wanna return note 5 within 14 days but can't downgrade from root - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note5

i used my upgrade to get the note 5 but I'm not really feeling it, wanna return within my 14 day window. unfortunately i updated to AI06 then rooted, & there doesn't seem to be any devs for this variant, as there's no way i know of to return to complete stock once updated to latest and rooted. no Odin flashables or anything, anyone know of a way to return to stock unrooted from my predicament or any other ideas? any help is much appreciated!!

chaz, i was thinking about going for the nexus 6p outta pocket so i don't have to finance anything on top of my bill. i know you're pretty knowledgeable with android, do you think it know if the nexus would be capable of sprint spark. bc i would Def miss that i consistently get 90mbps down on LTE with the unlimited data

just Google it, looks like it hits all three bands (41)

Nexus 6p has carrier aggregate just like the note 5 ...it also has a cat 9 modem which is capable of 20x20x20 if sprint ever enables it

Current status of rooting/custom ROMs?

So I just ordered an AT&T Note 3 and from what I'm reading it appears that I should be hoping it does NOT come with KK preinstalled, correct?
Everything I see tells me that if I'm on KK there is no current root method, yes?
Also, if I am able to root am I able to use the custom Roms available? I'm coming from a Nexus 5 so everything seems much more complicated over here ?

Sure you can root KK roms, but KNOX will be triggered to 0x1 and warranty could be voided (depending on where you live). Btw i came from a N5 too

If I don't care about voiding my warranty can I accept the official KK update and still get root?
Also, how do you like it compared to the N5? Did you keep your N5 or sell it?

Where do you live? You can download the latest available 4.4.2 rom from here http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/2/ and flash it with Odin 3.07. After that flash a custom recovery and then flash the latest superSU.zip in recovery and you`re set. You can also flash a prerooted custom rom straight with a custom recovery. I sold my N5 cause i`am excited about the coming OnePlusOne phone and i might just try that one.

KK, good luck

Been a long time since update

The current ROM I have is BoneStockRom V3.3, I like it good enough but looking to see what else is out there. I do NOT want something that I have to flash all the time. I would like something more up to date, stable and has a better radio/signal than what I have now.
know I am asking for many opinions, but I love feedback, so cab you guys give me your thoughts?
THanks

As far as a radio you can update to the latest modem if you'd like which is NE1 without having any issues. I've ran tons of roms on my old S3 but the best by far was slimkat. It's truly up to you what you want but your best bet is to read others opinions

I also have a Note 3 for Verizon, but when I got it it had 4.4.4 and from what I have read, there is not a root for it. I mainly want to root to get rid of the bloatware and get the mobile hotspot freed up. I tried using FoxFi on the Note 3, but that was horrible.
Thanks again.

I have the S3 still simply because it is rooted. I got the Note 3 a few months ago but at that time I did not know that it could not be rooted since it has 4.4.4. I am using the S3 now because it is rooted and I can mess with it. If I could root the Note 3, then I would.

Verizon rolling out Stagefright patch for Galaxy S5

Verizon is rolling out Stagefright OTA patch for Galaxy S5. I installed and tested the patch. My phone is stock/un-rooted, and appears to be working fine after the patch.
What android version?
G900VVRU2BOG5 is the new update VZ rolling out...
I have captured the update.zip OTA ..
Let me know if some needs for research. .

I think you missed posting in a couple hundred other threads...
Or you can just use viper4android, kill stagefright, and tell Verizon, "Thanks, but no thanks--I'm in this for _me_ now."
I am not entirely sure what that means, but man, the day when this contract ends cannot come soon enough.

Pretty sure it's still 5.0. I don't think the S5 will be getting any more updates, it's at the end of its software cycle since 5.0, this update was only released for the stagefright fix.

No. Verizon's own custom OE1 is the reason that it's not rootable. Once you have the OE1 Kernel or higher, you cannot root unless they find another exploit. I doubt they will considering it's an older phone that's already being phased out in terms of support.

Take it back. You have a "new" phone that basically has no support for it anymore. If you have something to use currently other than the S5, I'd consider waiting till the new Google Nexus 5 or 6 2015 edition coming out this year. That should have root and an unlocked bootloader (Google wouldn't stand for Verizon locking down their phone).

You would have to find a phone you like, go to that forum, and check. I believe any phone with an unlocked bootloader can always be rooted? And I'm pretty sure the Google nexus 5/6 (the old ones) will always be rootable.
I'm jumping ship from Samsung (I wanted to move to the Note at one point, but Samsung screwed up big time with their phones trying to make it like an iPhone, and with Samsung/Verizon in bed with locking up root/bootloader).

There's a search bar at the top of XDA where you can enter a device. It also allows you to specify which carrier as well. This is from the M9 forum. Says you need a JAVA card which is expensive, but it unlocks the phone/allows root. You can also donate (usually $20-60) users to do it for you:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/ver...t-s-off-how-root-s-off-verizon-m9-20-t3123178
I have no idea about the M8, seems to be the same, have to have S-OFF or whatever the heck that means. Do research yourself if you want the phone.
I don't think I saw anyone ask this yet...

Follow the instructions in muniz_ri's thread. He hasn't released the deodexed version though. You should never take ota when rooted, and you should actually have it disabled as soon as you root. One user reported that they ota updated without losing root, but I'd never recommend it.
There is no benefit in disabling it. You have to authorize any update, so it cannot overwrite it on its own. The only reason to disable it is the popup after an update comes out which can be stopped by deleting the update.zip then having the install fail.
Two or three updates ago, I lost the ability to rotate my screen unless an app forces it to rotate, now with this update my phone no longer reads sd cards, and in fact boot loops if there is one inserted. I've done a lot of searching, both when the initial problem manifested, and now with the new problem, but haven't seen anyone with a fix. Any suggestions?

Root for Build LRX22G-G920VVRU2AOF1

I picked up the S6 from Verizon over the weekend and without thinking I took an out of the box update that pushed the build to OF1. From what I have been reading there's no going back from this build. Is that true and would anyone know if someone is working on a method to root this new build or that will allow us to roll back to the old build to gain root?

as such, im assuming, from lack of ability to load custom recovery, as well as not reload the baseband and have it stick, its pointless to try downgrading to the oldest stock? it bricks?
somewhat noob and would love a redirect to a better forum for this q if known.

Resetting the LG V20 when I return it for the S8 Plus

Hi,
Has anyone done a Jump upgrade where the device being returned has been rooted and a custom ROM has been installed? Does TMobile care if the device has been rooted and a new ROM installed? I can flash back to stock and relock the bootloader but was wondering if it's necessary?
Thanks in advance.
I've heard it go both ways. Go back to stock just to be sure
Thanks, I was going to do that once I get the new device. Just wondering what they would consider "unacceptable". Yes, this is me being lazy.
It really depends on the rep who checks it. I'm resetting mine this afternoon, waiting for the Plus myself

Would you mind sharing what you're going to do to reset it? I was going to use this:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/v20/how-to/restore-v20-to-100-stock-bricked-devices-t3524903
But not sure if there's a simpler method to go back to factory default.
Thanks in advance.
That's the thread I'm looking at. Or, I may just flash the T-Mobile stock ROM and leave it at that

Some CS reps don't even look or care but its better to be on the safe side. Would suck if they denied you and you had to go home to reload stock TMO ROM.

I'm on JOD and I've returned devices that were previously rooted and loaded with a custom ROM with no issue. Even a Note 5 that was rooted which permanently broke Samsung Pay. I'm also a manager at a corporate store & most reps wouldn't even know what they were looking at to be honest lol. So long as it powers on and has no damage you're good.

*shrug* I have absolutely NO idea, but I'm guessing as the S8+ is going to show up in its own box with all the other stuff for the device, and all I have put BACK in the return box is JUST the LG V20, I would assume there's going to be plenty of room.
Ha, I'm in this boat too. Too lazy to restore but I will if it means there might be a problem. I thought they just force flash a stock firmware when they got it. What to do.....What to do...
