[Q] Help - I bricked my phone with latest VZW update

Ok, I have a phone that I purchased used. When my S3 got the Jellybean update in December, I found out it had Clockwork Recovery Mod installed on it. It scared the hell out of me, but I went ahead with the update and it was fine. I am a complete newb to rooting and would never root my phone (I lack the skills). Today's update was a different story. This update appears to have broken my phone.This time, it won't even boot up. It just say "System software not authorized by Verizon Wireless has been found on your phone and go to the nearest Verizon Wireless Store for help." Any suggestions on how to fix this? Am I completely screwed? I have almost no knowledge of rooting, ODIN, etc.

It's not bricked.. you should be able to get in download mode and flash a stock firmware with Odin..

The weirdest thing just happened. Ok, I put in ODIN mode and pressed cancel. Then like 3 minutes later, it just started up all on its own. The update failed of course but the phone is working again. Weird. Was able to turn it off and restart.
I think I may trade this phone back into the same folks who sold it to me. I am clearly not cut out for this.

anyway if you still want to attempt to reset the phone to stock here is everything you should need to know :

it's really not as hard as it looks...just be aware there is always a chance that something could go wrong....just take your time, read, and only go ahead if you are fully confident and willing to accept the risks...
let us know how it went and don't hesitate to ask for help if you are still in doubt after reading the forum

I hate how I am average Joe with my root knowledge and I could fix your phone without thinking twice.
It surprises me you have an xda account and can not even root and unlock boot loader.

Installed New update, soft brick. Need an official signed rom

Anyone know of, or or have a link to a factory rom (hell any rom would do at this point) that I would be able to flash with the stock S3 recovery? Just trying to unbrick my phone. Story of what happened below:
I'm running stock 4.1.1 rooted touchwiz. I wake up this morning to a notification saying I had an update on my phone. Should have definitely waited but without thinking I went ahead and updated, which of course soft bricks? The phone. (boots up, and but hangs at the 4Glte, flash screen)normally this would be an easy fix, I could Odin back to stock or something but I'm down in Mississippi till Monday for training and do not have access to my pc.
I can access the factory recovery on the phone but that's it, have no clue where CWM is. I've tried flashing some backups but the factory recovery says that it's not a signed package or whatever. Anyone have any idea how I can get this sucker booted up and running using just an android tablet?
What about reflashing CWM so I can access my backups? Could I somehow flash CWM with factory recovery?:

first of all you can't flash anything on a stock recovery hence the need of a custom recovery. Second you don't accept the OTA when rooted as it can cause the exact issue that you have. Last there isn't a way to fix your problem via another android device that I know of.

U are going to need a pc and then u will need to download Odin http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1165122&d=1340993443 and u can get the official software from here on XDA http://hotfile.com/dl/182822657/9f6...WBLK3_381038_REV09_user_low_ship.tar.md5.html this is the 4.1.1 software. Here is a link to some official pre rooted software http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1984436 all of these software's you can install though Odin just look up here on XDA on how to use Odin and you will be fine once your phone is up and running again then you will need to get you a custom recovery. Then you can access your backups.

He was asking if he can use an android tablet to fix his phone. He doesn't have access to PC at least until Monday it says so in his post. I wasn't even criticizing you at all. Unless he knows someone with a PC in Mississippi or someone here knows how to use one android device to flash something on another android device he sadly will have to wait until he gets home to fix his phone. You didn't do anything to be criticized for trying to help all I did was point out the info that you missed without personally attacking you making it a critique.

hey all, I've been reading , downloading etc for hours trying to get back into my GS3.. i was as usual roaming around and saw a post that said something to this effect "do ya need to get back to stock?" and figured yes i need to so i jumped in with both feet ..i had my boot loader unlocked and for some reason locked the darned thing remembering it was locked before i rooted and then i get the screen that says ie: "System software not authorized ~~~~~~~~~~~~" with a yellow triangle over it with an "!" mark in it..
all would have been ok except the line up of the way to do things was kinda outta line.. after i had locked bootloader "which is the way the GS3 came" i thought. at any rate i am now where i said i was and if i can be helped it would be appreciated.. and no repeated.. next time i'll read their whole line up first.. so help me if ya can and i am game right now for about anything ..

[Completed] Currently panicking: root gone wrong

First of all, sorry if I am posting this in the wrong thread or wrong area.
I'm seriously depressed and deprived of sleep because I finally rooted my phone and everything went wrong.
Yeah, I fell in with that crowd. Shame on me, i know ,_,
Samsung Galaxy Note 3 SM-N900W8 is the victim. I downloaded CF AUTO ROOT HLTECAN HLTEUB SMN900W8 which, apparently, should have had no problem. Used Odin 3.07 on my laptop and the process was smooth and quick. Buuuut of course my phone got mostly wiped (no surprise here, totally worth the root). Along with that wipe came the rage of Google and Samsung.. don't know why but most apps just force close when I try to open them.
Long-story short I need to regain access to my Google account, my messages (so I can, you know, message my grandmother so she can pick me up at the university) and the ability to have a functional good phone.
I've learned my lesson, I'm leaving this rooting stuff to the more apt. However I need guidance on how to what I believe is called "flash" the system back into having all the permissions it used to have. Not sure what I'm talking about any more.
If it is possible to keep the root and somehow fix the problem (regain access to basic services such as messages and play store) that'd be nice. But really, I just wanna travel back in time and forget this ever happened so late at night that it's almost morning and my feelings are extra hurt.

Its ok just re install the official rom for ur device n900w8 after that just do a full for ur device through stock recovery then install twrp through odin in AP tap from this link

Thanks for the help! But I'm still a bit lost. I did as you suggested and found the 5.0 stock firmware, which I am currently downloading. I will open Odin, plug in my phone, put the firmware file in the AP slot and install it from the download screen on my phone. Same process as the rooting that failed earlier.
However, I don't get the TWRP part.

Is that step necessary, or is it just in case I want to try rooting my device again? Also, in the list you provided doesn't seem to be 5.0/lollipop for the phone. But then again, I'm not entirely sure how all that works.

Installing the Stock firmware did not work. Once the phone boots, everything stops working unexpectedly.
Oh well, I guess it's time to take it to a store ,_,

I am in utter shock. For some strange reason, factory reset worked and my phonne is ok. Not sure how... but it actually worked!

hi there i have a Samsung Galaxy core LTE phone model sm-g386w (canada version on rogers network)
OS is 4.4.2 kitkat
It is password protected with number 4-6 digits, not a pattern
It is not rooted and USB debugging is not enabled
I have tried everything such as Odin, external SD card flash, sdk tools recovery, shell commands, TWRP, CWM, DrFone, androidPatternLockMaster, etc. I believe my last option (unless i’ve missed something) is a Jtag. I however don’t possess the hardware or the knowledge of how to do this.
The phone has very valuable information and photos to me. Please, Lords of xda, assist me.

From what you were telling me in the other thread, I don't think you've been trying to boot into TWRP correctly, you should not be using any kind of boot menu to boot into TWRP. You should be holding volume up+home+power or volume up+power if you don't have a home button.
When you flashed TWRP, I'm assuming you used Odin to flash it? When you flashed it, did you make sure that the "autoreboot" option in Odin was UNCHECKED before you flashed it? When you flashed it, did you let it reboot itself? If so, you probably missed booting into TWRP and it reverted back to stock recovery. The way it works is, after flashing, if you don't properly boot into TWRP before booting to any other mode then it reverts back to stock recovery and you lose the TWRP that you flashed, it doesn't stick unless you boot directly into it after flashing, it can not be allowed to boot to any other mode until it has been booted into TWRP at least once first. Could this be what you were missing?
The way to be certain is to flash TWRP in Odin again but this time remove the check in the box beside the autoreboot option in Odin, then flash TWRP, after it flashes and you get the green PASS, disconnect the device, pull the battery out, replace the battery, hold volume up+home+power or volume up+power if you don't have a hardware key for home button. It should boot to TWRP.

ok so it would appear you were right, i hadn't tried removing the battery. That certainly altered the results slightly. However After a brief message indicating SuperSu was being installed and replacing filing or something... it said booting to stock in 10 seconds... and the the phone boots back to the same lockscreen

It doesn't boot completely into TWRP? It doesn't allow you to make any selections in TWRP?

That's usually the deal when you meet someone online from a other country. Best to leave foreigners alone as far as relationships go unless you meet them face to face FIRST and then start communicating, not finding each other on the Web and then meeting, that's usually a scammer, a catfish or someome so far out there that no one else wants them.
Well, if I had known the device was one one else's I could have helped you because it's against the rules to help anyone invade someone else's privacy like that, regardless of the reasons. It's against the law so we have to respect that.

S6 G920F stuck on boot logo

Not sure if my phone is a lost cause and only good as a door stop. My phone at one stage would only display a screen asking me to plug into smart switch to recover the phone so I tried that but smart switch wasn't happening. I downloaded the latest stock rom and installed it successfully via ODIN but now my phone will not get past the boot logo. I can only get into download mode, Any advise on if I can get my phone working again?

Bro, I've been there and this is why I made an account on xda to see if my s6 (G-920F) can be fixed in any way. Yesterday I had the same thing as you when I tried to re-flash the phone with its proper, latest stock-ROM (UK/EE Nougat 7.0). Given how it hadn't worked, the update attempt through Odin screaming a big "FAIL!" at me, I was afraid I had bricked it completely, so I proceeded to re-install TWRP with Odin by putting the phone in download mode. I wiped the phone again with TWRP and now I'm not sure what I have to do as I am stuck with the UK Nougat bootloader and nothing else on it.
Before this whole ordeal I had rooted the phone and unlocked the bootloader following some instructions from a Youtube video and successfully installed a nighty build of LineageOS, which was buggy as **** (couldn't answer calls, use data, use the camera and a ****ton of apps were just not working). Dumbly enough, I thought I could just remove it through a wipe and put something else back on it but oh was I wrong.
Right now I'd just want to get my phone back to working (like you), as I am out of a job and need to be able to take phone calls with a normal, working phone.
Sorry I couldn't be of much help, but yeah maybe a first step towards fixing it would be to flash TWRP recovery on it and through the terminal, see what bootloader version you have with the command "getprop ro.bootloader". At least you will know the version of the broken bootloader you're experiencing difficulties with and *hopefully* an actual dev from the forums will entertain themselves in trying to solve this noobish puzzle we've created for ourselves.
Seriously, if there is a dev ready to board this crazy adventure with us, please help.

I wish it was that simple for me mate, I cant access the recovery menu, I've tried flashing various recovery options but cant boot into any of them. I'm certain I could fix the phone if I could get to recovery. I'm now leaning towards it being a hardware fault with my phone. As you have access to recovery I think you may have more luck with your phone.

Oh dear.
Yeah it does sound like something got deeply ****ed up in this case. I had the luck to somehow get past the smart switch error when the phone died of low battery. As I attached it to the charger I quickly boot it into download mode before the screen would become a bootloop again and that's where I was able to reinstall the latest version of TWRP recovery. After that, I was able to flash a stock ROM of Nougat that didn't have a ****ed up bootloader like I had. It's the Netherlands stock-ROM. Not sure if you're from the US and the carrier would be wrong with that CSC, but it was a good bet for me. I got my phone back to working normally now.
Worst case scenario I'd say see if you have a phone repair shop nearby and ask them an opinion on what could be wrong. I'm just an amateur like you.
Still, I wish you the best of luck with it. Maybe there's still some hope. :/
