Hello. My issue is that my phone won't connect to LTE in stock ROM, but it connects with CM 12.1. But my main "concern" is that it used to connect to LTE using stock ROM... To make the long story short: when I bought the phone, it only connected to H, even if I selected LTE in Preferred Network Type (selecting LTE there even made, and still makes my data connection unstable, getting disconnected and rapidly connecting to data network, but only uses H network type) so I selected 3G, because it was made my connection stable.
Then, after some time, I decided to try and select LTE again, and it connected to LTE! Good, fast, stable connection. But after some weeks, I had to wipe my data partition, and again... it would't grab LTE. Some days ago, I flashed CM ROM, and I was surprised that it grabbed LTE with it again. And today, I decided to flash stock ROM again because CM gave me some problems with moto apps (I had to wipe data because it entered in a bootloop), and again, no LTE in stock ROM.
My question is, what can be causing this behavior? I didn't do anything to purposely fix data connection and use LTE, and my phone is capable of connecting to my carrier LTE band (i tested the speed when I was on LTE and yes, it was a lot faster than H), so it should be some ROM/software related issue. I tried to reset APN setting, connecting to the 2 APN that my phone has, and still won't get LTE.
Any ideas of what could be causing this behavior? Thanks!

dial *#*#4636#*#* and service menu will appear. in phone info menu select network type 'LTE only' and check your signal strength. if it's low like 1 bar in status bar that's why it keeps switching back to HSPA.
I won't connect if I select LTE only, it just shows "no service". But I have good signal here in my house, as I used to have LTE when this was working fine.

maybe carrier signal problems? you should check LTE signal strength on other's phone and compare with yours when it's available at your house.
and you mentioned it was working with cm12.1, try with it again or maybe ur harware was defected

Ok, I'll try again with CM again, but it used to work some time with stock too. I think it shouldn't be a carrier or signal related problem, but I'll try using my sim card in other phone, and try again with CM, I'll report back here after I test.
It seems to be caused because of the APN. I inserted another sim card to my phone and it added a new APN, and it changed the Network Type in phone info to "LTE/GSM Auto (PRL)" and now it works! Thanks for the idea!
But I still find it strange that it connected in CM from the start, hahaha

I have a rooted ONE XL that I have tried many ROMs with including the stock rom.
I have also relocked the bootloader and loaded the latest RUU on the phone to try and correct this issue.
What happens is the phone works perfectly until I get into an LTE area.
The phone connects to LTE and I see the signal bars register, however the data stops working on the phone completely.
The only way I can get data connection again is to make a phone call and force it down to HSPA.
Any idea on how to fix this short of changing the APN so I can't connect to LTE would be very helpful.
Thanks!
Hi,
I have an HTC One XL from AT&T.
It is SIM UNLOCKED and BOOTLOADER UNLOCKED. It is running CleanROM.
The problem is that my phone looses 3G connectivity and the only way to recover it it's rebooting the phone. The 3G still shows but there is no activity and the apps try to connect until they say "network problem".
I don't use it on AT&T as I live overseas. I do not have LTE so my phone is set to "WCDMA preferred"
I tried with other roms (CyanogenMOD 10, MIUI, etc.) and with almost every RADIO (flashing them with TRWP Recovery and wiping cache/dalvik after).
When 3G/HDSPA works, internet works really fast... but then it "disconnects" and everything sucks.
What do you recommend?
Best Regards.
Not a fix, but have you tried turning airplane mode on/off rather than restarting your phone?
I used to get this problem constantly with stock. Once I installed Viper, I haven't had a problem since. Don't know enough about radios to tell you if a new rom flashes a different radio though.
Try going into recovery, and wiping cache and Dalvik. Similar to area51avenger, I've had this same problem on a couple ROMs, and wiping cache and Dalvik fixed it. Might not work for everyone, but it can't hurt.
My friend i aleady tried that without any good result.

do you have the right APN? if you dont have the correct apn for the LTE network then it will drop connection whenever it searches for one. Maybe just run on WCDMA/gsm instead of WCDMA/GSM/LTE. It solved the problem for me on rogers here in Canada on cleanROM
I have the right APN.
Here we dont have LTE so I run the phone in WCDMA/GSM only... no LTE
Problem persist.
Also replace the phone IS NOT AN OPTION

Is there something like fast dormacy?
Please, need help.
I've had the same experience on both rooted and non-rooted HOX's with various ROMs. I have concluded that it has nothing to do with the ROMs and more to do with the HOX itself but only when not on LTE. Before LTE was turned on in metro Detroit I had this problem constantly. I use the Airplane mode trick to resolve the issue in most cases. Now when I'm in an LTE coverage area my data is very reliable but as soon as I'm somewhere that doesn't have it (rural areas or inside with a poor signal) that ugly problem returns. It sucks because it's clearly a widespread issue that may never get resolved and I don't know who to hate at this point.
i have to reboot in order for the 4g data to work again but it only stays on for about a minute and then it stops working again. everything else on the phone works ( text, voice, wifi etc...) I read somewhere that flashing different radios might fix it but im not sure about that. anyone else experience this and have a work around? i am currently on baseband i535VRLG1
Thanks In advance
i called Verizon and they said it may be the sim card thats damaged. if that were the case wouldnt voice and text fail as well?

I'm having the same issues recently. I've always gotten a 4G signal at my house (albeit not the strongest one) but lately, my phone will not hold on to the connection. When coming off of wifi, my phone will not acquire a data connection at all most of the time. I can still send/receive texts and calls but there is no 4G or 3G icon, no MMS, and no data. I have to toggle the radios on/off, or change from CDMA/LTE to Global (or GSM) and back, put in airplane mode, or restart.....there is no guarantee any one of those steps will work. Sometimes I have to do it repeatedly until I get my data connection back but it is only temporary.
I'm on the i535VRBMF1 baseband and updated to the ML1 modem to try and resolve but to no avail. I have replaced my sim card (as I initially though that was the issue) but it has not helped either.
The only thing I can think of is that my PRL may have been updated (it is currently 15310) and it's causing issues with the towers in my area.
I just got back from Hawaii and was also in San Diego for a few days and had absolutely no issues. It seems to only be an issue now when I'm at my house which makes me think it is something VZW network related and nothing to do with my phone per say. It's really driving me nuts though.
BTW, I'm in Southern California (Irvine).
I seemed to have fixed the issue by reverting the baseband back to vrlf2. I had to switch from global to 4g/LTE because I vegan to inch roaming charges lol. Verizon credited me and no dropped 4g signal. So I'm happy.

What ROM are you running? I'm just curious what the implications are of running an older baseband (from the ICS days) on a newer ROM/Kernel.
I'm running cleanrom8.1 core edition. Slightly buggy but tolerable.
I was finally able to somewhat resolve my issue so I thought I'd post in case anyone else is experiencing something similar.
By using a few different apps and testing techniques, I was finally able to deduce that my issue had to do with EHRDP hand-off with the towers in the immediate vinicity to my house. I'm not sure what VZW did to them lately but it doesn't appear to be a problem in other locations so it seems like the issue is on their end (and not something to do with my phone).
In any case, it seems that when my 4G connection is weak and EHRDP is detected, it is dropping the connection entirely instead of handing if off to 3G (EVDO). The connection is also never transferred back when a 4G signal is detected either until I reset the connection where there is a moderate 4G signal.
Again, this only seems to be an issue when connected to the towers near my house and doesn't occur when traveling abroad.
To fix this, I have disabled EHRDP by doing the following:
1) Open the dialer and type *#97328640#
2) Select "[2] CDMA"
3) Select "[2] Data"
4) Select "[7] eHRPD e/disable"
5) Select "[2] Disable(*)"
6) Reboot the phone
Now my phone switches between EVDO revA. for 3G (using the native protocols) and LTE rather than relying on the broken eHRDP protocols. This workaround will have to suffice until VZW fixes stuff in my area but at least I don't miss MMS messages anymore.
Hope this helps anyone running into similar situations.
I did some searching around and found a couple of pages with ideas but they have not worked so far. Here's the deal, my son's said his Nexus 5 was getting pretty bad reception so I took a look at it. After some toggling of the network settings I discovered that it will only connect to LTE, not to HSPA(+) or Edge. Where we are, we have somewhat weak LTE (2 of the three towers have been "modernized" with LTE and band 2 HSPA+, one has not and it's slightly closer to us). We have a Cell-Fi repeater so we get strong HSPA+ signal in our house. His sim works fine in a Nexus 4 with the hybrid radio getting Edge, HSPA+ and LTE. My nano sim with adapter that works fine in the Nexus 4 exhibits the same problems in the Nexus 5. I tried formatting the cache from the stock recovery menu and am now looking to do a factory reset since I never did oem unlock this phone so I can't just flash a radio to test.
My gut tells me it's hardware so I have my son rebuilding his phone environment on the Nexus 4 so that we can do a factory reset to see if that helps and I'll unlock it at that point. If it doesn't fix it, I've already started the conversation with the play store. My question is, anyone else seen anything like this? Anything else I should try out?

if lte is in your area, and not a perfect signal, itll still choose to connect to lte by default. if you lose your lte connection, then itll connect to H or 3G, and so on. if you do not want it to connect to lte, go to the phones main settings, mobile networks, then change the preferred network type from lte to 3G. or you can dial *#*#4636#*#*, chose phone info, then change the network type to wcdma preferred.

Thanks for the reply, I understand all that. I don't know if I asked clearly enough or not but the problem we are seeing here is that this particular phone can only connect to LTE which is weak inside my house. So, when it tries to switch over, it just won't connect. I also tried to make a call which will switch to HSPA+ and that too fails. Going to the info menu and selecting WCDMA preferred nets me a phone that won't connect, selecting GSM results in the same. LTE only or GSM/LTE works only if it picks up an LTE signal. Ditto for selecting 2G, 3G or LTE preferred in the Mobile Networks menu. I've also reset the APN's, confirmed that the settings match my MotoX, etc and still no joy.
Just looking for ideas that someone might have that I can try before blowing away all my son's data on a factory reset or, if that fails, hardware replacement.

ok, i understand now. i didnt know that it wasnt connecting to h or 3G when it should. to me it sounds like a device ready to get an rma. i mean there is a hardware mod that could possibly fix it, but its not worth the trouble. if you can get an rma, get an rma.

Yea, according to the nice person I spoke to at the play store, I should indeed qualify for an RMA and I should find out in the next day or so. I purchased the phone new in box from someone and they were able to find the phone and they are now attributing the phone to me.
I am curious about the hardware mod though. Is this just for Edge/HSPA or is it for signal in general? If it's signal in general then I'm not sure I'd want to try it since this phone used to work just fine.

Using Ting (MVNO using Sprint network CDMA) ever since I upgraded from CM11 to CM12 I get intermittent loss of cell signal at times. Every couple of minutes, regardless of where I am or how strong my signal is I will lose all cellular signal for about 20 seconds, including voice and data, and then it will pop back up just like it was before.
I've tried downgrading to two different radios and nothing seems to make any difference. Like I said before this problem didn't occur until I did a clean flash of CM12.. everything was fine with CM11.
I've even wiped/reinstalled CM12 with the same issues.
Does anyone have a solution for this yet?
I recommend keeping your radios updated to LRX22C. Where did you get your ROM from?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Free mobile app
Direct from cyanogenmod
From what I've gathered, it seems that sprint networks being unreliable on cm12 has been an existing problem that may get fixed in the future.

Well I fixed it.. sort of. I had tried this before but I didn't reboot the phone.
SETTINGS / MOBILE NETWORK SETTINGS/ PREFERRED NETWORK TYPE
I switched it from LTE to 3G. Looks like I might not be getting LTE coverage but it's hard to tell as LTE is sketchy at best at home and at work... and in either case I'm on Wi-fi anyway. Not a huge deal.
I had tried this before but I didn't reboot the phone after making the change. As long as I leave it on 3G my cell signal never drops. If I switch it to LTE or GLOBAL then it will randomly drop as described above.
I'll retest things after each CM12 update I install see if we get one that works!

Were you able to find a solution for this that you could share?
Honestly no..I just keep it on 3G and there are no issues.
I tried about a week ago switching back to LTE but the display never showed LTE and I definitely wasn't getting LTE speeds and the signal drop returned.
TBH LTE coverage is pretty spotty in my area and I don't use a lot of data outside of Wi-Fi anyway so it's pretty much a non issue for me.
When a CM12 snapshot is released I'll probably try again.
I should add that I dirty flash the latest nightly almost every morning. When a snapshot comes out I'll wipe and clean flash things and go from there.
Update... about a month ago I did a full wipe, going back to stock, did the network updates, etc and all was well.
Then I did a fresh install of cm12.1 and every thing worked great.. Lte and all!
A couple days later I dirty flashed a nightly and got an exclamation point and no data (Wi-Fi is fine). I did find the sprint fix flash which allows me to do the network updates again from cm (had to switch to 1X for it to work) but that only yielded a temporary fix.
I did however find a workaround. If I go to my apn settings menu and change a setting on my ting (sprint mvno I use) entry then change it back and save then BINGO! I have Lte again...
That is... Until I get handed off to another tower.. Then I have to do the workaround again.
