Anyone bought one before for use w/ the Eris? Looking to use this for audio to home stereo or car aux input but also not have to unplug it to use the phone. This way I can use it as hands free in the car. I've found this one for $10.99
http://www.daydeal.com/product.php?productid=41130&cat=3811
and this one for $9.99
http://www.thinksamsungcaptivate.com/samsung-captivate-wired-headsets-10329.html
but it says it's for the Samsung Captivate.
Any thoughts?
Thanks!
J
Cool find. Exactly what I have been looking for. I haven't used it or known anyone that has, but I'm probably going to buy it just to try it out. I'll report back with findings unless someone beats me to it.
I personally use a standard line (no mic) keep the phone on my lap and am able to have conversations as if I am wearing a blue tooth headset. Although if this is for your car stereo you do have to take into consideration of the stereo volume cause the conversation can echo back to the person that you are talking to

For some reason that doesn't work for me. I tried it but have to unplug the cord to talk. I can hear them just fine but they can't hear me (no music on either) That's why I started looking for this. I wonder if it's a setting on the phone somewhere...

Assuming that you didnt hit the mute button on the phone, there may be other factors that are giving people on the other end problems hearing you.
a) is your phone rooted? if so, what rom are you using?
Check with the dev who created the rom. Could be possible that you have a older rom version. One of the last updates that VZW pushed out to the eris was for the "sound bug" If you are using a older rom, it could be a possibility that the update was not "cooked" in cause of the date of the ROM. You will see more DEVs stating in their ROM descriptions that is has the recent updates. Using one of thoser ROM may fix that.
b) if your phone is not rooted then is all the updates installed? You can check by doing the following
menu - settings - about phone - system updates
c) depending on where your phone is placed, (ie my lap), seat belts, clothes or some thign else is blocking the phones microphone.
d )slim chance but any chance that the people who can not hear you are only eris users them selves? If yes then see a) and b)
I just use the phone itself as the microphone and the audio routes over the stereo. But of course we don't have laws against talking on the phone here.
Wow, nobody posts in this particular forum. Well, I was just thinking about this type of product today, and seeing it on the forum, I had to buy it.

Hey,
Does anyone know a way to boost the earpiece volume on the Nexus S, mine seems to be a bit low. I have have DSP manager and Voodo on my phone, but I haven't found any settings in those apps for the earpiece.
Thanks in advance for any help or tips,

I was just getting ready to an identical post - I'm really surprised that this has not been a more common post thus far -- maybe I'm getting old and my hearing is suffering but given the other phones that I've had lately this is the worst one for earpiece volume in the last couple of years.
I asked super about this on twitter said its gonna be in ver8

Isn't this an identical thread ? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1041712
As I stated there too, it could be a phone-related issue. Go to the store and tell them to give you another one. If that one is louder, then it was an issue with the previous phone. If it has the same issue, then ask for another one. This issue is present on many other phones, including Sony Ericsson's. Check Google for this.
Het everyone,
I tried lowering the volume in the middle of a call and then increasing it and it seems to fix the issue. Try it and let me know if it works for you.

Hey lambda30,
Thanks for the link, but that thread discusses headset volume not earpiece volume. DSP manager already supports boosting headset volume.

Oh, I didn't notice the difference between the threads, sorry, my bad. In that case, in my story, I had a problem with the earpiece, not the headset. So, I had a problem like yours, in this thread.
And no, lowering the volume in the middle of a call didn't change anything. The refund for the phone did, lol.
Hello everybody.
I've just found a strange problem with my phone's internal speaker. And I think the problem might be there since my purchase but I never realized it before.
The thing is, when I play a stereo track on my phone I can only hear ONE channel through the internal speaker. However my headset work fine at the same time.
I've even downloaded an app from Play store to test the speakers and it can only play the left channel.
Can someone please test this app on your phone?
(cannot post link due to low post count)
Search Google Play for the app named "Stereo Test" from Farrell and test it on your phone, then reply with your results
You might also have this weird problem!
Note:
I'm on stock firmware (2.3.5) never rooted/flashed anything.
I did tried factory reset before posting.
Your help is much appreciated!

Well, I think i didn't described the problem enough.
I know the speaker is mono, but it should play both channels merged.
For example:
If I play a stereo song having only music in left channel & vocals in right channel. I can only hear the music (no vocals), but if I plug my headset it plays fine.
Did you guys get it?
If you still don't understand what I'm talking about.
Just download that app, test your speaker and post your results here.
That will too help me alot.

You misunderstood him. the right channel is not played on the internal speaker or down mixed and not that he has 2 speakers.

Guys, Please also post others details like your firmware version, rooted or not, having custom roms, kernels etc. which will help us more...
here is a MP3 file to test
Hey guys,
I've made a mp3 file myself to make things simple (and to prove this problem to SSC)
If you play this file, you'll hear only one channel every 5 seconds (till 30sec)
i.e.
left channel will play from 0 to 5 seconds
next right channel plays from 5 to 10 sec
then again left channel plays from 10 to 15 sec (so on till 30 seconds)
After 30 seconds, you'll hear both channels simultaneously till the end.
Now, if I play this file I can hear the first 5 seconds then the speaker goes silent for 5 seconds then again I can hear for 5 seconds and so on...till 30 seconds.
After 30 seconds though, I can hear the song till the end.
In my case, I can only hear from left channel and that is the problem I was talking about.
I request you to try playing this file and reply here with your results.
(sorry for my bad English, I tried my best to describe myself)

What the OP is actually trying to say is that only a single channel (either left / right chanel) is audible from the mono speaker that we have in our handset. Normally both channels should be audible but without the stereo effect.
'whatever' I'll try to confirm the same just give me a sometime as I can't check it currently.
Cheers !

I don't understand how could it be gingerbread problem?
When lots of other people on gingerbread can hear the song without problem.
Btw, I went to SSC yesterday and although it was hard do prove the problem, I did it with the help of edited mp3 file.
But then the SSC guy asked me to leave my phone there for"ringer" replacement, which I refused.
But, when I was leaving SSC, I found another user having Galaxy R, and then we tested the mp3 file in it, which played correctly in his handset.
So it means there is something wrong with the hardware, right?
tried that

No. I had this problem and now don't without altering my hardware in any way.
Indian stock rom has this issue maybe. This could also be related to the music player you use.
Try a different player. Then try a different rom. ICS if you like but if you'd rather be on GB then find out what rom and kernel someone without this issue is using and flash that.
Good luck.

I tried different players before starting this thread.
In fact, I firstly noticed this problem while I was playing a song in "n7player"
Then I thought it might be player related problem and tried stock player, "Xplay music player" etc. but nothing helped.
I'm just waiting for the official release of ICS from Samsung India.
Thanks to all.

Just wondering but since I got my N5 and GF got Moto X on Monday, I can really tell the difference in speaker quality between the two and I use my phone to play music quite a bit. Has anyone just replaced the speaker in the phone? Is it even possible to purchase the tiny phone speakers separately?

Your best bet is a pair of external speakers IMO. Otherwise software mods can push the built-in a bit further.

I was afraid of that. After watching a few teardown videos, it doesn't look like just any other cell phone speaker would fit. Seems like a proprietary setup.
