GPS fix - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

For several weeks now, the compass was broken, but I could live with the view from top at the maps. Now it won't even find my GPS. Also, when I activate to check in to a location to Instagram, it shows a different location than where I am, and I have to use the search. How can I fix it? I live in Greece.

I am facing issues with GPS as well. I am facing issues with Google navigation. GPS doesn't fix. It takes too much time. I used GPS fix app which fixes GPS in 1-2 min. Still Google map takes 15-20 mins to figure out where I am on the map and start navigation correctly. Is it a ROM problem? Currently i am using resurrection remix. When I was using Blisspop, navigation was slower than the car speed. Means few mins after I take a turn, Google map would instruct me to take a turn. Any idea what could be the problem? I recently did a clean flash. But that didn't fix the issue.
Missed one more point, after 15-20 mins GPS locks and Google navigation starts working. But frequently it would announce GPS signal lost. To test, I kept running my nexus 4 in parallel. Nexus 4 locks GPS instantly and on the same route never losses GPS signal.

No GPS Fix - Unless using ATT Nav.

So I know a lot of us (probably you if you're reading) have had tons of problems with the GPS regardless of ROM vesrsion. I've tried several ROMS (currently using Romeros (great)) and several radios (currently .28).
And here's what I've found. GPS will almost never work - except if ATT Nav is running. Then it works every time. However, as we all know, once you log into the Nav - you're being charged. This brings me to my quesiton. Have any of you Moderators / Hackers tried seeing what's in the ATT Nav that's enabling the GPS. I spoke to HTC today and they told me that the phone was designed NOT to work unless ATT Nav is running in the background. So what's that program doing to activate the GPS. And (and I'm not sure if this is how it works) couldn't we just install the app, and take a picture of the used dll's and registry changes to see what it's actually doing - and write a small program to do the same thing?
Thanks,
BZ
My GPS works without even having ATT Nav installed. It just takes awhile to 'warm up'. When I'm planning to use the GPS I will just fire up my map program, iGo or Google Maps and wait. It takes about 2 minutes to start working and then I get good GPS signal until I'm done.
i dont think this is true, since people with the unlocked/unbranded touch pro are having the same gps issues.

Same here. I go out to start the car and the nav program (CoPiolot or google maps) and come back in a couple minutes. THe GPSTest app doesn't seem to get it started any sooner, just tells you what sats it's seeing and the signal strength of each.
Regis
There is a whole thread on this subject with a cab file called GPS Tweaks.cab in it. Installing that CAB file fixed all my GPS issues .. Google, Windows Live Search, iNav all make proper use of the GPS now.
My gps works with google maps..
Launch quickgps, run google maps, it picks up sats in 1-3 mins.
ATT Fuze, stock rom, google maps
having gone through Advanced Configs and changed a few settings on the GPS, my GPS seems to be working perfectly within reason of a GPS on a phone. As long as i am outside or by the window, i get at least 4 sats in no more than 1 minute. most of the times, it is accurate to at least 20 feet if i am not in fast motion (car speed)
No problems here. Stock ROM, never installed AT&T Nav, takes about a minute or so to warm up, and loads Google Maps and Liver Search quickly. Very accurate - right down to standing under a tree in a park.
There's nothing to what you are saying - it must be a coincidence. It's been proven that the GPS is not locked to AT&T Navigator.

[HOWTO] Check your GPS signal

1) Install GPS Status & Toolbox
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.eclipsim.gpsstatus2&feature=search_result
2) Run it
3) See how long it takes to get a location. Location appears in the spinning area under "mag field". Seems to take 9 to 11 more satellites to lock and works best outdoors.
Why do you need this app? Using Google Maps will not be accurate, as it uses Cell tower and wifi for triangulation (in addition to GPS). GPS Status & Toolbox uses GPS only. So while maps may have a location, GPS may not even be locked on whatsoever.
If GPS is not locked on, things like Maps Navigation and TeleNav won't work.
Took about a min to hit 8 locked on...turned wifi on and connected and locked in 20 seconds with 6 sats.... hmmmm will test more..
Both tested outside

Check out the slow gps fix in the dev forum. My GPS has always been pretty good but after changing the SUPL server in the hidden menu I get lock way faster than I already was.

GPS Accuracy

I'm on CyanogenMod 10.1.2 and I'm using Strava to record my cycling rides. For some weird reason the new track I rode isn't accurately recorded as you can see in the image attached. The lines are straight and not curved with the track. My friend that rides with me records his rides also and he's using a Nexus 4 and on his map it looks perfect. I attached the same part of the track from his map so you can see the difference.
I was wondering if the problem is with the GPS receiver being inferior to the Nexus 4 or is it a software issue?
I think that this is a software issue, open in app that you are using and search for gps settings or something there will byte probably to set gps refresh rate or to change on how many meters to track or fix gps peaks or something like that...(you can try another app and see does will be the same )

Well, Google Maps is the tracking app, Strava only shows the relevant cycling data. So I think it's something with Maps that is incorrect. Couldn't find any GPS settings in it. I did turn off Google Location Services, maybe if I enable it the tracking will be more accurate? Or maybe it's just that Maps version that is buggy. Also, I'm not updating to Maps 7 cause it's buggy for some reason.

why don't you try app like runkeeper https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fitnesskeeper.runkeeper.pro&hl=en
Or something like My Tracks from google https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.maps.mytracks&hl=en
and see how it goes
I already have a pretty nice database of rides recorded on Strava so it's kind of a bummer to switch apps now, but I will try for the testing.
Thanks

It's weird, I actually just checked my past recorded rides and there the lines are correct. It's only recently that it started recording with these straight lines... I just have to figure out what have changed...
I figured out what was the problem in case anyone else is interested. I recorded those past rides with Maps 7 and since it was a bit glitchy I reverted back to Maps 6.14.4. Turns out the older version just tracks straight lines. I'm back with Maps 7 and the tracking is perfect!
I hope my phone won't go too crazy with Maps 7. As long as it tracks my rides correctly I'm glad
Great ,What i have told you it's a software problem

No GPS signal when navigating

Hi guys, currently I am experiencing a GPS issue on my Oneplus One. I am not sure when and what exactly I did that causes this and I see it is a common issue on Oneplus One devices, especially ones that run Marshmallow.
When I open Google maps or Waze, I can see my location exactly. It even tracks my movement well. But as soon as I navigate to an address, it loses signal.
Is there any permanent fix to this? I am not fond of using GPS Fix application to refresh A-GPS every time I need my GPS locked. Thanks in advance.
Bump, anyone?

Waze GPS issues

Hello,
after two days of good GPS working, today I had an issue. After setting up destination in Waze, it showed a message "GPS cannot connect" or similar. I restarted the phone but it was the same. I let the Waze run for 10 minutes, but nothing changed.
Then I started Google Maps. There was no GPS connection neither, but after couple of minutes it started to work. And then I was able also use the Waze as well.
Do you know guys what is the issue?
Thank a lot.
Sounds like an agps (assisted GPS) issue. Periodically most phones download a table of satellite locations to speed up getting a lock. Otherwise it can take some minutes and some apps don't seem to cause a proper initialization. There is often a system setting to also allow WiFi scanning to speed up a lock. This uses access point locations to get a quick fix using Google's database of WiFi locations. Lastly the phone can use cell tower locations also looked up from a database. If you've ever tried to get a lock while on an airplane, you will see this effect.
I'm short though, if the GPS ever gets stuck, there is a good app called GPS test from chartcross that always kick starts it again for me.

I don't know what the root cause is or the fix but I am able to use a free app called gps locker which locks gps then while running Waze I have few if any issues. It's also nice as it let's you create a shortcut for your home screen that you can tap, which launches gps locker , locks gps location, then auto launches Waze. Super handy. See attached.
Is anyone else having major GPS issues. Waze and Google Maps is having issues acquiring a GPS signal. I tried GPS lock but that doesn't seem to solve the problem for me either. It seems to work sometimes and gets a signal pretty quickly but other times it doesn't work at all. It's very frustrating.
Seems like Waze might be the issue.
I saw another post on t mobile support that suggested removing Waze clearing cache and restarting. This worked like a champ for me
Google maps works perfectly again. GPS locks immediately like it should.
