sound, and screen.
Honestly though, LG has been very impressive recently. I don't think I can go back to Samsung or any other phone now. Kudos, LG.

I get ridiculously good battery life on my G2, but I don't have Facebook installed or use any location based services except navigation. My biggest battery drain is gp music

I may play with a Pro 2 when I see one, but I'm more looking forward to a G3.

I'll be Jumping to the S5 , I like the G2 a lot and would keep it for 1-2 years but the back buttons are a deal breaker , wished they offered a G2/G3 with the side buttons instead.

I think the G2 is my favorite phone so far. I love it and having a bigger screen would be nice. I dont like the Flex because of the curve.

I like the curve/Flex because it's different. Tired of rehashed phones. Glad we have choices.

Is the moto g good enough for my needs?

I currently have a galaxy note 2 and i can't say i dont like it but it's just not for me.. Even though i got a large hand (still can't reach the end of the phone using one hand though). I usually go out riding my bicycle quite often and the note 2 feels too heavy in my pockets, i can't even sit without taking the phone out of my pocket which gets very annoying. I really liked watching movies and all on my note 2 but i probably don't feel like getting a Samsung phone again because of the Hardware home buttons.
Anyway the moto g is getting sold for 245$ here, and it looks nice and light so i wonder if it's worth the price here? Or are there any phones that are going to meet my needs? (lasts a day of light or medium use and is easy to carry)

I can surely recommend this phone.
Only drawback can be the fixed memory.
For me this is not an issue. But it might be an issue for others.
Although I am not a movie watcher on phones, the MotoG is pretty good at it.

I find the scrolling in app like Facebook is even better than note 3. But the camera is really lousy even comparing to iPhone 4. So think twice if you take a lot of photos with your phone.

Absolutely clear for photos of notes. That's what I use it for precisely. Otherwise the camera is decent at best. 245 bucks is still very much worth. In India it's about 220$ or so for 16 gigs. And I'd say that's a crazy deal. Coming from a 600$ One X, all the more sweeter.

Nope, there's virtually no competition at that price point. You could find a Nexus 4 somewhere but that would be at least 100$ costlier.

I have been using the moto g for almost a month and while it does and will consistently meet your requirement of 'a day of moderate usage', it's weight is slightly on the bulkier side. That said, once you get used to its weight, it is a pure steal at the price points it is being sold at.
PS: psst, update to kitkat, enable developer options, toggle to Art and also try the Google now launcher in it. May have to download the package from external sources. Epic

The Note 2 is better.. but if it's too big then get the Moto G i guess.
Have you tried getting used to the Note 2 size anyways? I had a 3.5" phone to a 4.5" phone and the 4.5" felt too big.
A few weeks passed and now i'm used to it, in fact i'm never going to go under 4.5" in my next purchase.

I switched from a Samsung Galaxy S4 and the Moto G is better for my needs, smaller, actually snappier in general, better battery life, feels like much better build quality for a much cheaper phone, and the only thing I missed from the S4 is OTG USB but update fixed that! So even if you are needed space for films ect, wack them on a USB and buy a cheap small cable and you've got more storage when needed!
You won't be disappointed!

@SamsungAdmire it was never about getting used to the size, i do find anything smaller than the note 2 small but the note 2 doesn't fit me even though i really want to use it.. It's just too heavy and hard to carry around while cycling. The moto g seems like the phone for me.

If you are spoiled by the battery life of the note, then you will love the Moto G. Just as smooth (maybe smoother) and great screen quality. biggest sacrifice is the camera so that part is up to you.

There was a time where 4.5 inch screen was considered too big for a lot of people. I adapted really quickly from my old Note 3 and currently am comfortable with a compact phone. But your milage will vary

switching from g2 to nexus 5

i have a verizon lg g2 hate it only had it for a month having proximity sensor issues and the software support is terrible ive heard there is bad battery life on n5 but im sure a custom kernel and rom will fix that but im just wondering could the nexus 5 have some of the same hardware problems not much options htc to locked down samsung is worse than htc definately dont want another full lg device the nexus experience seems cool from what ive used of my friends galaxy nexus which im guessing the nexus 5 is a million times better

I'm struggling to understand what you're saying, But the nexus 5 does not have a terrible battery life. I was sceptical about it as well at first but I made a good choice to buy this phone. wicked battery life for me

Yeah battery life is pretty good. I don't know why so many people are saying battery is bad on the N5. I get 4 hours of screen on time no problem and a full day of use, with some charge left (around 20% at the end of the day). If that's not great.... On my old Galaxy S3 with almost similar battery size (2100mAh for S3, 2300 for N5, but N5 has bigger display with a higher resolution), I could never get such screen on time, no matter what I did. 3h on the best of settings is all I could manage. With some tinkering, you can get 6h Screen on time on the N5 easy!

yes i figured that i just lowered the bill and data my moms going to be the only one on verizon using data switching to an att mvno called puretalkusa has great plans oh can i disable lte on nexus 5 and just have 3g the max data i can get is 1gb

The nexus 5 battery life is pretty good.
With the N5 you can get over 4 or 5 hours of SoT with a good WiFi connection. (On a day).
Or more than 3 or 4 with an average 3G/4G connection.
And some people is having more than 4 - 5 hours of SoT with 4/4 bars 4G connection

I came from Samsung Galaxy S4 and I LOVE the Nexus 5. Great phone! Battery life is not bad at all. Plus, I'm running stock KitKat ROM with Franco Kernel r36 and that improved battery life even more. I've only gotten this phone below 50% 3 times in the last month with average daily use. (no extended gaming, etc.) And the Camera doesn't suck on this phone as some people will say. Are there better cameras on other phones? Yes. But it's still a phone camera and is more than adequate. It takes good clear pictures.

I changed from an S4 as well. I find this phone far superior to it.

That's a terrible advice, it was your fault. I'ts actually more reasonable if you tell yourself "I won't buy a smartphone because I tend to drop them" than telling someone not to buy it because it broke when you dropped it. HTC One breaks, G2 breaks, same for i5 and SGS4. Just protect it .

I can't tell if your kidding or not but your definitely making a bold assumption. I dropped by gs3 off my lap with is maybe a foot and a half, maybe 2 and it broke. Top tier phones dropped at the right angle can break from a 6 inch drop, or survive a 6 foot drop. Its all luck once its out of your hands and in gravity's hands. That goes for any top tier phone. If you want an indestructible phone get a cheap mid ranger. My coworkers have many, all drop them constantly. Many scuffs and scratches but no broken screens...

I stated in another thread. I think that the true signal is going to be great because signal on the g3 for me is bad.... And this looks more promising than any other phones coming out.....

I was eagerly awaiting a Nexus device but considering the pathetic specs of the 5x and the fact that the 6p won't be in stores has me really considering LG once again. I'm really excited about that 4GB of ram for this new device. I may not be interested in a dual screen phone though if this is what is coming. LG so far is really good at having a large single display and keeping overall dimensions to a minimum. Simply adding an additional screen would make it overall too big.

Great phone! Time to upgrade from LG G Pro 2

So it looks like a no brainer. I guess this is my next device but it's a little bigger than I really wanted to go. I guess I could go without a big bulky case on the V10 though considering it's very durable. Does anyone know if LG is still releasing an LG G4 Pro, or is that not happening this year?

Can't wait for the V10! Been switching between my aging LG Nexus 4, and my Samsung Note 4 (Not a big fan). My Nexus 4 has always been my favorite phone, can't wait to be daily driving another LG. Props to LG for sticking up for the power users who require a removable battery and SD card slot!

Interesting concept, but I've been wondering for awhile why is it that LG continues to use 3000mAh batteries, can they not improve the capacity?
The G2, G3, G4, Flex 2, and now V10 share the same capacity. Of course the G2 does best with 3K, yet that doesn't explain why 2yrs later they haven't moved to at least 31-3400mAh. From my quick research none of the newer LG's have comparable battery performance to either the OPO/G2, a trait that led me to love my G2.
From my personal experience newer LG's (going off of screen time provided by others) are comparable to the original Optimus G, which was between 4-5hrs (or G1 I suppose). LG is great with implementing strange features like dual this, dual that, flexible this, leather that. Yet, not much has changed for battery.

Good question. What about my G3 with 538 ppi screen? Still better than most new phones, I love this phone and I still think its beautiful in white with the metal edge. Now you see why I'm torn on any upgrade.
With the battery, it would make sense to keep using 3k mah when a lot of the new phones are still lower. Especially if LG can keep using at least part of the same battery mfg process to save on retooling and set-up costs. Maybe they feel like battery life is still competitive so they're not investing R&D money there.
Anyway, I'm ready for a change and I'm 85% sure it's going to be a Nexus 6P in Frost white!

I really want to go for the Nexus 6P but the AMOLED screen is a major turn off for me.
This doesn't look to shabby but having just dropped $600 on a G4 that has some annoying touchscreen issues I'm not too happy with LG at the moment.

Will stick to my G2. Only true upgrade would be RAM but I can survive with 2GB for now. Camera on G2 is alright and honestly 5.2" isn't exactly small.
More than 2 years and still not a single mAh extra. I can't understand their approach to the battery either but I can see why they chose snapdragron 808 once again. This will make the G5 stand out even more when they announce that it is powered by the snapdragon 820.

Nice general spec comparison to the iP6+

If it supports Tmo 12 band, I could definitely see myself moving on from my G3. I use the IR Blaster often enough where I don't think I will willingly move to a phone without one, very glad to see it's on the V10.
The only thing missing that would make it perfect for me is stereo front facing speakers, but at least the one speaker faces forwards instead of backwards like on my G3.
