Hello, it seems that new lollipop build b532 keeps changing sms app back to default (huawei contacts) even if the new app (choms sms) is set as default in the default app menu in settings (tha app is additionally set to be 'trusted').
What's going on here??
Each time I leave my phone for a while, my default application is changed to huawei one:-/
Is there any way to set it once for all to 3rd party app?
Have you tried adding it to protected apps? So it doesn't close after you turn off your screen.

yes, didn't help
Hmm... It would be a bit risky, but what would happen if you froze/disable (or even uninstall, but make a backup of the apk) the Huawei messaging app?
unfortunately it's not possible as the app is also dialer and contacts manager (all at once:/)

Hi guys,
I just got turned on to GO SMS PRO today, and I really love the functionality and customization. Problem is, I just rooted my Verizon Galaxy Nexus and installed Jelly Bean, and I completely dig the new notifications. I tried turning off notifications on GO SMS, and setting it as the default send and view program..which allows me to only receive notifications from the stock SMS app, but when I click that notification, it opens up with the stock as well, even though GO SMS is the default view program. Is there any way around this or is it an all or nothing situation? I'd really appreciate any help I can get! Thanks!

Change the name of the stock messaging app, or company remove it from system apps using root explorer
If you wish to remove it, I'd copy and paste it elsewhere in your sd card so you have it later if desired.
It looks like the app already has that ability. From the changelog:
V4.56 Update (2012-7-20)
1.Add Premium Feature Pack (Find Phone, local backup SMS/MMS/private box, etc) in application center
2.Add sync Facebook contact photos (Premium feature)
3.Add backup/restore MMS (Premium feature)
4.Add option to set default SMS program (in Settings->Basic)
5.Optimize My Location plug-in
6.Optimize Facebook binding with GO Chat
7.Fix security lock issue in ICS
8.Fix number lock issue in JB (Android 4.1)
9.Fix ring choice, notification issues in JB
Thanks for the responses guys!

I actually couldn't find the stock messaging app in root explorer! I looked up messaging, SMS, and nothing came up..not sure what else it would be under. But if I did that, would it actually force the stock notification to open up with GO SMS, or would it just prevent it from opening with the stock app?

Thank you, but I believe number 4 is just referring to the option to set GO SMS as the default SMS program..I have that set, but still when I click on the stock notification, it opens up in the stock messaging app. Lame!
Thanks again guys!
Same problem here...
hi, wonder if anyone can help, i hope i dont have to wipe and flash again.
I recently flashed Wicked rom v7 on SSGS4 (SGH-M919), and when flashing I chose to include the google camera app.
I am also using the AOSP lock screen so when I swipe left from the lock screen it goes straight to camera. I was trying different camera apps and setting the default camera that launches from the lock screen, and for all the other cameras I was able to go to app manager and clear the defaults. However, the google camera does not show up in my app manager, so after I set it to the default camera I cannot clear that default, now I am stuck with the google camera as my default.
I tried downloading that app "Default app manager" but it also does not see the google camera app. Tried turning off the AOSP lock screen (from the wicked rom manager) and turning back on, and the google camera is still set as default. also tried searching forums and google but cannot seem to find anything.
Any idea where this default setting is actually stored, like is there a file somewhere either in the app folder or a system folder that stores this setting, that I am able to manually clear?
thanks
OK after much messing around I figured it out, the Camera app is called photosphere.apk because they named it after its new feature. can't figure out how to delete this thread so I'll just post the answer.
using Root Browser for android, I had to go into /system/app, and make a backup copy and then delete Photosphere.apk - that is the app that contains the 4.3 Camera and gallery (and its icon is the gallery icon). then restart the phone, set a new default camera app, then copy photosphere.apk back into the /system/app folder and restart.
Hi all;
I used to have NS toggle, NS Shortcuts and Tuffs applications before with my old smpartphones and Android 5.1.1.
These shortcut methods also could do the direct dial with your favorite contacts. But on MAte 8 it cannot be with any of theese apps.
I let the permissions for launching telephone and making calls but ıt says can not and does not do anything. Nova launcer also can not do the direct call.
I want my favorites on notification drawer. I know shortcuts may be done on the home screen but not the same thing. I want to scroll down the notification drawer and see my favorite contacts there with 3 of theese apps. And ith just one click dial them.
What permission or what app may be problematic? Is that an EMUI issue? Why does a third party app can not have permission to call a contact directly.
Thanks.
This widget makes direct call from my launcher (Nova).
Free, no ads.

This is from homescreen.
What i said is from notification drawer. It creates the shortcut. But when you click ıt doesnt call. At the same drawer any other shortcut is working. Like Whatsapp, gallery etc any other.

IMHO these apps can't have direct dial permission as they aren't telephony type apps, only shortcut making apps.
Android 6.0 is much more restrictive on permissions available based on the app type.
But it was not like tihs in Lolipop. That is the 6.0 ristriction i understand?

I think it's a more restrictive Marshmallow operation mode.
If an app doesn't explicitly require a particular permission, this permission will be automatically negated.
Permissions requested by an app can be negated by the user, but new ones cannot be granted.
You can see all available permissions for an app in the app setting menu (all permissions), check if direct call authorization is listed.
Edit:
I checked Tuff's permissions in Google Play store and "directly call phone numbers" is listed as available for current version 2.5 (February 24, 2016)
Hi,
I've checked again but no way. Quick dial doesnt work. Quick SMS works but interestingly.
I have attached 2 photos. When i click Home it does nothing.

Any more suggesitons?
Go to Launcher3 in Settings - App and grant permission to phone.
Direct dial widget that works on Nova (and other launchers)
Hi,
To circumvent this problem with the direct-call widget some people recommended Speeddial.apk (see at the beginning of this thread). The free version only lets you create dial-contacts while the pro version also allows sms-contacts. But since SMS widgets already work (they use a different app to actually direct-text) the free version is sufficient. The only problem of Speeddial is its big storage requirements and the regular nagging to obtain the pro-version.
A much better alternative IMHO that is completely free is Quickdial.apk. This is widget-app is only limited to dialer-shortcuts but it only requires 384kB instead o/t +2MB of the other app. Beware that some people might not like the look of QuickDial's widgets.

Hello, guys. Today i decided to download google dialer patched from another xda post. So i installed it, granted all permissions but i cant change it to default dialer app and i dont know why. Can someone help me? I want it to set it to default coz i want stock android 8 dialing screen. Thanks ?
Go to settings---> apps ----> default apps. Choose Google dialer as default app for dialer
As above ..
I'm setting up a Huawei P10 Plus for someone and I'm a little rusty on Android. It's running the latest version of their EMUI software, 9.1.0 on Android Version 9.
I'm also using the latest version of Nova Launcher.
What i've done is this ..
Long press home screen.
Select "Widgets"
Scroll down to "Contacts" and select "Quick Message".
Long press on that and drag to home screen.
Choose contact.
When I tap the newly created widget, it always opens up the stock android messaging app regardless of what i've got set as my default SMS app. If I go to Settings->Apps->Default Apps and select "Textra", which is the preferred SMS option of the person i'm setting the phone up for, I get the usual warning but I tap on "Change" anyway.
I've tried installing Chomp and Pulse SMS and setting them as the default app and it still always uses the stock messaging app for the widget.
Am I doing anything wrong ?. Thanks.
Thanks for all the replies, It's taken me this long to get through them all ..
Anyway, I've fixed it. It turns out that the contacts app that I was using was the default Huawei one, so it didn't have the functionality to create the direct messaging widgets.
I installed the default google contacts app from the play store and I can now create the widgets exactly as I need. I'm happy for this thread to be closed now, but thanks again the the huge outpouring of support and suggestions ..
