International 4G on SM-G925P - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge

Hi guys,
I have a white Galaxy S6 Edge 64 GB Sprint model, SM-G925P and lots of trouble. I did not buy it from Sprint, as I'm not from US, instead traded my black 32 GB SM-G925F for this model, which is the international model. Thought that 32 extra gigs would not hurt and that the white one would be less off a fingerprint magnet.
Unfortunately, during the trade, I did not pay attention to a very important aspect: mobile data. I checked voice calls, camera and wi-fi as well, thought that everything should be fine. Mobile data is available only while accesing the settings and does not show while sliding from the top of the phone for the control panel.
As I got home, I discovered afterwards that I cannot make the update from 5.0.2 to 5.1.1 and that I cannot change the language from English to Romanian. The next day, I took the phone to a GSM service and they made the 5.1.1 update and mobile data work. I still can toggle it on/off only in the settings. The big issue is that I can use only 3G mobile data and that upsets me a lot. Of course, the guy that I made the trade with isn´t anymore to reach. Please let me know if I can do anything about 4G. I am really pissed off right now. Thank you very much!

Hi,
I'm also wondering if there's something possible. I already tried QPST and QXDM for enabling more bands but it didn't work. I guess it's something with the modem. Since the 925F uses a different chipset than the 925P it's not possible to use that one, but I found out that the G9250 has the same chipset as the G925P and supports an extreme amount of bands (more than the 925F). But since our bootloader is locked it's not possible to flash the modem. And even then there could be a lot of problems. So we have to enable the bands in the modem.bin. But that's quite hard and I still haven't found out how to do it, but it's our only hope. (G9250 Bands: http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=specs&id=7836&c=samsung_sm-g9250_galaxy_s6_edge_td-lte_samsung_zero)

Thank you for your answer mkalter,
I am by no means a developer and never rooted a phone, but if there is any solution that won´t brick up the device, I'll gladly try it. It is very upsetting to know that I cannot use 4G on it just because a provider doesn´t want so. Had to learn the hard way to triple check a phone when trading it.

I just solved the issue by selling the phone. Mods can close the thread.

[info] s3 sch-r530 u/c/m/x

[I'd like to create a thread to collect information for all variants of the R530. I'll update this first post with additional information people give during discussion. Sorry it is here in the Verizon sub, but this is the closest model]
The SCH-R530 is a special flavor of the Samsung Galaxy S3 with sub-favors: (you should probably puke now)
SCH-R530U is a US Cellular variant
SCH-R530C is a Cricket variant
SCH-R530M is a MetroPCS variant
SCH-R530X is a Generic variant
I suspect these are all the same hardware, but just different ROMs. I would like to confirm this.
I would like to know and post the newest firmware versions for each. (at least the names, if not the ROM files themselves) I'd like to know if ROMs are compatible, if modem firmwares are compatible, if bootloaders are compatible. The small community of owners need to pull together as much as possible.
Model -- Hardware Version / Firmware Versions / Baseband
SCH-R530U --
SCH-R530C --
SCH-R530M --
SCH-R530X -- R530X.01 / JSS15J.R530XWWUBMK4 / R530XWWUBMK4
Please post if you can add to this information!
I'm working on my dad's SCH-R530X (Generic CDMA). It was on a regional CDMA provider that he was not happy with -- he paid $500 to them in January for the phone. Edit: Today, he's on PagePlus, but without data for some reason.
Concerns (that someone may be able to help me with):
Once you go to KK 4.4 you can not go back? Your bootloader is updated and will not boot 4.3?
I'm running 4.3, can I root -> replace recovery -> custom ROM ... without tripping the KNOX warranty void? I've read that saferoot will not trip KNOX?
This phone seems to have an odd Call Audio Quality problem. While listening during a phone call (on the R530), the other party's voice cuts out. Specifically, it cuts out when the other person isn't speaking in their mic close enough or loud enough. It's as if the R530 is filtering out anything under a certain volume level. I've turned off Call Equalizer and Noise Reduction to try to solve this problem. I believe I've read people say a firmware/ROM update from US Cellular fixed this problem.
So you can see, I have some constraints: Still in warranty and don't want to void it by tripping KNOX. Want to try a newer firmware for call audio problem. Don't want to brick phone with incompatible firmware, unless US Cellular will work on this X/Generic phone.
Help would be appreciated.
I do have the USC and Cricket variants but the USC version is soft bricked.
HW: R530C.01
Firmware: JSS15J.R530CVVUCMK3
Baseband: R530CVVUCMK3
Also fyi, this and the USC version requires a sim card.

Thanks... I'll add the info. I think I'll make a spot to record if it has a SIM slot too -- as my 530X does not have a SIM slot and was labeled with a little sticker "3G CDMA"... but the MEID starts with a "9" and LTE visible in DFS.

I have a regional version of the s3 as well, d2xar (sch-r530x) on Inland Cellular, primarily based in the north west US. as far as i can tell, i havent dissasembled my phone to see if there is a lte radio, in the original build.prop for my phone it is disabled on boot so it will not consume power since it is not being used. thus the 3g cdma only sticker. for the us cellular version i do not know if there is a kitkat firmware but if there is there is always the possiblity you will not beable to go back. as for the generic version it is only on 4.3 right now. eitherway the higher the bootloader version is better for customroms due to recoveries and features working better. as for saferoot i dont remember if it trips the warranty bit or not since ive long since written a custom recover to the device which tripped it but i do know itll make the stock rom list itself as custom in the settings after being rooted. also something to keep in mind with a custom rom is, unless you have the apns for your carrier eg, pageplus, usc, ect. you will not have mms capabilities. Im still tearing my build.prop and apn back up apart to see if i can include some of that info into a custom rom to fix mms, or a recovery that will inject it after a rom flash.
Update?

Any update to this? I have the sticker too and it'd be great to have LTE on since this phone supports it, it seems. I've made this post

Last I checked there was a bug with the d2lte builds that break the ability to set apns... I made a cm10.2, I think, build that allowed changing the APN. Um if I remember right the physical design of the d2xar has hardware similar to the Verizon s3. I still don't know if there is an lte modem in the phone since there doesnt seem to be a sim card slot, though there maybe an integrated uicc. I haven't played with it much since I switched to using my nexus 5 on T-Mobile.

I got to the service mode settings, which oddly enough it listed GSM and CDMA. Quite weird. To get there was even weirder. Sadly the D2xar doesn't support TWRP Recovery, and the only one that works is CWM by Philz.

Yah I noticed that to when I was digging around for apns for my old carrier. As for twrp I got around that problem by building my own version using cyanogenmod and the d2lte device files. It made cyanogenmod delta updates possible on the d2lte build. Which are really nice. My source is floating around github, though you'd have to do a little digging to find everything. I do have precompiled twrp images on my webserver that I try to keep up to date for my friend who's brother has the same phone. If you go to my site its safe to ignore the certificate warnings, I have it set to force HTTPS and the reason the warning pops up is because I self signed it instead of paying for a company like verisign
Sorry for my superbly late reply. I've done a ton of digging with this phone. Turns out it only supports Evdo. So no LTE sadly. Even worse, using the Test Menu I can't bands to USA bands, only the (800 or 850?) Hz Global band. I can't get a connection. Well. The bars are listed as 2-3 generally, but it says "Roaming Indicator Off". I have the latest and only baseband, too.
(Wow. After two months of fiddling, as of typing this, I turned on cellular service, which is usually in Airplane mode, I got a " 3G" connection for the first time. Only for a second.)
I don't think I'll be able to switch this over to Straight Talk any time soon, though. I'll check your GitHub soon for that TWRP.

Yeah, just of now I've been unable to re-acquire the "3G" that caused me to have a boost of hope. Now even when I attempt calling which it usually would bring me to the Verizon automated system, asking to make a collect call, since around here is primarily Verizon, I can't even get it to call. It now states that no mobile network is available, even when I have 2-3 bars.
You have no "3g" because your keys are wrong. Y'all need some QPST and see the whole logon process and baseband messages. Then you can really troubleshoot your phone.
I have a Verizon Samsung Galaxy S3 on the Straight Talk network. I check for software updates and it tells me the software is up to date however it says my phone is running off of 4.4.2 instead of the Lollipop or the one just under. Does anyone know if Lollipop 5.0 or 5.1 has reached the S3 yet? Or how to manually update my phone software so its not so low?

you will have to root, trip knox and lose your warranty... there is no way to go back. on verizon you may be screwed if you have signed/locked bootloaders. search on XDA about unlocked bootloaders for verizon. also: http://androidforums.com/threads/verizon-verizon-bootloader-unlock.856221/
aaaand... make sure to back up your mmc boot partitions so you can debrick if you mess up.
p.s. prepare to learn a lot of technical things. if that sounds annoying and you don't want to spend a lot of time on it you might be better off buying a used phone.

[HELP]Samsung Korean S8+ KT - SM-G955N TMobile Network Problem

Hello everyone, im new here kept searching everywhere for solution for my problem without any success. In may 10 i bought SM-G955N KT module, it was working great with 2g / 3g / 4g / LTE / LTE+, i went out of usa for almost 3 month and when i came back my phone doesn't work well with tmobile, i can send msgs use lte internet but i cant do calls at some areas, some times i have full lte bar and when i try to make a call it goes to 0 signal bar, i called tmobile many times about the issue but no solution i found out that they did upgrades to their towers in the period i was out of usa from may to august, right now i cant use the phone as any normal person its been a month that i cant use the phone at my house and some areas, i can make calls sometimes if im at different tower locations. Question is, is there any solution for this problem since tmobile did those tower upgrades its screwed up everything..... should move out to att or verizon or what should i do. I really need help with this problem its been a month, any solution would be welcome if it requires root or not i dont care i just want to find a solution for this,
Thank you.
Have you tried resetting your network settings and/or getting a new sim card?
Its not the sim card i already changed it to a new one also i tried it on a iphone 7s plus and it works fine, my phone is bone stock no root no custom software alsi its the korean version when i looked around i found that tmobile did some network upgrades from may to aug and thats when my phone got screwed up, i was albe to play with the ims setting and i got the phone to recive calls but i cant make calls, does my phone screwed up because it has the korean csc and the stock firmware or whats going on here
I'm not quite sure I understand your experience. From what I am reading, you went to Korea, got the G955N (which I bought for both myself and my wife), and then came back to the states and can't get it to work with T-Mobile?
I tried to get mine to work with T-Mobile and have experimented extensively with different CSCs and ROMs.
I eventually went over to AT&T
I've also had a rather extensive experience of how to get 4GLTE working here in the states with AT&T.
Feel free to reply here or DM me if you wish.

Hello thanks for your input, actually i bought the phone in the box brand new from amazon, it came here on may 10 i used it for 7 days 4G LTE 3G works great then i had to go out of country for 3 month i came back at the end of august to find that tmobile did a huge tower upgrades in my area, since i came back i wasnt able to do calls and receive calls, i was only able to text and use LTE internet but not calls, i went to different towers area and i actually was able to make calls but not in every area because some times my signal bar goes down to 0 or even 1 signal and i cant make calls still but my other friends who owns iphones or usa version of android works fine except me. Yesterday i edited the IMS setting im still on stock fw and i enabled every single feature there and i was able to receive calls in my area but still i cant do calls, i wanted to make sure if im gonna follow the steps here in this guide i will be able to use TMOBILE CSC with the korean stock firmware and get the features of tmobile as VOLTE and WIFI CALLING etc with the right CSC for sure and without tripping knox
Thank you
Hi, I did some extensive searching and was not able to find a solution for this.
I've got the SM-G955N, and ran into the same issues as other users in this thread with T-Mobile, has anyone found a workaround to unlock the LTE bands necessary to make the SM-G955N work with T-Mobile?
I didnt find solution yet too, i dont know what to do i gave up i tried everything on the official software no root.

I had a phone with the Korean CSC as well, N phone as well. I left the CSC alone and it worked with T-Mobile and ATT here in the US just fine, last fall.
I later changed the CSC to XXA, and still works well. Just tested it this week with T-Mobile, and it's working. I have to say, that locally, T-Mobile has much poorer spot area service than ATT. Kinda puzzling, but that is the way it is.
My phone is rooted, so it make things a bit more handy to mess about and return to my previous setups.

Custom roms on SM-G930W8?

I will start off by saying I am not experienced when it comes to custom roms. I currently have an G930P running stock, but want to switch to a custom rom for better privacy. I did some research and was disappointed to find out that I can't do that with the G930P, so I ordered a "renewed" G930F from Amazon. It arrived today, but instead of the model I ordered, it appears that I received a G930W8. I know this is still an Exynos model, but I want to double check to make sure there aren't any issues I need to be aware of before trying anything with this model. I really don't want to brick a $200 phone. I'm leaning towards Havoc OS for my rom if that makes any difference.
Another question I have is whether this phone will work on T Mobile/Mint as my plan is to switch to them from Boost because I found out I can get a lot more for my money that way. I haven't been able to find as much information for this model as I did for the 930F.
Thank you in advance for any help.

So the G930W is customisable and anything you can do with an G930F you can do with G930W. The only thing you need to check BEFORE you do anything is to check network band compatibility. Look at the "Network" specs for both phones side by side and make sure the bands you need for TMobile are listed.
Also there is obviously a scam with these phones always being described as G930F but turning up as something else. It's true exynos models are easier to modify but you still need network compatibility as I've mentioned.

I checked compatibility with Mint/TMobile and it said 100% for 2g and 3g, but only 60% for 4g. Went ahead and popped in the sim card that just came in the mail and followed the instructions for activation, all except for one step which said to turn on mobile data, which I couldn't find in the settings.*This did not get me connected, so I looked around more in the phone's settings and found "Network operators" under the "Mobile networks" page and hit "Search networks." This pulled up 8 different options, all called "Mint." I tried "select automatically" but I got a message saying I would have to manually select the network. So I started going down the list, trying each one. Some of them would not connect, but a few did and would show several bars of signal. But when I would try sending a text or making a call, I would get an error.
I should probably also mention that in addition to frequencycheck.com, I also checked the phone's compatibility via Mint's own website which asked for the phone's IMEI and it showed as compatible, but also said this wasn't a guarantee that it would actually work.

Hi there @ekjf, I was wondering if you tried installing a custom ROM on your G930W8? And did it work?
Thanks!

Samsung A515F unlocked TPA to AT&T USA, what to expect?

I'd like to get Wifi calling, Visual Voicemail, and 4g on an unlocked A515F.
As of now the phone reports itself as this:
Baseband A51FXXU3BTH5
Service provider (stuff) TPA TPA TPA TPA
Network AT&T
Moble network state disconnected
Service in service
IMS not registered
Mobile voice LTE
Mobile data LTE
VoLTE seems to be on? I thought this doesn't work on unlocked phones.
Being new to this the providers are all over the map on all kinds of stuff regarding unlocked phones. (AT&T rant I'm sure many of you have been here Grrrr.)
Network mode auto is LTE/3G/2G, there is no 4G option (as I believe in my research is how it is with unlocked phones)
So, I suppose the question is, if I follow the steps outlined in this thread:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-a51/how-to/guide-how-to-change-csc-a51-t4129243
and flash the AT&T firmware, will I get 4G, Visual voicemail, and WiFi calling? As well as whatever the heck ATT disables for unlocked devices.
Will this require another trip to the store and a 4G SIM put in there?
New to this, but I have tried to research this as much as I could. Thanks for all the info.
Steve
Forum?
Have I put this in the wrong sub forum? Should it be in the firmware flashing forum?
First don't need to flash anything unless you want to waste your time with bloatware.
What you have to look into for your service desires, is do you have wifi in your service plan? If yes, did you activate it on the A51 you are using? (Also make sure your sim card is sim 1)
Also you don't have to use any provider's visual voicemail to get it for your phone. I've used YouMail for about 2 decades.
As far as lte & 4G. My phone is from same csc TPA TPA/TPA. I've seen both 4G & 4G LTE on my service. So your question about that was a little vague. But U.S. providers (at&t or tmo) won't tell you 90% of the time that you have to get 4G LTE sim card & pay for a 4G LTE service plan on order to get it.
Thanks for the reply.
It's sim 1. IMS not registered my be the issue, ill call ATT tomorrow.
I've been able to get visual voicemail back by installing the APK. The play store says it is not compatible with my device, APK was fine. I will check and try what you suggested.
Yeah, it might get a few chuckles here but i've had a S5 for years, and replaced it 3 times with ebay s5's. Love it. Initally i just popped my old iphone 4 sim in there and used it forever. I never had wifi calling and when i attempted to enable it it said the sim was the problem.
Imagine my surprise after going to the store and getting the proper sim i see the 4g icon appear and wifi calling, etc. All these were ATT firmware phones, on power the logo pops up, bloatware, etc on the S5's. Miss it already. What am i going to do with all these batteries and chargers?
This has been a different thing. Being in the States, not traveling overseas (at this time i believe no one will have us anyway) and this unlocked phone. As far as bloatware goes, its still kinda there in one way or another. Clicking on a link within chrome forces samsung internet every once in a while. Yeah, there is no real extra stuff on the device as it is. Its just weird.
Getting a sim for this at the store took a little more time then I thought it would. The employee was checking out the phone for a little longer then just handing me a sim.
I've changed the APN, possibly to the incorrect settings, to get 4g and wifi calling bacK. But that seemed to knock out any mobile data. Granted I may have entered the wrong settings. I'll look for others.
What's really confusing is the lack of these things. Is this phone cabible of 4g in the hardware? Wifi calling seems to be a forced ATT unlocked thing.
Sorry, long winded. This article states that when I am seeing the 3g lte it is really 4g.
Egads, link without 10 posts wont let happen. It's the B&H photo article regarding unlocked phones.
The wireless calling is not happening. Is this inherent to unlocked phones on ATT? VoLTE is on as far as the settings tell me. I'll poke around some more.
Many thanks
Steve
4g was on the S5 so i would assume it was part of the plan. Switching to the nano sim A51 should not knock that out.
I've read so many posts here, as i know my questions are pretty basic compared to other discussions, so thanks again.
If you'd like to discuss the numerology hidden in octal permissions let me know
If there was a screenshot of the mobile networks
Data roaming off
VoLTE SIM1 On
LTE/3G/2G (auto connect) checked
3G/2G (auto connect)
3G only
2G only
Yeah, I just bricked it ish. Tried the A51U-1 At&T firmware USA. I'm downloading the Italian Samsung firmware to get it back I hope. "Only official binaries are allowed".
The phone was in emergency mode and showing the PIT error with the A51U1 firmware.
The Italian firmware set uploaded fine. Now only it only shows a white circle with the little lightning bolt inside if connected to a usb cable. Computer wont recognize it. Resetting it vol down and power/bixby key turns the display off for a sec but it comes right back to the same thing. This is bricked huh. Any ideas?
Holy cow I held the vol down buxby bixby button down as I removed the usb cable I am getting the factory data reset screen. Maybe there is hope.
Yeah same thing again. If anyone has this issue you can at least get back to factory reset by holding the buttons and quickly yanking the USB cable out when the charging logo disappears.
-edit again
Recovery mode vol down + power. When it blanks keep the power button down and push vol up.
I wonder what to try in the choices.
Wipe cache?
Reboot to bootloader?
Im looking at the last log there is a whole lot going on. At about 80% of it is shows a ******FILE SYSTEM MODIFIED****, then it looks like its setting the octal permissions on a bunch of stuff, then it looks like it cant find /etc/firmware/calliope_sram.bin and from a bunch of other places in the filesystem.
After about 87% it looks like it is basically describing how it is displaying the recovery mode screen.
Displayed is samsung/a51nsxx/a5111/RP1A.200720.012/A51FXXU4EUC8
The phone came as an A51F. Was trying to flash to A51U1(ATT).
-Edit again.
I have hope for this but I am aware I am a flippin second from bricking the device. Any input is highly appreciated.
Steve
I will attempt this if I can find the download screen,

looks like is TPA for Panama, Downloading firmware through Samsung firmware downloader. But I would like the USA ATT firmware so I can have 4g and wifi calling. OMG Im gonna brick this thing.
Reboot computer and phone reboots into Cyrillic I find this rather funny at this point. But it is the phone setup screen and routine.
edit-- Hilarious. Didn't even install the Panama TPA firmware unless Samsung Firmware Downloader did it by itself while I was taking a nap. Cyrillic boot? looks like it is on the network at least I think can talk to someone been a lonely couple of days.
edit again== This is a linux computer that can make phone calls. WTF is the deal here. Really? All this stuff? I'm exploring all the custom ROMs and whatnot here in the forums. All I wanted was 4G and wifi calling. That is what my S5 did and I loved it. The S5. Flippin old phone but a fun one. Thousands of dollars to ATT over the years and they wont turn this phone to 4g on for me?
Thanks for everyone that has put effort into this that is amazing I really cant thank you enough.
edit yet again. Maybe flashing the firmware I have to wait for a couple of hours for it to fire up? I am assuming everything I am doing is wrong.
Can do... https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/guide-how-to-change-csc-on-a51.4129243/

No bloatware but the Yandex stuff.
No ATT logo on startup.
Again thanks for all your work and knowledge on this stuff, I'll poke around some more and see what firmware is actually on there. It says SM-A515F/DS.
Oh! A515FXXU4EUC8.
SER/SER,SER/TPA
Again thanks - ramblings form a newbie.
SER CSC, well that explains Yandex.

Welp, now

SER/SER,SER/TPA
Twrp as ap.
Force encrypt,
Magisk,
Then what? Odin U or U1 firmware wont that overwrite ap? Agh.
Extract PIT from the working firmware and pit tab? Agh.
Consider myself lucky running SER TPA firmware?
Am I about to trip Knox?
Welp, getting the 3G going away feb 2022 messages from ATT even though it does display the little 4G icon at times. Called Att they say they can see the imei. They say sending a new phone. Not an a51 who knows. Most likely some thing that up the account to $100 a month.
Be warned the you will loose everything is real on firmware flashing but weird. Thought i copied the entire filesysyem but things dropped out
.
This is an old model phone so i understand and my first shot at flashing it. Probably try again as i think i did not flash the u1 correctly. Still can talk, text, whatever. Frustrating, old phone, who cares.
Ah they sent me a S10e for free no complaints. Ill try the att a51 firmware again nothing to loose at this point see what happens and follow the guides.

What US carriers will I be able to use my G930F with?

I have a G930F and had a message from Cricket/AT&T that it would no longer work on their network as of Feb 2022. ( https://www.att.com/idpassets/images/support/wireless/Devices-Working-on-ATT-Network.pdf )
I am pretty sure my phone can use 4g even though I never see it in my area, I have seen it in other areas
I was looking at other prepaid plans anyway, and notice that both T-Mobile and Mint Mobile (which I think uses TMobile) have prepaid plans and when I put in my IMEI both say my phone will work on their network.
So just wanted to confirm that this is true and not going away with the rest of the 3g upgrade for other networks - does anyone on here use a 930F on TMobile or other US carriers?
Alternatively, I have rooted and flashed ROMs on this, so if there is some other method to keep my S7 and stay on AT&T please let me know - I have yet to find anything that said this works.
For the most part I really like my S7 and haven't really found another phone I like that I like that isn't really big - I like that I can fit this one in my pocket.
Thanks!
Well I found an answer - MINT mobile works, at least for now!
I got a 1 week trial with Mint to check it out (currently only $1 for the SIM if you order from Amazon).
My phone now has the 4G icon at the top and under Mobile networks has the option for VoLTE and Network mode is LTE/3G/2G. I don't think those options were there before but honestly don't remember.
I actually got a free phone from Cricket to use just in case and until I figure out what phone I really want, but it just doesn't compare to even this 4 year old phone. The new one seems really slow. But I will be switching to Mint now, pretty cheap pricing and seems to work for me so far!
