I was about to start a new thread asking my question, but don't like to do that until I check to see if it's been answered already. The problem with this is I'm not even confident I know the correct terms to perform a valid search.
So, here are my questions: I'm planning to buy a used Samsung Galaxy S4 (AT&T) and I want to root it. Are there "versions" on this phone that are "rootable" and "non-rootable"? Which versions are which and what do I ask the seller to identify the version- the baseband version? Are there versions that themselves are not rootable, but can be easily upgraded/downgraded to another version that IS rootable?
I have the opportunity to buy an S4 that is on 4.4.2, running baseband I337UCUFNB1. If I buy this phone is it rootable?
Can anyone tell me if these questions have been answered already and if not, where should I post the above questions? As you can see, I have a lot of them.
I'm not necessarily interested in running custom ROMs, just want root and full control over bloatware, etc.
Thanks!
Any thoughts/advice on the best way to post these questions? I'd like someone more knowledgeable about this to give me some guidance.

Hi
Users of the AT&T S4 would be best suited to answer your question.
Head on over to the Q&A for the AT&T S4 and post your question there

Good luck.

Hi,
I rooted my s2 with KG2 kernel and everything works fine.
I have the Bell version and all the ****ty applications installed.
What I want to do is to convert my s2 to the stock s2 from samsung.
I want to remove all the Bell application permanently even if I reset the phone.
Is it possible.
Thanks
It should be. You will need to dive into the GS2 forums and look for information relating to flashing a generic Samsung update onto an i9100M (if you have the Bell model). There's no difference between them except radio bands and branding, but it always pays to make doubly sure before trying anything.
If you can't find anything after a quick search, try posting your question in the GS2 Q&A section so you can get a more specialised response. Make sure to have a quick look first, though
Good luck!
Hey guys, I'm currently running a ROM and I want to switch, I'm finding a lot I like on here, but they're just in the general S3 section. If I flash a rom, does it have to be in the Verizon section? How do I know what roms can work for my Verizon S3?

I'll be nice but others might not be. These forums are divided up for a reason so if you like your phone, stick to the ROMS for your specific device. If you have a S3 I535 for Verizon, then stick to the Verizon forums. Any ROM SHOULD flash to your phone as long as you stick to the instructions in the op. I mean this, read the OP thoroughly before you flash a new ROM and follow the instructions exactly as the dev says. And welcome to XDA> Also, Google is your best friend when in doubt or if you screw up. Just because this is Q&A, doesn't mean you will always get an answer.
Good luck and happy flashing.
These types of threads usually get little or no attention. Both of your questions are common sense questions since you're supposed to flash only carrier specific roms in the first place to avoid hardware bricks and you suppose to flash them yourself to see how the roms work on your phone plus to see if you like the rom. All the roms work but you can still encounter random problems.
I recently bought a Samsung Multi Media dock that I finally got to work reliably. I'm not impressed with the experience so I want to flash my phone over to a custom rom so I can tweak settings (and recover from it if I screw it up). I used to have a custom rom on my last phone but since I had to replace it when Cricket nuked their CDMA network I'm stuck with a stock Samsung Galaxy S4, with touchwiz- I hate touchwiz.
My brother kind of held my hand when my phone was first flashed over to CyanogenMod, a more accurate description was that he sabotaged it giving me little reason not to flash a custom image, so I'm still a bit new at this. I've gone threw the forums with the intent of reading up on weather I can and how I should go about flashing my phone. Problem is that I can't find anything that directly relates to the version of the firmware I have and I don't know if its compatible with any of the methods on the table.
I'm rightfully terrified of bricking my phone. I at least want some encouragement of reading about people with a success rate with an identical device before I go off and potentially brick my phone, if I do brick my phone I want it to be completely my fault because I plan on reading every guide and forum thread twice just to make sure I don't miss a nuance of the process.
Anyway,
i have a Galaxy S4, SGH-I337Z
Build #: KOT49H.i337zTUUBOA1
Android Ver- 4.4.2
security software ver: mdf v1.0 Rel 2
any combination of that information just points me to similar threads with no 100% (or even 50%) identical information. I've got three threads open in tabs rite now that say things about MD3 or MK2 firmware and I have no idea if I have those or not.
Anyway I'm hoping someone can find the info I'm to blind to find myself.
Thanks in advance!
Ryo
Hi there,
Best answers you will receive in the dedicated forum for this device, see bellow, but first you need to register an aacount on XDA for full access.
Here's few discussions about your device:

Hi All,
Just wondering if there are any custom ROMS here on XDA that can be flashed to the 920W (Canadian) version of the S6?
It's been a while since I've had a "regional" type device (Going all the way back to my S3) as usually I opt for the International version of devices.
That being said, I don't recall how careful I have to be when flashing a ROM that may have been made for a different regional version device.
Also... What is the best way to root the S6? I've heard lots about PING-PONG and how it won't trip KNOX but any advice is appreciated!
Thanks in advance from a Senior Member who feels like a NOOB all over again... lol...
Thanks,
PS... If I've posted in the wrong place please accept my apology... ☺
You're a senior member with almost two thousand posts and you still managed to ask your question in the wrong section...
T-Mobile ROMs can be flashed without the need for the audio fix, the same applies to AT&T ROMs.
Thanks to a few developers in the TMO section, you can now flash International ROMs along with a specific few kernels, or any kernel of your choice and a flashable patch for the call audio fix.
Lol... Ya I know but to be fair I did post in the Q&A section with no answers at all so I thought I'd try here... ? Thanks for the info...
Questions belong in Q&A.
Thank you.
So If I understand right, I can flash any at&t or t-mobiles roms for my g920w model?
Hi, sorry for posting a thread that's likely already been answered, I tried looking through the forums and I'm lost. I used to be really into the custom ROM scene and whatnot back in the galaxy S2, but haven't really been at it in a while.
So I bought my fancy new S6 Edge G295W8, and I'm looking at how I can go about safely rooting it. I checked CF-root but I didn't see my model number, it seems like samsung's adding in more and more model variations every generation. I'm also on a carrier that isn't mentioned specifically under the S6 forums, so that adds to the confusion. So what's a good and safe root to use? I'm still familiar with odin and flashing as pda and whatnot, so I won't need a tutorial on that, just a good starting point at a thread with a root that'll work for me.
And another minor question, any good ROM recommendations? How's the cyanogenmod support for my model? Are there any good clean roms with the edge features still intact?
Thanks in advance for your help, much appreciated.
bump?
