Video on S2 - Samsung Gear S2

Gear S videos play good when turned sideways like a mini oled widescreen. The original aspect ratio looks normal, but what does video on the S2 circle screen look like?

Screen quality good for movies & youtube?

I want to get this tablet mainly for movies & youtube. I know the screen is only 800p, but I have a slow Internet connection so I only tend to watch 720p videos anyway.
How good do youtube and movies look on this display with regards to black level and colours.

This review pretty much sums it up...
"The Note 10.1's display was both a disappointment and a surprise. The display carries a resolution of 1280 by 800 pixels, the same as the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 and the Toshiba Excite 10.1. That means no high-pixel density clarity or detail on text or graphics, as you'd find on the Acer Iconia Tab A700, Apple iPad, and Asus Transformer Pad Infinity TF700.
However, Samsung has clearly done something with this tablet to boost its display performance. The sharpness and color of images is dramatically better than the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1, and my high-resolution images in the Google Gallery had sharpness and detail that came close to what you'd find on the high-pixel density displays. (Another observation: Android tablets typically struggle with skin tones, but the Note 10.1 produced some of the most realistic skin tones I've seen.) Text clarity was better than than on the abysmal Galaxy Tab 2, but it couldn't hold a candle to what you'd get on any of the high-pixel density displays."
I think it's awesome in my opinion. I live the dual speakers having forward. It's now my go to to watch series on in bed.

I thunk this tablet may have the best 1280x800 HD displays out there. REMEMBER. 720P is HD also The display combined with great stereo speakers make this an excellent tablet for media consumption and viewing/listening.
I watch a lot of movies on it. I really don't have an issue with the screen and the sound is impressive.

If you've watched 1080p videos and 720p for example a 15 inch laptop I'd say that you didn't see almost any difference. Of course the screen resolution itself is more important than the videos resolution, but then think about the size, which is minus 5 inches of that laptops screen I find this tablets screen very good. Sometimes I have to zoom webpages but that's only when using splitscreen. So yes it's verygood, but it could be better of course

Very Good. Breathtaking and inspiring.

The screen is accurately calibrated according to "Display Tester" by gombosdev (free in the Play Store). I have no tablet or phone (LCD or AMOLED) that can pass all of the app's gamma tests -- except the 10.1 Note (with latest update).
I was really confused when I wanted to buy a tablet. I was confused between both the New iPad and the Samsung Note 10.1
I was a big Apple fan until I got my hands on this amazing, inspiring, incredible, and lovely Note.
It is seriously one of the best devices I ever had.

Galaxy s6 edge screen issue

My Galaxy s6 edge has an issue displaying video. Everything looks good but whenever it shows night scene or really dark scenes there's black blotches on the screen that makes the picture quality look 8 bit or it looks like it's watercolor. I was wondering if it's normal or a issue with my display. There's a video on YouTube called The Dark Knight The Joker's Last Scene where i can really see the effect. It's especially noticeable when I watch it in a completely dark room at night.
Maybe a defective screen. Bring your S6 back to Samsung for warranty repair.

Some YouTube videos I found that look stunning on the S7 edge

I'm not sure if there's another thread for this, but I tried looking for some videos that look awesome on our screen and I found these 2 that look AMAZING!

Turn to brightness to max and switch to 2k quality, and prepare to be blown away by the eye candy.
Quite a nice idea!
I love the clarity this display provides
One trailer that I find quite impressive is this one - it's a demo for Samsung's UHD-TVs: https://youtu.be/AYl7oLNP5Wg
The crowded scenes really come alive on my Edge

It's not only the clarity, it's the pictures popping out of the screen. Make a comparison with an iPhone or any device really, the display on this thing is ridiculous.

Hmm, that's strange. Are you using the latest YouTube version available on play store? When you press the 3 dots in the corner of the video you should have a quality setting where you can select the resolution. If the video was filmed in a higher resolution and your screen supports it, you should be able to select it. For example the videos I posted were filmed in 4k, but our screen can't see higher then 2k, so you should be able to select 2k, which is 1440p.
When I use Firefox browser to browse YouTube and choose desktop mode, I can choose the quality to 4K

It was opening through Tapatalk's built in youtube so 720p was max but when I used the youtube app itself I was able to watch the movie in 2k. All I have to say is wow, especially to the second video.

This one is great as well. Some of the animals colors are so eye popping, they almost look 3D on the S7 Edge.

That landscapes videos at 2k is insane on the edge, Can't belive how good it looks.

Question about viewing video

I am thinking about picking up an unlocked AT&T S8+. I know that the phone isn't as wide as an s6 edge plus but it is a little longer. Does the long skinny screen distort or stretch out movies? Are games stretched?
By default, videos will play with the expected aspect ratio with black bars to fill in the space. Both YouTube and the Samsung video app have an additional full screen button that forces the video to fill the entire panel. I have never noticed any distortion of the video in this mode.
Thanks for the info. I saw one on display and I was a little surprised at how much better the display was than the on on my s6 edge+
I came from the S6 edge plus as well, and that was an impressive display. Look up "4k video" in the YouTube app and make sure that the resolution is at 1440 when a video starts playing. Do the original full screen, and then look for the expanded full-screen button. It is mind-blowingly beautiful.
Oh, and the S8 plus is only about 1mm bigger in either direction. The phone fits perfectly in the holster case that I had for the s6 edge plus.

Ok Mateview monitor is good!! The article is emphasizing on the 16:9 as the best ratio for extended display (external).
One of tge points states that this ratio is good for viewing movies as the black bars ate there to gibe cinematic look.
But thia is the old tradition!!! As of now most persons prefer more screen to body ratio even in pcs and laptops.
Monitors with display like 21:9 are getting more popular by branding as ultrawide display!!
Also they look aethetic
Tbh, 21:9 will crop the video film from top and bottom!! It is soomed display!!
So i would say 18:9 is muchh better!!!
18:9 gives u some cinematic screen with minimum black bars!!!
No cropping of videos!
Wide screen (not ultra wide).
But i cant find 18:9 display in market!!! If you can find any like yhis it sill br much better. Pls share any models if u find!!
Contrary to this Lenovo has lot of ULTRAWIDE 21:9 display which CROP THE VIDEOS!!!!
