LG V10 vs iPhone 6s Plus camera showdown - LG V10 General

So I took to normal non tech people and let them shoot pics (in auto) with the LG V10 and the iPhone 6s Plus.
https://youtu.be/73bYwnju8gg

The iPhone pictures looked nice but almost as if it was HDR as standard?
The video on the V10 also looked a bit stuttery which surprised me.
Nice video
Thanks for doing it.

There are some videos on YouTube that don't have that stutter at all. I personally believe comparisons using auto-modes are unfair comparisons, as one phones auto-mode is very different that anothers auto-mode. The best comparisons are when the user takes the best possible image/video they can with each phone.

4K video so disappointing

I've been recording a few 4k clips. I think its pretty pointless A) No OIS , you need a tripod only reall for using it B) Frame rate not 30fps all the time stutters a bit.
Other than that its the most detailed amazing video on my 2560 x 1440p monitor (No 4k monitor yet), but with no OIS its really not practical at all. Or usable. And not to mention the 5 minute clip limit...
Anyone here going to honestly be using it over 1080p? (Unless you carry a tripod) Guess i'm too use to the G2's OIS camera which gives much smoother videos.
Honestly, mostly I just use 720p. In my opinion the 4k function is an marketing trick by Samsung. Well it works but the mainstream market needs a few more years until it's the non+ ultra. It's nice to have but I'm quietly sure I won't use it at all.

Agreed. 100% marketing gimmick. Other than playing with it for a few minutes, doubt I will ever use it again. If it was 4K 30fps with image stabilization yes.
Chaialo says
I was actually thinking of filming a commercial with it. I do have a tripod, slider and a clamp to hold it. I will also be shooting the same scenes in 1080P on my HPX300 just in case.

I wish you guys would quit with the whining.. the camera (from what I have seen) is clearly better than its predecessors or just about anything on the market for a smartphone. Samsung has clearly improved this phone in every way, its by far the best phone on the market. No other phone can anywhere close to what this phone offers, the features are endless. So stop crying and be happy that you are fortunate to own the best phone on the market. IMO
I don't think that the 4k ability is outstanding but someone has to take the first step. And that the note 3 can handle the bandwidth needed for 4k is enough to wow me right there.(it is very compressed I'd imagine)
And to people saying its a marketing gimmick, isn't the iphones slow mo feature the same? The note 3 can do 720p 120fps just like the iphone but there not hyping it up. 4k is more exciting then watching every video on YouTube in slow mo. If I want to watch slow mo I want to see it at 1000fps with a true slow mo camera.

Uh, 4K is a feature of the snapdragon 800 chipset. Samsung had nothing to do with it. Blame Qualcomm for it being less than desirable.
I imagine xda devs will get around the 5 minute limit soon enough.

I'm so tired of coming to this forum and seeing people constantly complain about things that are either superficial or not mind blowing (etc. speakers not putting out surround sound 7.1, 4k not being worlds better than 1080p).
Keep these negative post in:

Sounds great, they should also make it that Samsung fanboys can only start posts too? Fanboys here don't let people express their opinions which is what forums are all about discussions and sometimes there are topics you might not like.

Very interesting indeed. Still haven't bothered capturing at 4k as I don't have a display to do it justice. Might start recording and archive so come the time for a new TV I have some bright sharp memories to view.
I spend a full 20 minutes staring and laughing hysterically at the thread title. Thought it was about photo's, as opposed to video.
Wasn't expecting that from the Note 3, actually. Not bad at all, for such a tiny sensor.
Honestly though, comparing 4K against 1080p? Even if you downsize, that's an unfair comparison as 4K records more data than 1080p at the raw source. It's like shooting in Jpeg directly, or converting a RAWfile to Jpeg. (Which only makes sense if you know photography.)
I am, however, in doubt. An old classmate of mine shoots entire films with his 5D MKIII, and the quality is significantly better than what we're seeing in the video.

I'm sorry but you're wrong, the comparison is as valid as any comparison between 2 devices. It would be like saying you can't compare benchmarks between Note 3 and GS5, because GS 5 has CPU running at higher frequency.
The fact is Note 3 can record 4k video out of the box and can record higher resolution, sharper video, than any DSLR currently on the market, period. Of course those were done in full sun/ good light, in low light Canon would win hands down. You could also see blown highlights in Note 3 video, but never the less our phone has excellent video recording capabilities I bet a lot of people are not even aware off and you have to remember Canon 5D mark III has probably one of the best video recording capabilities among DSLR and was used in quiet few commercial video recordings you see on TV. Even thought some people dismiss this as useless gimmick, it was one of the reasons I got Note 3 and I record all video in 4k, mostly of my kids, for the future memories. Right now none of my computers can play 4k video smoothly and I don't even have 4k display yet, but all this will be rectified before end of this year. Funny thing is, it is Samsung pushing the envelope, where the hell is Sony, commercial and consumer video leader?
arhhh the Pixel Myth.... Just like the Megahertz Myth! Bigger numbers doesn't always mean better. The N3 is a complete waste of time in low light despite being able to record @ 4k. I'd like to have seen the guy walking around (camera movement) with both devices as this would have shown which device was better when watching both playbacks.

Apparently you didn't see the video comparison, which clearly shows Note 3 video is much sharper, even on low resolution screen and apparently you never looked at benchmarks, clearly showing that everything else being equal, phone running at higher GHz will run faster most of the time, otherwise you wouldn't call it a myth. As far as low light goes, every camera sucks, it just a matter of how little is not enough. Canon 5d has full size sensor, which is almost as big as half width of the phone and this size sensor could not be fitted in a small phone and forget about optics required, never the less, with huge handicap in sensor size, much, much lower price and basic optics, Note 3 is competitive in good light. In low light it is much worse, but if you ever went to the movie set, just about half of the equipment is lights to improve exposure and they have cameras costing more than most people house, so yeah, good light is required for all cameras if you want good video.

Mate 9 camera quirks

Hi gang,
Took the beast out for some shooting today.
What I love:
The camera software. All the settings, pro-mode, effects and stuff are really nice.
Camera is very fast. Very unlike some reviews claiming this is the slowest camera out there.
What I don't like:
Pic sharpness. Most pics come out with some water paint effect. Backgrounds, distance shots all come out washed. Macro shots are sort of OK but zooming in, washed out to some extend.
So I played around with various settings, differed sizes, all the same free post-processing effects.
I compared with similar shots I look last week with the old LG G4. Well, they are 200% better. Lets hope this is a processing issue that will be fixed with the next update.
What are your experiences?

Don`t forget we are running pre-release software, an update to smooth things up will come soon. Besides that i don`t recognise your issues on my device so far.
I am on B110. Is this a pre-release software?
I have a major complain regarding camera in video. I think is related to the stabilization. Almost all my video in FHD looks like waves. The image is very shaky. This is my second device as the first one was replaced. Anyone else observed this?
I really hope can be solved in an update.

It's not super bad, some shots are OK but comparing apples with apples, the M9 is not on par with other recent top brand products.

Just tested it to see if it happens here too. Indeed when filming the image stutters on the screen (well, it's night here so not ideal conditions) but when playing it it looks nice, no shakes at all. That was at 1080p, 60fps. At 1080p, 30fps it looks smooth on screen and also when playing it.
Anyone noticed that the hdr mode is always on in bright light?
You will get the same picture with or without hdr, and that's something not good at all.
Is there a setting that turn hdr off other than using pro mode?
Just upgraded today to b126 and looks promising just checked it's 6x zoom and it is great

So, i have had mate 9 for 2 weeks now, not impressed, when i compare it to the galaxy s7 edge, it cannot compete, the galaxy s7 edge wins hands down...., also, the galaxy s8 looks to be worth waiting for, march/april release will see a great phone after their note phones needed washing out with water, lol.
Also, i wanted to ask you, i have the MHA-L00 china version and my Hi voice app only works in chinese, as does the music app, can you post and tell me if your international MHA-L29 has hi voice ((assistant app) and music app in english, if it does..., could i ask that you post the apk install files for these apps in english. As far as i am aware, Hi voice app is embedded into the system so may not be possible.
If possible, i wanted instructions to flash the international rom onto the chinese phone?

Well, I couldn't agree more still having an old good lg g3 by the hand for comparisons makes me angry and sad about mate9's picture quality... seriously thinking about selling the-brand-new-two-months-old phone and returning to LG RAW mode looks like the only hope, combined with snapseed it gives somehow sharper and nicer images.... my guess is that default JPG postprocessing seriously sucks hopefully huawei will fix it in some future updates...

I think you're kidding right? There is no way a G3 will come close.
?
Well, the first pic is from the G3, full picture quality, automode, no tweaking
Second pic is from Mate 9 full picture quality, automode, no tweaking.
The V10.... Is resting in peace . Will be getting a MoBo soon from aliexpress and reviving it though.

Sony Xperia XZ Premium Reviews

look at video comparison (XZP-XZs-S8) http://www.gsmarena.com/vidcmp.php3?idType=5&idPhone1=8593&idPhone2=8599&idPhone3=8161
First thoughts, S8 wins. What do you think?
Sony camera is much improved and very competitive with the other flagships from what I've seen around the web. I've got no issues going with the Sony.
If the parameters were the same, I would give you the reason, but this is not the case.
XZP: ISO 800 , 1/32s
S8: ISO 250 1/10s
Honestly the Xperia XZ Premium does a better job considering that the iso is higher

Unfortunately the s8 looks a lot better than the xz premium in these tests.
I dont want the s8, but decent alternatives look limited at the moment!

For me there's no point have detailed photos when it's so noisy though.
Will be interesting to see if the Oneplus 5 has a dual camera setup and the quality they can produce.
Stuff have posted their review... and they're not overly enthusiastic about the camera either (although battery life seems OK)...

Hmm I'm bit a bit disappointed yet again I was really hoping for good things. I don't want the S8 because I hate curved edges. So I'm left with waiting for the Google pixel 2 or sonys next flagship in September/October which will be an improved on this..! Urgh I hate waiting lol. I think Sony really need to focus on their algorithms like the pixel takes excellent shots!

I strongly recommend you have a look at the HTC U11 that was launched today - it seems to be everything that I wanted the XZ Premium to be! The camera beats the S8 and Pixel (according to dxomark) and it supports hi res audio too. Benchmark wise it beats the XZP (if benchmarks are your thing). It doesn't have 960fps slow mo or a 4k screen, but realistically I think those are more gimmicks than something that would be used often (although if the XZP supported Daydream then it would make it more useful), but it does have it's own gimmick of squeezable sides which can be used to take photos, launch apps, etc. The only downside is the battery is slightly smaller at 3000mAh, but HTC seems to optimise previous phones pretty well from what I have briefly read.
There's a hands on review here (it's still being written, so keep checking back if it hasn't been completed yet...

Yeah, I saw this earlier I was very impressed with the DxO mark of 90! I love the photos taken by the Pixel so I'm sure the HTC will be in the same class. My only gripe is I heavily rely on a 3.5mm headphone jack and charging at the same time due to my needs at night so this is what is keeping me from the HTC unfortunately it plays a big role in my work. 3000mah battery doesn't phase me as the S8 did better in terms of battery life compared to the Xz premium which has a bigger battery. I think software plays a big part in optimisation for camera/battery.
The search continues...

You'd only really notice the difference side-by-side with a screen without it, plus there really isn't much 4k hdr content out there to make use of it. If only it had been Daydream compatible.
I'd be interested to know how you'll be using the 4k hdr extensively when the phone comes out?

I had the z5 premium and also have 4k hdr tv with a ps4 pro so I know what the 4k hdr fuss is all about. It's hard to notice it but once I go back to a general game which has no hdr support you can really tell. I mean its not night and day difference but you can tell.
I had the z5 premium I loved it. Sharpness and quality was fantastic. Pictures I took when viewing the images in that high res display were brilliant . I had some that looked unbelievable.*But the phone itself was difficult to hold and the battery was average not terrible and not great. Both these things have been fixed on the xz premium with looped edges and the supposedly 8hour screen on time screen.
Support for 4k screen wasn't great back then either. Although this time I believe they have already added 4k hdr support in amazon prime and I believe more to come.
The only people who'll tell you this "4k hdr is gimmick thing" are high end reviewers who blindly go over things and haters.
So anyway back to your q I'll probably be using it to view my amazing camera pictures on that high res screen. Along with 4khdr amazon prime content. YouTube apparently has 4k but no hdr and lets hope Netflix does too. And like I did with the z5premium I will download some movies in 4k too
Along with all this I'll be testing out vr although not Daydream compatible it may still work out with riftcat and pc vr. And of course im a huge fan of ps4 remote play too.
Overall the xz premium device according to many reviews I've seen is pretty much the complete package. So yeah im hyped for this one

Video quality

Your friends are never going to believe what you did. The only way to prove it to them is with that video you took. Rate this thread to express how videos shot on the Samsung Galaxy S9+ come out. A higher rating indicates that videos are smooth (and not choppy) and that auto-focus works very well, and that the camera adjusts quickly to different lighting conditions while recording.

Dude, I love your videos and I would never believe I found you around here.
I discovered you because some of your Pixel 2 videos and followed your YouTube channel since then.
I returned the Pixel 2 XL because is unusable in low light conditions and got the S9+ and I couldn't be happier, and saw you did the same, and moreover, really brave to post a video explaining why you did this.
Keep the good job mate!

The only thing to complain is about the super slow motion limitation... It could be at least 5s

Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!

The fact that you are happy with that shaky jittery pixelated processing video explain that Android users have lower quality standards. My iPhone 6 plus would make better video than that. Again I am very disappointed about camera on s9+... Hype is real
