The Chuwi Vi7 3G Tablet. Very affordable for under $60!
Mod edit: Commercial links removed
1. INTRODUCTION (#001)
// UNBOXING
(Click the thumbnails to see the full size image)
The box itself:
A very simple, blue box. Shows the Chuwi logo, processor specifications, and model specifications. Not much else to it.
Inside the Box:
Doesn't come with much. Just the tablet, 1x charger plug, 1x micro-USB cable, and manual/warranty documents.
// TABLET GALLERY AND DIMENSIONS
The device itself is 18.8 x 10.8 x 1.0 cm / 7.39 x 4.24 x 0.39 inches, making it a not-so-thin device to work with.

// DEVICE
Starting up:
The tablet takes over 60 SECONDS to boot. I feel that this is very long, but keep in mind this is only a $60 device.
The device comes set to Chinese out of the box. Click the globe icon near the bottom of settings and then the very first option to change your language.
System information shows the device does indeed run Android 5.1.1
The device supports SD cards and you WILL need one. Out of the 8GB in the device, only 3.55GB is available to the user. The low available space is from me installing many apps, do not be alarmed.
2. PERFORMANCE (#002)
// SYSTEM SPECIFICATIONS AND BENCHMARKS
CPU: SoFIA AtomX3 C3230 64 bit Quad core 1.2GHz
GPU: Mali-450MP
Storage/RAM: 1GB RAM + 8GB ROM
System: Android 5.1.1
Display: 1024x600 7.0" IPS
USB-OTG: Enabled
Bluetooth 4.0
TF/SD card: Up to 64GB (not included)
This device scores VERY high considering the $60 price tag. Performance wise, it heavily outclasses many Snapdragon 410 handsets and tablets, including the Moto E and Moto G 2015. Internet speeds are fast and stable, ensuring fast app downloads and system updates. Graphics scores show that the device can handle many recent high end Android games and emulators. They may not run perfectly, as this is still a low end device, but they are definitely all playable. From the 3DMark chart, you can see that the temperature of the device barely increases. I can confirm this, as playing intensive games does warm the Vi7, but it is almost unnoticeable, and certainly is nothing to be worried about.
3. SCREEN (#003)
The screen is 7", however, it only has a resolution of 1024x600. The colors are slightly inaccurate in the greens and reds, which is okay. But there is very visible pixelation in the overall screen quality, especially in text, when compared to higher end devices. You can even see it in the picture above. Here is a link to the full unedited image: http://postimg.org/image/hb4i0l677/
Testing the RGB accuracy of 4 devices, including the (From top to bottom) Chuwi Vi7, NVIDIA Shield Tablet(Native screen preset), iPod Touch 5th generation, and Droid DNA(Super LCD3) you can see the screen quality of all devices.
Red:
Blue:
Green:
As you can see, for reds, the Chuwi V7 produces a very burgundy color, is very accurate for blue, but for green it has a yellowish tent.
Outdoors, the tablet does surprisingly well, being able to view in very direct sunlight, while the viewing angles are questionable, it still produces a well enough image for one user.
4. BATTERY (#004)
The battery in this device is 2500 mAh, which is very small for a tablet with 3G. I work a 7 hour shift with my job, and this tablet could not survive from 10AM to 5PM. (10:00 - 17:00). Even worse, the battery reading seems to be broken on my device, I charged the device overnight and the battery app for Android reports the usage incorrectly.
Throughout my shift, I browsed the web, chatted on Kik, Skype, and Steam and played around 20 minutes of Implosion. Upon the end of my shift, I attempted to unlock my tablet only to find the battery dead.
Unfortunately, charging the tablet is a problem too.
It took over 2 hours to charge the tablet from 0% to 100% while it was powered off. The tablet does not support Fast Charging.
5. CAMERA (#005)
The tablet sports two cameras, one primary 2MP camera and a secondary 0.3MP camera. I took of a corner of my desktop with 5 different devices(Droid DNA, iPod Touch 5th Generation, 12.1 MP Fujifilm Camera, Chuwi Vi7, LG Tribute, NVIDIA Shield Tablet). The main purpose of this device is not the camera, so view the images for your interest. (Click the thumbnails to see the full size image)
Fujifilm:
Droid DNA:
iPod Touch:
Chuwi Vi7:
LG Tribute:
NVIDIA Shield Tablet:
The camera is of course the worst of them all, it lacks any type of focus, the UI is very stock, and it has no flash, however, this is only a $60 tablet, and the camera makes this a very feature filled device, especially since there is also a front facing.
// FINAL VERDICT: 8/10 (#006)
+Very strong performance at a price point of $60
+Plenty of features for an entry level phablet
+Runs the latest version of Android to date
-Questionable battery life
-Lackluster camera
Who would buy this?: Consumers looking to step into the tablet world of Android and on a very low budget. While this device does have many pros and also many cons, it is still EXTREMELY feature filled for its price and I would recommend this to anyone on a budget. This device beats Amazon's new Fire 7" tablet in every category: Camera, OS(Android 5.1.1 vs Fire OS), screen, audio, and storage. For only $60, you are getting a lot.
If you have any questions about the tablet or would like to see something added to the review, leave a reply!

Update: Added new unboxing images

How did you managed to install so many apps ?! Can you still update the apps you installed ?
I'm asking this because I was in the position of hard-reseting my tablet several times, because couldn't even update my apps...
Every time I start using the tablet, after each reset, an update of the Play Google AppStore is made and this gets much of the available space. As the main purpose of the tablet for me is In-Car Navigation I only installed Google Maps, Waze, Here Maps and Torque (for OBD2 car diagnostics connection). Here Maps was installed with two maps downloaded (around 500MB), but on the external/microSD partition. When I tried to update - from Play Store - any of the apps installed, I receive a 'not-enough space' message.
I tried several App2SD applications, all of them being basically shortcuts towards the Apps in Settings, with no success (no 'Move2SD' button available). I understand this is a limitation of Lollipop's OS.

Hello mircea,
Yes, there is a bug in this tablet. It will consume your storage slowly, until there is not enough space. I have to root the device, and flash it. After that, storage problem is disappear. And another problem of deep sleep (can't turn on after sleep) also resolve.

Have you tried the app Disk Usage & Storage Analyzer? It shows a file by file and folder by folder chart sorting all by file size. Maybe there you can find what is causing the problem.

Thanks for all your work !

No problem! Is there anything you would like to see added to the review? Other benchmarks? Gaming performance?

Deep Sleep Problem
You did forget a very big problem of this tablet.
It if goes into deep sleep mode it does not get back.
This makes the tablet totally useless.
It is incredible that a product that is on the market for such a long time has such a bug.
I cannot really use it due to this bug .
that is unfortunate for my first Intel tablet.

how did you root it and which ROM did you flash on it? does it come with built-in 3g? thanks

The 3G is built-in (functions as a big smartphone).

Chuwi Vi7 Performance as a 3G Phone
Hi , great review.
I have tried using my Chuwi Vi7 as a phone a number of times. It seems okay for short phone calls, but it has crashed a few times during longer phone calls of over 10 mins. I'm not sure whether this is related to the battery getting below a certain limit, but it was most inconvenient. I also find that my connection to my mifi drops when the battery gets down below 20% capacity. Has anybody else experienced these problems ?
I find the device is great as a satnav using Google Maps or similar. Always seemed to have a good signal, and didn't seem to experience any problems with processing map data / directions fast enough from what I remember.
I cracked the digitiser on mine when I had the tablet in a side pocket and I tried to squeeze out of my car when I could not open the door properly due to a car being parked too close. Fortunately I readily found a very reasonably priced replacement digitiser on Aliexpress for just over £8. See link below :-
Sorry - link prevented by XDA Developers Site - I'm a new user. Will post link after I've sent 10 posts.
It was tricky prizing off the old digitiser - takes a lot of patience, but I managed it and my Chuwi looks brand new again. The digitiser even has a protective film ready fitted !
Another success story of mine, is that I've upgraded the battery to one that is stated to be 5500mAHrs. Most batteries are over-stated, but this battery bought for under £6 is far better than the standard 2500mAHrs battery that is fitted as standard :-
Sorry - link prevented by XDA Developers Site - I'm a new user. Will post link after I've sent 10 posts.
I was still not satisfied with that, so I drilled two small holes in the back cover, fed two wires through and strapped the old battery to the back with white insulation tape. It's quite a thin battery ,so doesn't get in the way too much. I'd sooner have better battery performance than for the device to look aesthetically pleasing to the eye
Hope this helps other Chuwi Vi7 users.
Regards, Colinalvin63

@colinalvin63: following the (visual) instructions in the video below, I managed to install a new ROM - v1.1.13 - and, apparently, the storage issue is all history; the new ROM allows apps to be moved on the MicroSD card.
https://youtu.be/-gCMNMAdV9w
What can you tell me about the dimensions of the stock battery inside the Vi7? That would help me find a suitable-size bigger battery on Aliexpress...
Thx!

Chuwi Vi7 Battery Replacement
==========================
Existing battery is 3.3 mm thick and measures 9 x 7 cm.
Max available additional thickness, 3.3 mm (pound coins on top of existing battery).
Absolute max thickness of new battery must be < 6.6 mm. Recommend 6 mm to be safe.
Max length 100 mm
Max width 75 mm
Seller on Aliexpress was "ben zhang" , I think the item number must be 32305149726, because it's the only number in the items URL. I cannot paste a URL yet because I have only written a few posts.
You could also find the item by searching for "New Battery 5500mAH Li-ion Tablet" , that text appears in the title on AliExpress. It may take 3 - 4 weeks to arrive, so be patient. At under £6 it's very reasonable, though might not be quite as high a capacity as 5500mAh. I'm not sure how they test these batteries, but I think the capacity is actually approx. 4000mAh, but still a good improvement. Of course the stock battery may also be overstated at 2500mAh.
NOTE:
The Chuwi Vi7 has a little speaker holder, which gets in the way of the new battery. The speaker holder is largely redundant anyway, so I took it out. The speaker is magnetic, and sticks to the metal plate behind the battery. There's no way the battery will slip, unless the phone was given a severe shock - under such circumstances, a slipping speaker would be the least of your problems. Before putting the back cover on again, make sure you align the speaker with the speaker grill on the back cover. A stiff guitar plectrum is ideal for removing the back cover.
My Chuwi vi7 has Android 5.1.1 installed. Kernel version is 3.14.0 built Fri 24th July 2015. I can't see any ROM number like you mentioned above. What date was that build released ? When I check for a wireless update, it says my device is up to date. I have no idea whether such things would work across continents - I'm based in the U.K.
Regards, Colin

Hi Colin,
Regarding the ROM, check the description on the Youtube video - the 1st link is where you can download the ROM, the 2nd is the Flash Tool and the 3rd is a Russian forum where there's a huge topic on Chuwi Vi7 (apparently, Russians like the tablet very much).
Following the instructions in the video I was able to install the ROM and observed that I can move apps to SD card. I don't have the tablet in my possession right now, but - as you can see from the video - it's a build dated September-2015...
Regarding the battery, thank you for the intel!
From the picture below (also found on a Russian site), I found out the type of the battery as being model '337095', which translates into the following size: 33mm x 70mm x 95mm (interesting, huh?!).
I found your battery as being model '407595', no longer on stock. But found a new one. Or one slightly bigger.
Thx!

GooApple V5 issues list

Hello everyone!
First of all sorry for my bad English. I represent smartphones distributor from Kiev, Ukraine. We have contacted with GooApple sales director and have got GooApple V5 sample phone for tests before bulk orders.
All I can say: it's just not ready for international market at the moment and unfortunately they are not very much interested in positive firmware or hardware changes.
They have made firmware ios_11.12.08 for our last recall but non of our issues have been resolved + one added: it doesn't react on first home button push after lock screen, it only shows unlock screen after the second home button push or fast twice push.
Here is our issues list:
Phone's battery draining, runs out too fast!!! After full charge it runs out 75% battery life for 4 hours of usage: 1 call during 5 min., video watch during 8 min., music during 6 min, looking thought photos during 5 min., taking 3 pictures with the camera. 1,5 hour is just for walkthrough over the interface, settings, lock/unlock. 3,5 min. video takes about 5-6% of battery life. And it's without any gaming, internet surfing, making videos. Other time it's just holding.
Screen has some lightness flickering. Backlight blinking, flashing a little bit from the sides and left top corner.
Connect button (in putting Wi-Fi password mode) doesn't work. Just can't connect to any locked Wi-Fi network.
Bad Wi-Fi catch signal even with a close to phone router.
Doesn't remember icons location on springboard bar after moving around and reboot the phone.
Showing the last called phone number in background when sending USSD commands (checking balance or any anything else).
The input keyboard should be the same as iOS with working English and Russian (now it doesn't work) and customization ability in the General folder in Settings.
Booting animation should be the same as iOS with Apple logo only.
Creating folders (put in and put out icons) and moving icons around doesn't work properly.
The font in Calendar, Time, Dial is not the same as iOS.
The sim card pin code enter should be the same as iOS.
How to delete apps like Call Log, PowerOff... chinese QQ and others?
Reminders, Maps, Weather Stocks iReader apps should be in English.
Browser app should be renamed to Safari.
Gallery app should be renamed to Photos.
Phone key at dialpad should be renamed to Keypad.
Must speed up fake iOS usage response, performance.
Must speed up screen rotation/orientation response.
Must replace red ! (exclamation) to the Sending progress bar when sending messages/SMS.
Must replace chinese word to english word Call at the dial pad.
Make possibility of adding your own ringtones in the Settings.
Make double tap or pres hold the home button for multitask, running apps view like on iOS with appear at the bottom of the screen.
Make possibility of completely close/kill apps taking up memory and running in the background.
Make dialing numbers sound quieter (it's set to max by default).
Make lock/unlock sound quieter (it's set to max by default but should be possible to customize).
Make full-screen camera mode when taking photos.
Correct + - add sound mode when playing video, music (quiet sound from 2 to 6 bars and after 6 bars it's big increase in sound).
Remake Videos app (it should redirect/open phone's gallery instead of SDcard content).
Remake YouTube app (it should be in English or redirect/open youtube.com).
WLAN folder in Settings should be renamed to Wi-Fi.
Phone warms up when gaming, talking, videos.
It doesn't recognize sim card enter when ON.
Word Wednesday comes out of the Calendar app icon.
Power On/Off button dangles, swing around with sound.
Upper background part can be seen when charging.
While start pinching any picture from the center it zooms in with imprecision to the side of the picture.
Battery life doesn't shows properly on lock screen (it shows all empty when screen corner shows less of 20% battery life).
It Reboots by itself few times during the day when locking the screen.
If you know any other issues please add them by numbers 39, 40....
Or if you have solutions for any of the issues please also add it by the 1-38 numbers.
I hope we can make it better together!
Possible Solutions to Gooapple V5 issues.
Generally speaking, I don't think that all these reasons are real for every V5 phone around. Did you wipe out every data BEFORE flashing the new rom? If not, certain applications may have been running multiple times (i.e.: Maps in my case when I did that). I am using the android rom (not the iOS one) and I have not all these problems whatsoever.
Possible solutions:
1. Try and see if you have data enabled or GPS is on. This device has a hardcoded (R) Roaming on (i.e. you can't turn it off) plus it's not (yet) capable of 3G data. Turn both of them off while not needing them helps A LOT.
2. Not an issue here with newest android build; maybe your screen has issues. I've had some friends with original iPhones having the same flickering as yours. Turned out to be their retina display.
3. Not true. I'm connecting on both my wifi spots at home both Wep and WAP/PSK. Wifi is low powered though and need you to be NEAR the wifi router / spot (see below).
4. True! Just 5 meters away and a mid-wall makes the difference. They really need to boost their receiver.
5.Try reinstalling AFTER you've made a complete wipe data/factory reset. THEN install the rom. This might fix the issue.
6.I'd really like to see a list of USSD commands if you have one available for this phone... (pm me??? )
7.Same for Greek keyboard. I've overcame the problem by installing Greek Input Method from the market.
8.Heh. +1
9.It works for me for both android and iOS roms.
10,11.I agree.
12.You'll have to be 'root' to do so. The only way I've found to do so is the program superoneclick (google it). After rooting the V5, download from market 'Root Uninstaller'. Works perfectly even with the 'protected apps' like the one you mentioned. I know that you don't have 'market' on iOS rom so here's what I did:
I've had a factory reset first, then installed Android rom and THEN the iOS rom. I've also installed a program called 'Go Launcer EX'. This pops up when unlocking the device asking you what launcher you prefer, this way you have the best of both worlds.
13-16: Agree.
17 & 18: The problem is the retina display with the slow (relatively) 650MHz MTK6573 processor. The G3 (previous model) had a smaller screen that the cpu was able to handle. On android rom things are better though...
19 & 20: Agree.
21: On android you can do so by adding your custom ringtones on a folder called /alarms, /ringtones etc on your sd card. Should work for us too (didn't try it yet).
22. Agree.
23. I am using an app from market called: Advanced Task Manager does the trick.
24-31. Agree.
32. I didn't go that far!!! I guess you're right.
33 & 34. Yep.
35 & 36. I haven't got such a problem. Consider the retina screen of yours has a problem / issue?
37&38. Nope. Works alright here.
Finally another issue with no solution:
39. GPS lock. The GPS won't operate properly in EU (Greece) where I live. Takes forever to find satellites and it won't lock to a fix point even if you wait 10 mins. This is what I'm after right now and if I have a proper solution I'll post it here.
Thanks for putting up this thread Cyber_dude. If you need anything I'll be more than glad to help!
Thanks for your reply.
We have talked with GooApple for about a week now and sure I have made all needed such as wipe data before firmware update. That's because you are basically using Android ROM. Customers buying phones like this one because they just want iPhone for less and want everybody else think they got an iPhone. So using Android on any iPhone replica is just not right. It should run fake iOS and should be at least 60% of the original one. This phone costs $300 icnl. shipping at resellers (price of used iPhone 4 on eBay) and I think user interface should be well polished and flawless for that money.
Yes, Maps on last gooapple_ios_11.12.08 works in English now. But after resolving one problem they made two others, like it doesn't react on first home button push after lock screen, it only shows unlock screen after the second home button push or fast twice push.
1. That's not a solution! Sure I have turned everything like wi-fi, gps... off. But customers want it to be fully functional phone, without thinking: "ohh., have I turned my phone's wi-fi and gps off to kepp the battery alive?" It's shouldn't be like that!
They have you used so low capacity 1050mAh battery. (but we think it's even less). The original iPhone's has 1420mAh. And there are even 2200-2430mAh on the market today. They have changed screen, ram, cpu but keep the same battery. It's just stupid. And it's smaller then iPhone's battery so you just can't replace it. It works maximum up to 3 hours in active usage mode without gaming. (with full brightness on, because turning it less on this screen is just sacrilege).
That's they have answered about that: "when making a phone, we have to consider a lot of things, especially the cost, when everything is as great as iphone 4, the price will be too..."
2. Yes, it's old issue, it resolves after reinstall.
3. It's true. It works on you because your wep password is large then 8 characters. It doesn't work with less passwords like mac or iPhone.
5. Yes, new firmware resolved that.
6. I mean USSD commands for checking balance.
But here is a command to enter EngineerMode: *#67876#*
7. Stock keyboard is a crap. I use Smart Keyboard Pro.
8. I can change robot with apple booting animation but can't change gooapple name at the beginning. I think it's logo.img at the rom zip file. I have tried to delete it and make other changes to the rom but can't sign it. It's always shows sign error at the install.
9. It works but it works very-very badly. Then you are trying to move icon to other position it creates a folder with other icon, it's so annoying.
12. I have also made the root with the SuperOneClick. And delete Chinese apps with Root Explorer.
Thanks for Go Launcer EX advise. What else it can help us with?
17 & 18. They used MTK6513 it's cuted MTK6573 without 3G. It's not the best one anyway.
21. Yes, I also want to try to add custom ringtone to media directory folder.
23. Yes, I also use Advanced Task Killer Pro on gooapple_ios_11.11.30 but they have added double tap home button like iPhone to kill running apps on gooapple_ios_11.12.08
35 & 36. These issues are real and haven't resolved on new roms. That's not screen problem, I can make a screenshot if needed.
37. This one is also real. Can also make a screenshot.
38. Haven't seen this issue on gooapple_ios_11.11.30
39. Maybe you should try to test it in EngineerMode Have you tried to use any other GPS third-party application?
I didn't know about this issue because I haven't tried GPS, no need with this battery.
Do you know how to replace chinese word (Call) to english word Call at the dial pad? Because it's immediately catches the eye when using. I have decompiled the Phone.apk with APK Edit program but all image files are normal over where, chinese word is not an image file. I don't know how to change it.
Just lets keep this thread go by adding new issues and how to solutions.
Got my V5 about 2 weeks ago. Been playing with it for a while - tried both the newer roms and currently running the ios version that is made available about 10 days ago. Been working fine for me, except I may gps is very slow (can take up to 10 minutes for it to find me), and the built in FM Transmitter does not work. I also have various chinese apps which I was not able to delete. I will try the latest rom to see what improvemements it has.
Question, how did you root the phone? I downloaded superoneclick, but keep getting hung on the "waiting for device". I have usb debuggin on, and tried it both with "usb connect" on and off (the setting in the phone to establish a usb connection to a PC). Instead of using this "usb connect" feature, do I need to download some type of usb driver for this phone? If so, can you provide details? I've tried various usb drivers for MT6513 but nothing yet works - even tried something called PDANet which installed some type of software oin the phone and said it was connected, but still the superoneclick failed. Any ideas?
Oh, by the way I found a vending.apk that works on the ios rom. See link below
http://www.mediafire.com/?khpvzmzwwaqyxdm
Thanks
I have uploaded the drivers for GooApple V5, here is the link: http://www.mediafire.com/?h6hr1ckrf3sc7cj
How to root your GooApple V5:
Make sure you use Win XP.
Download drivers file from the link above and unzip it.

Phone Settings -> Applications -> Development -> Allow analog location, on
Connect the data cable, turn on USB storage in the phone.
In the Windows Device Manager (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Device_Manager) find your phone, open properties and install or update the drivers from the unzipped folder.
Reboot your computer.
Now download the SuperOneClick from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682 If you run XP, install .NET Framework v2.0 or above.
Shut down your antivirus/firewall.
Turn off USB storage in the phone. Make sure you do not mount the sd card.
Run the SuperOneClick BOOT process. If it's not success from the first time try it again.
After that install the Root Explorer to your phone, go system/app, push Mount R/W button and delete any app you want.
Thanks for the vending.apk, here are also some tips for it: http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/how-to-install-new-android-market-2-2-6-on-your-device/
Cyber_Dude, thanks for the engineering mode code. You've done a nice job on the rooting info. Just for the story: I've done it on W7, 32bit and worked alright too. Newest superoneclick has the ability to forcibly ask for Admin privileges. Drivers have to be installed manually though.
I've found out into the Engineering menu that there's a CPU Frequency test that reports a high of 806MHz. THAT would be awesome to have when needed. Do you have any *working* utility that is able to over clock the MTK6573 CPU of it? I've tried some from the market but with no luck whatsoever.
Some info on the WiFi boosting would be helpful too. I've been digging into the /etc directory and found out several conf files that may, or may not do the job. I'd rather not alter the values on my own though...
Ah, finally another addition:
There seems to be an issue importing/exporting my contacts from the phone to google.com. Plus the Account and Sync options on the settings menu isn't reporting the respective field (i.e.: only Picassa, books and gmail is able to sync. Contacts is not on the list).
Thanks.
Cyber_dude - thanks for the rooting details. Got my V5 rooted today, and it worked from my vista laptop (didn't need a xp PC). I deleted the 9 chinese apps no problem including the chinese market app.
The vending.apk I provided works whether you root or not - however now that I'm rooted I will keep your instructions in mind if I want to upgrade to a different market version.
I'm still on the Dec1/2011 ios rom - anyone know what the newer ios rom (Dec10/2011) has to offer? I have tons of apps and settings personalized, so I'm not really wanting to wipe the phone to load the latest ios rom unless I know it will have some improvements.
Only problems I still have, which I would appreciate feedback on, are:
1) gps is very slow to find my location (can take up to 30 minutes). Funy thing is that as I scroll on the map it refreshes fast, and I can find addresses and streets, but it just can not find my location?
2) ther built in FM Transmitter does not work - would love to get this working since I do not have bluetooth stereo in the car. FYI - found other fmtransmiiter.apk apps on the net - can I just replace my existing same app on systems/bin to make it work?
Thanks
Have you tried it with the 'new' Android UI ROM? How does it perform? I'd really like to see some videos - youtube only has 13 and I've seen them all ..

1) Same thing here. From the data sheet (from Mediatek) of the MTK6573 (which this phone has) the update location should be as fast as 10ms (that's 1/100 of a second) so something is DEFINITELY wrong.
2) I think you'll have to 'sign' it somehow. There are some apps that are supposed to provide 'signed' apps but never got to work with one; so I have no experience.
Cheers
macsga, DanADaMan, you are welcome.
I think cpu overclocking is not in time now and it also can make even worse. But we'll be glad if you can find any good, stable working app for that and test it. The only thing need to be overclocked now is the iOS UI, it should have to be polished well to match the original one.
For WiFi boosting, have you tried Wifi Fixer or Wifi Analyzer, you can change your WiFi channels with it.
GPS chipset is very bad. It's just a copy, fake phone, so they have used the cheapest hardware parts for it, we should reconcile to it. Unless they somehow fix it in new firmware, but I don't think it's gonna happen in near future. The main market for this phone is China, so they don't hasten with any international changes. As GooApple sales director said to me: "we sold more then 500pcs aday, should this problem happend to every phone, i think all the phone should return to us". So maybe chinese people are just not as demanding as we are, and they are happy with the phone? Anyway, I think with a good administrative force all listed issues can be resolved in just one week.
By the way, as I know they are planning to produce new phone in January with the 3G support. No info about any other new hardware at the moment.
Meantime we have to add new issues to the list:
39. GPS is very slow to find my location (can take up to 30 minutes).
40. Built in FM Transmitter does not work.
41. Importing/exporting my contacts from the phone to google.com. Plus the Account and Sync options on the settings menu isn't reporting the respective field (i.e.: only Picassa, books and gmail is able to sync. Contacts is not on the list).
42. In last gooapple_ios_11.12.08 firmware it doesn't react on first home button push after lock screen, it only shows unlock screen after the second home button push or fast twice push.
Updates in the last gooapple_ios_11.12.08 firmware:
Increase in task manager.
Blocking state to increase unread text message reminder.
Debug chinese QQ picture upside down.
Some Google applications added (en maps, gmail, voice..)
Task Manager.
Standby SMS prompts.
Double-click the home button shows running/standby apps and kill possibility like in original iOS.
Plus issue 42 added.
I haven't tried all new features in gooapple_ios_11.12.08 I don't want to use it because of the 42 issue. Now I'm using previous gooapple_ios_11.11.30 version. If anyone already installed and running the gooapple_ios_11.12.08 please give us your feedback.
DanADaMan, maybe you should try to make the data backup in stock recovery mode first and install firmware update after that? Maybe this should keep all your apps in and give you the new firmware? (haven't tried by myself)
jontelang, Sure, Android UI works much better with it, but I personally don't want to use it on this phone, it would be too simple and means you gave up making iOS UI ROM better.
As a side note, I've noticed that the phone is able to provide extraordinary 2D & 3D performance. I don't agree with the comment "It's just a copy, fake phone, so they have used the cheapest hardware parts for it, we should reconcile to it." you posted earlier Cyber_Dude, because I've seen cheap devices and this is nothing like it.
I do believe that the dev team has issues supporting the phone chipset due to the novelty that presents at the current time. This processor came out only at the end of June 2011 (fairly new).
News about MTK MT6573 Processor
Monday, June 13, 2011 3:25:26 AM America/Los_Angeles
Since the release MTK MT6516 processor, there is lots of Android phones in the market, which support GSM network and dual SIM card smartphone. But later, when Qualcomm, Broadcom and other smartphone processor manufacturer access into the field, mtk's dimmed. MTK MT6573 is the only hope in the future.
The end of June, 2011, we will share the latest trends with you, with the following new star.
Time: the first smartphone with MT6573 processor has been assembled, the major integrators, solution providers have had contact with, the reaction generally very good, have begun to prepare the relevant program models. As far as know, next month the first smartphone with MT6573 processor will unveiled.
Performance: As MT6573 is positioned in the low-end smartphone, we should not expect performance of deification, but the actual test performance to facilitate more than Qualcomm MSM7227, while MT6573 with the 3D acceleration in the multimedia DSP will give you a surprise. Currently sent to the integrators, solution providers of 3G features are still several prototype debugging.
Programs: MT6573 and MT6516 share same pins, and the both chips can be exchange without any hardware change, this will save cost on design for smartphone manufacturers.

macsga, But have you test it side by side with the iPhone 4 (not talking about 4S)?
Sure if comparing with other copies it's a winner. It's the best choice if you want to buy an iPhone replica for the price of the used iPhone 4 and you're not too picky. But it's a huge contrast with the original iPhone 4 UI performance, speed and hardware. And at the present time it's not totally ready for the wide international market due to the all listed issues. That's why I have started this thread, all together we can make it better. Unfortunately GooApple's dev team/engineers do nothing for it, local market and the new phone's version is their main goal at the moment. I know that because I've contacted with the GooApple sales director for the last 3 weeks.
As I have posted before they used MTK6513 it's cut MTK6573 without 3G support. It's good but not the best one. Anyway CPU is not the main problem of GooApple V5. The low capacity battery is much bigger failure. The android-sale.com is just a reseller, they can write anything they want to sell the phones more efficiently.
Hehe, I do have a 4s and (you're right) side by side there's nothing like it. That's why I gave up on iOS UI and turned to the android native one. I do believe that it's a perfect android testbed though. And for 230 Eur (retail price) that the 32Gb model cost me; well I can't really complain.
So; I totally agree! Let's try and make it better
The UI might be faster if you lower the resolution (i.e.: draw @ 480x320 and not the retina native resolution this phone has). It's zoom capabilities should cover the gap and reduce choppiness. Of course, this is just a crazy thought of mine...
macsga, Where have you got it for 230 EURO for 32GB? Official resellers like android-sale.com and rofen.net selling 32GB model for $319.99 (245 EURO) without shipping cost.
How could you lower the resolution? And why? If you want lower resolution you just should buy cheaper GooApple 3G version and it has faster UI response: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WqAevweocKs

I got it before the EUR/USD was at 1/1.29 which is what you just calculated . The lower resolution (magnified) would in my opinion give the fast and smooth feeling the 3G has.
As per why I didn't go for the 3G, I did not, because of the retina display the V5 has. The official replacement for a retina display from Apple goes up to 390EUR+pnp, where I got the whole phone for 230 (OK plus 11$ shipping). In the meanwhile I have an android phone to play with (apart from my 4s). Fair deal.
I just wiped the phone and tried to load the ios 12-08-11 rom. Got an error something about not being a signed rom. I reinstalled the ios 12-01-11 ios rom no problem.
Anyone else have problems loading the latest ios rom?
Thanks
is this real?
i have heard that the Gooapple v5 is very good, and it is the same display as the real iphone 4, and can exchange with the iphone 4 display, does this ture?

There are newer ones from 2011.12.10 on http://rom.gooapple.com use those. Hopefully you won't have the same issues. Correction: Unfortunately the new Android one is not signed- The iOS though works OK

Yes, it's real. You can watch exchanging one another, on youtube here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=s7nUkSdzOqo
The flickering at the corners of the screen is annoying on mine, has this developed from the latest ROM or did you guys see it in previous? I've only had it a few days and updated straight away. I've resorted to the android UI cos the IOS one was sluggish but am more than happy to swap back to help?!
What I did find was GTA III kills this phone. On launch the intro plays but as the game launches the screen goes black and the phone will not respond to any button pressing for an hour, then I think it kills the process and the phone comes back. Just don't try, unless someone can tell me otherwise?
Mine responds on one click of the home button right now but Wireless is pants and so is GPS!
---------- Post added at 09:48 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:35 PM ----------
How do I tell if I loaded 2011-12-08 or 2011-12-11?
I downloaded them on the 15th and loaded the Android one without any complaints of it being unsigned? Did it over the top of the version it came with though so not fresh install...
EDIT:
Thought it was worth adding how to get into engineers menu:
Dial “*#67876#*”
Is there a way to turn WiFi Tx from 20 to 40 or even more?
I need to root mine still
I never noticed flickering and I have to say that the latest 'iOS' rom is a bit faster on my device resulting in a rather good imitation while the previous was very choppy.
The only drawback is that the UI crashes every now and then. I do like the 'long press' function of the home button that is able to kill apps in the 'official' iOS mode plus I think for the 1st time since I owned this phone that I like more the iOS UI to the android one.
I do have to offer a couple of tips that I found through my xda search:
1. Using a program like Root Explorer (root) you may want to make the following directories as Read Only: /data/tombstones and /data/system/dropbox
This has as a result, that the phone won't be able to log into the main phone memory thus trimming down your available space.
2. *IF* you're using the iOS UI version of the rom you can safely(?) remove the following apps (I state them as bloatware) via Root Uninstaller (root):
-QQ input method and keyboard
-Chinese market
-Chinese Youtube (Yuku)
-Chinese Maps
-Chinese Weather (3 entries, remove all three)
-Chinese iBooks (Google books does the job)
3. Add the following app: Locale Select from the Market and choose your language of choice.
4. If you search the xda site you will be able to find signed Google Apps that (most of them) work with this phone.
Ah, one last thing: I found the best player for playing p0r... erm, Movies, MoboPlayer with the additional ArmV7VFP3 plugin. Supports almost every codec and srt file out there and respective char encodings. Please ignore the message: This program is not compatible with your device. Works like a charm, I swear.
Cheers.

Custom ROM coming soon!
Kitkat update has been released! Build number: G6-20140929-144358,2014093
kitkat G6-20140929 download: https://cloud.mail.ru/public/3670a7a4ef72/G6-20140929-1443584.4.zip
been using 4.4 for a few hours and already it seems pretty good. RAM usage is good and xposed works!
The battery, dimensions and dual speakers are what interest me most. When comparing to the Note 3, this is just 5mm taller and has an extra 300mah in the battery.
Anyone else have this phone?
Ordered a white 32gb/2gb model today, cost £200.99. Also bought a rubber case for £2.something
Delivery is 5-15 business days. hopefully i get it soon, very excited
1. No Kitkat release yet
2. Call ID is not display for incoming call
3. Not root available
Had a look at a Russian forum, and many users have reported the speakers rattling, and some guy had quite a few dead pixels on his device. I really hope mine doesn't have any dead pixels arghh.
TWRP is available, and maybe a MIUI Rom. Gonna post links later

Have a Jiayu G3.
Delivery already root !
Maybe the Jiayu G6 is delivery with root too.
I've that one
Hi,
I already have this one for over a month now and I really like it. But I hope the community gets bigger.
So there will be more tricks and tweaks. I'm just a thinker and leecher.
Wdeb
Got the device yesterday and so far ive been quite impressed.
Build quality is good, no creaking.
GPS works very well! Gets a lock with no internet in 10 seconds. Very accurate, more than suitable for regular navigation.
Speakers are VERY good, loud+clear.
Front camera 8mp is v/good, soooo much detail. Rear camera is good, focuses very fast. There is a lot of noise in low light however, and shutter speed becomes very slow.
WiFi signal is strong, better than all my prev droid devices.
Root can be enabled in settings
Bad stuff:
Stock launcher and theme are very ugly, also the app switcher is iOS style, and slow. Also note this gives the wrong RAM usage reading.
Overall, ui isn't as quick as it should be. Don't get 60fps transitions everywhere. The jiayu g3s beats the g6 there.
'Aliyun OS' atm xposed probably won't work and will cause brick.
Will comment on battery later, but screen on time will be around 5 hours.
Discovered some small bug in the camera app. Photo mode must be set to '13mp 4:3' for the video camera to record in 1080p, otherwise it will be 720p.
The gyroscope (might) be messed up, the axis are swapped, so if you move left or right on x axis, the phone thinks you are moving up or down on y axis. This is common with mtk6592 devices. I've only tried using the gyroscope in street view on google maps, so could just be a bug in that app.
I got 6h37 minutes screen on time a few days ago! Without a doubt the battery is 3500mah. Phone was on minimum brightness, wifi was on all the time and 3g was active for about 90 minutes. I was basically using snapchat all day. The battery percent is slightly inaccurate, 100 to 90 percent decreases slowly, then lasting 90% decreases in a linearly. Some other people have also had a miscalculated battery, it is something to look out for but not much of a problem, since the battery lasts so long anyway. I don't think recalibrating with an app will fix this but I will try.
The Jiayu S2 was very recently updated to kitkat. That phone has identical specs to the G6, so I think it is very likely the G6 will get updated to kitkat soon too.
Chrome browser scrolling is really laggy, stock browser performance is very good, but most the search providers are Chinese. I recommend using Bing, as that detects your language. Google is in Chinese. You can set your homepage to the correct language.
I've own also a G6 and have massive problem with it... ob better with the backup i've done befor i updated the rom to the newest version.
I’m not able to restore the user data with the build in “Android system recovery e3″, it simple says “no sd-card” (G6 has only phonememory, no sd). I've made the backup via e3 befor i flashed the new version, so i have now a clean g6, a backup from nearly 530MB (named “userdata_20140820_184248.backup”) and can´t restore it. Is there another solution to restore it (I have already tried nanodroid and TitanBackup, none can work with this backup-typ (will not show it)…
If i have a look at the phone with the root explorer, it shows me to under root\sdcard the phonememory, under root\storage sdcard0 (which is also the phonememory) and sdcard1
, which is only r/o with a size of "0". Phonememory is shown as 24,11 GB. It seems that something went wrong with the update.... Meanwhile i have restored the apps manually, but i'm not able to do a new Backup (error: no sd-card if i use the build in e3-backup solution)....
Any idea how to fix this error?
Firmware update??
I was reading the last reply, were Chris4Me mentioned a new firmware??? But where does that one come from?
I did see the one on Needrom, from Socrates. But because I can't find a back-up-method that completely backs up the phone, I haven't tried it. I want to go back to the former state. So something like ghost-images for the PC but now for the phone. Does someone have that?
I do like the G6 a lot. Sometimes it lags a bit, but most of the time it works perfect.

Here's the link. I don't think it includes flashtools program. In flashtools select 'upgrade firmware'. The phone storage is formatted, you will lose all data on the phone so remember to backup!

Might make a tutorial in weekend
Hi,
thank you... i'll download it...
Done... there are no (flash-)tools in the package...
By the way, which recovery solution are you using (cwm/twr)?
I've tried severale (for example: Carliv Touch 6044 v2.5), but none will work (i always get a "no sdcard" error), reason seems to be the virtual sdcard of the G6...
So i'm using instead of cwm/twr the titaniumbackup and nanodroid... i hope it will work, i don't will loose all my apps and data again...

Not touch screen senses at different points..! I installed the June update, does not work
1.Preloaders replace it with another?
2.Where to download link please?
3.Or Have a fix file?
4.perceive touch at different points does not operate normally, how do I fix it?
Rooting G6
Hi All,
I ordered G6 and will receive it next week.
Is there a way for rooting the device?
I need the root to repair the IMEI due to custom regulations in my country.
Jiayu support answered that there is no engineerinf mode available on the original ROM.
Therefore I need the root to play with Mobile Uncle Tools.
Thx in advance

Known Issues
The first time you switch on, you will see the OS Switch button on the Windows TaskBar, when you click it the first time you will see the Q2S Config Utility. My advice is to set all options on the left to Enable. Set the options on the right to Enable, OS2, Reset System, Disable. Click commit. Warning! If you select SoftIcon Switch Enable to Disable and then click Commit the taskbar icon will disappear! Also if you set Mute Enable to Enable and click Commit the Q2S Config Utility will not open again so you can’t make changes.
Once you have set up the bluetooth keyboard in windows and reboot into android you obviously have to pair the keyboard again, when you return to windows you will have to remove the keyboard (same with my bluetooth mouse) and re-pair it again. So each time you dual boot you have to pair again. I have decided to only use the bluetooth keyboard with windows so it works after a OS Switch and back again.
Update 03/Aug/15 Windows 10
To upgrade immediately go to this page and select Download Tool Now 32 Bit version.
The upgrade will not affect dual boot.
Update 31/Aug/15 Windows 10 Windows update has improved stability so I recommend getting all the updates.
Update 06/09/17 How to Root, see above and various small edits.

Battery life
Hi,
Thanks for the first details of the tablet. Have you had a chance to test battery life yet? I am thinking of buying the Chuwi or the Ramos i9s Pro Dual boot. But it seems there is no 3G version yet for the Ramos which I find useful for my purposes. On the other hand the Chuwi has a 6400mAh battery only (8000mAh for the Ramos).
Cheers
Today I got about 5 and a half hours of normal (no gaming) use

I got mine today.
just want to add some rants
- bonus screen protector is not good.
- no exFat on android.
I doubt any "hack" to support it since chuwi doesn't release kernel source
- strange pattern under bright light when screen is off. not noticeable when screen is on.
I saw the same thing on old HTC windows 6.5 device (HD2 if I remember correctly)
other than that I'm quite satisfied.
i'm planning to buy this tablet
is there any weakness i should know before?
preferable a comment from someone who's already using it for a few weeks
i'll get either this or Onda V919 or Cube i6, though i prefer smaller one
but Onda V919 has a large community here, and Cube i6 build quality is better (than Onda, dunno VS this one)
hows the battery? also is the weight is truly ~300gr (like iPad Mini)?
Thank You
Available Free Space
Even am planning to buy Chuwi V89 dual boot 64gb awesome specs.... can anyone please tell me what's the available free space under Windows 8.1 and Android. Thank you.
Hi, I have had this pad for 1 week and I am pleased with it so far.
Mine came with the Android version all in Chinese, you have to change the language in the settings.
Here are some points worth a mention.
PRO's / CON's
The screen is very good, sharp and responsive but is a fingerprint magnet and does not have anti-glare coating like my Nexus 7
Windows Resolution is 1920x1200 Android Resolution is 1280x800, can't seem to change it.
Windows Hard Drive is 41.2Gb Android 10.7Gb The rest must be Operating system and caches?
My Quadrant score is 12453
GPS is slow to lock but OK once done.

my unit came this morning and I really like the flexibility here. Windows + Android in 1 tablet, it's the dream
I have a few questions actually
1. how long the charging operations usually from 0% to 100%? the LED is blinking red light and the % increase so/too slow, made me thinking my battery or charger is at fault. but after 3 hours, it sits at 51% (I'm charging in Windows env). I too using USB charger doctor to display amperage used. sometime it only charge at 0.1A and then up to 1.3A using both Chuwi charger or iPad charger. is this normal?
2. any way to Configure BIOS or resize default partition? or even install a Linux distro? because the Default we need to load 1 OS first before launching the OS switch button.
3. the official forum is using Chinese, and I'm not familiar with Chinese . any other information for this tablet? I really curious about OS update (Windows 10 support? Lollipop?)
Thank You
Hi ils,
mine arrived almost flat and I had to charge it to set up my windows account.
I usually charge overnight using my Samsung wall charger which can give 2 Amps max, It does appear to take a long time.
I managed to root it today using the links supplied in this post.
I don't know of anywhere else to find info in English, I also do not read Chinese.
The drives are visible in windows disk manager, all 16 of them!
Not looked at playing with the BIOS as I only really wanted this for Windows.
I would not expect Lolipop any time soon, But windows 10 will be a free upgrade later this year.

hi guys just wanted to give my opinion on this tablet, i've had it for about a month now and as much as i love it couple of issues people may want to know....
i also find the charger very slow, can take about 3-4 hours to fully charger from below 10%, even if switched off, i found that the wifi performed better in android but it may have been down to a driver upgrade, i went back to previous driver and now it seems to work better.
i was extremely happy about the memory provided for each os as i don't require so much for android,it was and 31gb for windows after updates and 10.7gb for android, i've had no issues with the dual booting and battery life seems to last around 5-6 hours if watching movies online with bluetooth on, so quite good really, in my opinion anyway.
would like to know if anyone has been able to update to windows 10 technical preview whilst still keeping the android dual boot option?
also screen is very good quality aswell, also doesn't seem to be as much support for this unlike the onda v919 and teclast x98 but to be honest i much prefer the chuwi screen size/aspect ratio compared to the 9.7/4:3 the onda n teclast use.
hope this helped guys

I wonder if we could change Android Resolutions to native since the text seems blurry
yeah, I also chose this tablet because the size and aspect ratio
9.7" is too big for me
about Windows 10, how can we install new Windows without access to bootloader?
Hi, I found that from off, if you hold the vol - and On together you get to a bootloader.
Also Vol + and On get you to a different one.
I wiped the cache in there and it improved my slow GPS fix issue.
I also ran SuperCleaner and now my Quadrant score is 15127, up from 12453
Thank you
Thank you please keep us updated. maybe a youtube video review? anyway you can even connect a keyboard and click DEL or ESC button while booting to get into bootloader like any other PC. same works for teclast. and I truly feel you can install and update to windows 10 without messing up android as windows has its own partition and during installation select windows 8.1 partition to update to windows 10.
Regards,
Rakesh

[Q] Honor 6 Plus - worthy update for OnePlus One?

Hi All
I haven’t found a specific forum for Honor 6 plus but I hope to find some answers to my questions here
Currently I have OnePlus One and I look at Honor 6 Plus for an upgrade.
The selling point for me is camera performance. I expect H6+ to have less noise and be general better all-rounder camera.
I know that the performance will be slightly worse than OPO and video quality will be worse as well (OPO has 4k recording and [email protected] and [email protected]).
But…
Can you help me if H6+ will be worthy upgrade for somebody into photography?
1. How it is behaving in general usage (shutters, hick ups, performance issues, software issues – battery drains etc…,)?
2. Lollipop update – forecast?
3. Overall phone quality – any issues with it? Bad pixels, light leaks on the screen, any bend-gates/antenna-gates, my-phone-tries-to-kill-me-gates?
4. How is the camera – photo quality, noise levels on dark photos, does it have any manual settings? Or if not in stock version are they accessible from 3rd party apps? (ie.on OPO using app “Camera FV-5” I have the access to manual ISO and exposure time settings, is this possible in H6+?)
5. 3D photos – since the H6+ has two cameras this technically should be possible – is it?
6. RAW shooting – any chances?
7. Can apps be fully installed on SD card? I have noticed that my Samsung tablet moves only small bits of the app to SD card while my previous Tegra tabled moved whole app there (both were on 4.4 KK) – how does it work on H6+?
8. File manager – since KitKat security restrictions crippled SD card functionality I understand that (without rooting) file managers cannot modify SD card unless they are built in the ROM and seen by the system as core app. Is there any built in file manager in H6+ able to create and delete files from SD card?
9. USB OTG – does H6+ supports USB OTG for USB drives/keyboards/mice? My typical scenario I take photos on my SLR, I transfer them to my phone SD card , I share them from my phone. Will it work for me using H6+?
10. Is it powerful enough to play demanding 3D games like KOTOR for example?
11. Buy now or wait for something on Kirin 935? Or for the price fall? Any fortune-tellers around?
Thank you all for your time and replies
Hi guys. I know there are few H6+ users here. Anybody willing to share their experience?

1. I think it's the best phone I've had since my first cell phone in mid-80's , no freezes etc. Long battery time, charge 2-3 times a week, but I' work at home and are out of the building a few times a week, or while on holiday. Don't use it for music, but Surveillance(Blue Iris) and IP-Cam viewer, booking app, and remote controlling my officePC.
2. Lollipop will arrive in July/August I think. Nothing I think is worth waiting for, have 5.0 on my Tab S, and there are some bugs...
3 Nothing, got the phone in February-15.
4. Camera is OK, HDR, Super night,Panorama etc. I have an M43 from Olympus, so it does not bother me.. ISO , WB, smile detect and touch for focus,GPS,and timer functions+ some watermarks and small adjustments can be made, no manual shutter/aperture. Seen an Oppo which looked better , at least on the screen..
5. No 3D in the Honor app
6. No RAW....
9. I have one Oly PM1 for underwater photos, I use a WD wireless disk with SD card reader on holiday, download to my Tab, share. My EM-10 is wireless, transfers JPG wireless to the phone, share. (I use PhotoMate on the TAB for editing RAW files, can then adjust WB etc.like LR.
11. Hmm, I love this phone, have a alu frame around it with plastic backcover(metal dampens the signals...). I like the camera function where you can adjust the aperture after the shot. I would maybe looked at the newest Honor or Huawei P7 because of an international version of ROM, but then I would miss this camera option!

Located in Norway. Downloaded Google Play/updated it with the English version.(The GPlay Icon is the same in Chinese), and the phone updated most apps by itself to English versions. I have chosen Norwegian as language, and almost all menus are in that language, else in English. Hivoice is in Chinese, so voice control does not work(or I have not tried, can't read chinese). HiCloud/cloud+ does not work, annoying, so I have manually set up backups to other drives. This also means you have to download Themes manually, but no big deal for me. There are a few Huawei Apps, forums, etc, all in Chinese. I think the access to Cloud+ and Hivoice is most annoying, as it reminds me to do backups I can't do because I'm denied access to the Cloud+.....
Besides that, after using it since February, I'm very pleased, it's my all time favourite phone since mid-80's , Owned most brands, Motorola,Philips, Ericsson, Nokia, Samsung, HTC,Cubot(Apollo), and now Honor....... And, there will be a Lollipop update late summer for it...
kingroot will root the phone without unlocking the boot loader. then you can use rom toolbox to freeze/disable the stupid system apps. you can get the playstore from the huawei appstore, then kill the appstore. from the miui website you can get the google apps apk installer for google contacts sync. then just use a third party launcher and you have a fairly stock android experience with all of huawei honor6s great hardware
Bought today from Amazon UK, awesome phone. Been on it all day and still got 69% battery ( I'm a heavy user ) lots of media and live streaming playback etc. Phone came with virtually vanilla style setup ( all google apps installed ) very few bloatware so its been a dream start. Camera is good ( not as good as Sony z3 but holds its own. Performance is very snappy and I've not had any lag on anything and also feel no need to root as of yet as all is very good as it is.
Coming previously from a nexus 4 this phone is very good indeed.
Regards as always
I got one from amazon as well. Good thing is that all of bloatware can be uninstalled (not hidden) I managed to get rid of all of it with no problem.
On various reviews I read that it has no headphones in the box but mine come bundled with a pair - haven't tried its quality but they look rather basic with only one button. Also in the box I had two screen savers for front and rear. Still a puzzling thing is that somebody on the amazon claimed that he received his with touchplus screen protector!?!? I wish to have one but it is almost impossible to buy. How about you? Did you get one as well?
Nah same as you mate, headphones are basic yes so I use my own. I got the 32gb version. The apps I didn't want I could actually uninstall so thats a bonus for me I guess. This phones battery is WOW still going and got 35% watched fa cup, golf, boxing as well as faceache and twitter use........ Its running on Duracell lol.
Regards as always
Hi guys - if you are interested I have just posted my review of OPO vs H6+ on the main section of the forum:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-6/general/comparison-oneplus-one-honor-6-plus-t3127840
Honor 6 plus on ebay
Those looking for this device can get the 32GB NFC international version in any of the 3 colours from the manufacturer and a few dealers on eBay. They will load language and radio bands to suit you needs. Must say do like the Gold version..So worth a look on eBay people.
Hi all.
Do you have "cloud problem" as well?
I have been testing my H6+ camera further and I have noticed that test stock camera delivers superb quality on low light shots but its struggle with clouds and end results is very grainy. Even well below 100% magnification you can see the noise. But on the other hand using third part app like my beloved FV-5 solves the problem and clouds looks much better even fully zoomed.
Therefore I believe that this is compression algorithm issue only within Honor camera app. My stock firmware is B141. What's yours?

[Firefly] [ROCKCHIP] [ITX-3588J] "This device is not Google Play Protect certified"

I want to say that thanks to the help from @Nikhil I finally got the Google Play app set installed on my Firefly ITX-3588J ROCKCHIP RK3588 board's Android 12 stock image install. Except now there's one last little problem that's a bit different than everything I'd been having before here, and that's that it says:
This device isn't Play Protect certified.
Your device isn't certified to run Google apps or use Google services. Contact the device manufacturer or retailer and ask for a certified device.

And I can't use the Google Play Store to download the apps that I need that were the whole reason for putting it on in the first place (to get Chrome, ZOOM, and Linux Deploy especially).
What can be done about this? From what I gather, Google maintains a list of "blessed" devices and obviously this board (very new, not from a typical manufacturer, not your typical Android device i.e. a phone or tablet) is not there. Is there any way around this? I saw something about registering it in your Google Developer account (which I have one of), I tried that some time ago when I had a less than working Google Play installation (before the recent one which looks to be "100% proper", that one was crashing in weird ways in addition to giving this error), but it seems not to have taken and/or be remembered. The device is connected to the Internet via Wi-Fi but that's about it.
Is there any fix? I seem to be soooooo close now to finally having coaxed a usable system out of this board!

Yeah. It's not on the list of certified devices - which is hardly surprising to me given what it is.
ADD: I decided to try registering as a custom ROM.
ADD 2: I finished the custom ROM registration. The device is no longer giving pop up notifications that it is "not Play Protect certified", but Google Play still goes to - and now goes immediately (no log in prompt) to - its "This device is not Play Protect certified" error screen. What's going on?
ADD 3: I managed to get it to work. The trick was to go to System > Apps and clear cache and user data for both Google Play and Google Play services. That reset everything and now it goes! Thanks for your help.
I am thinking of purchasing one. Where are you at with yours @Shimmy99 ?
Have you been able to download everything you wanted? Are you using a touchscreen?
Thanks ahead of time.

Works great as an Android 12 machine. Ubuntu is proving much less trivial to get working, however, chiefly due to graphics support issues (also not gotten GRUB to work yet, either) - I even installed a GPU card, but it is not fully working because it appears something is funny with the driver code and the way Rockchip's PCI Express controller work together and it looks like a real kernel development problem (kinda reminiscent of issues with the Raspberry Pi and GPUs, but different ones). The real trick to getting a smooth GApps installation was to pack a custom ROM with a suitably loaded "product" partition/directory with the apps from a package like NikGApps. Can/will provide more details later/if you want them. No, I use keyboard and mouse. Android, though, is kinda quirky with them.
Thanks for the detailed response. I am thinking of getting the Firefly variant with 4GB/32GB. You mentioned you were trying to add a GPU? It seems the main reason for getting this is due to the Mali GPU. What I am trying to do is create a system with enough "kick" to compete with the Steamdeck but with a 10" screen. Frankly, I just wanted something a little better than my current solution based on a 2019 Shield TV (Tube) but with twice the performance. The Shield TV has been a fun project since I doing a lot of SMD soldering and working in small spaces. I plan to talk about it more on my YouTube channel 'All THings 3D' in a week or two. At $400 for a 10" variant (full BOM) using the Firefly makes it a hard sell for anyone except the tinkerer. If I stick with the Shield TV, it competes niceley with the new Logitech 7" cloud game pad.
Anyway I will message you since I have another project I am working on that may interest you.

You trying to make a handheld with this? This board, I don't think, is compact/cool (as in temperature - it has a fan!) enough for that purpose. It's really more like a mini desktop computer board, or at best a laptop - it'd be an awfully thick "handheld" to accommodate the ventilation... Yes, you're right about the Mali GPU - no Ubuntu support (but OK with Android 12). There are other and smaller RK3588 boards, but the heat dissipation of this processor looks, given the presence of a fan, to likely be a liability for handheld use I'd think.

I received the Orange Pi 5 yesterday and was able to get very good 3DMark (4454) rating with small heatsink on top of the RK-3588 without a fan. My case already has a couple low profile 40mm fans in the back of the case for the 10" 1080P screen that currently houses customized Shield TV board. This will work much better and with much better rating. The only problem is no WiFi or BT on the board and I am already using the M.2 slot for a NVME and none of my USB WIFI dongles work which means I will have to find a Android 12 build that someone has already included the drivers for USB device, or do it myself. Or, maybe Orange Pi themselves have USB driver built in that haven't disclosed which one yet. In any case $84 for the board with 8GB which is less than half of the price of any other RK3588 boards out there.
More to come...
