wipe internal storage - Galaxy Note 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have decided to wipe the internal storage because I have the dreaded Miscellaneous Storage problem, and have been unable to find the culprit file or folder. :silly:
I have seen the "Mounts and storage" section in the CWM recovery, how do I do the internal storage wipe??
And here's the stupid question: won't that also delete the CWM recovery????
Thanks!

Mounts and Storage
Format.
System Cache Data Preload
You are not touching recovery .

[Q] rom flash without sd card

Could use some help... I've flashed many roms before but this is my first doing so to a device without sd card storage (i9023). How would I go about flashing a rom to my phone? and how can i nandroid backup without it being deleted when I wipe the device?
Don't worry bro... Wiping Data(factory reset), Dalvik, and Cache, won't also wipe your /sdcard partition.
/sdcard can be wiped out with "format" which can be found on "mounts and storage" section.
OK, thanks. just to confirm, when you say /sdcard, you refer to the internal storage correct?

Yes, that's correct.
"/sdcard" won't be formated if you do wiping for other partition.
furthermore, even you wiped sdcard, you can also mount usb to your PC and transfer file after you wipef.
one more thing, there is one thing called "Odin" can allow you flash without sdcard

[Q] CWM 5.0.2.0 Cant see SDCard files

I decided to install a new ROM and this is what I did:
-wipe data/factory reset
-wipe cache
-wipe dalvik
-format /system (which I'm not sure if I should have done)
Now when I go to install zip from sdcard, it shows files from my internal storage. It never did this before, I'm not sure what the problem is. I tried searching for it in the questions, but didn't find a solution. How can I make it list files from my external sd card?
There is a folder in there called external_sd but it shows no files. When I mount USB Storage, all my files are there.
Please help,
Thanks
Edit: So I was able to put files in the external_sd folder from my SDCard and install the ROM, but I still don't understand why it shows my Internal Files?

[Q] FORMAT Data/Media... ?

I would like to format my /dat/media.. and then I would like to re-flash the ROM I am using. Since we all know the Note 5 does not have a sdCard port/reader
I can not figure out were to put my ROM that I will be flashing. There is no safe place to store it is there if I do a full FORMAT of /data/media. If I
format /data/media wont that wipe everything ?? even my image file of my ROM. Normally I would store it on an external sdCard then format /data/media..
and then copy the ROM image file back from the sdCard to the phones internal sdcard.
Bottom line .... I want to WIPE my entire phone EVEN /data/media then re-flash my ROM.
Thank you for any tips help.
My phone currently is Rooted and running [MULTI-LANG-6.0.1] TEKXodus HYBRID N5/S7Edge URv7.5E 5/04/16 N920X/G928X

If you have twrp recovery, it will not touch your internal sdcard or any of it's contents unless
you purposely click on the advanced wipe option indicating that you actually want to format it.
By default the internal sdcard in twrp is not check marked.
Simply doing a "Wipe" and a "Factory Reset" in twrp will not format, wipe or delete anything
located in your internal sdcard.
Good luck,
Have a great day!

Yes BUT you missunderstand what I am trying to do. I want to WIPE internal memory. I want to wipe all traces of old programs located both on the internal SD and also located in data/media
Make sense ??
If I do it your way it will still leave all the stuff in the internal area and without doing a format DATA ( YES ) the stuff in /data/media will also still be untouched.. I want all traces of old user installed programs gone.
Help ?

With twrp thats easy too, simply click Wipe and then click "advanced wipe" and there you will see options
for each individual type of wipe, Wipe Data, System, Cache, Dalvik and "Wipe Internal SDCARD".

Wipe: cache devcache data internal system and then FORMAT DATA ( data/media )

Copy the image file into your computer then after the wipe copy it back into the phone while the phone is still in the twrp screen.
The new twrp 3.0.2 allows USB file transfers while twrp is running.

All partitions is mounted.

Internal Storage Partition into 2 storage

Dear fellow mi4c users,
is it possible to have internal storage partition into 2 section? so i could have say like 10gb "internal storage" that could be wiped when i clean installed new rom and 22gb "external storage" that no need to be wiped when installed new rom?
I tired of copying my data many gigs to otg first everytime i installed new rom
many thx
You don't have to wipe your "sdcard" folder when you install a new ROM. When you wipe data you only lose your app data and system's one, but your sdcard will not change..
EDIT: Just to be more clear, these are the only wipes you need when you flash a ROM.
