if your bootloader is unlockable then you can use all moto g 15 roms otherwise no.
Im curious about getting this for virgin mobile also. I cant see any reason why you wouldnt be able to root and run the roms available. Nevertheless I want to ask first; has anybody unlocked the bootloader and rooted yet?
Virgin mobile is cdma, ie sprint. You'd have to find a rom that supports this.

And how many support CDMA which is what Virgin requires? Because I've tried a couple and none of them give me service...
That is really too bad. Finally Virgin Mobile gets a decent phone, where there is plenty of development early on and it seems its for the gsm variants then. I've had my last phone (HTC Desire 601) since Nov. 13' and it never received a single developed Rom after almost two years now. Hopefully someone will port to CDMA because I really want to buy this being that its in my price range.

I wouldn't let that hold you back from getting it. Stock is actually pretty good once you root and then remove the bloat on it.

I started out with CM 12.1 and followed this in order to get service on my Virgin Moto G3: http://forum.xda-developers.com/201...-g-3rd-gen-t3174926/post64104373#post64104373
I then wanted to test this method on another rom, say Resurrection Remix.
Flashed everything and used this method. boom! we have service and data.

Are you still using the Resurrection Remix Custom ROM on Virgin Mobile Moto G 2015 3rd Generation? Did you flash the Resurrection Remix ROM in TWRP and then the APN Fix referenced in the URL you posted?

While I was on RR, it baffled me that I was not be able to send/receive messages, which was the killer for me. I reverted back to stock because I really didnt want to deal with those issues. Data/wifi worked fine with the method I posted. Flash Resurrection Remix, gapps, then go to mount and check the box next to system. Flash the apn fix provided in the link, then you will need to power off your phone in twrp. What i did was I put the phone into download mode and flashed the derp3 boot image via command prompt on my computer.
Some observations I found:
First boot into the rom somehow I was able to send/receive messages
If I rebooted the rom only once after the first boot, I cannot send or receive messages anymore
Data and wifi worked fine for me the whole time
Signal bars in status bar didnt look out of the ordinary
This problem is why I went back to stock. It was a real hassle for me, especially because I had to do all these steps to get everything working, and even after I did that i still had the sending/receiving messages part and I could not figure out why that was happening.
Bottom line, go ahead and try the method. The apn fix and derp3 img are provided here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/201...-g-3rd-gen-t3174926/post64104373#post64104373
If you wanna experiment (like flashing the rom gapps apn fix but not derp3) go ahead, I tried it and it works fine.
The only rom in which everything worked flawless was cm 12.1: http://forum.xda-developers.com/2015-moto-g/orig-development/rom-cyanogenmod-moto-g-3rd-gen-t3174926

Appreciate the quick and detailed response.
That is strange if data was working, texting wasn't.
When texting, did you use the RR text messaging app or a third party texting app? If you were using the RR text messaging app, I wonder if something like Chomp (which has it's own built-in APN stuff) would work - or maybe 8SMS or Textra?
Were you getting 4G speeds when not using WiFi?
I would use the CM 12.1 but I'm a 'dark theme' junky. Have to have all my settings and windows, etc dark mode.
Thanks again for the quick response. :good:

No problem man I actually tried to return this phone but couldnt...
I used RR's default messaging app and tried hangouts as well. Even a 3rd party app like hangouts gave me the same issue. In terms of Chomp or something like that, no I did not try that. Maybe you try it and tell me if it worked for you.
To answer your question about speeds, my plan was a bit odd. After 3gbs of "highspeed data" any data used after that would be reduced. And oh man it was a pretty drastic reduction in speeds. I used this phone for one month and was on unlimited everything, so yes with the high speed data I was getting 4G. It was consistent and fast after the reduction..
Ahh dark eh? Right in the same boat. On your phone go to this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2283828 and grab the updater app
Once you have the app click the three lines in the upper left hand corner, choose themed apps. Then choose Main Apps. This will give you the option to choose individual apps you want blacked out (ex. Chrome, Hangouts, YouTube). For example, if i want to install the blacked out chrome I need to uninstall the default app from the play store first in order for it to work. I did this on my G2 running Marshmallow, so just choose the desired app and install it as an apk (in some cases you will need to flash it).
I will let you play around with that if you are interested. A great theme that comes with RR is their Pitch Black theme which you can find on the Play Store. This theme literally makes everything black and red, which is my personal favorite. :good:

I actually don't have the Motorola Moto G 3rd Gen 2015 phone - yet. Just doing my homework before purchasing - which may be sooner then I expect as my current phone (ZTE Supreme) isn't getting any data at all. That just started within the last 30 minutes or so.
When/If I do get the Moto G, I will be trying the Resurrection Remix Rom. I had the TeamBlackOut app installed on my ZTE Supreme, however, I think they quit supporting the app at the first of the year. Whenever I would updates, no updates would be listed. Could have been that the site was down. Never did go back and check.
BTW, why couldn't you return the phone? Virgin Mobile has a new policy of 'no questions asked' when a customer wants to return a phone.

The blacked out apps are pretty awesome, even though it isnt supported anymore..
I bought the Moto G3 at a Best Buy store at the mall, and they only gave me a 14 day return policy. I unfortunately went over the 14 day period and could not return it. I am now trying to either sell it or just give it to someone for a present. Its a great all around phone, but it seriously got slow at times which I did not like at all. It is waterproof too! That's a plus.
Compared to my LG G2, the phone was a step back for me. It is a mid level phone, not a flagship. It got quite frustrating, but that's only my opinion.
i tried to return it for that reason and am stuck with it at the moment..

That stinks that Best Buy won't take it back.
I agree, Blacked out apps are awesome. It's too bad nobody wants to keep them up.
Do you have an eBay account? You should be able to sell that moto 3G easily on eBay And probably get most of your money back.
Thanks for the input and advice.

Depending on the condition of your phone and the price, I may be interested in purchasing. I've purchased used phones in the past, however, I typically don't purchase unless the phone is in excellent to like new condition.
Virgin Mobile's current price on the Motorola Moto G 3rd Generation is $99.99. Beings that your phone's bootloader is already unlocked and you have tested Resurrection Remix and CM 12.1, might be a good thing for me to consider - Especially if you had a descent sized SD Card with a nandroid backup of Resurrection Remix on the card to restore after activating the phone.

While it is a budget phone, it may not offer the most high end specs. Its a solid buy for anyone who needs a decent working phone. Now with that said, unlocking the bootloader does take some work via command prompt and research. It's not one of those phones where you can just download an app and you would instantly have root. But, it seems like you are interested in unlocking the bootloader, and I can help you with that.
The major downside with this phone that I noticed was mine only had 8GB of storage, I could barley hold anything on there.
It also had 1GB of ram, so that may be the reason why performance wasn't as buttery smooth at times.
Could you link me to the phone you were thinking of buying? I can see if it is the same one I bought. I would recommend buying the 16GB with 2GB of ram variant if you are wanting to keep this phone for the long run.
And yes always make a backup when installing any rom in case something bad goes wrong. You will then have your old rom to go back to in case you run into that kind of situation.

My apologies. I assumed the phone you had already had the bootloader unlocked and was rooted.
In any case, the Moto G I was considering was on Virgin Mobiles website. URL: http://www.virginmobileusa.com/shop/cell-phones/moto-g-3rd-generation-phone/features/
I have unlocked bootloaders and rooted many phones including the Moto G 3rd Generation. My personal feeling on phones is not to spend a lot on them as my occupation can be hard on phones (computer/network engineer) and a good but inexpensive phone is much easier on the wallet if it needs to be replaced.

What is it that you need mate? Root that phone? If so...Search through this site first, if unable to find it. Google continues to be your best friend as posted by the member above you
Cheers,
Thanks! I found it and now its rooted with CWM!
Everytime I flash CWM 4.0.0.5 with Command Prompt, when I reboot the phone, then try to get back into recovery instead of CWM, i get the stock Moto recovery. How do I fix that?
Edit: Never mind i just flashed CWM in ROM Manager
Cliq XT Rom.
If anyone has the STOCK rom for the Family Mobile Cliq XT, I'd love to have it. Got a Tmobile one, and want to use it on Family Mobile.

The ROMs aren't very different at all. I don't know if you have to be unlocked for it to work, but I would try a Walmart SIM in it, and if that doesn't work, just unlock it.
There are some differences between the Tmobile and Family Mobile ROM's. There are improvements so that your MMS works right, and so you can better connect to their 3G network. You can use the base phone for voice, and data, limited to 2g, and MMS is flaky, at best. This phone is really obsolete, I cannot even install Amazon appstore on it. I've flashed it to Froyo, but it runs like a dog. Plus, the screen is small, and I have a difficult time typing on it. I'm 51, and getting crappy eyesight. But, I'm stuck with this phone till I can afford something better, or can get my MOTO Electrify to use domestic GSM towers...And, yes, I know the Photon has been cracked, but the file won't work with the Electrify. :{

Hey guys and gals, Please advise.
I've been a Sprint customer for 2 years my contract is up. Had an HTC hero which was an amazing phone considering it's age.
I bought 2 VM phones; the optimus V for the wife, and the Motorola Triumph for me. Owneed them both for 12 hours and I'm a bit concerned.
I've rooted them both and removed some bloat. I looked online and see nothing but praise for the optimus V and the MT looks like a lemon based on reviews! I noticed some lag on the touchscreen (I tried to ignore it but the killer is the GPS, the optimus found location in 5 seconds, and the MT was still searching after 5 minutes.
Should I return this thing? Is it a software problem or hardware? Will a custom ROM help?
Please tell me if i should exchange it for the optimus.
Had the same feeling back in August when I purchased the phone. Do yourself a favor and install CM7. You will notice an insane difference; it’s more like owning an entirely different phone. That thing they call an operating system that’s installed out of the box is an insult to both the user and the phones hardware which is actually very good. It took me a few weeks to get the guts to install the Rom but it came to either that or throw the thing in the Delaware. Now a days you could not rip the device from my cold dead hands. I use the TG reloaded build and if you’re not familiar with Roms CM7 is for the most part the closest thing you can get to striate up Google's Gingerbread with a few tweaks and no Virgin Bloatware. Anyhow with the correct software the Triumph is a beast and runs circles around some of my friends higher end phones using their stock Roms. Also, the processor used on the Triumph is used in other devices as a 1.4g processors, including a few tablets so don’t be afraid to crank it up a notch or two. Also the TG Reloaded edition uses a 64 MHz minimum frequency when idle compared to the 246 MHz minimum used in the stock Rom, literally doubles the battery life.
Yes, give the CM7 TG-Reloaded ROM a try. The Motorola Triumph is based on Huawei Ideos X6 reference design, which is sold as different variants world-wide. The hardware is very capable, but either the Motorola people or those responsible for getting it to work on VM were very sloppy, so all the bugs in stock ROM. Most have been addressed in CM7, but still some remain.
As for the better battery life, the 61 mhz low freq helps only a little, other factors include less junk running in the background, battery-optimized interactive governor, and wakelock bugs in the stock kernel that prevent phone from entering deep sleep mode (common, but hard to track problem on a lot of Android phones).
I love my MT running miui [email protected] there's a agps fix somewhere on this site. I personal don't have any issues with this phone

Thanks for the replies.
I agree that CM7 makes this phone waaaayyy smoother than stock. I still get an occasional lag on the touchscreen and the 4 "buttons" on the bottom are sometimes unresponsive; but this thing is awesome. The only reason the Optimus V is more popular is because it's cheaper. The MT is sexy :^)
The thing I miss from my HTC Hero was the ease of wireless tethering. I didn't really use it much, but it was nice to know I could run any piece of hardware without any mods.
Does the CM7 TG reloaded ROM have an OC kernel built in or do I need to flash one?

I may be close to fixing the touchscreen issue, it bugs me too. CM7 allows built-in wireless tethering, and you can add it to be a quick toggle in the notification bar, along with other options. OC kernel is built-in, check out the first post on the ROM thread to read up about all the features.

I was really excited when you said the CM7 native wifi tether worked...but I couldn't get it to
I even factory reset and wiped everything to make sure it was a fresh attempt. Still nothing. Both my PC and Hp touchpad can find the signal but neither connect/keep the connection. After attempting the connection (and saying it's connected for around 3 seconds) the touchpad will no longer reads the wifi signal.
Any threads on this for me to research? I looked to no avail.

VM doesn't support 3rd party Voicemails so getting a visual one may not work... You can ask VM about it and see if they can let you but it may just be a network thing with them...
And the MT is in a low activity section because no one is here there all at android forums...
Triumph has a few hardware issues that won't go away, like GPS and touch response puking randomly.
Also while CM7 does bring extra functionality, it is less stable than stock.
Optimus V is basically the only solid prepaid phone on VM.
Hopefully Sprint learned their lesson to not rebrand POS phones and instead, use existing phones that have proven themselves. We will likely see much better phones by end of 2012 based on what was said at CES '12, so just hang tight.

Yea... by the end of 2012, well its the beginning right now and if they don't start getting newer phones, I may have to switch to another company... I heard Straight Talk is getting the LG Optimus 2X so that may be incentive enough for me. VM needs to get a dual core and not just keep bringing in more and more phones that have 600mhz or 800mhz processors with 3 inch screens...

Yeah that phone looks really promising, but ST is expensive - paying $25 on VM vs $45 for ST, unless you need the higher end plan on VM anyway.
If you're willing to go high end, you can grab a Nexus/GS2 and use it on tmobile's prepaid instead, it's what I'm doing current with TMO's $30/mo plan.

That's what I've heard. If you buy a used/unlocked TMO phone, you can get the TMO activation kit for something like $7 ( it's just a SIM ) and put it in your phone and your good.
This is what I'm thinking about doing myself. I get ok coverage with VM on my LGOV, but not great.
My wife has a TMO Exhibit2-4g and it's a great phone and the service is good as well. She's on the $50/month plan, I'll opt for the $30 I think.

Yea I did some looking and youbcan use any t-mo phone. I'm thinking Akita switching over too. $30 for 5gb of 4g and unlimited texting is good deal. I don't even talk on the phone for minutes to matter lol. Vm service is just starting to annoy me :/
i had both of these phones! i liked the V better. but the MT was newer and bigger so went to that. but still have the V.
Okay, so I know this phone doesn't exactly win the spec war, but it's awesome and would make a fantastic rooted phone. Unfortunately there isn't a forum here on XDA for the device (either because it's too new or there isn't a demand for it)
Do you guys think a forum will be made for this device? It'd be nice to at least have a place to say what root methods DON'T work (I've tried a few)
Thanks for the help, XDA rules!
I second this. I am planning on buying a new phone and after researching numerous phones out there based on my tastes and constraints, I think this phone works very well (another is Samsung Galaxy Exhibit 2). One flaw that I heard is the amount of storage in this phone is around 4gb. Without a way to put apps on an external SD card (which I believe would require a custom ROM), the storage would probably fill up pretty quickly. So it'll be great if XDA opened a forum for this phone.
As a side note if anyone can point to other devices that fit my needs I would be grateful:
- Less than 4.2" screen (preferably 4").
- Android only
I don't have any financial constraints or any favorite companies.
Thanks!
What root method did you find worked? Did you try framaroot? Also have you found any Roms?

Bad news
I have created the recovery tree, and have created a recovery.img for this phone. ok now heres the bad news OUR lg optimus f3 has a stock 3.4 kernel with a locked bootloader. Even worse news is that 3.4 "locking" features a sha5 hash system for its image/partitions (recovery, boot, and bootloader). Even worse news there is no known (or atleast what i know or have heard) way to get around this. The phone will be forever locked until lg updates or allows said lock to be removed. I have flashed the recovery and have had no damage to my device but it just sticks at "unsecure recovery" and does a hard reset (factory restore) every time i try to play with it which is a huge flaw if you ask me.
I have hexedited the bootloader and found that there is indeed "juicy" strings within that may tell to a future unlock these strings being
-Device UnLock!, so Boot Success!!
-oem unlock
-ERROR: Could not do normal boot. Reverting to fastboot mode
Also these strings could just be defualt with all lg bootloaders meaning....there is no hope.
My phone is without a soul and I will never be buy lg again.
If anyone is able to get into fastboot
1. PM ME
2. run : fastboot oem unlock
Again root for this phone works great as long as you dont touch recovery, bootloader, or boot partitions

Out of curiosity, any chance Loki would work? I'd be willing to give it a go if there's a decent chance—still within the 14 day exchange window .
Will motochopper work on any carrier version of this phone? Thanks!

I've seen confirmations on three carriers (can't remember which ones off the top of my head, sorry [edit-well, T-Mobile and Virgin Mobile come to mind now]), so I'd assume the answer is yes. Regardless, I have yet to see anyone complain about adverse affects, so no reason not to try (though, grain of salt—I'm brand new to android).
For anyone that has this, how are the antennas on this phone?
I just ordered one from tmo and am hoping to get better reception at my house than from my Samsung or HTC.

I failed rooting my phone with Windows system, maybe cause I'm not familiar with the process or I was just to lazy, but it does work if you use motochopper. Try looking it up youtube. You could try my method, it should work on Jellybean 4.1.2!

BAHAHA me to man i think im down to 10 days. Im trying to get some attention but i need someone who knows little endian, and their way around bootloaders. Id be willing to donate to someone who can help me out, also to support the other 3 variants (if the aboot differs).
I have a recovery created also and a device tree (needs gpio support for kernel).
And to awnser your question, yes loki will work IF i can get the needed values so that when recovery/boot is read into memory that it overwrites the security check feature in aboot. If the wrong values are give you may end up with a brick (very slim chance)
My return window just closed . If it helps, you can pull the open source from LG's website and merge it with the android source. I also discovered an even easier solution: set up the LG Sync application, and select the "upgrade recovery option". Then, when it begins downloading, remove your phone, set Windows (or your relevant OS) to show hidden files and folders, and go the the Program Data folder. There should be something like "PHONEAX" under the LG Electronics folder that will contain the full stock kdz file when the download is complete.
It's really kind of surprising that there's absolutely no dev love out there for the F3. I suppose it's because the phone is entry level, but it's really not that bad but for the storage. I got it as a gift, so no complaints here—of course, if anyone wants to donate a Note or Galaxy gratis, I suppose I'd be willing to switch .
I had a Galaxy S4 from Verizon. I switched to T-Mobile Because believe it or not the network is stronger where I work. Also, there pricing on plans cannot be beat. But, I digress. The Galaxy S4 being a Verizon device never really functioned the way it was supposed to on T-Mobiles network. It was unlocked however was still useless for 4G LTE and while I could do better than edge in some places, those places were few and far between. I started to assess what it is I actually used my phone for these days. I'm not into modding with custom ROMS and kernels anymore and I'm not much of a multi-tasker either so I decided that I did not need the super power device anymore. The specs on this phone are perfect for what I need my phone to do. Its been a long time since I have gone beyond rooting to remove bloat and tether. I agree that the storage on this sucks. I don't understand why there are any devices anymore that come with less than 32gb internal. storage is the cheapest thing that can be added to a device and its not as though it uses much physical space. other than the storage I will say that I am impressed with the quality of this device and I don't know that I would even put this as low as "entry level device." I would say its more of a mid-grade device. I am also happy with the reception on this device and its nice to have a compact phone again that actually fits comfortably in my hand and on my belt.

No argument here. I like it well enough, but I'm (1) a closet geek; and (2) a heavy multitasker, so given the option I'd prefer something with more screen space (I just graduated from law school, so I do a lot of reading on the go). As a phone, however, you really couldn't ask for more—the size otherwise pretty much perfect, it's relatively snappy with most applications, and once debloated the stock launcher is pretty good.
That being said, the second I see a safe way to deal with the bootloader pop up, I'm diving in, no question .
Decided to share my home screens.

Ok, so my girlfriend currently has a G2.. She got it about a month or so ago, I know her version was 4.2.2. So I looked into rooting and saw that it was possible. I'm coming from a Gnex, so root and rom is important to me. Anyway.. Now I hear that the new AT&T G2's are shipping with 4.4.2? And loki is not working currently with that so there is no way to downgrade and root? Is that the correct understanding? Also, are they shipping with 4.4.2 or is it still just an OTA update they do while in store at AT&T buying one? Because my buddy works at AT&T and if it is just the OTA, I will just have him leave it at 4.2.2 for me and root and rom it from there, since that seems much easier.
Also I saw something about a 838 firmware that currently doesn't support root?
Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks, Chris.
If it comes with 4.4 you can go back to 4.2 through download mode using this, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2663369 . Then root and install recovery. Check out http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2520419 for some videos on that. Then you can flash a modified stock 4.4 that keeps the 4.2 bootloader and root/recovery intact here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2672931. Or flash any of the many 4.2 4.4 custom roms available. There are other ways to go about this but it works for me. Just takes quite a while to download the files the first time to do it! Also, if you decide to do this and go with the stock 4.4 firmware AT&T has a small patch they're pushing now that you'll want to block. You can just freeze the software update using TiBu.
I have been liking my G2 but I would (and will soon) jump to another phone, like the M8 or N6, the dev support is decent but there are some far outstanding issues with this phone and kitkat, seems like something always not working right i.e. hotspot, auto-rotate, volume, process com, gapps errors, etc,
Not necessarily

I got my LG G2 a week ago and I'll tell you I didn't have any problems with it, however I did downgrade and put an older version of CM 10 for the D80010d on my phone, not knowing that you can upgrade while maintaining the bootloader, as described above. I did notice that my gps didn't work after that, my tethering didn't work and while using wifi hotspot I was unable to load google or facebook, meaning I can't access my e-mail from my computer. I get SSL error's on https:// sites and sometimes I can proceed anyway, while other times I can't load it at all. however these sites load fine on my phone.
Stable
My LG G2 is completely stable on latest stock ROM and CM nightly. Honestly, I haven't run into any trouble.
Remember, when you are flashing - try clearing cache.

I agree with you guys for most part phone is 95% good, don't really think it is devs fault but LG is making this phone a pain in the ass to play with, I would think with Samsung allowing the Htc One and G2 to sneak in beat their S4, LG would seize the moment to open up the phone to be truly customized. Looking at HTC One M8 forums it seems HTC is not putting up stupid barriers to rooting and stuff. Imagine a HTC Nexus 6
Anyone have an order in?
I'm very interested in it. I have a moto G4 as a back up phone. It is a non carrier specific and I find it very snappy without all the bloat. But the camera is pretty poor compared to my LG-V20 with GCAM app. Plus the V20 has the Quad DAC which gives quite nice sounding music with wired headphones, and it is rooted with Dolby Atmos for great sounding Bluetooth music. That being said, the Moto does have a head phone jack and I am sure there will be enhancements to help that in addition to Dolby or Viper add-ons. Miss my old note 4 which is what this would be like except with a 48MPX camera. And lots more memory, faster processor, and better, bigger screen. Plus a price that reflects the old days.
Wow, the phone is out and no one has one. Every phone I have bought in the past lots of people pre-ordered. I don't know if this is telling us something or the Wuhan virus is affecting sales. Just found this on the best buy website: "The phone isn't bad for the price, however Motorola has locked the device and doesn't allow the use of Wifi calling even if your carrier does." Deal breaker for me. On T-Mobile which I use for wifi calling. I travel a lot internationally and need wifi calling from the hotels I stay at. I guess I could use skype.
I received mine already.

I do not have one but have seen a similar criticism on BestBuy site about being locked and Wifi calling.. Motorola responded: The phone does support WiFi calling for carriers that choose to certify it. (For example, T-Mobile and Sprint.) It is not "locked" by Motorola.

Interesting. I wonder if you have to get it at t-mobile along with all their bloatware. I'll call them and see what they say.
Called the local TMO and they know nothing.
I have it on t mobile. Got it from best buy. It works fine with wifi calling. No special setup necessary.

Thanks!
I pre-ordered it from Best Buy, received it on release day, and I love it. I'm on Sprint and VoLTE and Wifi calling work fine on this phone, and it's the first phone I've owned that supports it (my previous Moto G5S Plus didn't).
Most people who buy phones these days don't come to XDA. I used to be a rooting/ROMing maniac, but I unrooted my previous phone (Moto G5S Plus) to get the stock Oreo update since all the 3rd party ROMs only half worked (at best) for me, and I didn't even re-root after that. I don't plan on rooting the Stylus at all.
I picked one up today after bricking my previous phone earlier in the morning. Curiously, wifi calling is not enabled on Google Fi as yet, even though they're now selling the phone too.
Just ordered one of these. Looking forward to see what development we can do for this. Rooting it shouldn't be too difficult right?

Hey all, I have had the Stylus for about a week now. I'm enjoying the phone overall. I previously had a G7 Power that I rooted following previous instructions. I did look at the instructions for the new G Power and it seems the method is the same. I tried it out on the Stylus and t seems to have worked. I am able to use Titanium back-up and Root Explorer to view the root of the device. The only thing that seems odd to me is that I cannot edit the build prop or change the name of any file in the root directory of the phone. Like I said, everything else seems to be working ok, just not sure what the issue is.
Perhaps someone with more knowledge will find a solution, but I just wanted to add what I've experienced so far with this phone.

This is where I was able to grab the firmware:
https://mirrors.lolinet.com/firmware/moto/sofiap/
I just patched the boot.img from the link above with Magisk and then fastboot flashed it to my phone, same method as the Power.
I did ask over in the G Power forum and I believe he was the one that gave me some advice regarding "fastbootd". However, it didn't seem to work. Right now I'm good with the access I have. Though it may help to figure it out in the long run.
Just make sure ROM matches build number
Download ROM and get boot.img out
Transfer to the phone and let Magisk patch it
After that, send the patched_boot back to host PC
Make sure your PC has latest ADB so it can support fastbootd
Access fastbootd in bootloader by using "fastboot reboot fastboot"
Flash patched_boot in fastbootd using "fastboot flash patched_boot.img"
Please be advised using "fastboot -w" can wipe your phone
