I'm using the Google Now launcher on my S7, and it along with a Marshmallow theme from the Samsung theme store has given the phone a nice stock Android look. Unfortunately, the icon pack included along with the Marshmallow theme hasn't applied on GNL. I know GNL doesn't natively support icon packs but has anyone figured out a workaround for this? The TouchWiz icons stand out otherwise. And when I say icon packs, I mean in the app drawer too, not just modded shortcuts on the home screen.
In case you have root you can use Xposed and the XGEL module to use a different icon pack:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/modules/mod-xposed-gel-settings-t2647275
Otherwise (i.e. without root) I would recommend a launcher like Nova.
I'm not rooted.

Use Nova Launcher. You can set it up to look exactly like GEL, but it's more functional and performs better. You can use Google Opinion Rewards to build up a couple of £/$ to cover the cost of "Prime" but it's not necessary.
Fyi for anyone googling this or looking for this still. I had my s7 edge display scaling set to condensed to fit more on the screen. Once I changed it back to standard (with the material Samsung theme applied) and rebooted the correct icons appeared. Could be that the change forces the launcher to recreate icons or clear it's cache etc.
Also, stock android lovers, install good lock from the galaxy app stores to bring the stock android notification shade and status bar into your s7. Got a very stock feel now with Samsung material theme, Google now launcher and good lock.
Hope this helps someone.
So switch your display scaling after setting your theme should flush the icons ??
This is just a quick how to: With apps and everything already out there created by you fabulous developers...i just put them together to get a Developer Preview 2 Experience on nearly any phone.
Ive got a Nexus 6P and set out to get the new animations and new app switcher and Nav Bar icons.
Like most i have installed the Newest DP2 Launcher But i wanted the home buttons on the bottom to change. which i was able to compile after some work.
So for a complete setup get these:
- Rootless DP2 Launcher with Icon Support Get Q-4753642.apk - https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/app-rootless-pixel-2-launcher-google-t3688393
- Android P-Ify via Xposed...needs Xposed installed therefore Root
This will Give you P Animations, P App Switcher, P Rounded Notifications = Amazing!! - https://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/modules/xposed-android-p-ify-features-t3764556
- App Called SoftKeyz - $1.99 Root - BACK UP YOUR OWN ICONS INSIDE APP BEFORE DOING ANYTHING - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.janis605.softkeyz&hl=en_US
Take Attached Home Icon and Upload inside app with out cropping...im not smart enough to get the icon get stretched long enough but its close.
Check out my Screen Shots. PS App Will Default to Tiny Default Icons when Background is White ...just the way it is i guess.
-- I ended up loading a blank app switcher icon for it to get that DP2 effect.
Enjoy if i missed anything i will promptly fix!!
Orrrr we can now snag the XDA Gestures app which pretty much nails what I was looking for. You Can customize the size of the pill and get your basic features.
Maybe I should edit the post to just recommend to grab those?
Apparently I'm alone in wanting this super nerdy Dev Preview feature lol.

Wow, I just did the same thing you did. But I wish I would've seen your post first lol ?*
One tip is that I grabbed a root app called 'Pixel Launcher Mods' from XDA Labs, it essentially adds icon pack support to the Pixel Launcher (something I knew I'd miss from Nova), and was able to load in icons from 'Dark Pixel Icon Pack'.
I'm messing around with Pi substratum theme, but thinking of ditching it all together (it didn't add much and is currently kinda buggy).
Only things I'm missing now are Nova's app launch gestures on app icons, and the double tap on home screen to sleep gesture..
To sum it up:
-XDA's 'Navigation Gesture' app
-'Android P-ify' Xposed module
-Rootless modded dp2 Pixel Launcher
-'Pixel Launcher Mods' app
Thanks for making your post, and let me know if you have questions about my setup @TheYetti1
Ohh sweet man. I'll look into the mods for icon support cuz that's probably the only thing left that could tweak my fun.
Everything else for me runs pretty smooth. The pify is great cuz it gets me the recents switcher. The dark theme and rounded everything is pretty minor but appealing.
I'll look for the pixel mods thing thanks!!
Booo I can't seem to get pixel mods to work. I've got the pixel launcher with mods that gives me a choice of a few generic icon changes just built into the settings. Wonder if that's causing me issues?

Oh ya you need his next release from his github, it's V 6 release 17 I believe
Hello guys.
I have 2 similiar Icon Packs (LineX & Linebit). I have some apps from my country that are not in the icon pack. When I manually pick the icon pack and want to search for replacement icons (school grade app=any school themed icon) it shows all icons, but I can't search with words for particular one like with Nova Launcher...so I'd have to scroll all the way through and look through over 4000 icons each time. I have OnePlus 7 Pro with Android 10.
I tried "Iconzy" icon pack manager with search engine. Works with Nova Launcher, but when I try it in OnePlus launcher...it shows "Unable to load icon package source" or something like that.
So I'm stuck...I can't search per icon pack, cuz there is no magnifying glass icon to search....Iconzy doesn't work. Tried some other app called ICondy, but it made APK file of the icons I"ve picked for each app from the 2 bought icon packs previously mentioned, but when installed and picked - it didnt make a damn thing. All apps looked like STOCK. I now understand whz...ICondy app was updated in 2015 for Android 6, so that's maybe why.
Any suggestion where I could have search button for the icons? Or an app / software for PC where I could make my icon pack from these 2 icon packs (LineX & Linebit) that would suit my needs? I'm fine with this tedious workaround, it will be much easier to pick it from 2x4000 icon list with the scary part that it might bug and lose it's memory.
And why? I heard Nova Launcher (any 3rd party launcher) is buggy on Android 10 because some gesture elements or IDK. And I want to see the changed icons in "Recent Apps / Multitask app manager", which Nova Launcher doesn't change I believe.
Thanks a lot guys

Do you guys manage somehow to remove search bar from the home screen with Pixel launcher and add % display in QS? I checked the mods in pixel 6 pro thread, but don't know if they will work on A13/7 pro.

Hello. I got the phone today. And that's the first thing that bothered me. But as far as I could find the information, it is not possible to remove it.

Not possibe on stock launcher
Maybe with aosp mods ( you will need lsposed)
I just use Nova launcher 8.0.3 beta with Nova Google companion. It's a heck of a lot easier and it lets you hide the notification bar as well.
I use LawnChair as Launcher. It is imho nicer then the stock one and has more features and you can remove the search bar from home screen
I wish they would allow you to do this instead of a third party launcher - the animations in third party launchers are not great compared to stock.

Not sure what you mean by the "animations" but I use Nova Prime and 3 button navigation, and everything works great. I used gesture navigation for awhile but got tired of it a couple of years ago and went back to button navigation and never looked back.

When you swipe away an app it animates the app going back into the icon in a fluid way. Third party launchers can't do this.
Use Pixel Launcher Mods to hide apps, enable icon packs, and change out the at a glance or searchbar widget. It requires Magisk.
In order to blank either of the widgets you need an empty widget, I prefer The Empty Widget on the Play Store since it has zero permissions and nothing superfluous. You can then use the hide apps function to hide the icon.
In order to modify the QS you will need AOSP Mods which requires Magisk and LSPosed. The Xposed version is the minimum, but if you download the Full version it will come with overlay themes to allow you to remove the navbar, change fonts, theme the QS, and change the system icons style.

Does this method to hide the searchbar widget move the icon drawer down to fill the gap?
Not seen anything on the stock launcher that makes it worth putting up with the limitations. Even when mods are used, it's still clunky and limited (for example, you can't change icons for individual apps).
Nova for me, far better and it does everything the stock launcher does and more. I've always found some people being desperate to stick with stock a bit strange.

With the Pixel Launcher mod you can change icons for individual apps while using the stock Pixel Launcher.
I've used Nova, Lawnchair and Hyperion for years and years but am currently using the stock Pixel Launcher with the Pixel Launcher mod to change icons and a Substratum theme to get rid of the gesture pill. Not desperate, just a personal preference. I guess I would fall into the strange category
Wich substratum theme are you using?
Can you had some screenshots?
Thx

No, you are not removing it but rather replacing it with another widget which is just going to be a blank one.

It is a Substratum theme (FSIM-Version1.apk) for this Magisk mod. You can find it via the Telegram link in that Github repo.
Ahh ok...but needs root
A happy Nova user here, what you want is what you get

I took prefer to do this. Pixel Launcher Mod has something that Lawnchair used to have but no longer does if I'm not mistaken, but the ability to apply multiple icon packs at once pretty much keeps all your icons themed at(I normally have 3-4 applied) all times.
Ok, I checked out the pixel mod again. It offers a lot but still falls well short of making the Pixel launcher an everyday use for me.
For example, you can't get rid of both the top and bottom bars at the same time (not the mods fault, I know). And my main issue with it is that you can't change the grid size so you're stuck with 4 columns and 5 rows which simply isn't enough for me.
So whilst the animations and smoothness are nice, they're not nice enough for me to put up with the stupid limitations Google have put in place.

For what it's worth, the stock Pixel Launcher goes up to 5 x 5.
