There is a thread for unlocked bootloader: http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-m2/general/unlocked-bl-root-sony-xperia-m2-android-t3214498
And another thread for locked bootloader: http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-m2/general/officila-5-1-1-18-6-0-175-root-t3214651

Root on LB you need to flash a pre-rooted zip via recovery on rooted kk use v1.1 PRFCreator, which ever firmware you want to use, beta version of supersu and I'm using nuts t2u dual recovery+the NDR util app from the playstore both work like a charm this is what I did flash the pre-rooted zip in recovery on rooted kk then whilst still in recovery flash the supersu zip again and then boot up then I ran the ric killer script then the installer version of nuts t2u dual recovery(I also included the flashable version in the prf) it should work doing everything once but I just wanted to make sure

Have you unlocked your Bootloader?
When my XL was rooted, i didn't unlock boot loader, so try another way to root your XL
Just flash your firmware using PC Companion

You are stuck in a bootloop. You need to flash your stock ftf file using flash tool.
And you should have used rootkit to root your phone, and it doesn't unlocks bootloader so there is no chance of bootloop. And you could've unlocked bootloader after it.
it was just an advice... the thing u need to do now is to flash stock ftf
thanks for your replies, i just use flashtool to may XL and now its back to normal
thanks again

Downgrading from 5.1.1 to 4.4.4

So can someone explain how to downgrade my Xperia M2 (d2303)
I want to root it so i need android KitKat
You'll either have to download the ftf via flashtool or Xperiafirm or most likely search on here there'll be one lurking about. Then just flash the ftf via flashtool wipe cache n data and don't forget to remove the ta part and sim lock part if present.

Whatever you do use Flashtool 9.18.6. Thanks me later

When you load ftf in Flashtool you'll get a list of files that are going to be flashed. On the right side you can exclude. So if you want to exclude ta. check it in the right side.
Good Luck

Bricked Sony Xperia M2 2303

Hello there,
I tried to downgrade my M2 from Lollipop to Kitkat using flashtool but I unpluged my phone during the process and I cancelled the flashing and now my phone is bricked. It's not turning on, I can't put it into flashmode, because the flashtool is not detecting the phone now and I can't flash the firmware again.Any solutions how to fix this problem, please?

Hello,
I did Hard- Reset to the phone pressing volume up and power button and I got the phone back to normal, but I tried to flash Kitkat again, because I have problems with my gps after upgrade to this stupid Lollipop and my phone is in bootloop now and I can't even flash new firmware, I can't even hard reset it again, the phone just vibrate 3 times but nothing happen after that. While is on charger is just showing Sony logo and that's it. You can see in the attachment what flashtool is showing when I try to flash the firmware.
So you can get your phone in flash mode but not flash a firmware on it... How about recovery? Or isn't it booting that far?

Stupid question but you did tick wipe data and cache in flashtool. Important when going from 4.4.4 to 5.1 and vice versa

Yes I ticked wipe all user data...
Be sure you download a STOCK (Official) Firmware.
Also downgrade your flashtool to an older version, the fsc script (Flashtool SCript) has something to do with newer devices (More hassle to make it work)

can't update my phone, why?

hello,
my phone is M2 Dual D2302 4.4.4 rooted with kingroot. but i am unable to update to 5.1.1 i tried both OTA and PC.
on OTA after downloading the update and install it the phone restart and say can't install.
and On PC companion the update start then stop because internet stopped for a short time, and then PC companion says: Phone / Tablet software update information currently not accessible.

If your bootloader is unlocked, you can't update via OTA.
You'll need tui flash ftf via flashtool once it's available on Sony servers updates don't work once rooted or your bootloader is unlocked

thanks, i used flashtool to flash FTF.

Z3 stuck in bootloop.

So I was on a rooted 5.1.1 with XZDualRecovery and I decided I wanted to use the Marshmallow Concept firmware and wanted to create a prerooted one using PRFCreator but now after having flashed it, my Xperia doesn't want to boot into it anymore. It just starts with the this red led and then reboots after a couple of secs. I can boot it into freeboot and make Sony Flasher recognize it that way but I have no idea how to proceed from there. Any help please?

You cant create a pre rooted version of the concept. You can only get root on concept with an unlocked boot.
I have no idea what you mean by freeboot.
Just use flashtool to flash a stock ftf for your device and start again, but don't flash the prerooted concept rom you created again

Thanks I just found that out as well. So unlocked bootloader is the only way to root? No way to do it via XZDualRecovery then?
Thanks again!

Yes, on the concept ROM you have to unlock the bootloader to root.
As for using dual receovery, not on the concept rom. And to have XZDualRecovery you have to be rooted first (Unless you are on a really old firmware that the installer can gain root access on via an old exploit)
Does the Pre-rooted concept include XZ-DualRecovery? Case it included and cause boot loop, try with Pre-rooted concept (system rooted only) without XZ-DualRecovery. After flash Pre-rooted concept, DO NOT reboot but TURN IT OFF. Then flash other stuffs of the concept with flashtool except system. It may help to get concept rooted but not XZ-DualRecovery.
I wish to try this but I have only T-Mobile carrier.
