I have a one plus one that is rooted and twrp v2.8.5.1 installed
In about phone it says I'm running 12.1-YOG4PAS1NO
The phone started telling me I have a system upgrade
I have been round the install update booting to twrp path twice
So I downloaded the .....1NO to ...2QL ota
Boot into TWRP and try to install the zip file and it says it can't do it as this device has one plus/bacon/A0001.44.2/KVT49L/XNPH2SR: User/release keys
What can I do?

I've come across this today (my OPO was rooted and I had TWRP installed), I was able to install the OTA via returning the OPO back to an unrooted stock build. You can easily do this via getting the 'Fastboot' zipped version of your current .....1NO build.
Once you have this, you only need to fastboot flash the following: - boot.img, recovery.img and system.img
After flashing just these three images, yes you'll loose root but you'll be able to OTA update to the ......2QL build via the normal phone method - hten if you want, you could then reflash a TWRP recovery and re-install a supersu.zip
One thing I forgot to add, which maybe helpful to others as it took me a moment to realise, both boot.img and recovery.img flash without issue, but due to it's size to flash the large system.img you'll probably need to brake it down into flashable chunks, notice the change in fastboot commands: -
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot -S 512M flash system system.img

OTAs can only be flashed through stock recovery..applicable to all devices
Hello,
on the same subject, I am looking for explanations on how to create twrp flashable files for ota updates. Do you know where I could find any resources?
Thx
I had the same issue while installing the incremental update (I got root and TWRP); I solved it simply installing the signed zip of ...2QL version which was pulled out yesterday afternoon. My only concern was about root that could be wipe away with the new installation, so I directly installed SuperSU via zip. Everything works fine till now

I rooted my phone temporarily with pie root for motorola devices:-
http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/orig-development/root-4-4-x-pie-motorola-devices-t2771623
and on some post, it was written that we could flash custom recoveries with it using rashr. I flashed TWRP using rashr but is showed an error "hab check failed for recovery failed to validate recovery image", I ignored for that time but now, I can't use my device because of it. I downloaded an ota update for 4.4.4 and pressed install now, my phone shut down and then it tried to get into recovery and again this error, I selected Normal Powerup but, it would, after one or two minutes, again shut down to install the update. I wanted to know if there is a way to stop it and can I get stock recovery from anywhere to solve it??

you can get the right stock image of your phone here (non-GPE):
http://sbf.droid-developers.org/phone.php?device=14
simply open the zip and look for the recovery.img file
then just put your device in bootloader mode and via
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
you can get your stock recovery and hopefully then your 4.4.4 update will work
Then you are lucky, that your phone is still not upgraded to 4.4.4.
Just download the factory image from the location as mentionend before and restore.
Now my personal advice:
Do not upgrade to 4.4.4. There is still no Factory image out there.
I am in that situation that my Phone does not boot and i have to reflash.
It is not possible to Downgrade to older Versions for the moment. At least not a clean solution.
So actually i and some others need a solution to make a phone out of their brick.
Hope the factory image will come quick, or at least a proper solution to Downgrade.

Hello everyone.
I had a problem flashing TWRP on my Google Nexus 5, or better the problem comes when I try to enter the recovery.
I followed this pattern from stock android 6.0.1 with august security patch:
1) unlock bootloader
2) downloaded lastest TWRP (3.0.2 hammerhead) recovery from the official website
3) flash it with "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img"
Until this point everything's alright but then when I unplug my phone from the laptop and click on enter recovery something strange happens.
I can see the TWRP boot image but as soon as I go in I see tons of errors related to "cannot mount ..." and some partitions name like /data, /cache, and then starts the bootloop without let me any chance to do something. Sorry but I can't see every error beacuse this happen too fast.
Any idea on what is going on?
I've tried the TWRP 3.0.1 but is the same shuold I go down or maybe I have to change it beacuse of compatibily issues with the monthly patches?
Thank you for your help, I hope I explained my problem clearly.
After unlocking the bootloader, phone wipe all data? Did you reboot after unlocking bootloader?

No I've just unlocked and then tryied to flash the recovery without wipe.
But data is already wiped by unlocking the bootloader isn't it?
Anyway thanks for your reply as soon as I can I'll try what you have written.
Yes, the data should be automatically wiped. Try TWRP 2.87. If the phone still doesn't boot into TWRP, reflash stock recovery, flash userdata.img, immediately boot into stock recovery using the button combo without rebooting, perform a factory wipe, reboot into fastboot, and flash TWRP again.

Thank you so much for telling me to flash the 2.8.7, i've choosen the 2.8.7.1 without success (it did't flash i don't know why) but then after another wipe all I've flashed the 2.8.7.0 and it seems to work.
The only thing I would like to ask now is: I'm going to flash superSU and elementalX over stock AOSP (I don't want custom ROM for now) and can this recovery cause problem because of it is not the last update?
Thank you again for the answer!
I have not tried 2.87 with Elemental X. The only way to determine whether it will work would be to try it. I recommend creating a nandroid backup before flashing Elemental so you can restore if something goes wrong.
TWRP Restore problem
Hi, I have an issue with the resotre of TWRP...
Here's what I did:
-Downloaded the latest OTA image https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/ota
-Downloaded latest SuperSU http://download.chainfire.eu/supersu-stable
-Downloaded latest ElementalX http://elementalx.org/devices/nexus-5/
-reboot to TWRP
Choose OTA, then SuperSU, then ElementalX
Luunch the restore..
And my screen is "blocked" from 5 hours on Install Zip 1 of 3.
"blocked" means doesn't move to the Zip2 but the clock is moving... the screen is locking itself after few seconds and I am able to unlock it...
Any idea how to exit properly ?
I have rebooted...deleted all my music... (I think that the issue may come from insufficient disk space) and relaunched...
Will see...

Hi, I've have successfully installed the last OTA update but not with zip file, instead I downloaded the factory image and flashed with fastboot boot.img and system.img (also vendor.img if you have one) then rebooted into TWRP and installed the lastest ElementalX and SuperSU.
I'm not sure but I think that factory image zip file are not installable via recovery but only with the flash-all that comes with them. This script use fastboot to flash everything you need of the factory image
You can find this procedure on the ElementalX website, here is the link hope it can help out: http://elementalx.org/how-to-install-android-monthly-security-updates/
Finally... I installed CM13 and ElementalX... in some minutes ...
I suppose the the problem was in my zip file...

Did you fastboot boot into TWRP, then flash twrp-pixel-installer-sailfish-3.0.2-0-RC1.zip? Were you stock prior?
Installed img through pc then installed the zip file with twrp. I found a article here stating I need to flash stock ing to get back to normal

Yes, you are not supposed to install twrp, just boot into it. If you install it by mistake, you go back, flash stock boot.img, and do it again.
This is from Dees_Troy's post located here
https://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel/development/twrp-alpha1-pixel-devices-t3500314
Installation:
If you already have TWRP installed: Download the latest zip and install the zip using TWRP.
If you do not already have TWRP installed: Download both the img and the zip. Copy the zip to your device. You will need to have fastboot binaries and the correct drivers installed. Power off your device completely. Hold volume down and turn on the device. Your device should now be in the bootloader. Connect the device to your PC. Open a command window and run the following command from the proper location:
fastboot boot path/to/twrp.img
This will temporarily boot TWRP on your device. If you are using a lockscreen pin/pattern/password and do not get prompted to enter your passord, reboot to the bootloader and try again. Go to install and browse to the zip and install the zip. If you are currently rooted with SuperSU, you will need to reflash the stock boot image before installing TWRP. After installing the stock boot image, follow the instructions for installing TWRP. Once TWRP is installed, grab the very latest SuperSU released on 2015-11-15 or later and install SuperSU.
If you accidently flash TWRP to your device using fastboot instead of temporarily booting the image, you will need to download the latest factory image for your device and reflash the boot image.
@Tulsadiver First off, thanks for the post on this. I installed TWRP to slot A by accident and am finding myself in this same predicament (though I found that I can boot by switching to slot B). I found another post online that mentioned what you commented on, specifically:

Having previously downloaded Oreo 8.1 and setup root, I had loaded into TWRP, went to install, selected the TWRP zip, and installed (as per what you had suggested and what I read earlier). This is what led me to the current problem, making me realize that I'm missing something in the description. Now, I likely don't need to flash TWRP (I don't develop and used flashfire to do upgrades) but my last upgrade left me rootless and I felt having it installed would make life a little easier. I was hoping to ask for a clarification on the TWRP install.

Things have changed with 8.1. you have to root with magisk. From slot b you cannot fastboot flash boot_a boot.img?
I believe the instructions now are to boot to TWRP, install TWRP pixel installer zip, then flash Magisk zip
Here is where TWRP files are here

Yes, the zip file that is located where the flash-all.bat is. Unzip it and flash the boot.img.
I bought a Pixel 2 on swappa. It had different bootloader's on slot a and slot b. I couldn't flash updates when on slot a. I thought I was hosed but from slot b I could flash to slot a so now I'm fine. Slot a had a preview bootloader.
Hi im new here and i need help :^;
Have a huawei mate 9 (dual sim, unlocked bootloader) and accidentally wiped the system partition through twrp (custom for huawei mate 9 through xda so not all functions work)
tried:
- fastboot flashing system.img, boot.img and revovery.img from update.zip (MHA-L29C432B176) from "techora"
--- this ended up as a boot loop
- flashing the update.zip through twrp but i got an error message for unknown command (probably because update.zip is not made for twrp)
- using dload/UPDATE.APP using ext sd card after flashing recovery.img but nothing happened, cant access internal storage so cant move the dload folder there
- hisuite system recovery but rejected my phone because it is unlocked ... tried to relock phone but still got rejected
please help ;^;
Thanks
Got it working but not optimal
how i got it working with fastboot and twrp:
flashed romaur1.5 along with system.img from a MHA-L29C636XXX full update zip
the boot img from that was a bit messed so flashed KangVIP custom rom boot.img (dont flash the whole rom there tons of chinese bloat) ---- i probably didnt need to flash the romaur, just system.img and boot.img
that fixed everthing kinda. the os booted fine but there was a messed keyboard (google voice keyboard that didnt work) so i skipped everthing and installed a google keyboard apk, then went into Settings to redo the startup things i didnt do. The other problem is that my phone is permenantly rooted with SuperSU, cant uninstall or update through the app :/ factory resetting didnt remove the root (after flashing the stock recovery.img from update.app)
Thats all..

SuperSU is in boot.img so you'd have to restore that to get rid of root.
You could use this: https://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-9/how-to/guide-mate-9-flash-update-package-t3593108
To get back to your old version or get to B190. Backing up /data is recommended if you're decrypted, or backup using titanium or similar. (that's if you want to unlock bootloader again after it's done, since it does a factory reset.)
Or you could try flashing system.img directly in twrp, to the /system partition. Youd have to flash your boot.img for B176 for this though.

Hello, I had my OP7P rooted on android 11, but after updating to 11.0.6.1.GM21AA, I just couldn't get root to work.
I downloaded the OxygenOS 11.0.6.1.GM21AA from oneplus.com, extracted the boot.img, downloaded the new (supposedly with Android 11 support) TWRP (twrp-3.6.0_11-0-guacamole.img), booted to the TWRP, and installed root using the magisk APK, when I booted the phone had "Android Intellegnce stopped working" all sort of apps stopped working as well and some also crashed when I tried to open them, I flashed the original boot image and after some research I saw that using Magisk Canary build might help, so I tried with it too and same result.
I tried installing root using Magisk.apk, I tried patching a boot image using Magisk (both versions) but to no avail.
Some notes:
-Using the Canary build actually rooted my phone unlike the normal Magisk, but with problems still.
-When trying to use TWRP's "Flash Current TWRP" option, it overwrite my boot image and when trying to boot to fastboot or system it booted to recovery instead.
I will be glad for any help because having an unrooted device sucks.
Thanks in advance and sorry for any grammar mistakes (English is not my first language)
May be the first thing I'd think of trying it to disable any/all Magisk module installed.
Then, with the full OTA ROM stored in the main storage directory of your device... Basically a dirty Flash using the same OOS version you are using now and that should save the wipe/reset...
OTA Flash that and do not reboot and in Magisk manager check to see if manager is able to install Magisk as in install after OTA (?). That should work and then reboot device then verify. Don't forget to re-enable and Magisk modules...
Hope that can and will point you into the right direction.
I've not bothered with TWRP since I installed it then the next OTA went back to stock recovery. So, might be worth skipping TWRP for root as is not required so far as I can tell ... But I also have a Windows computer set up to flash via adb command alternatively.
Edit:. Think I forgot to say that the OTA update changed my TWRP back to stock recovery... But that's easy enough it change if desired

Hello, thanks for the reply, I wanna get a few things straight before doing anything that have the potential to brick my phone.
1. My phone rn isn't rooted, so I cant uninstall or disable Magisk modules, I CAN root my device but it is very unstable and im not sure doing it is a good idea, maybe there's another way to disable them?
2. What do you mean by dirty flash? Using the device update section and selecting the official OOS version I downloaded from OnePlus.com?
1) may be forget about root for now as that's probably not the priority at this time. Getting a stable operating system is the priority. And skip TWRP (don't see the point of if being needed at this step either).
2) my best guess is that I've used oxygen updater from the play store to download the full update (not incremental update) that exactly matches the one you have installed now - or search here and find the match to download or used the OnePlus cite to get the file. Then once that is downloaded to your device - go to settings/system/system updates/local update and install and reboot. That's the dirty Flash as in don't wipe/reset your device either before/after the installation. I'm hoping that this method will clean up both the recovery and boot images to stock and hopefully restore stability to your device without the wipe/reset.
Hope that helps and restore the device stability without TWRP nor root.
Hi wugga3, thanks again for your time, unfortunately a stable device is not my problem, I have managed to make a stable boot image by downloading the OOS version from the Oneplus website and flashing the boot image after attempting to root my device unsuccessfully.
My problem right now is that my device isn't rooted and I can't manage to root it using the methods I mentioned above, I currently have an unrooted stable OOS version 11.0.6.1.GM21AA.

Here's an Orangefox prerooted OxygenOS 11 boot.img that works on 11 and 12. Just boot to fastboot, connect to a PC open a command prompt in the same directory and type..
fastboot flash boot boot-v9-root24.img...
Also it's easier to just flash both slots by this commands..
Fastboot flash boot_a boot-v9-root24.img and then fastboot flash boot_b boot-v9-root24.img...
I dual boot with this version of twrp and here's a solid boot img. You can flash it also in recovery or with "partition manager off play store. Check it out.
Fixed!
Thanks so much for the suggestions, which I might didn't fully consider in a rush...
The solution was to root my phone, reboot it all shaky and try to disable all Magisk modules (took me 2 tries because of the crashes and stuff), then flash again the original boot image, rebooting, creating a rooted boot.img using Magisk and flashing it.

First of all thanks for the help but I ended up fixing it in another way.
Second of all, not really related but do you know if I can use this recovery on OP7Pro A12 custom Rom? (and flash it)
