[Q] Screen shakes/jitters vertically - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My Nexus 5 is showing some pretty disturbing vertical screen shaking... look at the video below to have an idea.
Any idea what may be causing it? I did not drop the phone recently. It just started happening out of the blue. I notice it gets worse the more you use it (maybe related to heat? But the phone is no hotter than usual). For example, leave it for a few hours, and the screen works fine... until about 5-10 minutes later when the problem comes back. And if I continue using it, the shaking becomes worse to the point it's impossible to type/see anything anymore.
I did some searching and it looks like it could be the dock flex cable giving the issue. Can someone link me to a reputable seller who sells proper flex cables for the Nexus 5? I saw a few on Amazon but most of them have rather dissuading reviews.
Thanks guys.

Anyone?

Got same issue. Replace USB component inside the phone. That fixed mine.

Yes, that's the flex part. Can't tell if the ones sold in eBay/amazon are the original or OEM parts, you should check the feedback/buyer's reviews.

Thanks for the help. Sadly none of the well-reviewed sellers on Amazon ship to my country, so I got it off eBay... one of the sellers with 98%+ ratings. The thing with eBay is that there are so many sellers with these 98/99% ratings that kind of just defeat the purpose of the ratings, and these same sellers DO sell fakes too. But I just got one and hope it works.
The screen just gets worse and worse each day. My phone is now unusable after about 1 minute of use.

I have the same issue and the flex cable replacement didn't work for me...it flickers in Safe Mode, after a reset and with Android 6 or 5, both of which I flashed from Googles download page.
Interestingly it doesn't flicker in recovery...
Stability Test app gave no screen problems testing the CPU, but flickered like a mad thing testing the GPU..
GPU Benchmark 3D however was super smooth and flicker free...very confusing.
Have you had any luck finding a solution?

that's for the Desire isn't it?
I guess it's better waiting until China DHD launches for good accessories
Yeah, you can usually find these things on eBay for pennies. Maybe in a week or two...
I have one of these that I occasionally use for my G1. It isnt amazing and charges very slowly, but with a high quality battery it should help a little on the go!

Do not you think a direct charger like Energizer XP8000 instead of externa battery charger?

Ok I'm in as well
i found this one
ebay Item number: 120640014972 (new users aka me cannot post external links )
which is a battery powered portable charger rated at 5000maH and charges the battery in the phone.
that battery cover worries me so i dont want to have to open it too often. also it means you dont have to wait for the device to reboot. not sure how accurate that 5000mah is, but i should be able to fit that and my phone in my pocket for a couple of hours to charge.
not ideal, but i dont trust non-brand batteries, especially if im importing them from china since i have no legal comeback if it explodes in my phone because they are not a UK company.
This is the link -

It does look really good actually. I like that you can charge two devices at one too. Anyone have any experience of these? I think I'll order one...
Mobilefun do one for around £20 that docks the phone and has a slot for a spare battery to charge aswell. Not in stock last I looked, but ill be buying one of those.

Man that really sucks. At least I think my phone is still salvagable (knock on wood). I dropped my phone after having it only one week and shattered the screen. I installed a new $70.00 screen after a lot of work removing all the broken glass and everything went well until I tried to connect the antenna connector to the motherboard and ended up pulling the connector off the cable.

Just curious, not criticizing. Why did you pay $70 just for the part when LG will replace the front of the phone with digitizer for around $70 and the work is done by an LG factory trained tech? You have to wait a couple of weeks but worth it to get an OEM part and the job done right. The parts on eBay are not OEM even though they claim them to be. They are usually Chinese made substandard ripoff parts.
The price for the LG service repair of the digitizer and front of phone is what people who sent it in to LG paid for service. There are many threads regarding this from about three or four months ago if you search the forums. People said turnaround time was about two weeks.
All the people on eBay and the Chinese parts sites claim OEM but almost none of them are. Do you really believe HTC, LG, Samsung etc are going to sell their genuine parts to these people? Heck no! You are lucky if the quality of your screen is good as many of these parts that are claimed to be OEM are pure crap.
Try Gazelle.com. I've seen them sell phones on Ebay that are worse off then this. So maybe they will give you $75-$100 or something.
Wups, didn't see the previous post until after I replied.
Also why would T-Mobile not offer you there $50 unlimited talk/text and 100mb of internet plan or $60 for 2gig's of internet. That sounds weird. Also you could of got there $30 unlimited talk or $30 100 minute talk and 5 gig's of data.

i figured since the 3 people who ordered their other Qi charger were satisfied that i would give this one a shot...it's a decent price and i like the looks...and it has a buzzer as well as an LED to let you know when it's done charging
Let us know how this one pans out.
I bought one of the DT-900's (on sale).. it worked great for 2 days.. and I haven't been able to get it to work since with my N4 (still works fine with my N7).
Only thing that really interests me on this one is the 1A charge, seems like that would definitely be on the high end for Qi chargers.
All of those pictures are CGI. I would wait for real photographs.

I´ve just got it. Looks nice and works well, BUT it plays a moderately loud sound when you put your nexus to charge. This is very annoying because i use it when i go to sleep and awakes my wife.
Obviously i am not going to risk my marriage for an iq charger Anyone knows how to disable the sound? I´ve opened it, but i´ve found no buzzer in the circuit. I don´t mind breaking the buzzer if needed.

After a minor fall, my screen is as good as dead

Hi there, just thought I would share this with you and ask what you think.
So, I have a Moto G 3rd (bought it a month ago), I quite liked it and was a good upgrade from my original Moto G. However, I never expected it to be so fragile. After one small fall (like 30 cm) my screen seems to be completely messed. I mean the display, as outside the phone is just fine, no cracks or anything, and it was the first time I dropped it. Here's a picture:

This is really disapointing, and I'm in complete shock, as probably warranty won't cover it and the phone was a major investment for me. Has any of you had a similar experience? Is the moto G not as resistant has it once was? The original one could take a LOT of damage, and it just dying like this on me breaks my heart.
So, what should I do? I contacted Motorola on the website and after a long talk they basically just told me to go to the store where I bought it, which I'll do thursday (it's far from where I live), but I fear they won't offer help. If they don't, is there a way to still send it to Motorola and pay for the repairs? I've tried china replacements on other phones and was never quite satisfied, and this is a new phone :/
Thanks for reading, needed to share my pain!
That's exactly what happened to my previous phone (samsung galaxy s3 neo). Screen was ok, also because it was protected by a tempered glass, but the lcd broke and only showed a few purple lines.
Unfortunately, the outside screen spare was quite cheap (30 euros) while the lcd repair was 120 euros, so I decided to buy the moto. A bumper should protect from this kind of accident.
I'm afraid it's bad news.
Hi guys, just here for a quick update.
I went back to the store and since the device was in very good shape they sent it to warranty and said it could go off has a gpu fault.
I'll update when I, hopefully, get it back!

Great news, let's keep finger crossed and hope they can fix it for free.
Hi again!
Just here to tell you guys I got my phone back and the repair was covered by warranty! Hope my story helps if anyone runs into similar trouble. It was fairly quick too! (2 weeks)
Bear in mind my phone only had 1 month and was in really good shape (no scratches).

My thoughts on the Orzly Type-C Cables

With there now being a clear distinguished line between what cables are certified and what aren't by Benson Leung, shopping for additional Type-C Cables is a little easier. So as I was after a new set of cables for my Nexus 6P, I was mainly looking for a pack that offered the best value for money.
I came across this Orzly quad pack on Amazon.co.uk for only £17.99 with free delivery so works out to about £4.50 per cable which is a bargain. I probably don't need all 4 cables, but it's nice to have spares if I ever lose or want to keep one at work.
I've tested these myself using the CheckR and Current Monitor app and all the cables pass with flying colours. I may just be repeating what many of you might know already but I thought it would be good to share my opinions and experiences with these cables on here.
Overall the build quality of the cables is really nice, robust and don't look like either ends will start to fall apart after some use. Would highly recommend these to anyone looking for additional Type-C Cables.

You're lucky! I missed that deal but still thought these cables are great value for money and work great!
I bought this exact 4-pack from Orzly for $15, received them just about a month ago, and now they are all broken. The USB-C connector first would bend, then would break off completely. I've emailed them and am waiting to hear back. Curious how they hold up for others who got these.

Yup Very frustrating, because after the first two broke I figured I must have been doing something to stress the connecter (even though I've never had this issue with any other cable on any other device over any length of time). So, I consciously babied the remaining two and they still broke the same way. It was definitely not user error . . . these things were defective, is all I can think. Maybe the ones I got were from a bad production run or something . . .? I don't know, but as mentioned I emailed them via Amazon to see what was up. Ideally they would send me a new 4-pack that weren't defective, but who knows. I'll update if I hear back.
