Stock Sidekick 4G "ThemeChooser" Themes

At the bottom of this post you will find a download link to a zip containing all the themes that the sidekick came with.
Some people may be on a custom ROM like Smooth Maximus and dont have the themes, or just removed them and want them back.
This is just so no one has to go through the trouble of downloading a stock ROM the searching through all the system apps to find the themes themselves . So i've decided to package em together for ya.
This is not flashable so you have to unzip them and use a root file manager (root explorer, super manager ect.) and push them to System/app. You Need to be rooted or it wont push the apps.

I have them from a system dump... but just putting them in system apps doesn't seem to make them showup... very odd. Ill upload them when I get on the computer tomorrow maybe you'll figure it out

Anyone figure out how to customize these themes? (especially the colors schemes)
I can easily change the wallpaper with Android wallpaper options, but the color schemes can be difficult to read with some color combos (like black text on dark green background).

Hey i pulled these directly from ayoteddy's stock deodexed rom. All you have to do is push them to your system apps directory and restart your phone. Tested on my phone. I didnt do anything. I just pulled the files and uploaded them for you after i made sure they installed. Thank ayoteddy as i used his stock deodexed to get the files.

As for customizing im not sure but i think you can use apk tools to decompile edit and recompile the apk just make sure you have the sidekicks framework installed into apk tools also you may need to sign it im not sure i havent tried it yet

Ah I'm sorry. Uhm what color scheme would you like because I can try modding them for you. I'm not sure if it will work or not but ill try. I used to be in the same boat. In fact im still learning android, but have themed apk files before. So thats in the realm of my knowledge.

Glad people are still using these. Would anybody be interested in me modding these apks to make a custom set. We lack a purple one and an orange one. I might start this project in the near future so check the themes section from time to time

[MOD] Skip music tracks with Volume buttons (JB 4.1.2)

Finally!! After thousands of boot loops I got it working. There are several .diff's for implementing this mod in android.policy.jar, but what I forgot: this works only on a completely deodexed ROM and mine was only half deodexed. It is possible to run deodexed and odexed system apk's side by side, but you must not(!) run a deodexed framework with odexed apk's - this was my learning curve
Summary: If you are on a fully deodexed 4.1.2 JB ROM (I am on 91.2.26001 Retail.en.EU), simply copy the android.policy.jar to /system/framework, set the permissions to rw-r--r-- and reboot.
MAKE A NANDROID BACKUP BEFORE, just in case!!
If you want to incorporate this into your ROM (Omar?), I attached the needed smali's too.
If you are on an odexed ROM, here is a short help to deodex yourself:

Installed it right away! It works awesomely well on my phone I'm using PIlama 0.6.
If you keep on modding the stock rom like this we won't need to port CM. At least I'm not missing it

Too many.
There are some tutorials here at XDA, just search. The thing is, you have to adapt the variables, that's a little bit research though.
Easiest way would be: Extract original android.policy.jar and compare it to my mod, then you'll see the differences.

The only problem that has to samsung and wanted to carry the Razr HD XT925 and compare when there is a big difference in the lines.

Just try it: Take your own PhoneWindowManager.smali and compare it to my mod, that was the way I did it in addition to read several different How-To's.

Hummm, I saw on Link2SD and the system Apps are all odexed. Then no go for me I think.

i privately mod - theme all of my android devices. both the s4 and the optimus g pro lags like hell as we all know. we can either blame hardware or the software. im going with the software. the permanent fix will be custom roms and kernels but until then i was digging through the systemUI and framework-res and i think i found the source of some of the lag.
it's in the framework-res / animations folder. in here you can see standard animation xml's but also touchwiz ones that were added by samsung for all of the new gimmicky features and gestures. so i performed an experiment. i opened up my framework and added aosp animations from a cm10.1 rom, added the res back to the apk and pushed it to my device. BOOM, lag gone for the most part and smoother animations. before this i tried everything including deodexing, debloating and turning off all features.
i just thought i post my findings for the devs and anyone who feels like getting their hands a bit dirty.

here is the modded framework-res. push via adb to system/framework and restart your device. this is a stock, unmodded framework other than what i replaced with the animations. this is a deodexed apk, so don't try on any odexed rom. THIS IS FOR AT&T ONLY!

i don't think what im seeing is a placebo either, the window animation and close animations are really smooth now.

Sounds great. I have added a couple systemui.apk's but the jerky hesitation at times is really agrevating.

Yes you must be deodexed. Been testing, the lag is much better but not totally gone. I'm going to do more searching tomorrow.

You can't Odin a deodexed ROM. And there's no flashing. You just deodex your current ROM, then copy and paste his framework-res.apk into /system/framework/.

Wish I had better news, I tried it and got stuck at the at&t boot screen. I had a deodexed rom. Not sure what went wrong using odin to go back to stock for now. Thanks for the mod. I just had to be the one to try it...lol...:crying:

Were you on the newest ota? And are you sure you were deodexed? If anybody else reports it I'll take it down. Weird as it pushed and works fine on my device.

Yeah it sounds like he didn't set the permissions on the .apk before booting.
For anyone else who wants to try this, copy the framework-res.apk to your /sdcard (if you're using adb and the framework-res.apk is on your C:\ drive, use the following adb command without the quotes: "adb push C:\framework-res.apk /sdcard") and then use the following adb commands:

mount -o remount,rw /system
mv /system/framework/framework-res.apk /system/framework/framework-res.apk.bak
cp /sdcard/framework-res.apk /system/framework
chmod 644 /system/framework/framework-res.apk
rm data/dalvik-cache/*
reboot
This saves a copy of your original framework-res.apk as "framework-res.apk.bak", in the event that it goes wrong it's just a simple adb command away to revert back to your old version.
I added the animations from the OP's mod to the framework that I use, which comes from DocBarebones' theme add-on for the i9505/i9500 S4 variant. Everything has a dark/gray tint, as I always like to black out my phone as much as possible.
Here is the file, just push it using the same method(s) above. Works great for me!

What would be nice is a list of the files in the services.jar.out smali that contain the line
Ljava/lang/String;->clear()V
instead of needing to go through every one of them... too time consuming imho

i found all of them but can't recompile always gives error messages

You can search folder with notepad+ guys is all automatic.
On aurora works ok, but I can't install apps, I need to push them manually and that's not cool at all. For now I ll be without it and when the great devs fix this will try again.

If your referring to V4A instead of a different addon by the Viper Rom community then just d/l either of the OGD Deodexed Roms we have and V4A works perfect and if you have a car with a system hold onto your windows, it sounds pretty sweet! Like wake the neighborhood with a factory Ford Shaker 1000 system have my phone hooked up with a aux cable running V4A with the Super Driver and Advanced Controls tuned. It will get you in trouble if you go by a cop and the town has noise ordinance.

Here you go, an empty zip ready for you to add your edited apk's. Just edit the updater-script to whatever you want it to say. Tested so far with apps, priv-apps and framework. Enjoy
Note: if you have already converted the apk's images to png's, please share as it will save all of us a lot of time.

Has been a few years. I quit making roms and themes about two years ago. Well roms first, then the themes. When Samsung came out with the QMG images, that was it. I had enough of jumping thru loops to make a theme for the Note 4. Love the phone, hated the OS for the phone.
So bud, are you do any theming for the Note 5. Maybe you can give me a hand. I am a little confused on what can and can not be done. The reason I was able to do a basic theme was the framework-res and systemui was already converted. I read the previous app used to convert the images to png's doesn't work for this phone. So let me know if you know how to convert the qmg's to png's, or anyone here that can help.

Yeah ... I haven't been too involved myself. Some a few tweaks on the S4. I have been planning to develop some custom boot images (my specialty ... haha). Really just looking at cleaning things up first. I know rlmiller and tdunham are both pretty involved with this device. They might be able to provide some insight.

I'm still using the app to convert the qmg files.... just now there are .9 in qmg that need to be fixed

No problem I tried yesterday on the settings apk and had no problem with any png's. So the conversion still works for the Note 5. That's what I get for reading one post and taking that as fact. I use VTS for decompiling and reconpiling and had no problems with the framework-res, systemui and the systems apk's. But when I try to recompile a couple of other's. Like the Samsung keyboard even without changes they give a Java error. I have updated both apktooland smali files to the latest. But that didn't help, still get the same error. I applied for Samsung Theme it twice and was declined both times. Something about I didn't provide enough information about the themes I have already done. Not sure what they are looking for. I provided linked images to some 20 themes and roms I have done.... Maybe that's it, they don't people who know how to hack their phone.

Really just looking at cleaning things up first. I know rlmiller and tdunham are both pretty involved with this device. They might be able to provide some insight.

Iam used to make themes to Note3 (check my signature for links), and now i moved to Note5 (N920C International), can you guide to me the QMG converter app.

In the search field, type picconv. Should be the 1st link. Beware V2.1 converts the 9.qmg to regular .PNG images. If u want to edit .9. images u will need to add the black lines. Hopefully the developer will get this fixed soon.
As far as Samsung goes, I think if u provide proof of themes u have make. And the link is a post on XDA u are blacklisted. Samsung straight out told me in a phone conversation that they do not want us rooting our phones. Yeah, they want to control the themes available and make money doing it.

Yes this is exactly what he meant. I have used it and can confirm it works great on the N5

steps 2/3 arer meant to be done on a pc the device is attached to
