[Q] [D6643]How to downgrade from 23.4.A.1.232? - Xperia Z3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

How to downgrade from this version?? i commited an error on upgrading it via OTA, and, i lost my root, XZRecovery and all.. i do the search on Z3/general but cant find anything talking about D6643.. only for the other models.. can someone help me!? :/

If you really need to downgrade, Google the rom u want, just flash it, and you're done, its always there in Google

When you have root and recovery you NEVER do an ota update!
What you can try:
Flash rootable firmware as you had before with flashtool, download it via xperifirm. Then root and install recovery. After that install the rom you have been on before ota. When you do this all and never wipe data partition, you maybe keep your files and apps.
When flashing rootable ftf you must uncheck data wipe. Dalvik and cache can be wiped. Once i did this on my z1 and z3 and it worked. Should work for you too because the whole xperia plattform works mostly the same.

People i know haven't even unlocked their bootloader
But can't update?
me too, have the same problem.
I'll just flash the 4.4.4 EU image for my XT1032...
and I'll do the same thing for when lollipop comes around
Its look like you must reset factory then direct updating your firmware..
have you unroot and relocked your bootloader?
Try restoring to stock: Flash 4.4.3, go to stock recovery and try to make the update search, if this is not working do a clean flash (wipe cache+userdata) and try to update, some time ago i noticed that cannot update the firmware of my 4.4.2 because the cmw recovery, then wiped cache and intalled stock recovery and everything went fine
To receive OTA updates device should be only on stock recovery no cmw, no twrp. Try to install stock recovery with fresh stock rom, and remember to enable any disabled system apps (if any) like Motorola services, Motorola OTA, then only you will able to receive and install updates....
You need the stock recovery

[Q] Root BL M2 from 4.4.4 downgrading just the kernel?

I would love to achieve root without unlocking the BL. Like it is described in this post for the Z1.
The idea would be to flash the FTF for the (stock) JB kernel with Flashtool, apply Easyroot and then flash back the original kernel. At least on the Z1 it seems to work.
I would be willing to try, I just don't know how to get the FTF with the two kernels. Hopefully this shouldn't delete any data either and the root might stick with any future KitKat OTA updates. Does anyone know how to get a copy of the FTF for the D2303 JB and 18.3.1.C.0.21 kernels?

To get FTF for 2303 JB version, please look at the forum, maybe someone has posting FTF files for 4.3 android version.
For 18.3.1.C.0.21 kernel, you can obtain that from FTF 18.3.1.C.0.21, but only flash kernel. Don't wipe data and exlude anything except Kernel in flashtool while flashing.
Maybe you should try XperiFirm for download FTF files.

Ok, thanks. But all JB links I've found are dead. Still is it actually possible with Flashtool to just flash the kernel(s) from the whole ROM without wiping anything? That would be great.
My issue right now is that I can't find any active link to the JB ROM. Also I nearly finished my monthly Internet traffic quota already. And I don't have a Windows PC either (I use OSX). So if anyone with the ROMs and the right skills could make the kernel only FTFs I would really appreciate it.

Actually i have found one 4.3 FTF firmware. It's for D2303 and i have flashed only jb kernel on 4.4.2 but it's not working. After Sony logo, phone only switches on/off so you can't get to bootanimation even. If you have any idea tell me im going to test it. What we need is patched 4.4.2 kernel which we are going to push su file and then flash our original kernel.
Well my model is D2306, and I did the following:
1 - Flash JB ftf, root with towelroot and install SuperSU from playstore (dont update binary)
2- Update through OTA (Update Center) to KK 4.4.2, and then to 4.4.4.
3- Through flashtool, apply root via towelroot again, after reboot, install SuperSU to /system.
And now I'm rooted with locked BL. Try yourself.

Yea, that's working for D2303 too, but is little boring. So everytime when you going to brick your phone while changing build.prop for example or something like that you have to repeat that process and with this idea (just changing the kernles) could be great because it takes less time and it's easier.

So how does it work? After downgrading to 4.3 it gets two OTAs? I think the trick updating with OTAs works because the OTAs must just do an incremental install. Still i can't afford to do it every time, due to my network cap restriction (I know. It feels like living in Neanderthal).

[Q] Do updating phone trough flashing firmware wipe it?

Hi
As my phone is rooted, I can't update phone through OTA.
There just came a new firmware on Sammobile (May 21) and I downloaded it. If I flash it, will my phone be wiped?
Also, if it do. Is there anything "to do" so I can get everything with it?
Thanks in advance
No, unless you select wipe in odin
Also you can flash a stock recovery in twrp and then unroot.

Clean install of new version of Android + Root?

As far as I know, upgrading from OTA or Zip via recovery its not so clean and could give some issues on the newer OS so is there any way to upgrading to 5.1.1 (or 6.0.1 in a future) at the cleanest way (Like flashtool or something like that) and having root at the same time?
You cannot use flashtool and retain root, flashtool can only uses stock system files from sony
If you use a .zip and recovery then you can do a clean install by wiping all caches first. A dirty install is called then when you do not wipe caches first.
you could always upgrade via OTA or through Sony Companion, then after upgrade is completed, perform a factory reset for "clean install"
If you use Sony PCCompanion to update you get a clean install (So no need for the factory reset), but it removes root. The OP wants to retain root.
