[Q] No Gmail notification on lockscreen (5.1.1) - Ascend Mate 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

After updating to 5.1 .1 (manual update) I cannot find a way to turn on lockscreen notification for Gmail (= in notification center Gmail does not show up in the application list).
Quite annoying, as I used to getting Gmail notifications under 4.4 (with NiLS widget).
- turning on built in 'email' notification is not a solution to me (I don't want to use the Huawei mail app, but want to stay with Gmail)
- unistalling (actually not possible; rather disabling and re-enabling) the Gmail app does not help
- downloading, installing Inbox solves the issue, as I can get Gmail lockscreen notifications from Inbox -but as I use Gmail for my business account, the completely random, chaotic design of Inbox does not suit my life..
- and please, don't advice the standard 'do a factory reset' ; it does not solve the issue.
Any further ideas, suggestions on this issue, please? I really do miss Gmail notifications on my lockscreen.

Hi, got same issue with my new Honor 7. No gmail notifications on LockScreen, gmail and many other pre-installed google apps aren't in Huawei Notification Center. It seems i can't remove google pre-installed apps (I tried, only delete updates)... Any ideas?

If you're rooted remove the Gmail app with SD Maid or similar, then reinstall from Play Store and it should appear on the list. I tested this successfully on B327.

Same here with the Huawei Ascend Mate 7. I can't uninstall the google apps... So, no notification on LockScreen, too.

It's just amazing how Huawei f***s up basic Android features again and again with each new firmware. So glad I switched phones ...

any news or other solution forma phone not rooted?

I got a Y6 and first of all, the "Notification Manager" shows an "Lockscreen Notification" for most app except for G-Mail of course ... which is just unacceptable but the fun thing is ... none of the installed and (directly) available Lockscreen Themes even support Notifications.
Huawei seems to feature no Quality assurance team whatsoever ... this will be my first and last Huawei phone. They can't even get the most essential and basic things right.

[info] Hangout not showing new SMS

Hi,
Recently I got some issues with Hangout not waking up or making sound when receiving new SMS.
After some research it seems to be related to playstore issue.
The story:
Got a brand new stock Nexus 5, rooted it, installed bunch of app and then no more notification for SMS in hangout.
Did a wipe, did not install anything, Hangout was working fine.
Installed patched playstore, Hangout and some Google Now functions stopped working (like automatic location update, notifications, etc...)
The fix:
If you installed a modded playstore, revert back to stock or wipe to fix it.
This is particularly true with LuckyPatcher cracked playstore that broke links between Playstore and other google apps.
If you dont want to wipe or keep your modded playstore, use GoSMS pro for notifications.
Note:
There is an issue with official Playstore that drain battery because of kernel partial wakelock for nlplocator. Using modded playstore broke the automatic nlplocator and this way fixes the batery drain, but you lose functionnality especially about location informations (google now will only update your location on user interaction).
Hope it can help talented person that wants to investigate this issue.
Regards,

No reminders from Google Calendar

I was having problems with the stock calendar app not picking up my reminders from my Google Calendar. Instead, I just installed the regular Google Calendar app however for some reason I am not getting any notifications for reminders. The reminders are definitely in the calendar, and I am notified on my other devices, however it does not seem to work on my Honor 8. Is there a setting I need to tweak to allow this?
Thanks.
Hi,
Do you have any issues with any other apps not showing notifications?
Cheers

Everyting else seems to work fine.
Is there any solution? I have exactly the same problem.
Make sure you allow calendar app full access in settings. I don't use a Google calendar app on this device. But reminders in my Google account and pushed through as well as my regular Calendar app.
This was on Android 6 and now Android 7..
Side note I also have Google Calendar sync up in Google account settings.. Check your setting to see if there similar to my ones..

Gmail Notifications

Hello, im loving my OP7 Pro so far - sadly i got one issue. I don't receive Notifs from Gmail... i enabled them all (the app does not appear in battery optimization so i cannot disable that). i got no issues with other apps. Im running out of idea.. i found a topic about the 6 and 5T but didnt deliver and sultion... anyone got the same problem?
i only see the mails if i actually open gmail.
I had the same issue with Gmail, I'm a Google apps user so have a service agreement with them, they managed to fix it at their end.
If your issue is the same as mine then you're Gmail notifications will not work on other phones too.
If they do work on other phones then you're issue is different to the one I had.
I hope this may help.

hello, thanks for your quick reply,
they worked fine on my huawei mate 20 x before.
so i guess the error is on a secret / hidden setting i cannot find
It's the deep sleep Android goes to. It's not showing in the battery optimization bc GMAIL is a system app.
Fix 1, Uninstall system GMAIL app with Titanium backup "root required" and install from the app store. It will show up in battery optimization then add to no optimize.
Fix 2, run "dumpsys deviceidle disable" w/o quotes in Terminal Emulator under SU "Root required" or add in into script and have execute at boot.
Fix 1 and 2 both worked for me before.
I installed magisk module, OxygenOS Gmail Battery Fix. It works for me so far.

It also doesn't work if I keep Gmail open and just turn the screen off.
So I basically need to root it to get notifications? Seems rather unintended no?
You'll need root to turn off Android doze or uninstall Gmail as a system app and reinstall as user app. That's the nature of the beast.

You can do it without root as well: Using Nova Launcher (or another launcher which can create activity shortcuts), long press on homescreen, click on widget and create an activity for: Settings -> Battery optimization (.Settings$HighPowerApplicationsActivity), open it, set to "all Apps" with the dropdown menu and it will show all Apps including system Apps. Then choose "not optimized" for Gmail

That's another issue then if it doesn't notify you if you send an email shortly after turning off the screen. Do you get notifications when the screen is on?
I found a great substitute for Gmail. Try Edison Email on the Play store. Notifications work great, and app is very customizable.

I tried it and i like it... yet same problem as gmail.. mails only show when i open the app.. and i excluded edison already from battery optimization... i really dont know what i am doing wrong
I have exactly the same issue...
Same here. With activty launcher from Nova i can change Gmail to ''dont optimize''. But it will reset after restart...
Go to Settings / Accounts / Google / Account sync
Disable and reenable sync for Gmail.
This fixes it for me every time. Issue typically comes back after some Gmail updates (not after all updates).

nope doesnt work either
Trust me when I say this won't work, it took Google 2 weeks and lots of bug reports for them to find the issue assuming it's the same as mine.
Please confirm you still receive notifications on a different phone.
If not like I had, Google technical support had to fix something there end.
Having the same issue on my S10+ .. I receive some notifications on one Gmail account - but it's hit/miss on the rest.

I installed Outlook and it works flawlessly, receiving a notification even couple of seconds before my computer. I used it for Gmail accounts and also for Exchange account.

Question [SOLVED] Motorola Edge S Google Contacts Sync Issue

Disclaimer: I do not intend to root/flash to a different ROM and will remain using China ROM.
Hi guys, I hope someone can help me with this issue. I already installed Google Play services and basically all Google apps via Play Store.
My issue is with Google Contacts as it seems the phone will not let me sync. My existing contacts do not appear due to sync issue.
If I go to Settings > Google Contacts Sync > then enable Automatically Sync, once I press back button, the phone will disable sync.
I already did the "usual" troubleshooting steps like restart your phone, kill the app and whatnot but this issue still persists.
Anybody knows how to fix this issue?
TIA.
Hi,
i facing this issue last month and solved it right now, i installed old apk google contact ( i will check it what version )
is there contact sync option under account google ?
you can check in settings->accounts->Google
The contacts sync option is available but the phone keeps "disabling" everytime I enable contacts sync (check my screenshot).
I'm kinda frustrated that I want to reset my phone and start from scratch just in case Google Play services got messed up.
I mean you can check in setting --- account --- your googgle account --- account sync
Are that option contacts sync option ?
I already found old apk google contact, you can try instal this, dont forget to disable smart background for aplication contact
YOU ARE A LIFESAVER! Thanks! It really fixed my sync contacts issue! GApps suite works perfectly now and I feel my phone is now completely... complete!
Also, I don't need to install Google Contacts since the default China ROM "Contacts" app does its job synching all my Google contacts already.
Just to add, make sure to DENY access on Google Contacts Sync app.
Reason: In other Moto devices running China ROM (ex. Edge S Pro), there is a bug in synching Google Contacts and Whatsapp.
Device will keep on deleting/modifying (removing symbols) entries RANDOMLY. This may be the culprit.
Also, you need to remove ALL contacts and re-add them after you have signed in to your WhatsApp. This is the only way for Google not to mess up with my conctacts.
Update: You need to DISABLE stock Moto dialer, contacts, Lenovo Appcenter and LeCloud apps as it is messing up Google contacts. Do this BEFORE installing Google contacts sync apk. Install Google dialer and contacts. Done.

thanks it finally work on my edge x30 , thanks you saved my life
cheers mate
Just to add for Edge x30 or any Moto China ROM users:
After setting up your GMS and you encountered this issue - "Intent Filter Verification Service has stopped"
- just search for the app and CLEAR DATA. Restart your phone and you won't have this error anymore.
Another update:
On latest software updates (Feb or April 2022 patch and above) on my Edge S Pro and Edge X30, Lenovo may have fixed the bug where the system modifies your contact numbers (ex. Removing the + symbol if you save your contacts with country code).
In my case, I do NOT need to disable any Moto apps (App Center, stock dialer, wallet, etc).
Here's what I did:
1. Installed all GApps (including contacts sync, Google Dialer and Google Contacts).
2. Disabled Moto apps (stock dialer, contacts, app center, etc)
3. Installed my other apps (Whatsapp, etc).
4. Enabled Moto apps
5. Uninstalled Google Dialer and Google Contacts.
6. Logged in to my other apps (Whatsapp, etc).
7. Done.
Side note: if you want your Google Calendar accounts to get sycned with the Moto calendar, just install Google Calendar then open Moto Calendar and you will now see your accounts/birthdays/holidays. You can proceed to uninstall Google Calendar. Weird bug but that's how it works.

Question GMS Notifications

Hello,
Does anyone know how to fix the delayed google services notifications? I have tried everything but they still came late, I have a google pixel and they came on time compared to my Fold 2 this happens when the device is locked but when I unlock it the notifications start popping out.
I have tried all these settings:
Disabled Battery->Settings->Scenarios->Sleep mode
Enabled Apps->Gmail->Autostart and Changed Battery saver mode to unrestricted
Enabled all notifications for the App in question
Rooted my devices and disabled Doze with the Doze off app
ran adb shell dumpsys deviceidle disable
Nothing has worked for me , any other idea what I could do?
Thanks
I don't know what GMS notifications are but I was going insane not getting gmail notifications when my phone screen was off as well, go back and look at my posts in this forum about it.
the app DozeOff fixed it for me from the Fdroid store. If you are rooted that should fix it. I think a combo of that app plus using the systemizer magisk module and making apps I was having problems with notifications system apps fixed it, dozeoff alone may fix it if you want to try that first.

GMS = Google Mobile Services, I have the dozeoff app installed but that alone didn't fix the issue, I'll try systemizing the apps.
Thanks!!
GMS is a framework, not an app. There are two basic frameworks on Android devices - GMS (Google Mobile Services) and HMS (Huawei Mobile Services). These frameworks must be installed on your device for apps from those respective infrastructures to work. GMS is backed into the firmware on Xiaomi CN ROMS, but it is not turned on by default. Search "Google" in your settings and you find "Google Basic Services". Turn it on. After that step, if you are not receiving instant notifications for particular Google apps, such as Gmail, you may want to use a different app. Email notifications using the Gmail app are notoriously slow on this device, as are Google email accounts accessed using the Outlook email app. The workaround for delayed Gmail notifications is to use an app called Edison Mail. Gmail accounts set up in Edison Mail get instant notifications. What other Google apps are you experiencing delayed notifications on?

Thank you for the clarification. The "Google Basic Services" has been enabled all the time and the issue persists, I also have notification issues with the Google Home app they are not arriving on time(I have Nest Security cameras) of course that app also uses the GMS framework for push notifications.
Thanks

Where to find this optimizations menu?
Go to main Settings on your Xiaomi device. Scroll down to find About Device/Phone and tap on it. Locate MIUI Version and tap several times on it. After that, you will get a message "You're now a developer!" on your device screen. Go back into Settings and you will now see Developer Options. Scroll down to the bottom of those options and toggle off Miui Optimizations.
