Most of using Kit Kat Roms on our Picos thank thewisenerd for aw3som3 and its successor awesom3. Also we know that it requires specially patched versions of TWRP to function. Sometimes you may try to flash a non awesom3 ROM on the awesom3 based recovery which, in my case, sends TWRP into a boot loop (Ironic, considering we use recoveries to get OUT of bootloops). This got so extreme that my Pico stayed dead for nearly a MONTH, which completely stalled development on my PAC ROM port.
Now as they say, when you're a hardcore Android nerd, you don't wait for things to go right, you make them right. I managed to flash Philz 5 and get a working SlimBean on it. Flashing twrp killed both the recovery AND the ROM. Hmmm, interesting....
I then hit upon an idea which fortunately worked. It is :
Flash the kernel before the recovery.
That's it ! All that blabber gets down to this. Take the boot.img outta your ROM zip, flash it in fastboot then the recovery, and come over and thank me here before TWRP opens up in all its glory.

LOL, that's an awkward little hack. BTW it never happened with me.

OK guys turns out that the broken TWRP installation was due to some file in my sdcard. To fix it I simply copied out my apps and TWRP folder and repartitioned it. Its working fine now.

Hi I am a follower of LeeDroid on Sensation and thus far have always been able to find the answers to my questions without any issues. But now I am starting to dabble with root on Xoom. Needless to say I had a LOT of issues as it's not nearly as straight forward as my Sensation. I resolved most of my issues and am finally ready to install Team Tiamat's rom. Reboot into recovery, choose the zip and it freezes on Unpacking New Files.... I've been at this all night and really would like to go to bed knowing that it's installed and I can mess with it tomorrow. Any ideas?
Thanks so much for the anticipated help!
Like what excatly is happening? You do have the CWM recovery flashed to the recovery partition, right? What have you've done so far? What guide you've followed thus far?
Pretty much rooting the XOOM is pretty straight forward, unlock the bootloader (adb reboot bootloader, fastboot oem unlock, on xoom press volume down then up and repeat once to unlock), boot back into the bootloader and flash the recovery (adb reboot bootloader, fastboot flash recovery recovery_image_name.img, fastboot reboot), then reboot into the recovery and flash either the root files or the ROM you want to use.
^^^
Totally agree. Once custom recovery is installed flashing rom is same as with other devices:
Boot into recovery.
wipe data/reset
install zip
choose zip file
Done
................
Avoid flashing through rom manager.
You need to have custom recovery tailored for Xoom (not what is available through rom manager)
.................
The rooting process is done and I also have already flashed cwm. The problem is when I go into cwm through recovery and attempt to load the tiamat rom it freezes at the step "unpacking new files"....

please check the md5 checksum (given from where you downloaded tiamat).
also flashing takes some time.
do not inturrupt.
Yesterday i flashed it and it took some time(even i thought it is doing nothing).
But it flashed ok.

Great minds and all that!
Hehe...
BTW I have flashed international stock version over US MZ604.
It has last update of 3.1 with micro sd support.
It gives a choice of what to mount(internal or sd card)
2 extra wallpaper also there.
Let's see how it performs.
Are you using the correct version of the recovery? This seems to be a common mistake made by quite a few people. You need to be using this version and loading the ROMs and kernels to a Microsd card. "Newer" versions do not use the microsd card so you would be flashing from the same internal memory that you are trying to flash over.

What he said, read the pre-requisites very carefully on the ROM page. Also what ROM are you trying to download and what version of honeycomb are you currently running? What xoom? Wifi or 3g?
I was finally able to get it done. The issue it turns out was my own impatience coming out. I just had to be patient and eventually it installed.
Thanks for all the help everyone!!!

I'm glad it worked. I know what you mean about being impatient...sometimes it seems like nothings happening and in fact, you just need to hang in a little longer.
This happened before but I can't remember how I fixed it.
1. Flashed TWRP (over codename if that helps)
2. it bootlooped back to recovery instead of starting the system
3. tried flashing another rom/ didn't work
4. finished season 2 of the walking dead
5. reflashed TWRP didn't help (TWRP flashing failed even tho it was the same file I used to get TWRP in the first place)
6. Took the battery out but that didn't help either
I really don't want to odin or use one click any ideas??

Meh, lets start with the first two...
To stop the reboot to recovery, you must flash eollie's oneclick with bootloaders (so flash it twice, second time flash bootloaders) and go back to mtd.

at first I tried reinstalling codename but now I'm trying Beam (Tuk edition) and it seems to be working
TWRP Major Boot Loop
hey guys, im new here and i desperately need help with my phone!
the other day i was flashing a rom on my samsung galaxy s 4g. Things were turning out fine, until i had some complications on my phone.. so, i removed the rom. when i rebooted my phone, it went directly into the team win recovery project boot loop and every time i try to reboot my phone, it goes into the twrp. I also can't wipe anything and i can't delete anything! Does anybody know how I can solve this or is my phone basically bricked
more details would be helpful..
As in what rom, or what kernel.... etc... and make sure you have the corret phone.
Same problem with t959p
Looks like I'm not alone.......here's my story
the other day I wanted to switch from a stock rom to a custom, so I flashed redux 1.3 which was actually a froyo rom, and it started draining my batt like crazy so I flashed another rom on top of the froyo rom not realizing what I was doing and somehow messed it up cuz now it will only boot into recovery.
Now just to be clear I know this was my fault, I know I should have odin'd back to stock first, but I wasn't thinking at the time.....Ohh and just so you know I've flashed this sucker hundreds of times and was always able to get out of any mess I got in.
So here is the situation as it stands now, 3 button combo to enter download does not work. I can only get it into download with the jig I made. the problem is even in download mode none of my pc's will detect the device as a Samsung composite device, so odin will not see it. I've installed every possible 32 n 64 bit driver I could find including reinstalling kies. Kies wont even see it. I've tried flashing a few roms that I know worked and still it just boots into recovery. Now one thing I'll tell you is that depending on which rom I flash I can get recovery to switch from cwm to twrp. right now I left it with cwm 6.x.
what I need is a cwm flashable stock telus t959p rom complete with bootloaders or at the very least a cwm flashable zip file containing the bootloaders to see if I can recover the phone.
ohh and if your thinking about telling me to google search for the answer then don't bother.......I've spent the last 4 days reading posts and going to different websites and repositories trying to find something that would help me and so far nothing has.
the only thing that might work as a last resort is pushing the bootloaders as per one of raver's or whitehawks posts but it's a little more complicated for me as I would have to set up a laptop with Linux as I don't think i'll be able to pull it off with any of my windows pc's, win7 and win 8 only.
so if anyone has the files I need or can make them please let me know....or if you think you have another solution I could try i'm all ears err eyes.
thanks
Jedi
Have you tried heimdall one-clicks? Maybe it's showing up as gadget or something like that. I've had luck using zadig and heimdall to bring it back from the brink of death.

EDIT
Woops replied to the wrong thread .
Nothing to see here, move along
Would like to revive a slightly dead thread.
I upgraded to a Galaxy S3 and no longer use my SGS4G for daily use. I had AOKP and disliked it, FC's and didn't like the feel. I have been trying to install a new rom ( old rom, VH Black Ed. ). Every time It loads into TWRP I have the ability to select the zip, install, it says complete, but reboots right back to TWRP menu. I've tried flashing CWM and it will install, flash the rom, reboot, and right back to this TWRP B.S... what am I doing wrong? I want to continue to use this SGS4g for music and internet duties.
How can I install CWM and have it stay even after a reboot? This TWRP is starting to me off
Did you happen to one click to stock before you went ham at the recovery?

First noted this is first time installing a custom rom. Long time lurker, first time problem!
HTC One S from Bell (Canada) Rooted/unlocked. CWM for Recovery.
Installed the from Zip in CWM. Cleared everything, went and flashed with fastboot for the boot. Everything looked good. Went back into CWM and cleared cache again.
Went to boot, hanging at htc screen but has the additional red text as well.
What did I miss ?
Thanks for any help or insight into this issue.
Is your phone s-off ... If not thm install 4ext recovery n flash the rom by enabling smart flash in 4ext recovery... Search for 4ext recovery n how to flash rom with s on ull b done
If I hve helped you press the thanks button ...

No idea what the above poster is on about but... My engrish isnt that good.
CWM is a crappy recovery for our phones. You should use TWRP instead.
But that doesnt seem to be the issue here. The issue you are describing is exactly what happens if boot.img isnt flashed through fastboot.
So, I suggest trying to flash it again through fastboot (fastboot flash boot boot.img).
If it still doesnt work after a couple of tries, change recovery to TWRP and start over from scratch (wipe everything, flash viper, flash boot.img).

Thanks so much, It worked. I was starting to stress out. Re-did the flash and BAM music happened. Just sitting at the HTC One screen now. I assume that takes a couple minutes.
Yeah. We dont have 4ext recovery yet for our phones. Only an old outdated version of clockwork, and of course a good updated version of TWRP. I havent used 4ext but have heard interesting things. I hear in the new year there will be some work on bringing it to HTC One S, although I dont know if it will have any features that arent already covered in TWRP.

Yeah im going to be switching over to TWRP. Sounds like its allot better to work with. I know with cwm you can't even mount usb storage, so you end up pushing files on using adb.
I think I screwed the pooch. I finally took the plunge and Rooted/S-off (with Sunshine) and installed a custom recovery. Issue is, I think I had TWRP installed and then installed Philz_touch_6.43.6-m8. Now, I can't get out of a recovery boot loop. I'm not 100% sure how I managed this but now when I reboot, I'm getting the red text at the bottom stating "this build is for android development purposes only" and boots me into TWRP. If I try to fastboot flash recovery and install the Philz recovery again, it does it's business, boots into Philz and when I go to reboot Philz it reboots into TWRP. Am I hosed? Any help is greatly appreciated. I was hoping by reflashing Philz it would remove the ability to boot into TWRP. This sucks!
Thanks in advance.
I actually just think somehow I hosed the system. I was able to download a custom ROM and get out of this boot loop hell!

I know you fix it...but did you 1st flash twrp via the terminal emulator?
Thanks for the reply guys and sorry I didn't answer sooner. I'm not 100% sure how I did it honestly. First time with an HTC coming off Samsungs.... everything is humming along beautifully and I'm digging the stuff I'm learning from here about these powerful devices. I'm a flashing fool!

I asked bout terminal emulator because twrp has the partitions mapped wrong. So if you do that it will flash to the system one which is what sounded like you did.....I been with HTC forever just a quick tip always fastboot flash if you can as it is the safe way..never use apps or emulator to flash...
OK cool Tigerstown... many thanks for the tip!
While I was attempting to flash CM 13.1 to the phone, it got stuck in a bootloop. Would not get past the white startup/splash screen. So, I booted it into TWRP and attempted to install the recovery I had made using TWRP. It ended up throwing me an error (I don't remember the code.) Anyways, I got the bright idea to completely wipe my phone and retry it. Now TWRP deleted my recovery, and my OS is gone. It was rooted and had SuperSU installed before it got bricked. Any help at all?

Cheer

The Xtreme System ZIP is no longer available.
*update*
I decided to try my own way and it worked very well. Using TWRP I was able to transfer a ROM onto a MicroSD, and then install that ROM from TWRP. It's a lot less complicated than the thread given. The Xtreme stock ROM is running very well though.
