Let me start by saying that DOZE had been working great for me since the upgrade. My usage patterns haven't changed, yet DOZE seems to have stopped working..
Usage pattern:
- Phone is only used during work hours (Mon - Friday 730am - 400pm) and is at 100% charged by 400pm.
- ALL other times phone is sitting tucked away in drawer and not being used.
Up until this past weekend DOZE has been working great. I'd grab my phone at 730am and it would have 93+ % battery remaining to start my day.
This past Sunday I grabbed my phone (after sitting in the drawer since Friday at 400pm) only to be surprised to see the battery low message and battery being at 13%. I put it on the charger and let it fully charge. I then rebooted the phone to rule out anything that may have messed things up. After using google maps for a bit I retired the phone around 400pm with about 85% batttery. Monday morning, 730 rolls around and I'm down to 53% battery @#$ I rebooted the phone again to try to rule out anything that could mess it up. Phone was at 100% again by 400pm and found it's way to the drawer until 730am the next morning only to be at 56% @#$$#@. I also computed the total amount of mAh used by all listed apps under battery and it only amounted to 363mAh. That's approx. 10% of the battery capacity, not 44% @#$
I'm not sure what the heck could have changed @#$#
- Under Battery Optimation the only app NOT optimized is : Google Play Services
- Under Battery - Phone Idle shows 17 hours idle
Again, my usage patterns and settings have not changed prior to this starting to happen so I'm a bit at a loss here.
Since DOZE is completely autonomous and quite new I was wondering if there might be anyway to troubleshoot this ?
Here is a pic of my Battery Usage screen :
Same with me. Worked fine for a couple of weeks(where battery drain was about 3-4% in the night) but now battery drains by 25-30% every night.
Another day, same behaviour.
This time just prior to unplugging at 400pm and retiring to drawer for the night I swiped away all recent apps and rebooted the phone
The picture below shows all but twos apps/services.
They are Cell Standby @ 2% and Google Services @ 1%.
And that's it @#$
I think the culprit to my issue lies in WIFI ....
http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/general/guys-call-wifi-battery-drain-6-0-t3219870
Disabling WIFI seems to let my phone enter Doze mode w/o issue.

I have this phone for two months, stock rom, not rooted, don't use mobile internet, only wi-fi, not always on, I would say a moderate usage.
The last week I am experiencing big battery problems, it drains in half a day. Nothing new installed in the last week that could be a problem, I think I had only few app updates from the market, but am not sure if the time is the same as the beginning of battery problems.
The first time I have charged the battery in the evening, disconected the charger after the light turned green, it was about 10pm, the next morning at 6 am the battery was at 4%?! The second time the battery was charged from 15% to 65% (I had no time to full carge), from 4pm to 10 pm it went down to 3% again.
Last night I made a full charge, disconected the charger at 6am this morning, now at 8 am the battery is at 75%, I don't understand...
I don't let the apps sync automatically and I use wifi only, everything is setup not to drain the battery, no problems till the last few days...I have installed GO launcer a month ago but I don't think it could be a problem, it worked all well till now.
Any thoughts or suggestions what to do?
When you go to settings, about phone, battery usage, what does the statistic point out as the biggest user? You can also download battery monitor widget to see what is usung what.
Goodluck
It says display 58%, cell standby 15%, voice calls 14% (3 voice calls), phone idle 13% (for 4 hours after disconnecting the charger), this last one, phone idle, seems to much considering others?
Anyway, I have powered off the phone, pulled the battery out and put it back in, seems the situation is better, I will see later on.
Now I remember that few days ago the phone got frozen and I had to pull the battery out to restart it because I couldn't restart it regularly. I think it is after that the battery draining problem has begun, is it possible?
So the other night I charged my phone to 100%, the LED was green indicating it had come to a full charge. I unplugged the phone and left it on my night stand to see how it held it's charge over night. It was shocked in the morning when I woke up and found my battery had depleted drastically. It had gone from 100% to 47% over night. 53% loss while it was sitting on my night stand and I was sleeping. My old iPhone 4 would only lose about 3 or 4 % over night. This seems ridiculous.
First thing I did was jump into my battery usage screen to see what's been killing my phone over night. This was from roughly 9:30pm till 6am.
I'm running ROM Xi40 126.
It's pretty atrocious with the battery life. I'll have it fully charged, and then unplug it and within about 10 minutes I'm already down to 97%. It's loosing 1% every 5 - 8 minutes and I'm not doing anything with it. Just sitting in my pocket or on my desk.
What could be causing this? I'm going to try a different ROM and see if that helps.
Download betterbatterystats to get a view of what apps may be causing wake locks. What are your sync options? Check Facebook sync, and the actual app settings. Facebook my default refreshes a live feed and every hour, its a real drain. I'm on r123 Xi40 and my battery life has been pretty good.
I've set global sync options to once a day as opposed to hourly or something.
I don't have any widgets open except for a 1x4 clock / weather widget on my home screen.
I flashed CleanROM 4.5 RC1 Lite and it appears to be a lot better so far. Only lost 5% in 30 minutes with screen on and downloading stuff over WiFi and LTE. I'm charging it to 100% right now and will be out for the afternoon, 8'ish hours. I'll see how the battery lasts.
Changing to CleanROM 4.5 seems to have solved the issue. Been unplugged for nearly 3 hours, an hour of which was streaming music from slacker over LTE, and I've only lost 10%.
My guess is there was an application running in the background that got killed with you flashed CR 4.5. Happy you got it resolved though!
Download SmartSync Disabler
So what you wanna do is use SmartSync Disabler. So download it, enable it, reboot. Then you should be good to go. This is a bug where your WiFi and Data connection is turned off and on randomly, and intermittently throughout the night. This causes for the drain and heat issues maybe.
Hi everyone, I was going to wait until tomorrow to post a question but something weird happened just now that changed the situation. I recently got a replacement, so I decided to root, run xposed and greenify. I was testing out the battery and it was doing fairly well. I got almost 2 days with 3 hours of SoT. This morning after unplugging I noticed Android System (or Android OS) was taking a significant chunk of %. However, it didn't seem as though my battery was draining a lot. I tried rebooting and charghing back upto 100% and it still kept happening. At times it was Android System and at other times it was Android OS.
I decided to download BBS since from reading the forums that seems to be a way to determine the culprit. At first BBS was showing a wake lock ratio of about 85% wake lock and 15% deep sleep. This was having the phone on for about an hour. It showed it being kept awake for about 40 min or so. The battery wasn't draining incredibly fast, but the stock battery history chart was showing that it was taking about 50% of the battery. I decided to just let it be and see how it does throughout the day so if it continues I can just post the log here. After a few hours it seemed to have gone away. While it was still showing that Android OS was taking about 30%, the wake lock/deep sleep was getting better where at this point after 10 hours it's about 6 hr 45 min of deep sleep, 3h 12m of wake lock with 1 hour and 2 min of SoT. The battery is at 71%. So, there doesn't seem to be an extreme drain. However, what was really strange was I was just looking though GravityBox settings (only added day to status bar clock, not sure if it was after that) and the battery usage just changed on the stock battery, and GSam, where Android OS is showing that it took 73% of the battery and even the screen which was on for an hour only took 6%.
Has anyone encountered this? I can post the log from the first hour and the log from now if anyone is willing to look at it. Thanks!
I'm rooted, with TWRP, xposed module with gravity box, greenify, and app oppsX. Those are my only mods.
derp. misread.
I came here because I have a severe battery drain issue. Sometimes I can fix the issue by rebooting the phone and then not using it. This issue has been coming and going I think since android 10 but it may have occurred in android 9. I had this issue a few months ago and the issue stopped on its own. To workaround the issue I was rebooting the phone when I noticed the severe drain and then tried to avoid using the phone.
For example I charged my phone (pixel 1 XL) before I went to sleep. I charged it to about 85% at 11pm. I took it off charge and went to sleep. At 530am I woke and checked the phone to check the time. The battery was at 15% and in power saver mode.. Usually I get 1 day usage (6am to 6pm, with streaming music to my headphones at the gym and messaging throughout the day) and get home with 65% battery. This issue has come back again now that I am traveling abroad.
I reset the phone to factory yesterday and only installed webex teams and whatsapp. The issue persisted yesterday. At lunch, we spent around half an hour eating and the phone was screen off and on the table and the phone dropped from 65% to 55%. I decided to remove webex teams and reboot the phone. The battery remained at 53% for approx 2 hours. I thought eurika, webex teams is the culprit. But unfortunately last night the same battery drain issue occurred and I had to charge the phone again at 5am.
I dont know that the issue is occurring until it is occurring.
The battery usage shows no usage by apps during this issue, and same when I show all device usage - for example I'll have say webex teams using 1% and screen using 1% but the device has dropped 60% of battery and there is no indication of where.
I dont mind to install a custom rom but I have not done any custom installs on this phone at all at this point.
Also I never used NFC until a few months ago for the banking app which I used to have. I just realised NFC was on yesterday and I've just switched it off. I just wont know if this helps until later today when the battery is dropping quickly. Although it just dropped 2% while typing this so I dont think it has helped. I just turned on data saver and battery saver and will see.
I am at a bit of a loss - has anyone else had this problem and found the culprit or a fix?
Update - battery saver and data saver does not stop the battery drain. 2% drop in 20 minutes with phone on the desk with screen off.
I decided to give up, re-install webex teams and go for breakfast; while leaving nfc off, battery saver on and data saver on. At breakfast, the battery did not drop at all. Uptime is 9 hours 50 minutes (cant remember if I rebooted before breakfast) So almost 10 hours later and I have been using the phone over wifi on occasions and a few phone calls and whatsapp. The battery level is now 55% so it appears that the issue has gone away at the moment.
It's driving me nuts as I cannot work out a trigger. It almost seems like something within the android system is doing something and it's being hidden from the systems battery usage calculation. 3rd party apps also do not show any battery drain but the battery drains. If the battery was faulty then I would expect this issue to not get fixed after reboot (or even by itself). I have reset the phone 2 or 3 times now and the issue is still present afterwards.
Tried to google for answers and didnt really find anything apart from one guy saying his phone was draining and getting hot at the same time. Mine does not get hot.
I suspected malware or something like that but I dont see how it can be possible that malware is there after factory reset.
OK I think I have made some progress - although can't be sure because this issue does go away and then comes back! However, this time I am refusing to reboot my phone so I can work on it. I am flying back tomorrow at 4am and so I need battery to last as long as possible. I have installed all of my important apps that I need to use. Given the issue is there when I have only 2 apps, the issue cannot be related to the apps I removed so I installed all of the important ones.
What I have done now:
1. turned off dark mode
2. opened the app permissions for the "google" app and changed the location permission from "always" to "only while using the app".
GPS Location is always off unless I am using google maps anyway but it did not stop battery drain previously!
As soon as I changed the permission app for point 2 above, the severe battery drain stopped. Take a look at the screenshot. You can see the severe drain on the left of the graph. Then the very severe drain was when I Was actively using the phone during the issue. Then I charged the phone. Then I changed the permission and you can see the graph have a flat horizontal line which is showing next to zero battery drain! I do not have battery saver or data saver turned on anymore. And I have been using the phone a fair amount.
Touch wood and fingers crossed. May be this will also stop google from emailing me every month with a google map breadcrumb trail of where I have been going.
EDIT - uptime of the phone is 28 hours and counting. Although you can see the charging points in the screenshot.
I have the same issue. My battery was just recently replaced too. I'm going to try the suggestions in your latter posts and see if anything improves.
According to the battery usage screen, about 15% of the battery has been used. And yet, it's in freefall. At 34% I got a low battery warning saying the battery would only last another three hours, even though it was dropping about 1% a minute.
Just randomly happened today. Left it unplugged overnight with Sleep as Android running, woke up to about 70% battery, started browsing on Chrome and Talon for Twitter, and 15 minutes later I had 20% battery. Plugged it in, got it back up to 75%, had to go out. Felt it get hot, checked, saw it was still dropping dramatically. Turned it off, left it to cool, turned it back on, and it continued dropping.
I had it turned off for a while to cool down after I'd plugged it in, as well.
Battery Usage does list Sleep as using 22% battery, but that's since the last full charge so I assume includes what it did overnight, which jives with having a percentage in the 70s when I awoke. Talon, Chrome, Facebook, TiBu, and a couple of other apps are listed as using 1-2% of the battery. That's it.
WTF is going on?

I think the battery might need to be replaced...after I charged my phone to 100% and then reboot, it will show 69% or 70% after the reboot -_-|. Also when the battery % drops down below 50%, my phone could switch off anytime - and then when I switch it on again, the battery is like 1%. I am using this phone as a backup just to receive messages so I don't mind it too much. If you use it as a main phone maybe it is time to upgrade to a newer model...the battery on regular Pixels were not so good even when new...
When the phone is off charge it to 100% then use it until it dies completly, then try to start it couple of times(it should just show a battery low icon or turn off while booting). Then charge it to 100% again while turned off.
This should pretty much reset the electronics in the phone. If it still does it replace the battery.
P.S.: Also look at the phone from the sides to see if you notice any glass poping (just in case the battery has started to expand)
