3rd party texting apps - Samsung Gear S2

Just a quick question for Gear S2 users. Do you have to use the built-in text application on your phone in order to send/receive txt messages on the watch or can you use a third party txt messaging app on your phone and still interact? I use textsecure and I am wondering if I will be able to use the texting features of the watch or not.

I use textra and it works great. I can reply to texts without issue
Sent from one of my many devices.

I've used Google Messages, whatsapp, Handcent and hangouts and all work.

Can't use chomp sms

any 3rd party texting apps that you can access text history from the Gear?

[Q] Other SMS apps?

When ever I seem to search good SMS apps on Google, I'm just getting stuff like WhatsApp, which isn't SMS.
I don't like hangouts being part of SMS.
I like Textra myself.
Handcent sms.
I don't use it myself.

You could try Facebook Messenger.
Go to settings in the app --> click SMS/MMS --> Activate to receive and send SMS
Maybe you like it, maybe you don't. I do like it a lot and I think it' worth trying out!
You can find the app in Google Play.
Android 4.1 JB Messaging SMS looks just like SMS did on the N4, down side is that MMS doesn't work in the app.
One of my favourite updates in KitKat is personally the hangouts texting integration. Much nicer interface.

Helo, I have a SW2, but I miss notifications :(

Hi all, I have a SW2 with a Galaxy Note 3.
I love SW2, but I miss a lot of notifications.
I would like to view on the watch all the emails I receive (I have 3 Gmail account + 1 Gapps account).
With GMAIL extensions, sometimes I get notifications, sometimes I do not get them... above all on my Gapps account. How to solve?
Moreover: I use hangouts both for SMS and chat.
If I receive 2 SMS and 3 chat, I can read on the phone (using WatchIt): you have 5 notifications, but I cannot read neither the SMSes nor the Chats.
Same thing with Whatsapp: I cannot read the text, I can read only: "You have a new whatsapp message" (or similar).
I have different ringtones, so I already know if I have a Whatsapp, SMS, Hangout or other message.
Is there a way to read them all on the watch?
Which app should I use?
Whatchit does not seem ti permit it.
Thanks in advance

How to reply to Google Hangouts from the Gear S2

Just bought the watch today and so far I'm liking it. I realized that some people were posting you could not reply to Hangouts messages from the watch and after searching over some old threads on another forum I found one about the Gear S where some guy said that after installing the Android Wear app from the Play Store all of a sudden he could now reply to Hangouts messages through his watch. It didn't make sense why that would work, but I downloaded Android Wear to my phone to check it out anyways. Miraculously now I'm able to reply to Hangouts messages from the watch just like you can from the messaging app, etc. And best of all since I use Google Voice for all of my calls and SMS messages through Hangouts for all of my text messages, when I reply to a hangout from my watch it shows up on the other persons phone. If I could only figure out a way to get all of the Google Voice alias numbers for my contacts I could make all incoming/outgoing calls and texts from my phone AND watch use my Google Voice number...

Multiple SMS Apps at once?

Currently on OPO Cyanogen CM13, 6.0.1
Been having this issue with SMS apps lately, perhaps I'm too picky, but have been looking for a good app that has chat heads and does it as well as Facebook's Messenger.
Now, I believe as of June, Messenger rolled out its new SMS integration allowing you to not only use it for Facebook messaging, but for SMS as well. Great. Too bad I've been so used to the amazing customization of Textra for nearly 2 years.
Messenger is severely lacking so far in terms of customization. It doesn't really jive well with the theme of my phone. (Boohoo right?)
Now, the issue arises in trying to send Facebook SMS and Textra SMS at the same time. Facebook SMS doesn't wake the screen, or have colored icons or chats, something I paid money for to have in textra.
I'm faced with needing to pick a default SMS for the sending app. I can receive notifications on both. But how can I bypass the sending option?
Reason being, I'm willing to part with the base part of textra if I can get the notifications to work, and send my SMS from fb messenger.
Tldr: I want to be able to send SMS from Facebook messenger and textra at the same time without switching default SMS apps.
Or send SMS from fb messenger and receive notifications only on textra.
Here's to never settling.

Integration with Android phone apps compatibility: Whatsapp, Viber, Gmail,....

Hi
I like to get your feedback. I have a ASUS watch (Zen 2), off course using Android Wear. I like the integration with many Android apps like Whatspps, Viber, Hotmail, Gmail, Twiter, Google Maps, Spotyfy, almost any apps, even my bank account. The question is if I can have the same functionality with the Gear S3, based on Tizen? I mean the functionality to see the messages on the watch and even reply them.
Or if is just only a matter to have installed Android Wear on the phone?
I'll appreciate your comments.
Thanks.
I don't have any issue with notification from Viber or Watchapp,Gmail and replying directly from the smartwatch.
I'm also having Zenwatch 3 and functionality is the same.
Once you receive a whatsapp message on the S3 and read it, it's gone. So you can't reply again unless you receive another message.
There is a very good app called notification wear which you can get from the play store.
When you receive a message, it stores it.Even when you delete a whatsapp message it still stores the person who sent the message so you can reply at anytime.
You can setup which message apps you want to receive like facebook, Viber, gmail and so on.
You get 20 free messages after that you need to pay for the premium app. But it's only £1.70 and worth it.
