HTC One Verizon TWRP issue - Verizon HTC One (M8)

hello all,
I need some help here; never seen this before and it's wierd.
I got a replacement HTC OneM8 (Verizon) yesterday, today I tried to setup with a copy of my Viper rom (5.01) but phone came with Android 4.4.4 so I did the following:
• used "sunshine" to unlock the bootloader and install SuperSU.
• install TWRP version 2.8.7.0
• backup stock rooted rom
• install lollipop vzw firmaware
all the steps completed successfully
Now my phone is all weird:
If I boot to bootloader it works fine but if I select "recovery" phone goes to TWRP Recovery v2.8.6.1 FROM here (recovery) any option that I choose to reboot the phone reboots to TWRP v2.8.7 even if I asked to reboot system.
I can never boot to the phone itself (system).
I want to completely remove TWRP 2.8.7 and keep TWRP v2.8.6.1
I already tried to flash the recovery over (was successful) but I'm still with this issue.

This should be moved to Q&A section not Development.
But I would run the latest RUU.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/ver...zw-m8-master-ruu-firmware-collection-t2946473
then re-flash (I suggest fastboot) TWRP recovery 2.8.6.1

Flash the firmware.. Has stock recovery. If it boots to twrp after that, you're doing it wrong.

the first couples times I did, I choose the firmware "m8vzw_AllInOne_Firmware" and " 4.17.605.9 Modified Firmware ".... both did not work in my case but then I did again with full wipe firmware "4.17.605.9 Full Firmware" and did work.... I didn't have nothing on my phone anyway so, the full firmware which wiped worked..
Thanks

Can't Access TWRP Recovery

Hi guys, I flashed the latest factory image, then flashed the latest TWRP but can access it 1 out of 10 tries.. What am I doing wrong? Is it a faulty replacement phone? Never had this issue with my other nexus 5 (same recovery file but lollipop and not marshmallow) and now I have this problem.. Tried to riflashato the factory image 5 times, boot to recovery without installing but nothing changed.. Thanks in advance!
If you just just flashed TWRP, then booted into Android, then reboot into recovery.. Android will overwrite TWRP with the stock recovery.

This is not really a fix, since to use Flashify one needs to be rooted already.
What I did to work around this was reflash LMY48M. After reflashing that, fastboot correctly boots/flashes twrp.
I've read that the issue arises when trying to boot and/or flash twrp with MRA56K installed, AND the device is connected to USB.
Ok, i got some of problems here, i tryied to root my Nexus 5 with other Android 6 version, it was the first one launched after development version. Now i have MRA58K version.
Problem 1 : I have no stock recovery, i first rooted original version of Marshmallow with CWM and i soft bricked, so no backup, no factory images. Installed MRA58K and there is no stock recovery, thanks god i can use bootloader. I can install TWRP, but i want to install the old recovery, Tell me how to do it.
Problem 2: Actual version of Marshmallow ask me to install a patch, but when installing i got stuck in TWRP, it cant install it (yes, android was rooted, but i installed twrp before root, and the update were before it.)
Thanks.
You can flash a stock ROM using the flash-all file in a command prompt. This will install stock ROM with stock recovery. Make sure the phone has an unlocked bootloader and you should be fine.
Official OTA updates cannot be installed with a custom recovery.
I tryied 3 times to install OS with flash-all. All the problems start after i installed CWM and try to root the phone, but after that, i used a stock rom image that was different build than actually one.
I`m not sure yet who`s fault is.
Any ideas?
I don't recommend using CWM, only TWRP.
After you flash TWRP always boot into it, and since you're flashing a custom recovery I'm going to assume you don't care about OTA's, swipe to allow system to be mounted. TWRP will automatically patch the system to survive android trying to overwrite it. Reboot into TWRP a second time to be safe. TWRP should stick from now on until you flash over it or restore stock system partition.
Yes, now i have TWRP as recovery, but i want to replace it with stock recovery.
Problem is, when i upload stock recovery and try to boot in recovery mode, i got the green dead android with red triangle.
But after TWRP uploading and booting in recovery mode, TWRP is there..
I really don`t know what`s wrong.
Flash stock recovery, select recovery from the fastboot menu, hold the power button and press volume up button.

[SOLVED] TWRP 3.0.2 bootloop

Hello everyone.
I had a problem flashing TWRP on my Google Nexus 5, or better the problem comes when I try to enter the recovery.
I followed this pattern from stock android 6.0.1 with august security patch:
1) unlock bootloader
2) downloaded lastest TWRP (3.0.2 hammerhead) recovery from the official website
3) flash it with "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img"
Until this point everything's alright but then when I unplug my phone from the laptop and click on enter recovery something strange happens.
I can see the TWRP boot image but as soon as I go in I see tons of errors related to "cannot mount ..." and some partitions name like /data, /cache, and then starts the bootloop without let me any chance to do something. Sorry but I can't see every error beacuse this happen too fast.
Any idea on what is going on?
I've tried the TWRP 3.0.1 but is the same shuold I go down or maybe I have to change it beacuse of compatibily issues with the monthly patches?
Thank you for your help, I hope I explained my problem clearly.
After unlocking the bootloader, phone wipe all data? Did you reboot after unlocking bootloader?

No I've just unlocked and then tryied to flash the recovery without wipe.
But data is already wiped by unlocking the bootloader isn't it?
Anyway thanks for your reply as soon as I can I'll try what you have written.
Yes, the data should be automatically wiped. Try TWRP 2.87. If the phone still doesn't boot into TWRP, reflash stock recovery, flash userdata.img, immediately boot into stock recovery using the button combo without rebooting, perform a factory wipe, reboot into fastboot, and flash TWRP again.

Thank you so much for telling me to flash the 2.8.7, i've choosen the 2.8.7.1 without success (it did't flash i don't know why) but then after another wipe all I've flashed the 2.8.7.0 and it seems to work.
The only thing I would like to ask now is: I'm going to flash superSU and elementalX over stock AOSP (I don't want custom ROM for now) and can this recovery cause problem because of it is not the last update?
Thank you again for the answer!
I have not tried 2.87 with Elemental X. The only way to determine whether it will work would be to try it. I recommend creating a nandroid backup before flashing Elemental so you can restore if something goes wrong.
TWRP Restore problem
Hi, I have an issue with the resotre of TWRP...
Here's what I did:
-Downloaded the latest OTA image https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/ota
-Downloaded latest SuperSU http://download.chainfire.eu/supersu-stable
-Downloaded latest ElementalX http://elementalx.org/devices/nexus-5/
-reboot to TWRP
Choose OTA, then SuperSU, then ElementalX
Luunch the restore..
And my screen is "blocked" from 5 hours on Install Zip 1 of 3.
"blocked" means doesn't move to the Zip2 but the clock is moving... the screen is locking itself after few seconds and I am able to unlock it...
Any idea how to exit properly ?
I have rebooted...deleted all my music... (I think that the issue may come from insufficient disk space) and relaunched...
Will see...

Hi, I've have successfully installed the last OTA update but not with zip file, instead I downloaded the factory image and flashed with fastboot boot.img and system.img (also vendor.img if you have one) then rebooted into TWRP and installed the lastest ElementalX and SuperSU.
I'm not sure but I think that factory image zip file are not installable via recovery but only with the flash-all that comes with them. This script use fastboot to flash everything you need of the factory image
You can find this procedure on the ElementalX website, here is the link hope it can help out: http://elementalx.org/how-to-install-android-monthly-security-updates/
Finally... I installed CM13 and ElementalX... in some minutes ...
I suppose the the problem was in my zip file...

Can't boot into recovery mode, maybe something went wrong while updating TWRP to 3.0.2 but can boot into fastboot.
also had backup of previous rom but since i can't boot into TWRP now so can't restore it. Earlier on TWRP 2.8.6 i was getting zip file execution error while restoring/installing new ROM.
So for now i have only access to fastboot mode, how to proceed futher?

You have 2 options you can flash the stock rom and recovery via fastboot here is a guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/general/guide-return-opo-to-100-stock-t2826541 (Just skip step 4 don't relock the bootloader specially if you want to install TWRP) Make sure you download the correct file there is a 64gb and a 16gb listed in this guide or you can download the stock file straight from cynogen OS here https://cyngn.com/support
Or you can reinstall TWRP via fastboot by downloading TWRP here https://dl.twrp.me/bacon/ and install your backup if its still there. If its not there you can either download and install any custom rom you want or if you want the stock rom go with option 1 above and then re-install twrp. (Always remeber after installing TWRP don't fully boot into the system or you will loose TWRP, boot straight to recovery once its done flashing TWRP by holding the power button and volume down. )

Thank you Durso81,

Thanks for your time & effort for a beginner.

Can't install Custom Roms.

Alright, so its without wasting time of people here, I'd just state the summary in points.
I flashed stock rom a.17 - I had custom roms before, I got fed up with them changing every 2 months.
Then everything worked fine until I flashed the boot.img from vishal_android_freak to get recovery.
I got the twrp recovery 2.7.0.0.
I flashed AOSP 6.0.1 through it, it was done very well but the rom stuck on boot animation for more then 30 mins.
I pulled the battery out - now I had TWRP 2.8.4.0
I tried flashing the rom again, it gave /data error.
I flashed stock rom, rooted then tried other methods of getting recovery, I failed everytime (Tried from TWRP app, su dd command, Recovery installer app )
Then I found a CWM boot.img to flash through fastboot.
I did and got CWM.
I flashed AOSP again from it, it stuck on boot animation again.
Then again I flashed stock rom and repeated the process.
This time with CWM, I flashed Stryflex LP Ultimate
It also stuck on boot animations.
Any idea why this happens? How to fix this ****?
Summary: Only stock rom works, not any other rom.

I think, that means bootloader is unlocked again! Recheck bootloader state and always use latest TWRP recovery (v3.0.2 for us).
You can download Xperia L recovery from twrp website and then use your current v2.8.4 one to install that. Or just simply use adb & fastboot in your PC and enter this command:
Code:
fastboot flash boot [I]your recovery image name.img[/I]
. And then flash your desired ROM

Oh Man, you saved my day! nothing worked but the damnit twrp 3.0.2
For anyone else referring here:
I get hell lot of graphical glitches when I flashed twrp 3.0.2, I just made it to factory reset and click install button although my screen was glitched and I cant even look at it.
JUST IGNORE THE GLITCHES! I wiped dalvik cache after flashing AOSP-RRO, now I'm flashing Lineage OS, thanks a lot! Button pressed.

Did TWRP 3.0.2 ultimately work with this?
If worked, I am also curious to know how much space is left there for apps in device memory, since the ROM seems to be Marshmallow based.

Unlocked Bootloader, S Off but Cannot Install TWRP

I'm running the stock at&t ROM with Android 6. I've successfully unlocked the Bootloader, and have taken S Off (paid SunShine!)
When I boot into Recovery Mode I cannot install from SD without getting a Signature Error. When I attempt to flash TWRP via ADB/Fastboot the bootloader will freeze at prompting the Recovery Mode (only way to overcome is to reflash stock rom).
Any ideas? Was hoping to install LineageOS as I read at&t won't be issuing an OTA for HTC as they've discontinued offering the brand.
Set download mode. Then flash twrp with fastboot command. Fastboot flash recovery twrp.img Should workout just fine.

Perhaps its the version of TWRP you are trying to install? Maybe you might have to try an older version since your on 6.0....?
Also, I have the same AT&T device (unlocked bootloader, but S-ON) and am curious about installing custom bootloader/ROM on this device.
Let us know if/when your able to solve it!
So, I downloaded the Windroid Toolkit at https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2499926 but now I can't get passed the HTC boot screen. I installed Lineage OS, did Wipe Dalvik Cache, then installed Gapps. But no desktop after install. HELP!
