There is no such thing as the perfect BT headset, is there?

I have tried on A LOT of headsets now, and actually purchased three of them. Here are my notes, if anyone finds it useful, and I'd love to hear about other brands I haven't tried. (I only tested the first three with the phone, the others I just tried for fit.)
Jabra 250
Good: Excellent belt holder, the best of the bunch. Doubles as the charger. Stunningly good sound quality on my end unless you turn it up too loud.
Bad: Huge, uncomfortable. Some have complained of wind noise. Takes a lot of effort and time to put it on, especially while trying to answer a call.
Motorola HS810
Good: Small, light, sleek-looking, comfortable. Somewhat easier to put on, but still takes some fiddling. Good sound quality, loud.
Bad: Loose-fitting, so when you turn your head quickly while driving it tries to fall off. Huge, queer-looking belt case. Folding boom disables the headset, which saves battery, but you can't answer calls until about 4 seconds after you open the boom. Lousy for incoming calls if you're not already wearing it.
Gold Lantern G-Lite
Good: Extremely light (.3 ounce/10 grams), very small, sleek and attractive, comfortable. The tiniest unit of all, surprisingly half the size of the already-small Motorola. Fits in the ear with no over-the-ear holder so you can put it on instantly to answer a call. Excellent charging and battery status lights, the best of the group.
Bad: No belt carrying system at all. Does come with a neck lanyard, but hey, I got Bluetooth precisely so I wouldn't have cords dangling around my neck and body! Range is extremely short; you get plenty of noise at
Logitech
Good: Neat design that clips over the back of your ear quickly. Comfortable. Folding boom microphone.
Bad: Freakin' huge. The storage case/charger is monstrously large.
Plantronics
Good: Nothing
Bad: Expensive, ugly/boxy, uncomfortable, a major challenge to put on.
Bluetrek
Good: Cheap
Bad: Big, hard to put on, not particularly comfortable, ugly.
There were a number of others I checked out, and most sucked. I forgot to note all the brands and models. I'll do that when I go return the Motorola and Jabra units.

BT Headsets
I tried the Moto HS 810 and had the same issues, so switched to the SonyEricsson HBH 200.
This is a unit that clips onto your shirt or pocket and has an ear bud and mic on a short lead. I found it has a few nice features/advantages.
1. Built in mute (NB the XDA WM2003 mute does not work in BT headset mode)
2. The unit has an adjustable independent ring tone, which is helpful when you are away from the phone itself.
3. The ear bud and mic is on a standard plug, so you can pair it with other standard noise reducing headsets. Handy for the car...
4. The unit supports caller ID and call back, except the XDA BT stack is not that clever, at least not yet...
5. You don't look like Madonna or Brittany Spears when you wear it

I guess I don't understand the purpose of the wired BT headsets at all. I just want to get rid of the wires dangling around my neck. If I'm going to get rid of one wire only to replace it with another, very expensive wire...well, I'm sure you've found a reason for it, I just don't see it.

A couple of reasons really.
1. I do a lot of conference calls where i need the mute. The problem with most of the over the ear headsets is that they either do not support mute, or you cannot tell when they are muted or not. The HBH 200 has a small display, that lets you know that.
2. The ear bud and mic are on a wire thats only about 8 inches long, so it does get tangled at all like a normal direct wired headset.
3. The ear bud is much less obtrusive than the over the ear headsets.
4. I have my xda in the cradle a lot of the time, and like that the headset has an independent ringer.
I guess its just a matter of choice in the end and what features and style are important to you.

Well, it was an OEM unit, and I got it without any accesories for it, however I am using it with my SonyEricsson (RIP) HBH-65 case and actually it fits i there better that HBH himself
There are retail packages are availble now as well, but I have no idea what kind of case it comes with.

That looks very much like as remodelled bluetrek G2. Are you sure the innards are not the same?

The G2 is MUCH lighter than the Moto unit, so probably not. The G2 is about 12 grams, where the Moto is 20. The G-Lite is about 10 grams.
The retail package description of the moto unit doesn't mention any carrying case at all. Back to the same problem as the G-Lite. I'd pay $200 at this point for a good BT headset/case/charger system.

Darn, paint is falling off from the sides of my Jabra Bt250.
I'm not sure if its sweat that made the paint discolor and crackin' off.

Well, so much for the nice Jabra belt clip. I keep losing the headset, since the clip doesn't hold it tightly enough and my leg/jeans keep pushing the headset up when I sit down. Lukily I've always noticed it when it falls out.

My Hello II bt headset works flawlessly with my Oz O2 XDA II. No good with lots of ambient noise or wind but as far as working with the XDA II its great.
It's also light and comfortable to wear. Got to be the smallest one I could find. It's so small I have a habit of losing it.

Right now I'm using the HS820 headset most. The G-Lite is most comfortable and light, but has noise if you have the phone and headset on opposite sides of the body. Thus proving right everyone who ever said I was dense...

Switch BT back to phone?
Can someone help me on how to switch the BT (from headset HBH-65) back to phone? I don't have the headset symbol since I've installed the BT tools, plus I've done a couple of upgrades to the rom but am at 1.60 still but can't remember how to switch from the headset to phone only...like when I run out of battery power on headset for example...Thanks!

That looks a lot like the G-Lite, as far as how it goes in your ear. How does it sound? What's the range without any static? Does it work without static or dropouts if you have the phone on your belt and the headset on the opposite side of your head?

The Hello 2 doesn't give me any static. We've now bought three of them in the office. I can walk around the office and leave the XDA 2 on the desk. It goes through walls quite easily so I would say that I must be getting 10m range at the least. You know when you've gone too far because it starts to crackle.
As for through the body experience - sometimes I do get some crackle but sometimes I don't. Maybe it's doing it when the battery is draining - I haven't really looked into it.
I had an M3000 with my X70 which was great sound but left my ear feeling very warm and 'fat' if I wore it too long. I can wear this wall all day, even while having a light jog and the only side-effect is I look like the Borg!

That's how comfortable the G-Lite is, but it crackles (what I meant by static) very easily. Opposite side of the body will do it every time, and while it will work very far, it gets crackly at about 3 meters.
The HS820 is good without noise for probably close to the rated 10 meters, but is not as comfortable. Not terrible, but can't wear it literally all day like I can the G-Lite.
Does the Hello 2 use some sort of ear clip, or is it just in-the-ear? The G-Lite comes with a clip, but it's not needed. It will go in the ear and stay there.

Just received my BTH-808 headset.
I was suprised by its lightness and quality.
Works flawlessly with the MDAII.
It can be used with and without hook around the ear. It fits my ear without the hook
It is acompanied by a usb-charge-lead and 220V-usb-socket charger.
This headset is also sold under the Globalsat brand.
Bought it for approx 40 euros (incl shipping) from eBay

Bluetooth Stereo headset

I was thinking about getting Bluetooth Stereo headset for my Fuze
Plantronics Voyager 855 is the headset I was thinking about.
Anyone have any troubles with this or even have it?

I cant answer anything about that one, but I can tell you I love my Motorolla S9 for headphones, though I rarely use it for calls. I also have a BT8010 which is a fantastic headset, but when adding the stereo bud it feels wierd because you've got what feels like two headsets on instead of headphones.

I use the Motorola S705. I like it because I can use my own headphones. It also has FM radio, but we don't need that!

I have the 855 and have been using it with my Samsung P2 mp3 player and now my Fuze for quite awhile now. The battery life is pretty good, i've used it to snowboard in tahoe in cold temps and under those conditions i get about about 6 hours of continuous play time.
The audio quality is very good provided you can keep it in your ear. Depending on the shape / size of your ear the earhook may not be as effective as it should be, and the weight of the earpiece plus the fact that the earbuds are round instead of an ergonomic design means that its bound to try to point down then ultimately fall out of your ears.
The stereo hook fits in the headset part well, and works both ways fine as advertised. A word of caution though, when you're done listening, be sure to take the hook back out before putting it in your pocket or the pouch. The earhook's clip is pretty thin and i have snapped it clean off before while it was in my pocket, prompting a 15 dollar replacement stereo earhook.
The call quality though leaves a bit to be desired. People on the other end can hear background noise from my end, and i can hear my surroundings trough the earbuds pretty well also. I don't use it often for calls, but when I do it works alright or short calls. I actually keep a jawbone 2 in my car in case i expect to be on a long call.
Overall, aside from the fitment issues for me personally, i'm very satisfied with the 855. However if you think you may be i the market for a headphone style as opposed to the earbud style, I've heard good reviews for the Motorokr S305's, and i'm gonna pick up a pair soon to try them out as earbud headphones are sometimes really finicky about your ear in terms of fitment.

I'm finding the headphones included with the Samsung Galaxy S to be pretty useless. They do not stay in my ears and was wondering if anyone else had this problem? Could just be me with dodgy shaped ears but I've never had a problem with any other in-ear headphones. The build quality, sound quality and other aspects of the headphone seem great (although the in line controls seem very limited) so it's a shame that they don't stay in my ears.
If anyone knows of a good 3rd party alternative (possibly even a Bluetooth stereo set) then do reply back with details.

The earphones seem fine to me, the rubber bits are a little bigger than what im used to with inear earphones (normally i go with the small ones). However i find them to be fine for me, and the sound quality is great.

I am using another headphone instead of supplied one. Anyway original one can answer calls but can't control volume / music player etc. so a little disappointed and now looking for Stereo Bluetooth headset.

Buy a pack of Sennheiser in-ear replacement rubber thingo's. They go for around $5. Fits perfectly. Apart from that, the originals sound like crap but are good as freebies.

It's not just you. They pop out of my ears as well - very irritating indeed. I don't use the headphones often, but when I do I just use my iPhone or PSP ones (for listening to music, not calls etc).
/PS: Not sure if these work as an antenna for the FM radio thingy though...

Have you ever tried apple headphones worst I've ever tried doesn't fit well and you can hear everything around you for a device that you paid more than any other ..... Those are useless not the SGS ones that are good in-ear and they stay in my ears but yes I regret a bit that they don't have a previous-next song like the apple one (only good thing about those)

Only thing about the 903, dont use them for workouts if your sweating... I did, and they broke down in 2 days ....
Personaly I'm looking for 1 ear solutions that also can receive media output from SGS.

Maybe u'd like Jabra Stone.

Personally I am using a Samsung 3.5mm adapter, that has a multifunctional button (play/pause/take or end call) into which i plug my bang&olufsen earphones.. it's working great and the good part is that you can use whatever earphones you like

oh also i think the original sgs headphones suck donkeyballs... the sound quality is bad, it's inear (which is pretty unhygenic/unhealthy), cable is about 20cm too short for someone like me, the rubber things are not very firmly attached and i almost lost them like 10 times in 2 weeks..
thats why i threw away those things and got myself some nice headphones+that extension cord/remote control/whatever thingy

My SGS is practical unlistenable with good stereo headphones due to strong hiss in the background, especially when you pause a track, its less noticable on stock headphones,
I thought it was a general issue, but probably its only me phone/firmware..

Just bought Motorola HT-820 Stereo Bluetooth headset for 28$. Sound quality is average but full control over music player. Play/pause, next, fw, vol +- and telephone conversations. Great for outside during cold days.

think the stock samsung headphones are very disappointing in terms of fit in the ear. It seems they have only catered for an 'average' ear size.
I would have prefered ipod style headphones with a mic...i wear the samsungs and they just fall out embarrassingly when using them for hands free conversations.
I am currently using my old nokia 5800 headphones and mic although the mic isn't as sensitive enough so callers cant hear me as loud as they would like to.
Would generic ones work with this phone?

I'm just trying the phone with my Sennheiser HD 650,
to my surprise they rock, though are 300ohm headphones,
Galaxy s deserve some respect in HP amplifie area..

Yep I use the 903's and they're fantastic.
I do sometimes struggle with the in your ear style phones
but these are super comfy and to my ears they definitely
sound better than the factory ones.

Sony DR-BT21G
sport style bluetooth headset. Non in ear, so great for those of you who also have a small ear canal. No visible mike, but reception quality is still decent even when outdoor.
Music quality is acceptable. Some bass. Nowhere near a full headphone though.
11 hours of playback time. Now that's alot.

the last Plantronics stereo BT headset i purchased was a piece of junk it didn't have any remote features at all

In the Amazon reviews, they often say that the distance the Altec Lansing Backbeat 903 can cover is very short and that if you put your phone into your pocket the connection interrupts. Did you experience similar problems so far?

No, it works perfectly, tested on i9000 and sony w660.
If it doesn't work well on other devices blame their crappy BT antenna design.

I'm using a Nokia BH-500 headset adapter that produces great sound and additional volume and all its functions work as they should and the sound using it with my Shure EC2g's is nothing short of stunning. It has no stutter lag or drop outs at all just works as it should I've had my BH-500 for ages and got mine on E-Bay for just £35 if you can find one well worth the money IMO.

I can also vouch for the Nokia BH-503, quite bulky and not practical in the summer, but a good headset none the less.

I'm currently using the Backbeat 906 with the my SGS I9000 and I have to say I'm quite impressed by it. Despite the large size, it's actually quite light and very comfortable. Though I have to say it does take a bit of getting used to that the ear pieces don't actually sit snug in your ears like normal canal phones do. I keep worrying that the person sitting next to me can hear everything that I'm hearing!
That being said, I have no problems listening to music or calls with the phone in my back pocket. The bass, I find, is surprisingly good in the increased bass mode and is a pleasure to watch movies on.
Call quality is excellent on my end however, it's far from the best from the other end. But I guess this is to be expected given the design.
All up, for $47 US on ebay, I have to say I'm pretty darn happy with it

I had a motorola S9 which I used for a long time with my blackberry, and a little with my SGS before it died in a party related accident.
Anyway, it was a fine headset and served me well. Stayed well synched and lasted maybe 7-8 hours, although I only ever had reason to use it for that long between chargers on one or two occasions. It was comfy enough, although anyone with long hair (mines loooong) will get it perpetually caught in the headset because you have to wear it over the top of however you normally hair your hair.
Anyway, decent sound, decent connection. For best results, you need to carry your phone in a back pocket, although it'll hold connection anywhere except in a jeans front pocket or similar. Then it gets a little wobbly.
I got mine cheap so I never complained about its bad points, but its far from perfect, especially with its solid ear cups. To operate the controls you have to jab blindly and REALLY hard to make them work, which in turn jabs the ear cups into your ears painfully.
Personally, Im going to get myself a Jabra BT3030 for the upcoming year. Im all about ear buds, and the only reason I got a BT headset was because I wanted to try out the concept, and I hated having to untangle my headphone everytime i wanted to take my phone out . Anyone who has used one with the SGS, I'd love to hear how it shapes up.

I'm using Sony Ericsson MW600 in conjunction with Sony MDR-EX500SL N.U.D.E. EX Vertical In-Ear Aluminum Headphones (Short Cord). No issues relating to pairing or sound, the only thing is the Music ID and Caller ID doesn't works in MW600 unit, only showing the Call No.
Good sound in a good price.

I was looking for a good stereo headset that would have a long play time a good sound and not too expensive.
This one is perfect it costed me 50 euros and the it delivers a really good sound with strong basses (I listen a lot to drum and bass) and the earmuff allows a pretty good isolation (I'm using inear headphones since the one that looked like disposable earplug and I can't stand regular headphones since then but this headset isolation is really good)
After telling you how much I like this headset here's the only "issue" that I had with, some people I called with it where saying that they couldn't hear me perfectly BUT I found the solution on android

Ive been using the Philips SHB7110 and they work like a charm. I didn't want any extra cables and/or dongles so this was perfect.
Although they only last around 4,5-5h of continous music that is enough for me most days and the touch controls works like a charm! its soo simple to use and they fit perfectly in my ears.
So the only downside with these are the short batterylife. So i've perhaps look around for some pair with better batterylife if i would need it in the future.
But if you can live with a battery time that last that "long" its a really good BT headset, and the standby time is well over 24h so i'm not complaning there.

Can't get it to work today
SGS just refuse to send any sound to this headset today. I've had it working before. Now it pairs fine, telephone give bluetooth connected, under devices the 9xxbackbeat is shown complete with headphone icon.
However, starting the stock music player send sound to telephone speakers. Clicking the "menu" - "via bluetooth" doesnt do anything. The 9xxBacbBeat is listed as connected and thats it.
There is nothing as frustrating as expensive hardware not cooperating and not giving any reason or way to debug.

alright so i bought the backbeat 903 and they fit fine, they sound good enough with music, and the skip song, volume, pause, etc all work perfectly fine to my i9000m.
now the problem. i just tried a call with them and while the other person said i myself sounded fine. i had to ask them to repeat everything like 3 times before i could figure out a word they were saying. it was VERY distorted. all swishy underwater sounding. and this was with me right beside the phone.
any ideas? any settings i can tweak? as i said the music playing sounded perfectly fine, even with me walking quite a distance away from the phone. but in a call it was ridiculously bad. sigh.

i got the jabra bt3030. my only problem that the back, skip, and play buttons don't work as they should. back and skip work only when held and pressed down and ff/rew the song, doesn't actually go back to previous or skip the new one. the play/pause doesn't actually work at all.
dunno, maybe i'll drop it for the sony mw600 or samsung sbh650.

Bluetooth Headset

Looking for a Bluetooth headset that is good for an active lifestyle (running, lifting)...
so far the only one that i have found that seem ok are the motorola S9..
just tired of having my current headphones constantly fall out when im running or lifting.
any advice would be greatly appreciated.. thanks

I like my RocketFish RF-MAB2... Work great and battery life is waaayyyy better than the S9's

Whatever you do don't get the Sony V110. Battery life is abysmal and often when I use it the person I'm talking to complains they can hear themselves (bluetooth mic is picking up what they say).

I personally have the Blue Ant X5 stereo headphones... They're too awesome. Fantastic battery life, superb sound quality, right ear controls for volume, pause, answer, and next/previous track, and a usb Mic dongle if you're also gonna use it for calls. Found on occasion on ebay for $30-$50 when you're lucky, package include the headset, dongle, 2 batteries, and a bluetooth stereo adapter for sound systems etc.

netimes.com has a lot and their very high quality and very cheap also so you could order about 3 so you can try them out and fing the one that you like the most but they are from china

oh btw.... while riding a motorcycle, fits perfect with the helmet too

Nice.. thanks for the responses. I'll probably pick one of these up in the next month or two off amazon with those valued opinions gift cards ( I'm cheap haha)

I have the same. I love them. Been using them for a year. I get two days of 9 hour listening before I have to charge.

Since someone brought it up... Parrot SK4000 is awesome if you are riding a motorcycle...

i highly recommend the Jawbone icone headset, its perfect and has great battery life and also work well with all phones even this one

I just pciked up a Morotola HK210, and it's been great for me so far.
The thing that drew me to it was its size (smallest at the store I was at), as well as the fact that its color matches the Inspire.
Syncing was painless, call quality is well, about what I'd expect from a bluetooth headset.
I haven't had it for very long though, so I can't say much more about it.

Jawbone + custom earpiece = awesome
I use the Jawbone Era (sounds great with the phone and absolutely no static). To hold it in place, I had a custom fit earpiece made at Avery Sound. They send a mold you place in the appropriate ear, you send it back to them and in a week or two you get a rubber earpiece custom fitted to your ear and your Bluetooth device.
Yes, it is pricey - it runs about $80 for the earpiece. But I need nothing else - this just stays put in my ear and it is hands-down the most comfortable headset I have ever owned. I have been to the gym a number of times with it, and no issues whatsoever. Plus, with the sound directed into your ear canal better than the stock earpiece, I hear much better with this.

Jawbone icon headset.. its real awesome i highly recommend it

jawbone. only way to fly.
I would be careful though as the inspire has iffey bluetooth performance. Many times putting the phone in your pocket can make the audio break up. Had it happen on 4 different inspires on more headsets than I care to think about. I can even make it break up if I hold the phone in front of me and cover the side cover where the volume rocker is. The point being, dont go out and spend a ton of cash only to be disappointed in the performance. I use my bluetooth every day with a jvc head unit in the car, but it was unusable with the headset as I always put my phone in my pocket

so im not the only one who things the bluetooth on this phone is oddly bad... I thought it was just my imagination

I recently got a Jawbone Icon Thinker and like it so far. It is shorter than the older models and fits securely in my ear. The battery life isn't the best but it works well for me.

I've got several bluetooth headsets (I keep losing them and buying a new one and then finding them again). Here are three I can find right now and one I have no idea where it is:
Samsung WEP 870 - This is a really good performer. It seems to have optimal range, sounds good, has A2DP and the volume rocker has both up and down. Micro SD charging slot so you don't have to use a special charger.
Samsung HM 1000. This is a decent performer, the range doesn't seem as good as it might be but it's reasonable. The volume rocker has both up and down. Micro SD charging slot. It does NOT have A2DP so it's my "backup" for just phone calls.
Jabra Extreme2. This is a great performer. It has optimal range, sounds great, has A2DP and a volume rocker with up and down. Micro SD charging slot. Right now this is my favorite.
Plantronics Savor M1100. I can't find this one right now<G>. A nice unit, has reasonable range, sounds good, has A2DP and a micro SD charging slot. However, the volume rocker only goes one direction so you have to go by increments to the maximum level then to the lowest level to change it. It does have a pretty good voice command recognition feature.
All of these have various "voice command" or other features that I never use. The Savor voice command feature was particularly easy to use though, it had to be to get me to use that feature.
As far as staying in your ear goes, I find that's more dependent on the form of the gel that goes into your ear. I like the ones with a loop above and below the ear, they fit in well and don't make the ear hurt so much if you wear it for a long time (if you get a good fit). One of these (I think the Jabra) had one that was kind of a "hook shape" on the top of the gel and that worked best of all.
