I call BS. Probably someone who has little knowledge on how to use an android device. I have used photos for months and never had this issue. I even hoped my photos were backed up when I had to do on a recent wipe and Google didn't "accidentally" back mine up lol.

Yeah he moved the camera away in the video hmmm might give it a try and see

Actually i swear this happened to me. I took 2 pictures which were xxx rated and sent them to my wife via stock messaging app then deleted the pics from my phone a bit later. A couple days later i entered the photo section on the pc i beleive it was through G+, i could be mistaken how i accessed the photo section i dont remember now, and those 2 pics were there! I was shocked and embarrassed at the same time. My next mission was to figure out if they were public or privately filed. It seems they were private, but i do not trust photos, drive, or any of those pic and storage apps anymore. True story i promise...

Good find. I just looked and i don't have that option. I'm guessing it's because i removed photos from my phone. Should install photos, turn that of, then Uninstall again. Thanks Now take my example and say your kids look at that photos on the PC....i think i might have hung myself if my kids saw those pics?

I have Google Photos upload photos before I have even set it up. I'm talking right after flashing a new ROM and then downloading Google Photos automatically from the Play Store but I haven't even opened the app yet. I finally went in to backup all my photos before flashing again and I discovered it already backed everything up. Not that I care that much because I was going to back them up anyway but it's just a little creepy.

You think maybe you guys opted to restore your apps and some of that app data google holds on to then keep the photo app in back up mode?

I dont think so only because i have never in my life used Photos or any other cloud storage for my photos. I use my sd card and my 2trb personal cloud sitting on my shelf. First thing i do is remove Photos and many other apps i dont use when i load a rom so it must happen in the couple of minutes between booting the rom and removing apps...its kind of annoying

Apps wont install

As of yesterday, none of the apps I download from either the marketplace or amazon will install. They will download without problem, but they won't actually install.
Anyone else having this problem or know of a fix?
What does the error log say?

go to applications>Manage Applications>Market>uninstall updates and clear data and cache. then go back into market and sign back in. hopefully that will fix it.
This happened to me, I had to clear some space on hard drive or whatever you want to call it? (Solid state memory, SSD, I'm really not sure) It totally fixed it.

My medical school has lectures online. I d/l them on my desktop computer, transfer them over USB, and watch them on my xoom. I fill up space pretty quickly. Each organ system is only 2 weeks, so I also empty space pretty quickly. This also means I'm waiting pretty impatiently for SD support. WTF is the hold up?
The xoom has been clutch for watching these vids while there's something on TV or while I'm cooking dinner or eating breakfast or.... you know, trying to do stuff that people with free time have the luxury of doing. Sigh....
I had a update today say declined? Does anyone know what may have caused that?

its because you touch yourself. Or because you bought that app in the amazon store and not the Google store. Google only updates apps bought from its store.

[Q] Please help, assaulted while recording

There was this guy vandalizing some stuff in my street. I told him to stop while recording video of the event. He forced me on the ground bruising my neck and damaging my teeth, let me go when I promised to delete the video. How can I recover the video? Any help is very much appreciated.
You wouldn't happen to have your photos/videos back up to Google do you? That's terrible that happened to you I'm sorry.

I'm not sure it'd work for you but you could try downloading Dumpster from Google play. The only thing is idk if it recovers deleted files or it recovers files deleted after the app is installed.

Maybe you can email google and see what they can do in recovering data.
At least they would tell you if that sector has been overwritten or not.

[GUIDE] Internal Memory Data Recovery - Yes We Can!
sent from my HAMMERHEAD neXus
The first thing to do would be to STOP USING THE PHONE. The more you use it, the higher the chance of the data being overwritten and thus unrecoverable. Remember, "deleting" something only marks it as available on the disk/flash memory.
http://www.icare-recovery.com/free/android-data-recovery-freeware.html
As above, if you carry on using the phone there's a chance you might write over the deleted file, any chance of recovery then becomes much more difficult, maybe even impossible. Try some of the software that's been mentioned above, if the files not been overwritten you should have a good chance of recovery.

correct as the past few posts say if you havnt overwritten that area of your internal storage where the video was saved you should no problem using some recovery tools to get the deleted information. I work as a security analyst doing forensics and e-discovery. I recommend the program r-studio to recovery deleted information. you will have to pay for it unless you can find a free copy on the internet.. lol but you can also get a trial of it which will let you recovery files smaller than like 1mb which might not help you but you can at least use the trial to determine if the video is recoverable.
You can also use diskdigger. The free version should do what you need it to

Thank all of you for your help. I tried several tools, with varying results.
Sadly I can't seem to get anything watchable back. I got a couple of bruises and my jaw still kinda hurts, but it's nothing permanent.
I got an app that can undo removal of photos and videos for the next time something like this happens, also I should be more carefull not to put myself in harms way again. People are unpredictable.

Strange app

I bought my daughter a straight talk s3 it was rooted and running slimi rom.. But when I got it I wiped it and flash all over.. But there is a system of Google like apps that hang around but are not the real thing. And I the extra SD card there is a folder of the slim rom I flashed and inside it is system app private camera2
Another one with pre-built something.. These folders created themselves and looking in the initd folder I see nothing strange. What is going on?

First, I don't think this belongs in the development area. Next, there is NO WAY to get your stuff back unless you were rooted, already had a backup, SD card or idk. A factory reset wipes all internal storage, including your personal data. Sorry...
The lesson is to use something like Google Photos or even Samsung Backup.
If the photos were on the sdcard AND the card has not been used in the meantime, you can possibly recover some files using R-Studio ($$) or similar free software (testdisk, zero recovery).
If the data was on the internal memory AND you haven't overwritten it by using the phone you can send it to a recovery company for $$$. There is a channel on youtube called HDD Recovery Services where they show how they achieve this.
Up the phone is not necessarily the best place for your tobacco...
How do you 'accidentally' reset your phone?
It asks if you are sure multiple times, and explains what is about to happen first

[Q] Google Photos storage question...

Looking at this Pixel 2 as my next phone and saw that Google Photos backs up to the cloud. Is that able to be turned off?
Would rather not have cloud storage. Also, coming from the HTC One M8 and its photo gallery. Is there not a gallery in this phone?
Thanks.

You can turn off uploading but the photos is your gallery.

There is an option to turn off backup & sync within the Photos app. Settings > Backup & Sync.
Photos is the only gallery app but you can always install another (though I haven't).
why would you turn it off? its exclusive to pixel 2 owners that you get until 2021 free original quality storage. you might regret if you dont do the automatic back up some point but then your choice is still your choice. got people complaining where are their photos coming from non nexus or pixel devices after factory data reset, then they blame google because google should give them what they need coz we are google. had hard times explaining.

Some people don't want Google to have everything. It is the way it is. What if Google introduced a bug that made it use mobile data and viola high bill because some of these people are on a metered connection.

Although I understand your point, in your specific example, if someone was that worried about metered data, then they would also likely have their phone monitor data usage and provide a warning once it exceeds a certain threshold. It's a basic feature built into android and wouldn't require disabling the key feature in what is probably the greatest FREE photo sync app in the world.

^^This.
A little scepticism is healthy.
I would prefer to control my own data and storage. Too many stories of people either losing their data when the cloud services shut down or having to pay to get their data back. Or the photobucket fiasco.
On a side note, IMO, 2 things would make the Pixel 2 perfect, an sd card, and a removable battery. Hell, if my M8 had a removable battery, I wouldn't be thinking of getting a new phone.
Thanks for the replies. Will most likely be ordering the Pixel 2 soon.

Not ideal, but on the subject of SD cards, I think I've read that you can use the adapter that came with the device to attach a flash drive for OTG. Not positive on that, just something I vaguely recall reading over the past week.

I figured OTG was possible. Have my M8 set up to save pics and TiBkp backups to my SD card. Have a few apps that I backup regularly. I just hate not having the SD card for the backups in case the phone crashes and I have to do a factory reset or worse, not being able to recover anything from phone. Had a few times with the M8 where battery got too low and phone lost settings and reset itself. Had to reflash OS and restore apps and data. PITA, to say the least.
I know what some of you guys are going to say, that that's why you back up to the cloud. How many times do you hear of people assuming their stuff is backed up to the cloud, when come to find out, it wasn't.
There are times where I have poor cell reception and I put the phone in airplane mode and no Wi-Fi access, then I don't have any cloud backup. It would be so much easier just to have an SD card.
