SOLVED Galaxy S4 SGH-I337M Lollipop Black Screen - General Topics

Allo,
I have solved the black screen problem on my S4. My S4 runs for weeks without problems. I used to have the black screen freexe about 1-2 a day.
I found the solution by luck.
Since I updated to Lollipop 5.0.1 I started to have the blackscreen. So I decided to re-load the image from my computer and revert back to Kitkat. That lead to fixing the back screen problem.
April 2015
1) Downloaded the virgin mobile SGH-I337M kitkat latest and the Lollipop 5.0.1 from sammobile.
2) Downloaded ODIN 3.04 as recommende here
3) Flashed kitkat to device and got a fail at the end
4) Rooted the phone
5) Flashed kitkat to device and got a fail at the end
6) Got fed up and loaded the 5.0.1 and expected not resolution
The phone ran for weeks without any black screen.
September or October 2015 (don't remember exactly) got a Samsung update (Not a lollipop, it remained 5.0.1) and the black screen returned 1-2 per day.
1) Downloaded the virgin mobile SGH-I337M Lollipop 5.0.1 from sammobile with the latest samsung update (same image as on the phone).
2) Did a straight cable download using Odin without rooting
3) Black screen problem remained, no change
4) Flashed kitkat to device and got a fail at the end
5) Rooted the phone
6) Flashed kitkat to device and got a fail at the end
7) Loaded the 5.0.1 to the phone and expected not resolution
8) Again the phone is running without problems for week
If you try this on your phone and it works please post and indicate the device and SW version.
If someone understands what happens to make this bug fix work, please post.
Hope this info can help others such that I can give back and contribute.

Note 10.1 Firmware upgrade encountered an issue

Hi
I've flashed firmwares before on Galaxy mini, Galaxy grand prime and Note 10.1 GT-N8000
So I'm a little oriented with the flashing process and even the rooting process of my devices
I've used Sammobile many months ago to get the 4.4.2 firmware that was non-official, and it worked fine for many months & I have rooted my note a couple of months ago and it was working fine, but the problem was that the charging time usually exceeded 8 hours
and that was too long as I was starting to use my note longer than usual lately
So I tried 2 days ago to downgrade to an official 4.1.2 ROM but The process Failed and I got that message:
"Firmware upgrade encountered an issue
Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again"
I tried recovery mode, but I haven't backed up my firmware on Kies before, so it didn't work for me as Kies didn't find any backed-up firmwares on my laptop
I tried firmware upgrade & initializing.. I entered my model and S/N, but I got a message that this model doesn't support initializing!
I've windows 10, and I've tried Odin 3.07, 3.09, 3.10, 3.11
I removed my external memory card, stopped the antivirus, changed the USB port and tried flashing many other firmware versions, some are 4.1.2 and the others are 4.4.2, some are official and others aren't, including the non-official version that I think I've used before
But all my trials failed to get my note working again! and I'm always stuck with this message and can't even turn my note off!
Please, can anyone help me in this problem?
IT FINALLY WORKED
I tried flashing for the zillion time.. it worked with the non official ROM
and when it opened I found all my apps there! without the rooting app
and that was In no time, so it's not due to backup
Now I want to flash an official one, or downgrade to the official 4.1.2, what can I do to avoid facing the same problem again?

Note 5 on TotalWireless won't update past PD4?

I bought a refurbished Galaxy Note 5 and have used it on TotalWireless for a few days before I noticed the Note 5 should be on BPF4. When I received the phone it was already on BPD4, my wife's phone upgraded from a 5.1.1 firmware and went through the full chain to BPF4 previously. Will an ODIN flash back to a 5.1.1 firmware allow my phone to pass where it is stuck currently?
Thanks

Why don't you just download BPF4 and flash via odin? I'd make sure you didn't receive a fake phone before you flash anything as long as the phones real you can just flash it yourself in odin and setup the network to use the right settings from Totalwireless. The only reason I mentioned a fake phone is because someone else wanted to do the same thing and ended up with a phone that he couldn't find the firmware for because it was fake and after trying to flash Verizon firmware which failed he had no way to go back!
It's definitely a genuine Note 5. I was trying to locate the PF4 firmware to flash via ODIN, but the only ones I could find were several 5.1.1 firmwares and the PD4 firmware I was already on, do you have a link to a full PF4 firmware? Must have had research failure or something, haha. I finally decided to try the Verizon Upgrade Assistant and it was able to update me to the latest PF4 firmware no problem.
Download Samsung Smart Switch for PC.
You won't get OTA updates unless you have an active Verizon sim card.
Using Smart Switch to update is much easier than Odin.
I'll try Smartswitch when the next OTA comes out. I was actually surprised how well the Verizon software worked to fix the issue. In the past I always ignored the software install portion of USB connection. Guess it serves a purpose now.

Canadian S6 - Trying to Downgrade

Hi all,
I have an S6 that I am trying to downgrade. It is on 6.0.1 but reboots randomly multiple times a day. I downloaded 5.0.2 stock firmware for Bell and tried to flash via Odin but receive the following error:
sw rev. check fail device 4 binary 1
Not 100% sure what it means. I think the device 4 means that it has been updated and can't be reverted to a lower firmware. If I am wrong, hopefully someone can correct me or provide some guidance. I have already tried clearing the cache and using smart switch to reload the os.
Model is G920W8.
Yeah, I'm on the same boat. I would love an expert to correct me if I'm wrong, but I think once you are past a certain revision of Marshmallow there's no turning back and you basically have to stick with your firmware or move on to a newer one.
You can't downgrade 5.0.2 or 5.1.1 anymore.
Damn, I thought so. If anyone else has ever resolved the random reboot I would love to hear about it. It's such a pain.
