Stuck at rooting Yuphoria Android (YU5101A). Can't flash or hotboot custom recovery. - YU Yuphoria

So I received my Yuphoria about a week ago. Decided to attempt rooting, unlocked the bootloader but I cannot seem to get a custom recovery to run on it, be it CWM or TWRP.
When I try to hotboot the image in fastboot mode, as soon as I enter the fastboot boot recovery command, my PC loses connection to the phone and a message pops up saying "USB device not recognised".
When I try to flash the recovery images, it is always successful. However, when I boot into the recovery, it always loads up the stock recovery, which is strange since the flash was successful.
Any solutions to this problem?
EDIT 1: Tried it with multiple PCs. Same problem for each one.

its not strange. its the way it works. after flashing custom recovery DO NOT REBOOT THROUGH FASTBOOT. just pull out the usb cord. remove and reinsert the battery and then press the volume down and power button together. You will boot into recovery. I will recommend twrp.

TWRP just won't install. EVEN when I do the "no fastboot reboot"

EDIT: IT FINALLY WORKED! I just flashed an older version of twrp. Pretty weird how that's working and the newer one isn't. Should I keep this post for people with the same problem?
I know about the problem with cm12s and with the cm recovery thing.
I tried everything. Searched and tried nearly all of the different recovery or root install tutorials. But it's still not working!
Every time I install a recovery (both twrp and cwm) it won't install even though it said it worked. When I do the "remove usb, vol down + power" trick after flashing it just won't boot. It just shows the logo and then it reboots. If I release everything it boots my phone up normally. Even clicking recovery reboot in the reboot menu doesn't work. Then it will bring me to the cyanogen recovery.
My debugging mode is on.
Cyanogen recovery update is OFF.
I'm now using cm12.1s but it didn't work on cm12s either.
ADB and Fastboot are working fine. I tested it and my phone reacts when I give it commands (like fastboot reboot or adb devices)
My bootloader is unlocked (confirmed with fastboot oem device-info)
I just got this phone yesterday. I didn't expect this much trouble with just rooting.
ps: this is one of those "it should work, but it doesn't" moments.
Yes. After cm12 the cyanogenmod is ignoring the cyanogen off recovery mark.
After flashing recovery twrp via fastboot, direct reboot to recovery manually via button. Try look at faq. See q22. http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/help/faq-oneplus-one-frequently-questions-t2895136
Always keep a post like this, it's good for future reference (people having the same question will thank you for sure)!
Use Philz recovery. Many are facing same issues with TWRP

Just like every other method I've tried, that method doesn't seem to work either.
Hi Benalimarwan,
Thanks for your post. I flashed openrecovery-twrp-2.8.5.0-bacon.img. but, it still didn't work. When I logged into recovery mode it still logged into cynogen recovery. Which version of twrp did you flash? Thanks!

Works for me from latest stable CM12
1. Unlocking Bootloader via fastboot
fastboot oem unlock
fastboot reboot
2. USB Debugging -
On your phone go to Settings > About phone > Tap on Build number 7 times. This will enable Developer options. Now go back to Settings > Developer options > Enable USB debugging
3. Disable CM Recovery Protection -
On your phone go to Settings > Developer options. Then disable the 'Update recovery with system updates' option.
4. Installing a Custom Recovery
fastboot flash recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.8.5.1-bacon.img
got it from http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/bacon (one recommends don't use 2.8.7)
reboot to system
5. Flash your custom recovery again, but after flashing don't do a normal reboot. (DONT FORGOT TO Disable CM Recovery Protection first in normal boot before)
After the flash has succeeded disconnect the usb cable, then power down the phone by holding the power button down, once it's powered off use the power + volume down button combo to boot directly into recovery. This first forced reboot into recovery somehow subverts what was keeping it from staying flashed and all subsequent normal reboots into recovery will boot into the custom recovery of your choice.
gawd i nearly went out of my mind last night trying to flash TWRP , everything was working fine , fastboot checked out , unlocked the OEM also but it refused to flash TWRP , threw up errors "cannot open recovery' then i remembered the "hide file extensions for known file types" in win7 which was checked and ran
fastboot flash recovery rec[TAB]

.i.e hit tab button before hitting enter and it flashed it like a charm !! and i was already to throw this new cell out of my window
Please help me understand Step 5.
Once 'fastboot flash recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.8.5.1-bacon.img' is completed, I shouldn't do a 'fastboot reboot'. Instead of that disconnect USB, and then Poweroff using power button. Now use Power + Volume down to boot into recovery. This should allow me to use twrp recovery. Is my understanding correct?
Regards,
Kiran
Hi Guys,
Just did step 5 again.
Did 'fastboot flash recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.8.5.1-bacon.img' and disconnected USB, Powered off the device and powered it on using Volume down + Power button. It logged into twrp recovery. I then selected 'Install' and phone automatically got rebooted. Not sure why. I powered it off and powered on again using volume down + Power buttons. It then logged into CM recovery.
Repeated above step again. Again faced same issue. Any ideas?
I unlocked boot loader 4/5 days back. Since twrp recovery was not working, I continued using phone. Installed several apps. Do you think this might be an issue? Do I have to unlock boot loader again and then do 'fastboot flash recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.8.5.1-bacon.img'??? Please suggest
Regards,
Kiran
Do it this way with fastboot:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img (you know the drill...)
when this is completed type in fastboot reboot
BUT MOST IMPORTANT! hold the volume down button on your opo the whole time before you press enter to run the command and keep holding it until TWRP boots up.
This worked on 5 OPO's. (3 were mine, one was my brother's and one is a friend's)
im too on stock 12.1..So which twrp recovery version ll i flash????

Wug's Bacon Root Toolkit
I had this problem when I tried flashing the custom recovery (TWRP) manually. It didn't matter what I tried, I could never manage to make TWRP persist over CM Recovery after a reboot. After giving up and staying in stock for some time, I decided to try again after getting the OTA to CM 12.1S, but, as no surprise, the same thing still happened. So, as a last try, I downloaded Wug's Bacon Root Toolkit and voila... it finally worked, I had a TWRP that persisted over CM Recovery after a reboot. I don't know what the toolkit did different than me when I did it manually, but it managed to make it work! Hopefully it also works for you...
only used toolkit for Fastboot driver installation...Good step by step instructions...but flashed 2.8.7.0 twrp with adb commands as described by Heisenberb...finally installed recovery n rooted my opo...

YU Yureka with no OS stuck on a Bootloop and unable to enter recovery mode.

Hey guys!
So, i was trying to install CM13 unofficial version, and wiped the system and internal storage using TWRP recovery. I was supposed to install the rom from a zip file i had placed in the external memory card. What i did, was, i rebooted the phone by mistake, after wiping it from the recovery without installing the ROM and now the phone is caught in a bootloop. I know i am an idiot to do that. I tried removing the battery and reboot it in recovery mode using the key combination with no luck. It just starts the boot loop. I tried using fastboot and adb from pc to push files into the internal memory, but my device is not getting detected on the adb anymore (maybe the usb debugging is disabled now?).
What i guess is stopping TWRP recovery from showing up is the lack of twrp/themes folder in the internal memory since i wiped it. But there might be some other cause that i am unaware of. What do i do now? Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Hi! I'm having the same problem with this post... Does anyone knows the solution of this problem. I'd be really glad if anyone could help me with this..please!
Hey are you able to boot into fastboot mode? If you can....
Prerequisites –
1. Make sure that you have 70-80% battery on your phone.
2. You need a PC and a USB cable to connect your phone to the PC.
3. Flashing the factory firmware will wipe all the data present in the internal memory. So, make a backup of that if you can.
4.Install all the necessary Device drivers.
DOWNLOADS -
1. Download the flash tools from here . http://www.mediafire.com/download/87gfz7mdch188an/Flashtools_For_Yu_Yureka.zip
2. Download the factory firmware from Here (cm 12.1) . http://builds.cyngn.com/factory/tomato/cm-12.1-YOG4PAS3JM-tomato-signed-fastboot.zip
Steps To Flash Factory Firmware –
1. Extract the flashtools zip in a new folder on the desktop.
2. Extract the factory firmware zip in the same folder and make sure that all of the flashtools files are also present.
3. Now, power off your phone. If you are stuck in a bootloop, then pull out the battery and reinsert it. (Do not switch on the phone.)
4. While pressing the Volume Up key, connect your phone to the PC with the help of a USB cable.
5. You should now see the fastboot logo on your device. If you did, leave the Volume Up key. (If you do not see the logo, retry the process.)
6. Now go to the folder where you extracted the flash tools and factory firmware and run the flash-all.bat by double clicking on it.
7. A command window will open and the flashing procedure will start. (Make sure that your device does not disconnect from your PC during the procedure.)
8. The command window will automatically close once the procedure is completed.
9. Disconnect your device and boot it up by pressing the Power button. (Since this is first boot after flashing the firmware, it may take upto 5 minutes.)
Done you should be back on cm 12.1

I flashed the factory image via YGDP tool as well as fastboot. But it boots upto a point and then goes in bootloop. Also if i wipe data/cache still it makes no difference. Also unlocked bootloader and twrp also don't load up. Again goes in bootloop.

Sorry to hear that anyway,
By stock lolipop you mean you had the yureka plus with Volte From factory right!!...if so the twrp might have been for the yureka plus with the cm bootloader which got replaced in the new Devcice
I am facing the same problem and in my case I dont think its an battery issue...I was happily using the CM 13.0 Snapshot Rom since a long time...but today morning when I did a soft reset by going into the settings in my yureka...the phone has gone in bootloop...and nothing is working...using fastboot I even flashed the twrp again and also flashed the CM 12.0 Stock firmware..but nothing is working...after the YU logo it restarts....please help...
I am also facing problem maybe worst

Ignore that and use other fastboot commands and go ahead, as your device is being detected in fastboot mode.

But when I am executing other fastboot commands it halts the process between with error "FAILED (remote: unknown command)".
I have read about this error and people suggested that I need to get into "Download mode" not "fastboot/bootload". To get into "download" mode I tried pressing "VoulumeDown+Power+Home", but nothing happened, it simply restarted the phone.
Please advise.

Oneplus One stuck in recovery

Event 1 : My oneplus one got stuck within TWRP recovery, have tried flashing other custom ROMs but while rebooting to system it rebooted back to TWRP recovery every time. Tried to reboot the phone to bootloader mode, even that resulted to rebooting to TWRP.
Event 2 : After this I've replaced the TWRP recovery with stock recovery, then connected to my computer through adb sideload via the OTA update option in stock recovery menu. But since I do not have the OTA update file can not test either it will boot or not. Here I require the whole zip file not just the new update portion.
Now, is there anyway to get to twrp recovery again or boot the stock rom in the phone.
Any form of help is much appreciated...

I guess I know what caused the rebooting of twrp everytime.
It's because of the vol - button is getting pressed
automatically. Just open the back over and clean the vol button strips then reattach the back cover properly, your issue of twrp rebooting should be solved.
And you can flash the twrp using fastboot then flash any rom you want to.
The issue got figured out..thanks a lot sir..your effort is much appreciated..

Xperia Z3 won't boot into recovery

It's been two days since i have been trying and now it's driving me crazy. I am on stock marshmallow with unlocked bootloader and root. I was trying something (irrelevant here) , and now the phone won't boot into recovery.
No green light when the phone turns on to press the volume buttons to boot into recovery.
Tried adb commands but they just reboot the device. Tried flashing ftf files but still the recovery won't come up.
Tried each and every recovery image out there but still no luck.
The recovery flashes with success but adb returns error "no devices/emulators found"
Btw I'm installing twrp recovery. If anyone knows a solution to this problem, please help

How did you manage to "successfully" flash a recovery if adb doesn't even find the device. Usually when I flashed a TWRP I just booted into fastboot and did a quick fastboot flash. Never had any issues with that whatsoever. Maybe try that.
Here's the full story. I first unlocked the bootloader and flashed twrp, rooted and everything went fine. After a couple of months i decided to install lineage os , so i booted into recovery and wiped data, system etc. But i forgot to copy the lineage os zip , so i switched off the device(despite the error message "no os installed"), removed memory card and put files on it and inserted the card back. After this procedure, the phone stopped booting into recovery. Ever since then i am able to flash stock ftf files and everything but the device won't enter recovery so I'm unable to root it again. I hope this will help you understand the situation

Try an alternative route.
Fully flash a stock ftf .291. Everything will be up to date then and you'll have the latest bootloader.
Then try two things.
First try fastboot flashing the latest TWRP from Nailyk.
Then boot to recovery holding power and volume keys as you boot and it will boot directly to recovery.
You could also try fully flashing an ftf.
Then use adb to fastboot flash a custom stock based kernel like advanced kernel which includes TWRP 3.0.2.
Use that to boot to recovery the old way and voila you have recovery.

Yeah that's the one. At the least it will set your phone back to factory settings and you can just start all he root tutorials from the beginning.
Option 2 should work for you.
You should definitely make sure your adb on your PC is working and make sure fastvoot is as well. Just to be sure its not the PC side of things.
I realize this is a bit of a necro-post but I thought it might help someone.
At some point TWRP on the Z3 Compact switched from Volume Up+Power to enter recovery to Volume Down+Recovery.
I spent about an hour trying to get into TWRP because every bit of documentation I read said you have to "power on and then press volume up several times" to get into recovery.
However that is NOT the case.
To get into TWRP after it's been flashed you have to hold Volume Down and Power at the same time, then release Power once the screen lights up.

At the beginning, after flashing the twrp it was showing only TWRP screen not the options. then i rebooted the system and the phone rebooted without any issue (till now, phone was ok). then I again flashed the twrp but it remained the same. after that i tried different command from the Powershell. (fastboot boot twrp.img) and it showed downloading. after waiting for 5 min, I just closed the PowerShell and tried to reboot. from that time I cannot boot my phone anymore. then i again flashed the recovery but could not boot the phone. when i triy to boot the phone it only shows the recovery screen. I've attached the commands that I used to flash TWRP. Please help me to solve the problem.

Have you tried booting the recovery by pressing Power + Vol up?

Now since you are bootlooping we would need to install MIUI back again, to do this download the MiFlash Tool and the fastboot ROM for the latest MIUI, now copy it's file path and paste in MiFlash Tool, also make sure it detects your phone, now in the bottom right corner there would be an option like flash_everything_except_internal (similar to this) so that the internal storage isn't erased, now flash the ROM and let the phone boot up atleast once.
Once that's done use this TWRP (https://forum.xda-developers.com/re...unofficial-twrp-3-3-1-proper-t3933531/page4), it has a fix for the encryption bug and won't lead to a bootloop (the password/code/pattern asked in it is the same as the phone's), now you have TWRP installed and running
Thanks for your support. I followed the instruction and bootup the phone. But I'm afraid of flashing TWRP ?
It worked. I installed TWRP without any issue . Thanks again ?
TWRP 3.3.1 has bug, reinstall TWRP 3.2.3 and boot to recovery and then reboot to system.

I have now flashed TWRP. But my phone isn't booting into TWRP recovery and the power button and volume UP button is booting the phone into MIUI recovery. Also when booting into the system, it's asking for a password when I had no passwords on the device. Will MiFlash Tool help in this case??

The password is on the phone lock screen? In that case your device must have got encrypted, you might have to format all partitions and then flash with Mi Flash.Do have a try with MiFlash first, might help if it's not encrypted. Also make sure you used the right commands to flash the recovery, and use OrangeFox or Peter's.
