Changing boot animation - Huawei MediaPad X2

Does anyone know how to change the boot animation on the Mediapad X2?
I've tried putting the custom bootanimation.zip file in all these locations but no luck:
/system/media/
/system/app
/data/cust/media/
/data/local

It's in the Cust/Preinstalled/Public/Media folder in the root directory I believe. If not it's either the one in the cmcc or dualcu folder.

Thanks! I gave it a try and put the bootanimation.zip in all 3 folders but still no luck.

Did you change the permissions of the zip after you put it in the Data/Cust/Media folder? Don't forget we have an odd resolution for our X2's. The 16:10 aspect ratio makes it hard to find things like boot animations that scale properly.

I made it rw-r-r. I'll try changing the resolution now.

There is probably an XML file in one of the cust folders that has an option to disable the boot animation changing, and you probably have to find it and change it to a 1 or something lol.....I know, a real pain in the a**.

Cust/dualcu/cn/media/
don't forget to set your permissions

I put the zip file in all the media folders inside cust but not working at all. Do you have a working bootanimation.zip i can try? Maybe there's something wrong in my file

Use esexplorer to set permissions for bootanimation.zip -rw-r-r (owner, group, other can read - Owner can write - none can execute) for the file or it will not work.-
If you have moved the media directory set the permission for the directory to drwxr-xr-x(owner, group, other can read - Owner can write - owner, group, other can execute)
root directory
cust/dualcu/cn/media/bootanimation.zip

Power logo
I tried changing the powering on logo as well, but that was unsuccessful. I changed the file logo.bmp in four different places and I changed the permissions as well, but the Honor screen always came up anyhow.

If you are talking about changing the splash screen then load_OEM.mbn is the file. But I have tried to flash another. I did on my ascend mate 2 cc version, to get rid of the orange splash screen. But when I try on lollipop 5.1.1 or 5.0.1 , It has security protection that halts it on flash. Some one has to come up with another way than what I was using.

Thanks, but this didnt work even tried to change the permissions.

Hello,
i did it and it worked
1 . renamed bootanimation.zip to bootanimation.original in system/etc/media
2. copied bootanimation.zip in system/etc/media
3. Gave permissions rw-r--r--
Greetings,
Sebastian Neumann

Yea, it worked on KangVIP B209, but once I updated to B211 tried to do the same and can't get it to work again.

[Q] Stock boot animation + sound?

I flashed Humble 4.22 and I really don't like the animation. I would also like that robotic DRROID sound back. Does someone have the original files with instructions on how to change it?

First,
download the boot animation from here http://dl.dropbox.com/u/43901231/bootanimation.zip
and the bootup sound from http://dl.dropbox.com/u/43901231/PowerOn.wav and place them on your sd card.
Next, use root explorer and go to SYSTEM/media and rename the"bootanimation.zip" that is in there to "bootanimation.zip.bak" then copy the stock animation from your sd card to the system/media directory.
For the sound file, copy the "poweron.wav" from your sdcard to SYSTEM/etc using root explorer. Reboot and enjoy. =)

On ES file explorer the file in /system/bin/ is "bootanimation"
I can rename it to "bootanimation.bak"
Then I can paste your file, which shows up as "bootanimation.zip"
Will this work? I am afraid to reboot and try

May have been a bad download. Try downloading the one from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1247131
And trying again.
Well it looks like the bootanimation in that thread only contains a black frame. So unless you can find another source or someone who knows more than me replies you're stuck with the humble animation (Unless you want to just keep the black screen). Sorry.
To go back to the humble animation just delete the new bootanimation.zip from system/media and remove the .bak from the original humble animation.

[Q] Boot Animation doesn't change (with ES or TWRP)

Hi. I tried changing the boot up (and down) animation on my One S (S3). And it just doesn't seem to work. I don't get how. Here's all the things I did:
1. Copied the zip file to my phone, through USB. Renamed it to hTC_bootup_one.zip (as mentioned here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1637870). Then moved it to /system/customize/resource using ES file manager.
2. Copied it to my phone. Booted into TWRP recovery. Moved the file from there.
3. Tried replacing the bootanimation.zip and hTC_downanimation.zp with the same zip file.
All three times, it moved the file just fine. ES asked me everytime if I wanted to replace the original file. And after I replaced it, I went into the zip file with the archive viewer, and checked the files, and they were the right ones.
But every time I shut down and restart, I still get the original animation. What am I doing wrong? Is it the wrong location? Please, please help!
I'm running TrickDroid v5.0.0. Could this be the issue?
Finally, this is the file I'm trying to use: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1732732

Sorry, but what exactly do you mean? Permission for the zip file? Or permission to write onto the system folders? I've got the latter covered. I do have permission to write in the root folders. But if you're talking about permission for the zip file itself, I'm not sure how to do that!
Im talking about the step "- Set permissions to rw-r--r--"
Its done through a terminal or adb shell witrh the command 'chmod'. Im not sure what number rw-r--r-- translated to though, maybe 766 or something.

I just checked that. And yep, it's set to the correct permissions. rw-r-r. The odd thing is though, the original boot animations aren't even there anymore. Since I replaced them with the new one. So how it it even showing me the original one still? Am I doing this in the right location for the One S (S3)? /system/customize/resource?
No idea where its located actually... Try a search for the file and see if it pops up elsewhere (ES Fileexplorer can search, other explorers can probably too)

Right so I gave up, relocked, reflashed stock recovery, got the official JB update, unlocked, flashed TWRP, and viola, boot animation works. So basically the problem was with TrickDroid. I'm not sure what. But, there you go. Thanks anyway.

Disabling startup sound?

I want to get rid of the sound on the boot animation, but nothing seems to work.
My Maxx is rooted and I'm using Root Explorer.
I've replaced droidpu.ogg in the system media folder with a silent ogg file with the same name, but the OS restores the original on boot.
Bueller? Bueller?

Yep. The original file, which I renamed to a .bak extension, gets renamed to .ogg and my silent file disappears.

New PwnMyMoto exploit from Jcase will take care of this. Boot into Android with /system write access and remove the .ogg file.

Thanks. I was so busy playing with MotoRoot, Jcase's initial root method, that I didn't even notice it was already obsolete.
FWIW, I didn't delete the .ogg file, just changed the extension to .bak, in case there's an OTA upgrade in the future that requires me to restore
the original files.
I did a quick search for PwnMyMoto and initially hit the thread for the Moto X version, which won't run on the Droid family. Here's the link to the correct thread for anybody else who's interested.

Now that you have root, you can use any bootanimation you like though. The ATT one is just as bad as the Clara.

On the file you provided, I'm still getting the Clara one? I copied the original bootanimation and bootanimation.zip to my SD card and removed them from their directories, I copied the ones you provided and put them in and gave them the appropriate permissions. Not sure what I'm doing wrong?

Yeah. Strange. I tried with other custom boots and I couldn't get it to change there either. Obviously it's my method. I've tried ES File Explorer with root permissions and Root Explorer. I extracted the file you provided into 2 separate files (bootanimation and bootanimation.zip). I copied the originals and put them in a folder on my SD card.
For the file "bootanimation", I put it in root/system/bin with the permissions of rwxr-xr-x (octal code 0755).
For the file "bootanimation.zip", I put it in root/system/media with the permissons of rw-r--r-- (octal code 0644).
I've done it before but they were on much older phones so I'm betting there's something wrong with my method?
Yes, tried with new one even with boot factory it doesn't come out..mehh
Weird. I don't remember which image I got the files from. I'll post files from another image when I'm back at my laptop.
Don't know about the stock AT&T rom, but on the Claro version the bootanimation.zip is located in /cust/CLR_COM/poweron/

Changing Boot Animations

Anyone had any luck changing the boot animations? It has been a while since I've rooted and messed around with a phone, so I'm not up to date as to how/if this is possible nowadays.

You can goto root/product/etc/media and replace the bootanimation.zip to your desire boot animation. I have no problem in changing it. Make sure you change the permission to 644.

You can use ES file explorer. Select the file. From the "three dot", choose "Properties". Click on change permission. On the permission grid. Check "Owner", "Group", and "Other" for Read. Check "Owner" for Write. Uncheck all others. Click "OK" then click "Cancel". If you do it correctly you should see -rw-r-r- next to the file. Remember you need to get out of the editing mode by click on the back key a few time , get out of the media folder and back in before you can see the change.

I have no issues placing the file in the correct path and changing permission to 644. However when booting the screen is just black. Tried different files with same, or slightly different but equally disappointing, result.
So, no need for general instructions on how to do this but rather proof of concept.
Thank you.
