[Completed] Evo Design NEEDS voice recognition - XDA Assist

I have an HTC Evo Design currently running a custom rom based on Android 4.0.3. I like the rom very much the issue is that for some reason it is completely lacking in voice recognition. This baffles me due to the fact that the Evo 3D I had previous to this phone (model from about 1 year before the Design came out) did have voice recognition. So... i really need to implement whatever solution is most sensible & practical to give this Evo Design voice recognition capability... IF that is possible. I'm asking what is the issue in terms of either hardware or OS limitations and/or compatibility that are effectively keeping me from having speech recognizer with my current phone configuration?
Btw in the interest of full disclosure I've already asked what is essentially this question here: h**p://forum.xda-developers.com/general/xda-assist/evo-design-looking-fast-rom-speech-t3211198 On the one hand I understand that being the asker of the question puts me in a sort of beggars can't be choosers category & so I do have some humility about this. On the other hand I can't help but think someone out there has more/better info in regards to what is the crux of voice issue and what can be done to solve it.
Thanks!

Q&A, HTC, and You - Post Your Questions for HTC Right Here

Hi to all,
Ever since the release of the Sensation line of devices, there have been a lot of paradigm shifts at HTC, one of which is their willingness to open up to the people who made them what they are today.... us.
With that in mind, if you had questions regarding everything that has been going on at HTC lately (online unlockers, HTCDev.com, OpenSense SDK, etc), what would you ask?
Think of questions and doubts like:
- why is the EVO 3D still S-On even after completing the unlock process?
- why are devices still locked out of the box and require the user to unlock them?
- what's the deal with unlocking and warranties?
- why is HTC slower than Revolutionary?
- what cool stuff can devs do with the new OpenSense SDK and APIs?
Quick note: development related questions are highly encouraged as well!
Please post all your questions in here. I will be making an article in the Portal with the best questions (and hopefully with answers straight from HTC!)
So, fire away.... I will only keep this thread open for about a week or so as I am also posting this in the Sensation forums. Once I gather enough material, I will send off the questions to HTC and will write an article about it shortly.
Happy asking!
My questions would be concerning their kernel releases. 1) Why is the 3D gaming not working correctly? 2) Why after so many releases, there are still HUGE bugs? And question three which in my opinion is most important.... 3) WHY DID THEY WRITE CODE FOR THE 2ND PROCESSOR TO BE OFF 99.99% OF THE TIME!?!?

Awesome questions! Thank you... I will be sure to pass them along.
Why did they decide to put the WiFi antenna where it is?
Why did they give us a dual-core processor phone if that aspect is not really utilized or if when it is it isn't properly utilized?
Also if you don't mind, could you ask them if they are planning on releasing a dock with HDMI out or something of that sort?
I would like to know more about the monitoring/report to base software they have installed. I do hope its not as bad as Apple with its location saving a few months back.
Also why the LCD density doesn't change depending on what size screen we have.
Edit : Big thumbs up on what CPU they picked also with async. Clearly the clever one to pick for a unit on a battery that's on standby most of the day. Maybe the best is for HTC to work with Dev's to give each a choice to run the cores how they like.
OK, two questions:
1. Will we see ICS on Sensation?
2. Why HTC is not officialy present here, taking and answering questions as well as helping developers?
Are they aware of the power button bug and are they going to fix it?
1. Why did both mine and my wife's stock batteries fail after under 2 months of use?
2. Why doesn't the stock HTC recovery console include any kind of nandroid-esque backup capabilities?
Can the Sense launcher PLEASE be updated to incorporate a 4x4 or even 5x5 icon grid?!
In addition, why can we not:
edit the number of home screens
resize widgets
remove widget or icon labels
Why can't we rename our bluetooth devices anymore? If you have 2 identical ones the old feature where you could name them differently is much missed by me.
Why is battery life so bad when there is a push email account via Microsoft exchange? Why is the battery so underpowered at 1520mah for a dual core phone??
Thank you all for your questions. I believe I have what I need for the time being. I will submit the questions to HTC and will post an article in the Portal as soon as they are answered. Thank you all again for your time
I will reopen this thread soon.

[Q] Termonology Aspects and Capabilities

Hello there i am new to these forums, and android to that matter as well, not to mention linux. True Noob- so be it. I hope i have posted this in a relevant section. I was just wondering with all of the vast amounts of information posted on these sites if there is any information that is important to know before getting really in depth. Maybe like a terminology index of sorts that will help u understand the complexity of code and programing i have no education in such matters. yet i have flashed cwm recovery even though i techinically dont understand what flashing truly is. but with that I just wanted to say that the people who take time to write tutorials are very helpful. I am running g2x gingerbread 2.3.3 got from tmobile brand new yesterday. I am intristed in seeing if there is a rom to bypass data cap on there 4g network-fix camera and camcorder issues with potential delivered to what hardware is actually designed to do. also can internal storage be deverted for extra ram?? and overclocking i am intristed in basically just want to thank everyone who is patient and helpful.
I am an intelligent logical person i belive if i could have a 10 min conversation with someone with the know how i could learn alot. or yet maybe people can use this thread to talk about elementaries and the abc's of things also i would be much apprecitve for emails and messages with any advice thank u so much
I would just browse XDA and if you find a term you don't know you could PM me or just post it in the Q&A section.

[Q] Is it possible to install android on a phone that doesn't have it?

I know this question should be obvious but I am not a developer so I don't know for sure. I am wanting to get a lg 800g for my dad and put android on it. The os it has on it looks like android but it isn't. I was wondering if it would be possible to put android on it so the phone could be more compatible possibly.
The most likely answer is 'no'. The device doesn't appear to be nearly powerful enough to support Android. Even if it were, you'd need massive community support to port Android over, and it doesn't appear that that exists for this device.
To answer your subject-line question more generally, in the vast majority of cases, this is not possible. The rare exceptions usually involve devices that use derivatives of Android, like the Nook Color.
We have great android ports on our hp touchpad including cm7 and miui . I'd say this device definitely would not be easy, but hey, its android so you never know what magic will happen. I hope you are able to find a community of people willing to help you with that phone. Not sure what kind of experience you have, but why not see where you can get on a port for yourself and then ask some recognized developers what direction you need to head. If you paid, im sure a few devs would do it for you
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks

[Completed] evo design looking for fast rom w/ speech recognition

phone is rooted i've been running rom found at h**p://androidforums.com/threads/rom-forgottenkingdom.712740/ The rom is based off android 4.0.3. So, this being the case, is there a simple way to add speech recognition to the rom? If not can someone please point me to a good rom that does have speech recognition? I really do not want to go to a rooted version the stock rom. I will not be the owner of a phone without admin rights/privileges. For me the lack of speech recognition is a deal breaker. I'm hoping for the latest best kernal the phone can accommodate & fast/quick response & robust (glitch proof crash proof)
THANKS!!!
P.S. I'm hoping it's ok that I posted in this area of the forums I didn't find a Evo Design area, the phone is old & was never that popular anyway from what i can tell
P.S.S. (added these lines 4th October 2015) I'm looking for further assistance as my initial questions unanswered. Sorry if i'm being too much of a bother maybe this phone is long since forgotten. If anyone could more offer help on this it would sure be appreciated.
Thank You!
Hi
Thank you for using XDA Assist.
Unfortunately I didn't find anything on XDA for your device. What about using a 3rd party app for speech recognition like Dragon Mobile Assistant?
continued
as noted in the PS i'm aware there isn't a forum devoted to this particular phone. I was hoping that someone here had enough knowledge to at least point me in the right direction as concerns phone/rom issue. The problem i foresee with the work around you've suggested is that for any other apps w/ voice recognition element there is likely to be a need to tie into the android native voice recognizer. thank you for your effort primo i really do appreciate it and you have made me aware of the dragon mobile assistant which i did not even know about. your reply just didn't really answer my question. maybe i'm on the wrong forum site and should be looking for a forum with an area specifically dedicated to my device. Not really sure what to do next so any further assistance would be appreciated.
ThankYou
the workaround didn't work either
Installed Dragon Mobile Assistant. Attempt to take notes via voice fails. Pretty much same way google keep will install but cannot take notes via voice. Failing in same manner likely for same reason lack of speechrecognizer. Further assistance needed.
Thank You
I have no ther idea, sorry. I suggest you to ask in the General Q&A thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2257421
Good luck

Hello, and welcome to XDA!
You would have the best of luck asking for help in this thread:
> Android Development and Hacking > Android General > 5300mAh 5.5" Bluboo X550 - Review, ROMs, Info, FAQs
Please note, you will have to register for an XDA account to post there. Also, when posting, please be specific as to what the problem is, any modifications that may have got you to where you are (rooting, et cetera), as well as things tried to alleviate the situation.
Hope this helps, and good luck!

Maybe. It could be a hardware issue, but me not knowing what the problem is (it was even mentioned that you "don't know why" the phone isn't working), software is more likely.
Which is why it is beneficial to post your problem in the thread mentioned above. I don't know anything about your device, except what I skimmed through on GSMArena. The people in that thread own that device, and have the best-hand user experience as a result. I don't have electrical schematics of every Android known to man filed away (I'm lucky if I have even one). Other than approaching the company, your fellow users are the best chance at getting that information, if it is indeed a hardware issue (and replacement parts are available).
Please be detailed there. Simply saying the phone "doesn't work" isn't constructive, and helps no one, as it suggests a plethora of possibilities.
Not to be cruel, I wasn't expecting a three word reply which effectively condenses the original post. Asking-for/needing/demanding effortless information/solutions, while someone else does the heavy lifting, is not what XDA Assist is all about. It's about pointing people in the right (I like to say best) direction with the information given. I feel I have done that. With an account now, time to get your feet wet.
Hope this helps.
