We switched from Sprint to AIO. I got the Nexus 5 and the wife got a Moto G. My wife is getting around 2 mbps down at best and it says 3g. I'm concerned it's just normal HSPA and not HSPA+. Is there a way to tell which it's on? For the record, when I turn LTE off on my nexus, I hit the data cap of 3.5-4 mbps on HSPA+.

Depending on which model you purchased, your Moto G may or may not support HSPA or HSPA+. If you purchase the unlocked USA GSM model, it does have HSPA+. If you bought the global model, it's strictly 3G only.

.... thats a bunch of misinformation. All the models have HSPA+. The US models only show 3G on screen even when connected to HSPA+ (if you dont believe me there are several ways to check). With AIO either of the US models or the international models will work just fine (as it runs on ATT's network) the only time you really need to worry about network compatibility is if you are buying the phone to run on T-Mobile as you will need the US model instead of the Global model.

Ah sorry, I guess I was misinformed. I must have been confused about the model that T-Mobile requires.

no worries. There seems to be a ton of confusion out there about this phone and which model to use. Motorola should add a chart or something on their site to clear it all up.
Just checked mine there now hspa+ and downloads of between 3.5 and 5 Mbps in my house ,other days I can get up to 9 Mbps,UK stock ROM rooted on giffgaff network,Posted screenshots of speeds that I get in my bathroom which are usually poor compared to rest of house
I'd like to buy Meizu M1 Note having such frequency support:
LTE-FDD:B1/B3,TD-LTE:B38/B41,WCDMA: 900/1900/2100MHz,GSM:900/1800MHz/1900MHZ
I feel there is no LTE compatibility with US carriers, but at least may I get FULL 3G coverage of some carrier?
I counted on AT&T only, but this phone seems to lack 850 MHz support, that could mean that 3G coverage would be limited...?
Or maybe I'm wrong or missed other options??

It doesnt have to do with the specs of the phone about your 3G coverage. It depends upon your carrier which area it covers! If your phone has gsm and UMTS network support than yes it would have 3G no matter what the specs are!

Your coverage should be OK with either T-Mobile or AT&T. It does depend on the area though. AT&T typically has better area coverage, but T-Mobile has better 3G speeds where present.

I hope. I had Alcatel before, its UMTS frequencies include only 900 and 2100 MHz, so I suffered on GPRS speed with T-Mobile... So I count on 1900 MHz now.

A true "world phone" would suit you better. The problem with using a Chinese phone is that bands are often limited. Something like a Nexus 4 or 5, or Moto G with quad-band GSM and quad/penta-band UMTS would give you more coverage and versatility around the world.

I know that Sony or Samsung would serve me better in this case, because they support a bunch of frequencies for all possible cases and countries. But they are overpriced a lot. Besides, Sony now is not an audio smartphone at all.
It's just that my preference is not only frequency support, but a lot of other factors. I used to have Samsung a while ago, but since then I have switched to using other brands. And Meizu and BBK VIVO are my favorites for great sound (important for me) and decent price. Now when Meizu produced dual SIM phone as answer to my prayers, I've decided to buy it. And if 1900 is enough to get some 3G - it's fine with me
Hi,
I brought a Moto G from India, before coming the US for doing my masters.
The thing is here it does not pick up 3G or 4G bands. It just works on EDGE.
I wanted to ask if i can use the QPST method to unlock the bands? because I can see no information on it in the forums(for this phone). I am especially confused since it says nothing about dual sim phones and this is the dual sim variant of moto G
It would be great if someone would guide me how i could unlock the bands on my phone.
Regards,
Naved.
I'm almost a 100% sure this wont work but try installing a USA stock rom and a USA stock kernel. But I think the problem is with Sim card though.
Thanks for the help man. I am currently on T-Mobile planning to switch to at and t soon. You think that it'll at least pick up 3g after that?

Dear Akonsand, finally do you know if I can use the QPST method to unlock the bands of the Moto G3 (XT1541)?
I have the same problem that you...
I'm bumping this just in case there are some news on the subject.
I'm stuck on EDGE with an XT1541 in Argentina and i'm not really sure of what to do... Is there some sub-forum with phone exchanges around the world?
Maybe someone's interested on a trade!
There were some successful attempts at unlocking the bands on the Moto E 2015, but for now there's no hope for the G...
How do you guys see it? Do we have any chance? Should we wait?
Thanks everybody!
Very interested as I have a xt1550 but am on o2 UK and would like to enable lte for this carrier

I am a little confused here... Your Indian model phone should get 3G in the US, but not LTE (I hate it when people say "4G", technically speaking even LTE isn't 4G but that is for another thread), in fact, assuming you have the correct SIM and APN settings, your model should get HSPA+ speeds. LTE is out though... let me explain
3G (HSPA/HSPA+) in the US is 850Mhz and 1900Mhz, in India it is 800Mhz and 1800Mhz, the Moto G supports all 4 of these bands, so it should work in the US just fine.
In the US, several bands are used for LTE such as 2, 4, 5, 12, 13, 17, 25, 26, and 41 (granted some bands are very limited or carrier specific), but in India LTE use is exclusively Band 40 by both Aircel and Airtel, and the LTE setup in the Moto G is specific for those countries and does not inter-operate.
So, long story short, with a GSM US carrier SIM and correct APN setup, you should get 3G HSPA+ data connections with no issues on your Indian Moto G, which is probably good enough for most uses and can exceed 8mbps down speeds in many areas.

Hey thanks for the reply man.
I think even HSPA or HSPA+ might not work for me on this phone. I am using a T Mobile family plan here, and comparing th bands given on the website:
"4G (HSPA+)
With 4G, theoretical maximum download speeds range from 21 Mbps up to 42 Mbps. You can take advantage of incredibly fast download speeds, and even use voice and data services at the same time.
Frequencies: Band 2 (1900 MHz), Band 4 (1700/2100 MHz)
3G (HSPA)
With 3G, theoretical maximum download of 14 Mbps. With 3G, you can use voice and data services simultaneously.
Frequencies: Band 4 (1700/2100 MHz)"
and the bands my phone supports(from the motorola website)
"Moto G (XT1550)
LTE (1, 3, 7, 8, 28,40) UMTS/HSPA+ (900, 2100, 850 MHz)
GSM/GPRS/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz)"
It seems that the uplink is unsupported by my phone and so the phone is unable to use the HSPA/HSPA+ bands. I think the only way to use it is to unlock the 1700 MHz band on my phone.
(BTW Tmobile quotes HSPA+ as 4G and thats hilarious lol)

Most us carriers say HSPA+ is 4G...
Tmobile is great in many regards, except if you have an international phone like the Moto G and they do not have the correct bands implemented in your area, which it appears they do not... Honestly, consider moving to AT&T Wireless or an AT&T based MVNO like Cricket, Straight Talk AT&T, or Go Phone, it might cost a little more but you could get HSPA+ with no issues. 850Mhz is AT&T's primary HSPA/HSPA+ frequency, and 1900Mhz is added to congested areas, but this varies by area... before going all in I suggest trying a SIM from a buddy or go the AT&T (corporate) store and ask to test a SIM just to be sure. But regardless you should get UMTS/GSM speeds on AT&T, which is way better than Edge, averaging anywhere from 500kbps-2mbps.
If TMo is essential or you can't change for whatever reason or live without HSPA+/LTE, consider getting a Blu phone or Moto E locally, they are relatively inexpensive (under $150) and are not amazing but will probably do the job.

If you started using att with your xt1550 ..how is it? Do you get 3g or lte?
I didn't start using it. Currently stuck with a group plan.. But I tried using a friends sim card.. 3g does work well with at n t.

I am currently using the oneplus one, but like to try the galaxy note 5. I saw this one on ebay and wonder if this will work with tmobile 4G LTE Band.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-Samsung...locked-GOLD-/361372540381?hash=item54237b5ddd
It saids LTE B1/2/3/4/5/7/8/12/17/18/19/25/26/28/38/39/40/41 from his listing.
But does tmobile use 1700/2100MHz is it band 4?
Just little afraid getting it from overseas in case no LTE with tmobile
Based on the supported bands it will work with most Tmobile bands except HSPA (3G) on the 1700 band. You will also not have WiFi calling or VoLTE on band 12 since it's not a certified device. You would be better off buying the tmobile note 5 N920T unless those things I mentioned don't matter to you.
Supported Bands:
2G/Voice Bands: 850/900/1800/1900
3G/HSPA Bands: 850/900/1900/2100
LTE Bands: 1/2/3/4/5/7/12/17/25/26/28/38/39/40/41

Found a local seller here for a brand new tmobile phone. $500 I texted him earlier regarding the phone.
Good thing I ask is the phone already paid off. I am sure some buyer don't remember to ask then end up having problem.

If the phone is not paid off I would not buy it. I would use an upgrade, Jump or Jump on Demand. Jump on Demand would probably be best if you like to switch phones often.
Hello fellow xda users,
I am currently trying to buy myself a 4G LTE modem, and I'm looking into buying one from China, since the devices I need here cost 200 euros and up, whereas from Chinese retailers they go as low as 67 euros.
The only problem I'm having is choosing a device which supports the correct LTE Bands of my country.
Here in Lithuania I am using services of the carrier name BITE. According to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_LTE_networks_in_Europe (Country: Lithuania) BITE provides users with LTE bands 3, 7 and 20. (1800, 2600, and 800 Mhz respectively). And they sell their expensive SIM Modem devices (such as Huawei E5186s-22a) which support bands LTE FDD DD800/900/1800/2100/2600MHz, TDD 2600MHz (bands 3, 7 and 20 are included).
Whereas the products offered in China have support of only 2 of the 3 bands listed.
Not sure if I'm allowed to share product links here, but here we go:
1. http://www.aliexpress.com/item/5200...-Hotspot-Portable-Power-Bank/32315152662.html
2. http://www.aliexpress.com/item/3G-M...ower-bank-3g-wifi-router-with/1881314121.html
As you can see, both these devices support Band 3 (1800Mhz) and Band 7 (2600Mhz), however the support for Band 20 (800Mhz) is not listed.
So I'm not sure where to go from this point.
I am using my Xperia Z1 (C6903) phone from the place where I want to use the 4G SIM Modem, and my phone is showing me that it is using 4G network (3/5 bars) on BITE network.
However I'm not sure, which bands are being used in that area? It's AROUND the capital city of Lithuania. The network map of the carrier BITE shows that the city is fully covered in 4G+ network, whereas the outskirts of the city are 4G only -- and my phone proves this (4G works both in and outside the city, can't test the LTE).
In the end what I fully want to know:
Will I have 4G internet access ordering one of these devices that support bands 3 and 7, but not 20?
Will I be able to connect to the Internet at all?
Is band 20 (800 Mhz) that critical for 4G to work with this device? Or should I just spare the extra hundred more euros and buy the carrier certified device?
