Battery drain issues. Can't seem to remedy the issue - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note5

I've tried every kernel from arter to noble. Turned off voLTE. You name it. I still get android system, cell standby and Android OS are killing my battery. Anybody have any possible solutions?? I'll mention I haven't went more than 24 hours without flashing another kernel to try an fix the draining. So I haven't let any kernel settle in for 2-3 days since this issue began. I used to get great battery life at one point. And I'm doing nothing different from before. I've always used the same setup and continue to do the same.

Have you tried looking in the settings under wifi. Whenever I get a based amount of drain the always allow scanning gets switched on. Turn it off and boom better battery life.

Weird Battery Issues

So I'm currently on my second Captivate after my first one seemed to have terrible battery life (couldn't even last me a full work day). The new one i have doesnt seem to be all that much better. The two phones just seem to drain so much battery in idle and i just could not put my finger on what the problem may be. At first, I thought it may be an app I had, so i restored my phone to factory settings, but still it seemed to drain a lot in idle. So for the last three nights, I tried sleeping with my phone unplugged to see how much it would drain. I slept just about 6 hours each night.
1st night i had it in airplane mode - 12%.
2nd night with 3g on and wifi off - 12%.
3rd night with just 2g on - 0%.
so my question is: why would my phone drain the same amount in airplane mode as with 3g on but with 2g on the battery drain is nothing?? Is everyone else getting similar battery drains trough the night?
I only have a week before my 30 day return period is over and I would hate to have to return this phone. If anyone can help me out this week and leave their phone unplugged through the night using the configurations i had and share their results, it would be greatly appreciated.
Grab system panel from the market. The paid version lets you monitor the phone. Well worth it with these issues.
What firmware are you running? When I had jf6 I had these battery issues. Ever since I flashed jh3 my battery lasts forever. The other day I got about 30 hours before I needed a recharge
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
My battery didn't last long with the jf6 firmware, but jh2 improved it greatly!! If you don't have jh2 yet, flash your phone to it and then do your tests again.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
I am still using jf6 firmware, as I was skeptical of the gps logging issues some were having, but I was able to fix (significantly improve) my battery life issues with an app called Juice defender, look it up in the market if you don't want to flash a non-official firmware...
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
I'm still using the stock firmware. what exactly are JH2 and JH3? i know they are updated firmwares but are they from samsung or custom? how do i go about flashing those roms? What issues do those firmware address?
Sorry for the noob questions, but this is my first android phone and i want to know everything i can before diving into rooting and everything.
I really just wanted to know if the issues with my battery are typical of other captivates as the two that i have had seem to have similar battery life (which wasnt that great). So everyone just thinks this is a firmware issue and will be solved by flashing JH2 or JH3?

Battery prob is now worse!

I'm rooted first of all.
Well, wifi, all GPS, and bluetooth off.
my battery was okay, it lasted for a day mostly. and I think about 2 days ago, the battery suddenly getting worse. Everything remains same. I haven't changed any option, but the bettry is suddenly worse.
I don't use my phone that much. like I got a phone call yesterday and today? no texting, no internet, no app uses.
I charged my battery full(til 11am or til noon), then it dies before 5pm.
(Today I charged my phone til 9:40am, got only one single phone call lasted 1-2mins, and my battery is already 47%.)
It's just terrible! Anyone has same prob????
I'm in California BTW.

I'm rooted and I think it's stock rom.
I just followed the manual perm root process.
It's weird because under same conditions, battery got totally worse than before. It lasted at least for a day, but now, it lasts only 4-5 hrs with same amount of usage under same conditions.
ever figure this out?
Just rooting will not change anything to your battery life. You need to install a rom or a different kernel in order for it to change anything.
Mine too has gotten worse in the last week. I am not rooted. At this point my battery is draining roughly 25% per hour with little or no use. Spare parts shows the most usage on my phone is 0. I have tried getting rid of weather bug, Pandora and sirius. I tried looking for something to explain exactly why 0 takes up 10x more battery than Android system itself and I have came to the conclusion that I am lost. Any direction to the correct forum topic would be appreciated.

Have you tried the "Blockbuster" mod?
1) open the Blockbuster Application, it should ask you to update.
2) once the update has finished open the application back up and
3) navigate to Menu>Settings> "Disable Movie Updates"
Users have reported better battery life.
Thanks for the reply. Yes I have updated and disabled the Blockbuster app. Better yet even I just rebooted my phone and it drained 12% on the battery. How is that possible. I am using my stock battery now and not the extended, so the % would be different with the stock compared to my extended but really I don't think it should use 12% on a reboot.

I guess you and I are on the same page! I charged mine til 9:40 am and went to work yesterday. I got only one phone call that lasted 1-2mins. The battery was already 52%. All GPS was off, bluetooth off, Wifi off, everything off except 4G. I sent a text and received a text, and the battery drained to 46%. After a few mins with no use of the phone, the battery warning sound played. So I had to charge my phone at that point. It is just totally weird. Under same condition and same usage of the phone, the battery lasted for a day at least. (4G was on at the point.) I don't know what cause this problem. Anyways, I just unrooted mine and got a software update via OTA. I don't know if this will fix the problem. Any luck to you yet?
I am going to charge tonight and try current settings tomorrow and see how long battery last. It is to the point if I have to turn all this stuff off, doesn't it defeat the purpose of having a smartphone?

Try ZD Box, and use its task killer to stop any programs your not using right then. Pandora is another app that loves to stay on and chew at your battery...
My phone just started doing this as well. I've been using the TBolt for a couple of weeks now.
Just yesterday my battery life took a serious nose dive. I've adjusted all the settings I can and the battery is dropping like a drunk girl's panties...
I'm having to charge it all the time now just to keep it from giving me the low battery warning.
Ok well here it goes . Off charger for 30 mins 7 text ,this post and a restart and down 10% already. Wtf

That's about what mine took on average to reboot. 10-12%.
I'm at 72% after 11 hours of idle usage and that's on the 2750mah extended battery. That would put me at 46% after 12 hours having not touched the phone once. I literally fell asleep as I took it off the charger...
Something is jacked up and I don't know what.
Rooted, Virus ROM B3, 1.8G kernel (forget which).
I've gone to Imoseyon's Sense lean kernel, special edition.
We'll see how that goes...?
Wanted to report back as I think the culprit may be the wireless tether app.
I turned GPS, WiFi and all my sync's back on and the phone is back to giving me decent battery life.
I did some changes with the tether app and I'll report back to see if my suspicions are correct.

What is best ROM for battery life?

Hello,
Anybody who flashed tons of different ROMs, can you comment which ROM provided best battery life for you. I'm not looking for absolute numbers but comparison of different ROMs as far as battery drain is corncerned for the same user.
Is less about the rom and more about the kernel and u/v u/c in my opinion...radio can have an effect too
Currently I am on coca-cola with dag's .3 kernel using the Gideon battery saver script.
I like using that on the quickwiz rom too

Ive been flashing a lot of roms the past week. I'm currently using [ROM][UXKJ2]Buoyancy v1.3.0||Rogers/AT&T||[1/25/12]
Deff the best so far. Very quick and it's been 11.5 hours and I'm at 57%! Kudos to jomeister15 and his team!
You are on ATT network and in LTE enabled zone?
Nexus had the best for me. I also hear Buoyancy is great as well. Sky ice cream sandwhich is what im running now but i charge my phone a lot. An update should be coming soon for battery life fixes on it though.
radio on or off?
I've been running TPC v3 on my 727R for about 2 weeks, with his oc startup script. My battery life wasn't so great until I decided to start turning off data while not using it. Made my battery life go through the roof.
From full charged, I was still at 69% 20 hours later. Mind you, I wasn't using it that much but even still.
Which leads me to wonder: are people actually turning radio off when not in use? Because with it on, I can't get anywhere near those numbers.
What will you be missing if background sync is off while screen is out? everything relying on push notifications will stop working or will be there some other noticeable changes?

I use skyICS and I get pretty good battery.
The pic is of my first battery cycle on skyICS, with pretty decent usage on it. The red little bit at the end is me trying to kill the battery. I had wifi on, data, sync, flashlight, and ran quadrant standard non-stop for about a 30 minutes.
I think a lot of it will depend on how you use the phone. As mentioned above, simply turning off data saves you a lot of power. Going into airplane mode saves even more. I lose almost nothing in airplane mode (I put it on at night). You can get an app in the market that will auto turn off settings for you if you're too lazy to do it yourself.

Battery drain

My desire s battery drops from 100% to ~15% after about an hour of surfing with edge mobile network.(with different roms) And my friend tell me that this is unusual. I have tried calibrate the battery with the battery calibrate app and it didn't help . It's there anyway to solve this such as flashing baseband?
Thanks for helping.

first open battery usage and investigate which app eat a lot of power.
sometimes just restart the phone will clear out the issue.
The app which eat many power is the browser but I have tried other browsers too but same problem happened.
I have restarted and flashed tons of times and ROMs but same happened.

I tried cm stable, miui stable , HTC sense ROMs. It only drain when I surf with my edge mobile network. If I use WiFi its normally draining , about two to three hours.

serious battery problem
OK, I have a serious problem. I updated official RUU, and my phone is running smooth. Battery lasts 1-2 days, everything is working fine. But last night battery was on 17% and I put it to charge at 12pm, woke up at 6am and it was on 33%. I'm charging it right now and it's up to 41% then drops to 39% and so on. Tried another charger - same thing. It won't charge! No new apps, no new settings, battery stats shows the same power use,.... Battery health is good, Auto sync is off,.... I have Go Power Master, Juice Defender, shows no problems. 3G is off, it's on GSM only, Wi-Fi is off, GPS is off and so on, my phone is fully optimised and this happened last night. I charged it while off and now it's on 37%! So I guess it's not a software issue. Anybody has an answer or a clue what could be the problem, please? Is my battery dead (year of use)? Thanks in advance.
try to restart your phone?
Tried that. I'm currently charging it power off, turned it on and it's still draining. While it's off!
i guess it's battery problem. Borrow another battery from your friend and try again.
Well, it was a strange thing... I've noticed that GO Power Master is killing like 25 apps and prolonging time for some 2 and a half hours when you hit optimise button every 2 minutes. So some apps are running in the back and draining the battery. So I uninstalled some of them (clock widget, Noom, Zoner antivirus,...) and restarted phone and by the end of the day it was all stabilised like before. I don't know what happened. I'm still testing it but I've managed to charge it to 100% and there was no drain over night. We'll see.

Noom
I have a S2 and every day, at 20:00 the phone starts a process and gets very hot and also drains the battery.
I discover that if I freeze the Noom app, it doesn't happen.
So, I blame noom for your draining issues and mine.
Does anybody else having this problem?
Regards
I didn't had a problem since uninstall, but it happened again later, I think it was from Firefox. While it was on charger, I got popup note saying something like "phone is using more than current can deliver, try to kill some apps or turn phone off while charging." First time I see that note. Probably because it was on Sense, not on launcher. I've noticed that Firefox is using a lot of memory, uninstalled it and it was all normal like before.

I had this problem, but svery time it was solved with rebooting. It showed normal percentage. I think, you just need to reboot device sometimes, may be once in two days. I suppose to think the couse of ghis problem is a kernel) it can be engaged with not an exact process, so battery drains. Try to change kernel, or rom, or battery)

Battery draw only after WiFi use

I rarely ever use WiFi but when I do after I get back I to a good signal area and turn WiFi off my phone has a big draw on the battery.
For example... I go to my friend's house where signal is poor and I turn on WiFi where there. Get home that night and turn WiFi off and charge the phone over night. Next day by lunch I'm around 60% battery left with about 15 min screen on time where I'd usually be around 90%. Reboot phone and battery draw will stop.
I'm on stock Rom and kernal, 4.4.2, black 32 gig model, t mobile service, of any of this matters.

There have been a couple posts about this issue. It's a bug in Android or the firmware, don't know which one. Cycling airplane mode should also fix it.
I searched but didn't find anything. I'll try cycling airplane mode next time but I'd still like to find a permanent fix.

It happens on full stock also. BBS doesn't show anything. Literally 5-8% per hour drain, and BBS shows nothing. Nor does the system battery stats. I'm thinking that maybe it's an issue like the screens on this device, where everyone's looks a little different. Maybe there's a slight variation in some of the hardware, like the modem, that is causing this issue for some and not for others. The N7 2013's have the whole touch screen fiasco to support this theory.
It could be in the stock kernel code. If that's true, it's been carried over to FK.
It could be in the modem. But it still happens on both of them.

For some it does but also for some it does not. May as well limit the variables whilst troubleshooting. Doesn't happen to me on full stock or any other ROM and kernel combination so I doubt the issue exists specifically in full stock without any other combination of attributing factors.

I'm not saying I don't believe you. I'm just saying if it doesn't affect everyone, there is more to it than a straight up bug. It must be a combination of things (possibly including a bug) and the best troubleshooting is to limit the variables.
Just to be clear mine is stock unlocked. I was going to flash cm11 and see if that stops the problem but it seems as if it won't. Since it seems some have it and some don't getting the phone exchanged might be my best option?

just so i'm clear.... i notice the drain after i turn off wifi, the drain could start as soon as i turn it on but i'm not sure. i really notice the hit the next day at work. i'm usually at 90% around noon (i take my phone off the charger around 7:30) and if i used wifi the day before i will notice i'll be at 50-60% by lunch. for example i went the entire day today, used my phone like crazy at lunch time and just got off a 10 min video call with my kid and my battery is at 37%. if i had used wifi before this charge the phone wouldn't have made it to this point without needing a recharge.

This seems similar to what I've seen. I'm fairly certain it happens with wifi both on and off, but as I said, I do have it toggle every day. I reboot my phone a lot because of Xposed module updates, but I disabled the wifi toggle task that I have Tasker run every morning and afternoon, I will try to see if it still happens.
