Hi,
I apologize in advance if this has been discussed elsewhere, but I was wondering why, if I wanted to use the stock Google Camera application instead of the default it doesn't let me go higher than 8 MP when the camera is a 23 MP and is clearly it is selectable on the default app. BTW from everyones experience what are the best alternatives.
Thanks

HTC Camera is dope, try it.
Also try Open Camera.
Sony intentionally limited the camera with 3rd party apps
You can shoot in 20mp but you lose camera2 which means Iso becomes emulated again
(as a customer i think this is stupid)
Sent from my Xperia Z5 using XDA-Developers Legacy app
Yes, same with all camera apps, stock rom or not as far I have tried
REMINDERS
Before I start, I would like to give some reminders on using ported GCam on any phone other than a Pixel:
1) Full resolution is not guaranteed. I don't know why this is the case, but the leading explanation is that Pixels have 12MP sensors instead of 16MP. See this thread for details.
2) This is pretty much trial-and-error. The APKs I have suggested may not work, since different developers make different tweaks on different versions of their APKs. It also doesn't help that there's no APK created specifically for the ZenFone 3, which means we have to rely on APKs made for other devices.
3) Thanks to Celso Azevedo for providing a very clean mirror of all APKs, which allowed me to try A LOT (think 20+) APKs.
What works:
GCAM 5
GCam 5 is very stable, so almost any GCam 5 APK is going to work. This includes fast HDR+ processing and absence of green/purple tint on front camera. Every feature is on GCam 5 except for Night Sight. I have a few recommendations though:
1) fu24's 5.2.025 APK - pretty much the latest and most customizable one can ever find on this version.
2) Arnova's 5.1.018 APK- #1 is the king, but you might try this one as well.
GCAM 6
This is where it gets tricky. A lot of GCam 6 APKs have bugs as GCam 6 is new in itself. You might observe issues such as black screens, green/purple tint on front camera, and crashes when trying GCam 6 APKs. To date I have not found an APK that works with slow motion.
To save you the headache, I have a few APKs to recommend:
Arnova's V 2.0 - the best APK I've seen. Just set the front camera model to Nexus 6P, and green camera tint will be gone.
DO NOT TRY
There are APKs which are guaranteed not to work. These APKs just crash every start-up. Don't try these when experimenting with APKs. These are:
1) Any 6.x Arnova8G2 APK, except for those with "Pixel2Mod" or "Pixel3Mod" in the title (these don't have any customization options other than the one bundled with the Pixel, also have green tint)
2) Any APK made for Poco/OnePlus/Exynos/Kirin phones.
I have confirmed every piece of information to be accurate at the time of writing. Circumstances may change, so I'm updating this thread every month to be more accurate.

Thanks for this but rear cam is laggy any setting you recommend?
Thanks for the links. Currently using the recommended Gcam 5 with the last PixelExperience ROM and I couldn't be happier with my phone. Truly spectacular pictures.

Google camera 7 [Pixel 4 build]

Try this.works well .
New ui. No lag what so ever in viewfinder.
Only cons: selfies are just way more softer (who clicks them anyway??), Video recoding doesn't work.(stock cam is better for vdo as 1080 60fps with better faster focusing...

Hello guys, I hope you're ok.
Here's a Google Camera that works on Motorola One Action.
With this camera version, you can use the Wide Camera, for photos and video (I'm serious).
It has some bugs with the 5mpx camera, but I guess it isn't important.
You'll see in the viewfinder aux2, aux1 and main, well, aux2 is action camera.
*Always TAP TO FOCUS, or the photos will not be taken.*
Steps:
1) Download and install the camera app
https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/f/changelog1156/
2) Download the Magisk Module "AUX cameras enabler" and flash it and reboot (isn't it obvious?) (NECESSARY FOR TO HAVE ACCESS TO THE ACTION CAMERA)
https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/p/aux-cameras-enabler-module/
3) Load the xml config that I upload. There are two, one for normal shot and the other for white and black (aren't the best settings but both works, that's what matters now)
Mirror (all files in one place)
https://drive.google.com/drive/mobile/folders/1-2XGpNR4CIFzufGHEMJnhttJKdCsdaE0
Well, that's all, too much words for now, test it and if you have better settings or other tips/tricks, share it.
Have a good day and #staysafe
Doesn't Work without flashing?

Flashing what? The Magisk module? Yes, it works, but you'll not be able to use the action camera, but that's the purpose of the post, to provide an alternative to use the Action Camera.
Hello, after installing this module, I met error 01400001 in the stock camera. "One of the rear cameras is not working. Some modes are not available. Tap for help. Error code: 01400001". Basically, the application itself works on the front camera and the main one, but without a wide-angle camera. Magisk version 22.0.
Thanks in advance.
Hey everyone,
Just curious to know if it's possible to change the default camera an app is using? For example, on my Xiaomi Mi 9T, it uses the zoom lense in Google Meet, which sucks as I do present stuff via Camera and actually would prefer to use the ultra-wide lense. Sadly, Google Meet does not allow to switch the camera used (besides from front-camera and first back camera)
Is there any app / Magisk module / setting to change the order of the different cameras so that apps first use the ultra-wide lense?
Thanks
Try to add USB camera. Or connect web camera to computer or mobile. Now you will see two option. You can change default camera.
For that you need to root mobile.
Try Gcam mode software which are used on Google pixel.

Did you ever figure this out? Trying to find a solution now.
Hi, the Pixel 7 Pro camera app skimps on functionality. Do you know
a Gcam modification (easy to install even for non-nerds)
another camera app
offering more?
Other camera apps perhaps can only address the P7P's main camera, but that would be at least something. A one-off payment for the app would be ok; not ok would be subscriptions and advertising.
The functions mentioned below aren't needed always, and some never need them or find them damaging. But other mobiles like Huawei or Samsung have a "Pro" mode – I like that, and an SLR like camera app would be great. (I want to keep the P7P and not get another phone.)
What I Miss in the P7P Camera App:
manual ISO and shutter speed
manual focussing including enlarged preview
focus peaking (colour overlay in focussed area)
histogram when snapping
permanent light instead of flash (torchlight mode) (ideally permanent light with changeable brightness and colour)
HDR
flash should work when sliders for brightness/contrast have been used (it doesn't on the P7P)
flexible timer (like 5 snaps with 3 seconds interval, adjustable)
The free app Open Camera offerst most of those functions above incl. manual focus, permanent light, focus peaking. But that app is very confusing. Free app Cymera at least offers permanent light.
And they say that Gcam has an especially good image quality. I didn't test that yet. Anyway an enhanced Gcam would be interesting. I know I could snap RAW files, but I prefer JPGs out of the box, and good ones at that.
So, if you can recommend (or warn against) alternative camera apps for the P7P? Thanks!
Hope we can come up with some useful suggestions. I'm interested in this as well.
Open Camera does also offer manual shutter speed and iso control if you use the camera 2 api.

Yes, as i wrote above, it offers almost all of my requirements. I just find it very confusing and i think it doesn't use the other cameras - it offers a zoom slider, but i think it's only digital zooming from the main cam.
Dunno if this is what you're looking for but I came across this BSG Mod recently.

I am not sure if even understand all of that. It seems i need to be in Telegram (groups) to read the proper information.
Hello, these two apps use all 3 rear cameras and offer more than the installed Gcam Standard:
Filmic Firstlight
ProShot
Both are paid apps, but there are free versions.
Free Filmic Firstlight takes only 8 MP pics, and i wonder about other differences (info is scarce or confusing). 3 cameras are used in free version. Supersmooth switching between manual/auto exposure and between manual/auto focussing, with zebras and peaking automatically displayed - better than any other app i've seen.
ProShot before paying gives you an "Evaluator" from which you can start a demo version. It seems quite clear that it uses all 3 cameras. Offers "torchlight mode" and manual shutter speed, IIRC.
Open Camera, as said before, uses only the main cam and is confusing. There is a slight variation of that app called Hedecam, perhaps a tad less confusing, but not a charm either. Great offers for various sizes and styles of histograms.

Open Camera can use all of the three cams, I've tested it. You've just configured it wrong
Juar use bsg latest, changed the main setting to raven and it will work fine.

I tried these and Filmic First light limits me to a maximum exposure time of 1 second, did you face any issue like that?
